Hi guys, first post here.
I recently purchased a Witson V5754 unit for my Astra J which is an Android 8.0 PX5 unit with no external buttons. Everything is controlled by touchscreen or the factory panel buttons and steering wheel controls.
The unit was working perfectly but froze up and couldn't get any response from it. When I switched off the ignition, and then switched it back on again, it came back with the same frozen screen. So, I pulled the radio fuse to cut the power to the unit. On re-inserting the fuse, the unit powers on with the initial multi-media nav splash screen, then followed by a black screen for about 5 seconds before going into a recovery screen saying that it can't load android and my data might be corrupt.
This screen gives me 2 options - try again or factory data reset. The problem is, with no external buttons, I can't move the highlight to choose anything on that screen!
Any ideas, guys and gals?
PS - I would upload a pic of exactly what it says on the screen but due to forum restrictions in my first posts, it won't allow me to attach the pic

If you have a reset button (a small hole that could.be pressed helped by a needle) use it for moving between options (short press = move. Long press = accept the chosen option)

Hi, have you solved the problem? I have a similar problem with my full touch px5 and I have not found any reset buttons from the unit or the screen.. So now I can't get out from recovery mode. Reversing camera works tho.

That Unit (Witson V5754 unit for my Astra J) has no hardware reset button !!!
The hole right next to the SD slot is fake.
Only solution is to open the display part and solder a button to key2 + gnd.
I know, because I have that unit myself and tried all the buttons + combinations, no sauce.
EDIT: Search in my posts or in the hardware section for more info
Thanks, will try it soon. I have Witson V5637, but I think the HW is the same.

I have the exact same board under the screen, but I couldn't get it to work. Tried with key2, key1 and rst, all with ground. The idea is to get the key2 to ground with the button? When I powered the unit the key2 didn't got any voltages so if it is activated with ground, it is not obviously working.

Please find my posts about it.
You need to wire LED1 or 2 .. cant recall, because it functions as indicator.
What the key on single press does is MUTE
Long press powers off the screen and keeping pressed the HU goes to sleep or even longer pressed, reboots.
The indicator starts lighting up when pressed long enough for reboot and start flickering after, where you start to release-push until you are in recovery.
-> Since the mid-long press shuts off the screen, it could happen, that your screen stays black -> press again to power on the screen.
EDIT: Yes, key+gnd does it.
You can even map this new keys in the keystudy app now, because they're resistive.

Didn't work with this wiring: key 2 (or key 1 or rst, tried them all) -> switch pin 1, gnd -> switch pin 2. So when the switch is pressed, the key is directed straight to gnd. Should I do something differently? I don't need any indicators, just need to get out of recovery mode.
I have checked the posts in different thread you mentioned, but they are as jibberish as other answers
Most ppl try to even enter recovery for that, the indicator helps a lot.
If you are in recovery already and need to get out, key2 long press should activate the highlighted entry. This is also mentioned in the top lines in recovery.
key2 pulled to gnd will do. Assuming you use the gnd provided by that connector.
Yes, the gnd was from the same flex connector slot. Checked with a multimeter that it is also a shared ground and the switch was properly wired. Still not working with the switch.
Lyckily I got an usb keyboard. I plugged it directly to usb1-port at the back of the HU while powered up -> didn't work. Then I left it plugged and powered the unit completely off (not even power to memory) and on again -> the keyboard starts to work and arrows/enter key did the trick!
Thanks for your support although it didn't solve my case (which is strange because of the same HW).
is there any way to use the recovery without rst button?
At the outset, I'm sorry for digging up the old topic, but I can't cope with my device at all. After connecting to the power, the device displays the Android 10 logo for a second and then the screen is black. I need to enter recovery mode, but like the user above, my device does not have a reset button or any other physical buttons. After disassembling the device on the board, behind the display, I found pins as in the picture, ie RST, RST1, GND1, GND2. After shorting the RST and GND1 pins, you can see that the device is restarting, which I suspect is like a reset button (?). I will be grateful for any help on how to enter this recovery mode.

Hello to all, a friend gave me his HD7 to look at for him to see if I can get it to work but I'm stumped!
Here are the symptoms, when NOT connected to PC by USB phone consistantly reboots up to "connect to PC" screen and then shuts down and boots up again automatically and repeats untill battary is pulled. As soon as I put the battary back in starts back into boot loop. I have tried to load bootloader screen (pwr+vol dwn) and (vol up+vol dwn+pwr) to re flash and no luck, it never gets to bootloader screen and continues to loop. I then downloaded Zune software to try and restore through Zune but when I conected the phone it now stops loop process and stays on "connect to PC" screen but Zune gives me restore error "C101002E". While in this state I shut down Zune and tried load bootloader screen again and nothing I even tried using galaxy s method (vol up+vol dwn+plug in USB) and no luck. Is this a lost case or is there something I'm not trying ? Thank you all for your time and please pardon me if I have my terminology mixed up as I am new to the whole Android and WP7 Scene.
is the phone in a case? are any of the buttons being pressed whilst the phone powers up (such as the camera button)?
Sorry I forgot to mention that. No, there is not a case on it. As I was digging arround I did come accross a few posts advising about the case causing malfuction due to pressure on buttons but I do not think that is the issue. The reason I say "think" is because he did have a case on the phone when the issue started happening, is it possible that the case could have caused permenant damage ?
possibly but many people who registered the issue said that the phone worked normally after not having the case on (from memory). it's quite strange. have you tried googling the zune error code you got?
Yes I did and no results, all I was able to find was a handfull of other HD7 owners with same issue, one even stating that he went as far as even searching Microsoft for that error code and they did not even have an answer to the error code which is pretty scary. there was also the occasional few that pluged up the phone to their pc, pulled batt and popped it back in and phone booted up normally but not for me.
Do you know if the HD7 camera button is a 2 stage button that focuses on half press and takes pic on full press ? Reason I ask is because I'm not feeling a finall click when full pressing the camera button.
it is a two stage button (all windows phone 7s are). the first first you should feel just as you push it a bit, and then next is when you push it all the way down. if you don't feel it "click" (in your fingers) when you push it all the way down, it could definitely be that the camera button is jammed. if this is the case, i would suggest using the warranty and getting a replacement either from the carrier or htc.
I think we are on to something here I just had another buddy come by and bring his HD7 and it feels completely diffrent! The 2 clicks are easily identifiable on his phone but there is no second click on the problematic phone. At this point I am 95% sure that the camera button is the culprate but that 5% variable is driving me nuts so I will be doing some very carful "non warranty voiding" partial disassembly to see if can make this a 100% confirmed post and see if there is an easy solution for those that wont have a warranty exchange option in the future will be back tomorrow with update.
if you still have warranty i wouldn't risk voiding it, even if you bend the back to get the plate to move out of the way. i'm pretty sure htc can tell when a device has been tampered with (though carriers normally can't).
HTC will most deffinatly know if a device was tampered with because usually even if you bend the backplate i would think that the plastic will show signs of force on the stress point where the screws are not removed and I have still not been able to remove a lower lid with out showing signs of it being removed (minor scuffs or scratches to lower plate). With that in mind I would NOT recomend this if you are outside of your carriers exchange period if that is the case just do a warranty exchange. In our case he is still with in he 14 day exchange period with carrier where they only check for extensive exterior damage and the infamouse liquid damage which we are clear of. So regardless the results that I come up with he is going to be exchanging the phone in store with carrier, gotta love those brick and mortar return polices
here are the results I'll try to be as detailed as possible and will also try to upload some images.
The camera button was the problem and was easily resolved here is the process. I removed batt lid and sd card lid (lower lid with metal strip) grabbed my t5 driver and started started removing the all the screws ( for more details on that part do a search for "HD7 SD card upgrade") here is were it gets interesting, once I removed all the screws I pressed the camera button and it was now working properly !! I fired it up and it booted up normally with out any issues. I put all the screws back in and decided to check it 1 more time before putting both of the lids back on and the button felt wierd again I powered it back up and sure nuff it got stuck in boot loop again. Here is the solution and remember as The Gate Keeper stated none of this is worth the hassle if u are still under warranty just send it out and get a new one
Remove all screws from back plate with a t5 torx driver (I removed all but 1 screw to avoid removing warranty sticker on screw head). Once all screws are removed gently lift of rear plate, it should come off easily if any extra effort is needed revise that all screws are removed.
once back lid is removed you will notice that one of the torx screw is located right next to the camera button area this is were the problem is created some how when the back lid is screwed in that screw is causing the back plate to apply pressure to the button mecanisim area not allowing the camera button to make proper contact with the switch when fully pressed.
my solution was to put a tiny strip of 2 sided tape right by the torx screw so that when it is put back in the thick 2 sided tape will keep the necessary clearance between the back plate and the button mechanism. I will try to post pics asap!
hope this helps anyone with this issue feel free to PM me with questions.

If you have a HD7, your phone is defective. I had the exact same problem, took it back to Tmobile and got a new one and it works perfectly.
Things you will try to do and which, for a short amount of time will work:
1. Remove and re-insert SIM.
2. Hard Reset
3. Connect to PC
4. Remove from case
5. Walk into store to complain.
Trust me, phone is just broken. Return it and get another one or be in for a world of hurt. HTC HD7 owner.
I am having the exact same problem. Just received my brand new HD7 today from T-mobile. Was excited to power it on, but it never made it through the "connect to PC" screen and constantly reboots itself. There is nothing you can do on the phone, all it does is that it shows the HTC logo, then a picture indicating connect to PC, then reboots itself.
EDIT: Problem solved by sliding my fingernail into the little hole next to the camera button to unjam it. However everytime the camera button is pressed all the way down it gets jammed again.
Hi!
I have a (pretty complicated) problem on my hands it seems.
I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S III (Verizon, sch-i535), running cyanogenmod 10.1.2.
A couple days ago, I realized I wasn't able to press to power button to lock my screen.
I hadn't installed anything new, or changed any settings that was relevant recently.
It showed all the symptoms (that I have heard of) of a "stuck" power button:
Can't lock screen
Can't open sleeping phone with power button
Screen sporadically locks by itself
Power menu (the one that pops up when you hold the power button) pops up randomly and sporadically
Phone boots by itself when the battery is inserted
I figured it was a hardware issue, and I took it to a Samsung Repair center, where I was told there was nothing wrong with the button.
I returned home confused. I decided I should try flashing a newer version of cyanogenmod, where I realized I wasn't able to access either download mode or recovery mode. Let me elaborate:
When I put in my battery, it first (by itself) tries to enter recovery mode. It flashes a cyanogen booting screen for a a bit (varies in length, sometimes up to 1 second, sometimes not at all) and goes dark.
If I reinsert the battery, it repeats.
When I try to enter download mode, I can access the yellow exclamation point warning about custom OSes, where I can press volume up to start the process.
It shows the green android, says downloading, do not turn off, ODIN mode, etc, and soon crashes.
After a long time of trying to boot the phone, I found the only way to boot it is to first go through download mode, wait for it to crash, take out and reinsert the battery, and then wait (after which it will boot normally).
I've tried various apps that have a "reboot to download mode" or "reboot to recovery mode" function, but they all result in the phone crashing and staying dark.
tl;dr power button doesn't work (not hardware) so I can't access download mode or recovery mode
Edit: It seems that the power button action seems to get registered more when I move / shake the phone (not strictly the case, just seems like a pattern)
Does anyone know what's going on, or what I can do to get out of this mess?
Thanks!
Actually, I had this problem too where the phone thought the power button was being pressed even though it physically wasn't. The only difference though is that I was (and still am) using a TW rom. I ended up fixing it by just firmly holding down the power button (with a bit more pressure than normal) for a couple seconds and then letting go while the phone was on.
I'm not sure why that worked, but... it did.
Hope that helps
Like you said, all of the symptoms you are describing would be indicative of a stuck power button. How did they test the button at the repair center? I'd take it back to them. Otherwise i know mobiletechvideos.com has a fairly cheap power button repair service ($40).
A simple DIY fix you can try is to lightly smack the power button on the edge of a table, obviously not too hard or you can damage the phone/screen. I've seen people claim this has fixed a stuck power button issue. It's similar to what the poster above did. Sometimes dirt/gunk gets under the button and into the electrical contacts and this could help jar anything loose.

Yeah this worked for me for a couple months. It ended up completely stuck so this is probably not a long term solution.
Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies.
The guy at the repair center took it apart, and tried resoldering the power button (twice).
He seemed pretty convinced it was a software issue (might be because he's obligated to? not sure what their policy is on rooted phones).
Does anyone know of a software issue that might lead to something like this?
Please help me. Once when I tried to upgrade my phone it got damaged and i repaired it in a near by local shop.. I don't know what they did to my phone... now i can't upgrade my phone and i don't understand which recovery mode is in my phone. I got only four options in it.
1) reboot system now
2) apply sd card :update zip
3) wipe data factory reset.
4) wipe cache partition
Now the main option needed to upgrade "install zip from sd card" is not available.. Could someone help me to change it or atleast tell me which mode is this
This is that recovery mode

That's stock recovery. Not a custom recovery on a Samsung device. If you have a Galaxy Ace like your signature suggests, go to their forums. We can't help you here. If you do not have a Verizon Galaxy S3 (sch-i535), we can not help you.
Hey everyone,
I need a little bit of help. My Nexus is having a bit of an issue. I've looked around but can't seem to find anything similar.
The phone boots completely, shows the boot animation, shows the lockscreen with notifications. I can drag down the notification bar, turn on WiFi etc with no issue. As soon as I either unlock it or click on settings, the screen goes completely blank. Safe Mode does not seem to make any difference.
I've done a Factory Reset using Recovery mode and now after booting it shows the Language options for setup and the screen once again turn off. Pressing the power button after that gives a clicking sound but no picture. I've uploaded a video here https://gfycat.com/PoliteCommonAmmonite
Any clue what I am supposed to do?
Thanks for your help!

Has no one encountered this issue before ? I'm very rusty Android-wise and haven't had much chance playing with Nexus devices.
maybe hardware issue

I have similar problem.. turn on n5 and when not moving it works fine, I can get the phone on,
The screen flickers and goes dark or touch won't work are some occurrences. Phone still works ie gets sms and etc. With research for a few weeks. Seems that it's not software related but hardware related. I am hoping it is a flex cable problem or a loose cable problem which is cheapest. If a screen replacement is needed then it's not worth the work. Just buy a new phone. I got mine secondhand at a way cheaper price. Too bad cuz I like it it's nice enough for me.

I'm fairly certain this is software related as :
1. The screen plays the turn off animation (a-la old CRT TV) when it turns off
2. The screen turns off at the same time everytime it is rebooted (and before the reset would stay on until the screen was unlocked)
3. The power button still works to reboot the phone.
Hardware or software

To make sure it is not indeed a hardware problem we should perform a sort of "hard reset" (not to be confused with button combinations to reset the devices software) . Turn off the device if it is on. Take off the back cover, remove the six silver screws holding the plate over the motherboard. Once that is off you should firstly lift the battery flex cable up gently. (see sample pic) With doing this we ensure that all power is gone and no other components will be shorted. The idea here is lifting and reconnecting the the flex cables and wires to make sure everything is really how it should be. (resetting them all) Basically tearing it down. I would just unplug the battery and then unscrew the four screws at the bottom to access the LCD flex cable underneath the speaker. Lift and re seat the LCD connector and reassemble the phone (battery being last thing re seated)
It doesn't hurt to try this method to rule out the hardware side. If you don't know how or need help PLEASE contact me first for advice so you don't end up with a broken Nexus 5.
What will Hard reset rule out?

Two things.
1. question if done this process and the problem still comes back what does that rule out? If the problem does not come back then the problem was hardware?
2. I did reseating but did not reseat one cable or maybe all of the flex able connectors and the battery was still in place. and it was not connected last, rather it was first i just took connectors on and off and did not want to mess with the black wire as it was very thin and small.
Result of #2 was that the problem went away for a while, seemed to "help" but did not fix it completely.
unlock ur bootloader ! flash a rom and install any kernel which supports colour profiles like Elementalx flash then open kerrnel manager and change the colour profile to vomer_amoled if u like it! or back to stock!
Alright so I've done so far :
Reinstalled stock from scratch (Still the same issue)
Unlocked bootloader
Installed TWRP ( I can play around in TWRP with no issue whatsoever, screen doesn't go off)
Sideloaded Pure Nexus, GApps and blu_spark91 kernel
Tried scraping all of that and going with CWM and CM, still no dice (although the sound is different!)
STILL THE SAME #!&%$ ISSUE. But now I can select the language. When I click the yellow arrow, I get that same issue where I can't turn the screen back on. The power button still plays the lock/unlock sound through the speaker.
I should also mention the power button works perfectly when using TWRP or CWM.
I have no clue what the hell I am supposed to do now..... Please help. I've never opened the phone myself.
Hello, I would like to suggest a hardware cleaning of the power button. It may or may not help, but I assume you would like to try something different to remedy the issue.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doPuXkQTGbc
The video shows how to remove the motherboard in order to clean the power button.
I had done this on another Nexus 5 that turned off randomly. I didn't want to replace the power button but cleaning it removed the problem for me.
Hello. Hope this is the right place to ask this.
I changed a setting under "factory setting" and now the HU wont boot up. The setting was "Default power status" changed it from on to off. I also turned of the canbus under factory setting and when i wanted to exit i needed to reboot and then it never booted up again. It might boot up but there isnt comming anything on the screen.
I really hope that someone call help me fix this.
My unit it this on. Bought on iceboxauto http://www.iceboxauto.com/opel-astra-j-2010-2012-android-60-b5754

In my px3 i set default Power status in "off" and i have no problem.
Did you try to hold Power button (about 15 sec. till blinking led lights) for resetting HU?
Sorry for my bad english

There are no fysical buttons on the unit. I have tried to hold the power button on my dash board but stil nothing happen
You can try:
1) reset button (if there is It, you can check under gps slot)
2) unplug the connector or turn off the fuse box to reset the hu

Press reset until you see light blinking (15-20sec). Release and press again reset until marshmallow logo appears...release and you will enter into recovery menu

I talked to the seller today and he told me to press the reset button next to the gps slot. When i told him there isnt anything behind the hole he didnt know what to do. Great :silly:
I got my unit up running again. Because i dont have any fysical buttons on my unit and i ****ed up the canbus setting the only way to wake the HU up again is to disassemble the screen and on the board there are some connection where you can solder wires to. One of them is "key1" and when i put i wire from that to GND the screen turned on. There is also a "key_rst" thats for resetting the HU. There isnt any wires on those so later i will make it on my own so i dont have to disassemble the screen if i **** something up
Hey , I did the same mistake with "default power status". I can get into recovery menu, is it enough to wipe the firmware(not MCU) of the device?
Thanks
Made the same mistake with this setting.
If I press and hold power button after about 15 seconds button lights come on and then flash. Keeping hold of button and lights stays on but screen is doing nothing.
Reset button causes lights to flash but then go out. Again nothing on screen.
Mtcd px5 unit.
Seems like something is going on because a message of 'other' appears on car standard fit display next to clock which is what generally appears when head unit was working.
Maybe there is combination of power an reset needed.
Eventually into recovery press and hold power button until lights flash then let go and press again. Took a few goes to get timing right. Then key was that I had an exported MCU conf file so I reflashed MCU with this so default power setting was back to being OK.

I have the exact same problem, I changed the "Default power status" in factory settings to off and after the reboot the system would not come back up. Odd part is if I wait a few minutes my phone will still connect to the radio via bluetooth. Seems almost like only the LCD is not powering on. Since I can still get to recovery would it be possible to get a copy of your MCU conf file so I can try and reflash? My unit is a KGL and I currently have the 7th Floor mod MCU installed on the radio. Any help anyone can provided would be much appreciated.

Never mind I was able to grab the modified DMCU.IMG KGL file from here, and then add the DMCU.CFG file from here, then throw them on the root of my GPS SD card, then boot into recovery and flashed the MCU. After the reboot the screen came right on. I just had to go into factory settings and make the needed changes for my radio.
I was stupid enough to did this same to my HU.
All because it draw 0.25A when in slip mode (ACC OFF).
I try to different options to drop power consumption and change this option in process.
Off course I have brick my unit. Any way to recovery it??
Dont have any hardware buttons no GPS slot. How to reset this unit??
Any ideas??

Suggest having a read through links in my signature. If your unit, which you havent said what type it is - is drawing 0.25A in sleep, then that's a problem.

My Unit is MTCE GS PX5.
It was unit with out radio module (xtrons for Freelander2) so i solder one on board. In process have to change MCU from GS to KDL to get it work. Then when unplug ACC cable from 12V radio going to sleep and after few seconds will constant draw 0.25A around 3W. I cant remember how it was before but previews owner sold to me because of battery draining issue. I believe its bit much as will drain car battery quite fast. So i try to find a way to eliminate this flaw. In order i change option "Default power status" to off and since that my screen is blank. Looks like radio is working as Bluetooth is broadcasting. I try to fiddling with it for bit more if not probably only option is to program STM32 with ST-Link STLink V2 Programmer. Maybe any ideas how to reset this settings.
BTW bit stupid to put option that can brick you radio in easy accessible place.

Just little update. I already order ST programmer and now wait for delivery.
When i have close look (and from different angle) on radio screen I can see that radio boot to OS and first page pop out. Just screen back light not working and touch as well.
Also Usb is switch off so no keyboard can be connected. Only option is to reset this setting but dont know how or programming MCU.

Job Done.
Radio back to live by programmed MCU using ST link.
Still problem with drainage but already order new MCU and will try to replace it as at the moment STM32 is very warm when on STBY (ACC OFF) so probably there is a problem.

Do you know how can I enter recovery / reinstall firmware on a Winston PX3 without any buttons? just reset.
The unit is made of Opel Insignia and uses the car button. The power power button only switches the screen on / off and nothing more.
Is stuck at the lollipop logo without anything else.
I tried all the method here... reset, keyboard without any luck
RK tools not working since is not seen by the laptop
Bootable SD, same... no luck.
Thanks in advance
I also want to know that, never find solutions at this time.
I have same car with same head unit, do you have a good radio reception?
Read here and tell us if it works ... on my witson px3 android 5.1.1 works this procedure to enter in recovery... good lock

Solved after taking out the unit.
The trick with power button does not work since on Insignia access to the power radio buttons is via canbus interface. Power button only switches screen on and off when not in Android... nothing more.
So solution:
Is easier if the unit is not mounted in the car, I have not tried to enter recovery after a reset, but maybe I will try sometime.
1. Disconnected all power from the unit... ACC & BAT disconnected
2. Prepared 12V power supply with on negative and two positive connectors
3. Connected negative to GND & one positive to BAT
4. Connected USB keyboard
5. Press right ALT (ALT GR on some keyboards) and PrintScreen
6. Connected the other positive lead to ACC (unit does not work if both BAT and ACC are not connected)
6a. Start pressing repeatedly on E (not holding E pressed, but press...release... press... release..... rapidly)
7. The boot logo shows (Lollipop...etc) and after a few seconds the unit reboots itself
8. Release right CTRL & PrintScreen and continue to repeatedly press on E.
9. The Recovery shows on screen.
Sweet success at last.
I put a USB stick with Hal9k room and selected install from USB and clean... waited for 15-20 minutes and everything fine.
Mounted the unit in the car after switching to MicroG and configuring apps.
Hope this helps others who have problems getting into recovery.

Hi,
Found solution, described in the previous post.
Reception is good. I had also a power amplifier mounted but did not improve reception futher so got rid of it.
Hal9k ROM with MicroG is much faster than stock one.
