can we decrease the resolution of the screen to 1080p with android oreo 8.0 ?
yes.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/mod-change-default-resolution-to-1080p-t3638543
The foreground optimizer in the included Boost+ app also allows switching to 1080p on a per app basis.

1st of all i must say sorry if there is another post about this but, is there a way to improve youtube video quality on our XL?????
the best quality im getting on youtube is 360p... our phone can play 720p videos without problems or lags but youtube only gets up to 360p
my phone is full stock device and bootloader is locked
you need to have root access
2 ways to improve quality:
1- With a modded youtube app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529715
cons: old version of youtube
pro: have many extra options like playing in background etc etc
2 - fake resolution: you can use xposed with "app settings" ,module to set the youtube app working with a higher resolution with lower dpi, this will enable 720p in the app

*EDITED*
nvm i realize how to do it
I'm looking to develop an android app to be used on a 3840x2160 4K/UHD display using an Android miniPC that supposedly supports "4K resolution."
I have a few different Android miniPCs (all Android 4.4) and they all play 4K videos fine. Also, for all of them, the 3840x2160 resolution was selected in the Display settings in HDMI mode . However, when I display a UHD equivalent image using an image viewer, the image looks to be scaled up from a smaller size. When I download apps from the Google Play store that measures the resolution of the device, they all report that the device is displaying at 1080p.
I believe these 4K Android miniPC can decode 4K video, but the user interface is still being displayed at 1080p despite what is selected in the Display settings. There is an article from cnx-software that blames the type of processor for these types of devices not being able to support UHD resolution. (i would provide links, but unable to include them as a new forum user.)
Is it really the processor limiting the device? I find it hard to believe the processor can display 4K video, but unable to support a 4K user interface. So my question is, can Android support a user interface and an app at 3840x2160 resolution? If so what would it take to support it?
Thank you in advance for any insight you can provide.
I have Beelink R28 box and it has the same behavior. It seems that Android doesn't support UHD resolutions and wonder why there are no any information about this.
just got my S8 youtube videos are not playing in 1440p there is only a 1080p option.. my s7 edge has 1440p option what gives?
I noticed the same thing. Likely the YouTube app has not be configured for the ratio of the S8. Or there is a limitation per the network (wifi vs lte).
I had to change my phones display settings to 1440p first.... by default it was on 1080p.... now the 1440p option is available for me.
Maybe it's just me but I can't tell the difference anyway.

I had the same issue and I tuned off Power Saving and my resolution bumped up to 1440p.
Hope this helps.

Go here and tell me if you have 1440p?
https://youtu.be/Bey4XXJAqS8
Also if you have your power saving mode on or performance options set to have your screen at 1080p (to save battery) this can happen. There is an option that is supposed to bypass this for apps like YouTube to enable 1440p only in those apps but maybe there is a bug and it's not working.
Then make sure you don't have limit mobile HD usage on in the settings. Let us know what the results are.

2160p :good::laugh: youtube vanced ftw
I would like to know which apps are on FHD or QHD.
Any app/mod to choose manually the resolution? I think we would save battery if we could choose which apps are on FHD or QHD.
For example, Whatsapp on QHD+ is unnecessary to me.
Thanks.
In the lastest update for Bixby Routines, I do not see the option for Motion Smoothness and Screen Resolution that was present in the 9/12 update? Was this eliminated in the lastest version? Wanted to setup a routine to use with the YouTube app to allow for 60 Hz and WQHD resolution when the app is being used. Is this not possible on the Z Fold2? It seemed to worked on the Note 20 Ultra. Does anyone have a workaround for the Z Fold2?
