Hi, I'm trying to set up a nice little android 7.1 system to attach to my TV using a HDMI cable though I'm having a bit of trouble with the resolution. I'm getting a black border around the screen - See the below image.

This is what the laptop screen looks like below.
I've plugged in another laptop that has windows installed and noted down the resolution which is 1280x768. I've also found the corresponding vga values both 16 and 32. 1280x768x16 = 888 and 1280x768x32 = 889
When I add either of these to the menu.lst file I get a message on boot stating that I'm using an undefined video number.
Like the below image:
I've typed scan to get the video modes available but there are no resolutions that match the aspect ratio of my screen. I've tested the ones listed but they still either don't take up the whole screen or match the aspect ratio.
The below image shows a list of codes that I have found.
The laptop I'm running this on is pretty old but with windows or any of the other Linux distros I've found I have no problem.

Is there any way of getting around this? Or am I going about this the wrong way?
Many thanks!!!
Let me know if I need to provide more info!
OK I've managed to figure it out incase anyone was wondering.
Instead of booting with a vga=someNumber I used video=LVDS-1:d. This works a treat!
The only problem with this is would be that it doesn't use the laptop screen at all. But for me this is not a problem really.
I believe that the laptop resolution is not the same as the TV and the TV cannot resize to match the resolution (mirroring).
When you use video=LVDS-1:d you disable the laptop screen and it can use the TVs resolution just fine.
I am not sure that you can use the TV as an extended screen like xrandr would allow.

The device seems to be very good.
Who is the manufacturer? Does anyone have information?
Is there any topic on XDA?
Is there some kernel honeycomb compatible?
Apparently there are several tablets on the same processor.
The more popular device have greater chances of updates.

What is so great about this device? Chances are it does not have access to the Market and its future upgreadability is questionable at best. For not much more money you can get Dell Streak or Nook Color and have a "legit" device.
it would be nicer if they add more RAM
DX always keep release new tablets every day
don't rush to get one unless you really want it
Just got in a Dutch Toy store (InterToys.nl) a clone of a such device - FView 7" Pro. Only EUR 135. Looks quite right price for such hardware, but build is not perfect, of course. And there is quite of mistakes including Chinese language in some places.
But the device is very quick and responsive, Quadrant score above 1200.
In Europe/NL FView they have site (in Dutch) - http://www.tabletsupport.eu/fview2
Tool they are using to flash firmware - RKDeviceManager
how long the battery life..?

I Telechips Cortex A8 8 inch Android 2.3 Tablet PC. I have no idea what I can do with it.I can not believe I root ...My opinion is a tablet for those who do not know much.I would be happy to make root.I do not know anything about the tablet. Can someone help me?
You probably won't be able to find any support for these kind of devices once you want to root and put a custom rom on it. But if you want to use it as it is, then it looks ok.

Hello. I took a gamble and purchased a no name tablet off ebay. It said it has Android 4.0.3 OS, WiFi, FM receiver and GPS. I was going to use this device as a car pc of sorts but I need a couple things to work that I just cant get figured out. The module in my car either has to be connected with bluetooth or WiFi (ad hoc). Also the FM feature will only transmit to a radio and not receive radio stations. It just gets an error and closes the app. Also the GPS has been searching for satellites for about 2 hours now and never gets connected. Is there any way to fix the Rom or kernel to get these items working? I have also tried connecting a bluetooth dongle via USB? The device is rooted.

Allwinner (A10 & A13) is a relatively new entry in chinese markets (from 2011).
Allwinner provides the standard Android and Linux sources to OEMs and are available open online.
github.com / allwinner-ics
github.com / amery / linux-allwinner
But both GPS and FM are external peripherals as far as Allwinner is concerned. Hence both the hardware and software details will have to be obtained from the OEM for your tablet.
I will try emailing the seller to get these details. Is there any way to view the chip on the motherboard to tell what it has? Or maybe find out another way in the software?
I finally got the device connected to the gps and it found my location (even though its about 100 feet off) I would still appreciate help either identifying the device or help finding a way to connect it to the device in my car.
Thanks again.

PIPO Tablet has leaded a new type of digital product--Mini PC TV Box according to the demand of the current market in 2015, which looks like a TV Box, while has a full screen and touch pad, and it also is more similiar with the tablet pc, but it can only be worked when connected with the DC power supply. As for the Mini PC TV Box advantages and disadvantages, in summary, it can support a continus usinf for dozens of hours. This kind of product combined the advantages of Tablet PC, TV Box, and mini PC, and offers a full new choice for the customers.
Currently, PIPO Tech has developed two PIPO Mini PC TV Box models--PIPO X8, PIPO X9, and both have gained a lot of popularity from the market. The difference of PIPO X8 and X9 is the screen size. X8 is equipped with a 7 inch scree, while PIPO X9 has a 8.9 large screen.

Judging from the above picture, we can see the two mini pc tv box are more similiar in appearance, while different in size. Moreover, both the PIPO X8 and X9 has offered a better expand performace, such as 1 x RJ45 LAN Port, 4 x Standard USB Ports, 1 x HDMI port, etc.
After connecting with the display via the HDMI cable, the "Mini PC TV Box" will show the external monitor as "Display 2" by default, while the smal screen of its own will be the "Display 1". Well. how to set the two monitors, it has a obivous option on the Windows system. And you can choose "Copy the monitor", or "Expamd the monitor" or "Close one of the monitor" by yourself.
"Copy monitor" means make it show the same contents of the different size screen, and it is sure to be more useful when operating with PPT.
"Expand monitor" can make the different screens show different contents.
What's the Significance of the "Mini PC TV Box"?
1. Compared with the mini pc, it is much safer and has a lower power consumption
2. Compared with the TV Box, is has more functions, and is much more freedom
3. Compared with the traditional tablet, it will be more practical for family using.
Thanks for your helpful information. Where to buy PIPO X9?
I need connect an ex HDD to TV Box in Android mode. Do you know?

These are all the parts i wane buy for the build, maybe there are some comments on the parts i picked.

And these are the units connections.
The questions i am left with after 2 weekends research:
Do you have normally root access to these units, at minimum wane install a firewall, but a upgrade path would be nice.
Can you install different ROMs?
Unit comes with a Toyota cable set, are these standard connections for all normal Toyota models. (Have a Avensis 2007 / model type T25)
Can i keep using the controls on the wheel, or do i need a extra box?
Can you record 2 USB DVR streams at the same time on the unit? (would be nice extra)
Are the USB DAB+ dongles similar in quality, or is it, you get what you pay for.
Lots of questions, but Android car is not your standard PnP drop in unit.
Any questions people can help me with would be appreciated, greetings Michael
