If you unlock the bootloader you may void the warranty. By Unlocking Bootloader you can install TWRP, Flash Rooting Zip file or custom ROM on your phone. Read more What is unlocking below. Follow this guide on How to Unlock Bootloader on Redmi 5 . Try this only on Redmi 5 smartphone. This method to unlock bootloader on Redmi 5 is simple to follow. But please do read the steps below carefully.
1. Apply for official unlock permission with your Mi-Account. Go to this link: http://en.miui.com/unlock/
2. After you’ve applied and received unlock permission from MIUI sign into your Mi-Account on your phone.
3.Enable “Developer options” on your device by tapping few times on MIUI version.
4.Go to “Developer options” and enable “OEM Unlocking”, then go to “Mi Unlock Status” and tap on “Add account and device”. “Mi Unlock Status” is available on Developer ROM versions as well as the latest Stable ROMs. There’s still a chance that you can get a device without “Mi Unlock Status” option, in this case you’ll need to flash the latest Developer Weekly ROM version first.
5.Download and install the latest version of MiFlashUnlock (unlocking with MiUnlock 1.x version won’t work).
6.Install MiFlashUnlock, open it and press “Agree” button.
7.Sign into your Mi-account.
8.Turn off your phone completely and start it in fastboot mode. Press “Power” and “Volume Down” buttons at the same time until fastboot logo appear on the screen.
9.Connect your phone to PC in fastboot mode and press “Unlock” button.
10.If everything was done the right way the progress bar will stop at 99% and you’ll see “Binding time is too short, less than 72 hours” or “After XX hours of trying to unlock the device” message.
11.Now you’ll have to wait until the countdown. There’s no way to skip or make the process faster. Do not change Mi-Account or flash different ROM version at this point.
12.After the required waiting period is over, open the MiUnlock tool once again and repeat steps from 6 to 9. Now you’ll be able to unlock the bootloader finally.
13.You can check the bootloader lock status by going to “Mi Unlock Status” in the settings menu.

i skipped 360 hours like that in this guide :
I would suggest.. If you have doubt on the process of unlocking your bootloader.. That,
You can always start with a new miui acount all together...and start the proces fresh..
If you want to do that..
Ensure that you remove your device from your old miui acount 1st..
1. Try using miui id number rather then number or email..
When register ..or login on pc or ur fone.
2. Login to miui cloud on ur pc and locate ur device ..
3. Bind ur device to your miui acount..
4. On pc download miui tool..
On hp ..enable dev option ..
Usb debug n oem unlock..
5. Detect ur device via miui unlock n then power down hp to fastboot.. Once detectd it wil start unlok process..
6. Wait for next instruction.. It will show how many hours to wait..before u try again nxt time
If u folow corect steps ther is no reason for it to fail..
Just wait for duration stated by mi unlock n dont keep forcing to unlock it when u already c the period to wait.. Ok?

Patched? I tried this on my mi 8 and I had no luck. The error said phone linked to wrong Mi account

how high is the risk that is formatted during the unlock of the internal memory? my redmi 5 is completely furnished. I also made a backup on the sd card and online. unfortunately not all apps are supported during backup. the new equipment especially the games would be really tedious.

Thn Backup to PC it is not a risk it just formats u r internal storage

I have a question. I just got this phone today and I've never had a Xiaomi device before.
I went to the link to request an unlock but the only thing that I saw was to download the unlock tool and the steps outlined on that page said to simply bit into bootloader and then run the unlock tool on the PC. Am I going to mess anything up or am I doing anything wrong?

I'm new user of xiaomi brand
I'm using this device for 1 week
I want to know what does this rosy means
My phone is redmi 5 that's all i know but i didn't notice rosy mentioned on my phone
Could anyone clear my doubt about this ??
And how i find out that my device is rosy or not
Cause i want to unlock bootloader to cuztomize my phone with new custom roms and i don't want to take any risk with my device

I was very nervous about this device also but through my digging I found out a few things.
Rosy is the "code name" for the Redmi 5, just like every other phone has a code name before it's announced to the public. For example a few Sony phones are named Maple and Poplar
It won't mention Rosy anywhere on the phone settings but if you have a Xiaomi Redmi 5 then it's a Rosy.
As far as unlocking the bootloader is concerned, just follow the link in the guide to the unlock page and download the new version of the unlock tool, install that on your computer and run the program while the phone is in bootloader mode and the program will take care of the rest. I'm not sure how long it will take because I bought mine already unlocked so for me it was instant but at is that's the process.

Question. In my case when trying to unlock the message is this: "Couldn't unlock after 720 hours of trying to unlock the device".
720 / 24 = 30 days
Am I really-really-really tied for 30 days before "attempting" again? Is it really legal for any company to do this to its users?

Hi, sorry for the late reply. You must have already installed CWM/TWRP (choose one). And how to enter CWM/TWRP? Just restart your phone, when the Sony logo is appearing, try to tap the volume down button repeatedly and fast. If you didnt understand, please search it on this forum

When you first boot your pc, suddenly press the F8 button, or you can go to Charm menu -> Settings -> Change PC Settings -> go to General -> Scroll down 'till you find Advanced Startup. Then select the one who have "Disable Digital Signature Check of Driver" or something
Nice, but I think it should be in the development forum, and also add a link to a CWM install tutorial.

Root for Xperia E3 D2203 with locked BL

Hello everyone!
At the beggining I really would like to give my regards to:
- @mbc07
- @costel90
- @vinay
and other people from topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-e3/help/root-locked-bootloader-t3038518 for any help and / or ideas;
- @AndroPlus and japanese developer, キューブキューブ @cubeundcube for posting rootkitXperia ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559009 )
Great job people - I really appreciate your work for entire community.
Remember - don't bother me, if you do anything wrong and brick your device - you are doing this at your own responsibility.
/ -- /
Let's begin rooting our Xperia E3 D2203! I will show you my way to root:
0. Make backup and load up the battery (at least 60%), download and install flashtool ( http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php ), download and install Sony PC Companion (to provide drivers)
1. Obtain your firmware's FTF file (easiest way is to use XperiFirm)
and this firmware: http://uploaded.net/file/f1wll17r (it's Xperia M2 JellyBean kernel) ,
and copy them to: %userprofile%\.flashtool\firmwares ( for WinXP %userprofile% leads to c:\documents and settings\username; in Win Vista and laters: to C:\Users\username )
2. Turn off the phone
3. Connect it to USB cable with Vol- tapped. Make sure that all drivers have been installed successfully and disconnect USB (this is one-time step, if you have ever flashed your phone you probably don't need to do this again)
4. Run flashtool, click thunder icon, select flashmode, choose 18.5.C.0.19 firmware and click Flash
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
5. Connect USB with Vol- tapped when asked by flashtool
6. Wait until flashtool ends flashing (you will see messsages like this:
INFO- Ending flash session
INFO- Flashing finished.
INFO- Please unplug and start your phone)
then disconnect phone from usb, power on and wait to boot
7. Go to menu > settings
8. Go to about phone, tap few times on 'compilation number' to enable programmer settings. Go there, enable mock location (may be not nessesary) and USB Debugging
9.Go to security settings, turn ON unknown sources and turn OFF verify apps
10. Plug in USB to ensure that all drivers are installed properly (especially Sony ADB Interface driver)
11. Download giefroot_debug_D2203_modded.zip file ( https://mega.co.nz/#!sscXQKwB!qOIv2a70SH6UAM8vhySQIeEcYXrkkXXfh_X98q5rdDk ) unzip it and run install.bat
12. IMPORTANT STEP - make sure you allowed permanently to debug from your PC, when window appears
13. giefroot will inform you, that rooting has failed - that's OK - it was only to ensure, that your pc is allowed to debug
14. Now we have our phone prepared. Turn it off.
15. In flashtool click thunder icon, select flashmode
16. Select Kernel from Jelly Bean firmware
17. Connect to USB with vol- tapped and wait for flashtool to finish, disconnect USB
18. Power on your phone - you will see Xperia logo for a 1 seconds or 2, but it disappears and you will see only black display - that's ok - it's expected behavior.
19. Wait about 30 seconds and connect USB - make sure that Windows installs driver for ADB Interface Driver (you can ignore MTP driver prompts)
20. Download rootkitXperia ( https://mega.co.nz/#!Mt1zkAyQ!Z2Wg9xQyNCbPt6ksS-Dw76-ifSb_lGvQbFK7zP0yJ9E ), unzip rootkitXperia_20140719.zip and run install.bat
21. Wait for commands: done root command, wait 10 seconds...
22. When you see rebooting message, disconnect from usb, take out back cover, and push off button with needle. After that turn on the phone,at black screen wait 30 seconds and, after that, plug in USB
23. when rootkitXperia ends, you will see message all finished - turn phone off again with button under the back cover (as in step 22)
24. Now we need to restore D2203 kernel
25. Go to flashtool, thunder icon, flashmode, choose firmware from point 4, but BE CAREFUL! - select all things as this is showed on screenshot below: tick OFF wipe cache, data, tick ON exclude bootbundle, partition, ta, fota, baseband, system, elabel - you should see only two files: kernel.sin and loader.sin in content section
26. Now click flash, connect phone to usb with vol-, wait until flashtool finishes, disconnect usb and turn on the phone
27. When phone boots, connect again usb, go to giefroot_debug_D2203_modded.zip content again and run install2.bat
28. When script ends, update su binary with superSu and reboot You have now root access and RW permissions to / and /system
Yop,
Thank you ! ♥ I will try this.
Unfortunately, after doing every step as it is written, after flashing Xperia M2 kernel, phone just won't boot. Sony logo dissapears after 2 seconds and screen is black for long time and it won't boot at all.
I have D2203 with locked bootloader and not allowed to unlock..

Turns out my work laptops antivirus instantly removed the .exe
Does the bootloader need to be locked to get into this preload mode and to dump the rom? I already unlocked it before.
Now if I hold up and down volume and plug in the phone Rom2box says "..handshake failed..". Rebooted after installing mediatek and usbdk drivers and I also tried different usb ports.

The same story for me, the phone can't be put in preload or download mode or whatever they call it. I know one thing it is my last Oneplus phone if they're all going to be pain in the arse like this one. I guess it's back to my old 6t for another while then.
Accessing it by way of Recovery mode is also broken. To try it yourself, boot in to Recovery, connect your phone to your computer with usb-c cable. Multi-tap version number, it will eventually ask you if you want download mode and you click yes. It will attempt reboot into download mode, fail and then will `normal` boot phone.

connect in Proper way= install Latest usbdk and mtk driver, start process turn Phone off press volume up & down key and then Insert USB, once the Phone is detected release keys
Thanks for the info, though I have been doing that setup all along. I dual windoze and Linux. My windows is a custom minimal version of windows 10 with feck all on it. I upgraded this phone to stock 12 beta yesterday and ROM2Box for a wonder is happily doing a dump of that. It should be interesting when I downgrade to stock 11 and try to do a dump of that.
@mark332 thanks for the advice, phone happily did dump with the OxygenOS 12 Open Beta 1 but refused point blank to do a dump with OxygenOS 11 Build number: IV2201_11_A13. Is there any difference in your phone setup to my own - bootloader unlocked?

Nice, May be BROM is disabled on stable version so you are not able to dump OxygenOS 11

Hi @mark332, sorry I wasn't able to get to you sooner about this. Coredump was only possible with OxygenOS 12.1 beta, BROM was definitely locked down in 11. I succeeded with 12 but 'out' folder looks incomplete, files like ''preloader' which is in the beta package are missing from the dump. I don't think I would be able return to stock with ROM2box, maybe manually with fastboot commands.
Well downgrading this phone from OxygenOS 12 beta 1 to OxygenOS 11 has left it without a working touch screen in the normal mode or recovery so it is now a dust collector unless Oneplus / Oppo are willing to fix it.

I guess I used OnePlus's rollback guide once too often besides it is a beta, I was bound to get bitten in the arse evenually; https://community.oneplus.com/thread?id=1110424001643544581

I guess if BROM mode works, use the bypass method to flash back to A11.v
Ah you see, the fecking phone managed to rollback to 11 but the touch screen driver is broken I guess. Physical buttons work but touch is broken. So I have contacted Oneplus tech support so we'll see what response I get tomorrow.

Trouble Unlocking Bootloader

I am having hard time unlocking my Poco F1's bootloader, to start installing custom ROMs.
The phone's responding and is compatible with adb commands, in stock ROM and as well as in recovery. But in fastboot mode, it's having issues.
When phone is in fastboot mode and connected with the PC, it recognises the device and has a phone serial number in place when running the fastboot devices command. Just after 2-3 seconds of connection, the fastboot devices command holds for a while and returns multiple question marks(???????) in the place of device serial number.
I have tried switching PCs and changing USB cable and still same error. I am yet to try in on Windows 7, but have tried it on Windows 10 and 11. All gave same issues. Some PC don't even detect the device and the phone charges only. I have made sure the correct bootloader drivers are installed in Device Manager every time too.
The Mi Unlock tool says there is no device connected due to this. It is annoying me to the point that I have even tried using a 2.0 USB extension cable to see if it works. I would have tried with a USB 2.0 hub but I sadly don't own one and I don't want to buy it just for this.
Any insights or help will be of great help, thanks in advance.
If you think you have followed all the steps correctly, I suggest you read this article that I read yesterday. I had read that some models, including the Pocophone f1, use a special security.
Xiaomi's Anti-Rollback Protection Explained: How to avoid bricking your phone
All Xiaomi smartphones and tablets will have anti-rollback protection enabled. What is it and how do you avoid bricking your device because of it?

If the problem you are experiencing is not caused by what is described in this article, I suggest that you double-check the steps you have followed.I had a similar problem before and solved the problem using the driver installation option in the mi flash application.

Thanks for responding, I will take a look at the article once.
I have made sure that all steps were followed correctly and I think everything was in order. I have already made sure correct drivers were installed multiple times.
What's weird with my device is that, unlike other Poco F1 devices this one in particular does not have any OTG option in settings, I don't know if it's a software or a hardware issue. The device is on MIUI 12.0.3 Stable(QEJMIXM).
OTG option? OTG is not the traditional adapter that we use to insert a usb stick into the phone? are there some parts that I know are missing, please inform me

I read the article again and I want to ask a part that stuck in my mind. Do you not use the unlock software to unlock the bootloader? As far as I know, it is not possible to perform this operation with ADB commands.

Kindly read my original post again, I do use the Mi Unlock tool and do connect the phone via Fastboot/Bootloader mode.
I think we can solve this problem, only my ability to speak English makes it difficult for me sometimes. If you want, let's try again step by step, you can call me on Instagram for this? my instagram account name: canerorak_
hello my friend. I solved this problem for you personally. Follow the steps in screenshots
After step 2, I restart the phone without disconnecting the usb.Then I activate usb debugging mode.After entering fastboot mode, I open the mi unlock application and repeat the step in the images.If you encounter the warning I mentioned in step 2 again, press and hold the volume down + power button for 10 seconds and enter fast mode again. That's all.The unlock button has become active. Now the system recognizes my device because I have installed the drivers required for fastboot

Thanks for your time and effort in finding a potential solution for me.
But I hate to say that I have already tried installing Mi drivers through Mi Unlock Tool like you have suggested here. That is not the problem.

I understand you.just clicking the install drivers button, wait for the confirmation screen and restart the phone by pressing the power button for 7 seconds without disconnecting the device from the usb.After the device is turned on, turn the usb debugging mode off and on again, and without disconnecting the usb, press and hold the volume down + power key for 7 seconds and log in to fastboot again.Close and open the mi unlock tool and apply the driver update option again. To get the correct result, use usb 2.0 port and windows 10. Even adding a new user on your computer and applying these steps from the new user account will give the correct result.
Some sentences may be wrong because I wrote with google translate. I'm doing this job, I could help you if you called me on Instagram. I don't have any free time now, take care of yourself, I hope you solve the problem

As far as I understood, start from fastboot connected state, check for drivers button, the dialogue will ask to reconnect, but do not reconnect. Restart phone by long pressing power button, toggle off and on USB debugging option, restart to Bootloader while still staying connected by pressing Power + Volume Down button. Fastboot shows up and it shows 'Mi Drive Installed' dialogue on screen. Re launch Mi Unlock Tool and hit Unlock option.
If this was the procedure you wanted to convey, I will say sadly it did not work. I successfully got Mi Drive Installed dialogue without disconnecting USB, but still Mi Unlock Tool shows No Device Connected upon relaunching it.

Anladığım kadarıyla, fastboot bağlı durumundan başlayın, sürücüleri kontrol edin buton, diyalog yeniden bağlanmayı isteyecek, ancak yeniden bağlanmayın. Güç düğmesine uzun basarak telefonu yeniden başlatın, USB hata ayıklama seçeneğini kapatıp açın, Güç + Sesi Kısma düğmesine basarak bağlı kalırken Bootloader'a yeniden başlayın.

Do not close the mi unlock app after you see the warning that the driver is installed.restart the fastboot mode. When doing this, remember that the usb debugging mode is turned off and the phone is connected to the computer.
Finally, reset your phone and computer and try everything from the beginning. I'm sorry if it's not solved despite everything. This problem is very annoying, don't forget to tell me if you solve it one day. Good luck

Question [BOOTLOADER] [OEM-LOCK] Poco x3 Pro [vayu] - I locked the bootloader... am I dumb?

Hi.
So, I was playing a game like everyday with my phone and then it suddenly stopped working and rebooted. After the reboot it got stuck on a boot-loop and wasn't unable to boot normally again. I got into the recovery and after many tries I was able to reinstall the ROM (PixelExperience 12-Plus) but after a few minutes it stopped working again and got into the boot-loop... again. I tried to reinstall the ROM again but I wasn't able to, so I decided to try with another recovery, I was using OrangeFox and after that I tried with TWRP. I got it to work with TWRP but then it crashed again but before doing it I got this screen:

It never happened before and I was scared, "Did I just broke my phone?" I thought. So I asked a friend for help and he told me to try with Fastboot, he sent me a few command lines to try and... I ****ed up. The first line that I wrote was "fastboot oem lock" and the phone rebooted with this screen:
I literally locked the bootloader and now I'm unable to flash any ROM or even unlock it with MI-Unlocker 'cause I didn't have any MI account on the phone. I still can get into the fastboot but no more than that.
Is there anything that I can do? Or I should just send it to repair? Or buy a new brain for myself?

Lesson #1: Never do something when you don't know what the outcome will be, unless you're able to accept negative consequences. You should NEVER EVER lock the bootloader on custom firmware unless a custom root of trust has been installed, as with CalyxOS/GrapheneOS/etc.
Try to unlock the bootloader using fastboot flashing unlock or fastboot oem unlock
If those don't work, your phone is bricked, and you're going to have to either have it repaired or replace it, both of which will be expensive.

That won't work, to unlock this phone you must use the Xiaomi official tool: https://en.miui.com/unlock/download_en.html
@SalmonellaREAL now you must pay to unlock it with an official Xiaomi account for EDL or you must go to an official repair center. I recommend you the second option, I never tried first.
Never lock bootloader unless the ROM has a self signed certifcates, in vayu there aren't any ROM with this.

I believe you can still use ADB as long as you use the correct token for the unlock. I'm not very familiar with Xiaomi phones though so I'm not sure what the correct syntax would be.
I did find this:
GitHub - Canny1913/miunlock: A program that can be used to retrieve the bootloader unlock token for Xiaomi devices. (and unlock the bootloader)
A program that can be used to retrieve the bootloader unlock token for Xiaomi devices. (and unlock the bootloader) - GitHub - Canny1913/miunlock: A program that can be used to retrieve the bootload...
github.com
Description says it can retrieve the bootloader unlock token and unlock the device.
