Please post here your experiences, good or bad, with the official stock Android 5.0 update on the N9005 snapdragon.
The majority of reviews I found so far on the web are not really praising, but of course it's also only a few days since the update is available, so it would be useful if we had a thread with all the facts as to know if it's better to wait for the 5.1 update which I I've heard rumors of that it would be on the way already.
If there are some issues it could save some people from wasting a 1.3Gb download, which is in my case almost my complete monthly allowance on my 3G connection.
Official update, moderate use, some application development, some tweaking here.
Responsiveness is good, ART really is zippy, but the stock bloatware seems to be dodgier than usual. Battery life is 4-5h on idle, phone doubles as a hand-warmer. I hope that feature switches off automatically once spring starts.
Phone is really snappy, performance is great . Of course still had to disable the usual Samsung bloatware. But still faster than my debloated KitKat was. Everything is fluid, and the animations are a nice touch.
No multiuser accounts. Not sure why.
I really hate Heads up Notifications, especially with Whatsapp which I use most of the time.
Heads up is one of the main reasons why I would install it, because all the heads up apps from Playstore have one or another flaw.
I hope Kercharon's comment on the battery was made tongue in cheek, because that wouldn't be very promising, but in fact I've read a similar comment on another site so I'm looking forward to more experiences.

It was, but the battery drain issue is real, and the phone does get hot. It's probably a misconfiiguration that a factory reset would fix - for a start, disabling the unified daemon (eur) service improved battery life expectancy by a factor of two.
I'll be waiting for a debloated ROM myself, preferrably Note4 based, once it gets released.
I came from leaked lollipop to official version. After updating I have done a factory reset by booting in to recovery. Definitely felt snappier than leaked. So I rooted and removed most of the junk from Samsung. Ram usage is lower compared to previous and battery life looks OK. No troubles so far. I'm happy with this update.
I have no problems with battery life after removing bloatware (daemon, Samsung crap, etc)

Removed unified daemon (huge battery drain), removed all Knox crap, removed weather widget and greenified apps that I don't use so much. That's pretty much it.

i am running a Note4 based ROM ( Tweaked_PORT_N4_L_TW_ROM_v3.0_by_g00h ) since almost a month on my Note3 SM-N9005 hlte and it runs like a charm. Bloatware? nope Overheating? nope Battery drain? nope
In normal use (on screen about four and a half hours) battery time lasts for about fifteen hours till phone reminds me to charge or go into ultra power saving mode.
You`ll find the ROM here:

I am noticing some lags some lags while playing a game called Swing Copters! Is this because the game isn't optimised for L yet, or something else?
It's too early to say but the battery life is very good so far, much better than KitKat.
PS: I have one question, has the default auto brightness changed in L? I mean how many nits is it now? I feel that the brightness is a little bit less than KitKat, I don't like it.

I have noticeable lag in Hill Climb Racing too.
Btw, turning the screen on isn't smooth. It's looks like two steps from black to ON. Does anyone else see this?
Thanks for posting your experiences so far guys it for sure will help me, and probably others as well, to decide if it's worth to make the large download now or better wait a little for a first update.
I also read elsewhere that many of the stock apps like dialer, gallery, clock and calculator have now a white background vs a black one in Kitkat, and which I personally don't like. Is that easily to change or not?
There is also much to do about the completely overhauled Touchwiz, but I'm not sure if it is included in the Note 3 firmware. if so is it a great improvement over the old touchwiz?
Keep in mind that this thread is about the official update only, not the leaked version, and definitely not custom roms.
Please keep your posts coming.
Lag on recent app screen when you press the kill all button.
Battery drain due to Indexing Service, remove it if you don't use S Search or My Files.
i got screen frozen issue in the past 3 morning, after the alarm goes off, and the APEX launcher is not responding.
Just press power button off/on , then every thing seems fine. feel like the phone is in deep sleep, and need 10 or so seconds / and press On button for it to wake up.

for me exynos it's overheat as fu.cked
lollipop is so boring not easy to do custom :good:
From the responses so far it looks as if it is better to give it a pass for the time being.
Could any of these issues mentioned in this thread be related to the fact that most have installed a firmware that is actually meant for another region as their phone is?
Were there also issues when Kitkat rolled out, which later have been solved by updates?
hi everyone
i didn't like lollipop yet cause i have battery drain problem. my battery draining faster than kit kat. also kitkat's performance was better in task manager and most of apps.
If you have read a few previous comments you'd know that other people have achieved good battery life by disabling Samsung bloatwares.
Now here is my taking on the new rom:
I installed it yesterday. It runs pretty fast, battery life is extremely good as well. What's missing is the ability to block individual notifications from showing up on lock screen. Also my moto360 gets disconnected and reconnected quite often, like 3 or 4 times an hour. GPS icon flashes every couple of hours on the corner of the status bar, but it doesn't seem to affect battery consumption.
If you want to use face unlock, you need to install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/themes-apps/gapps-smart-unlock-android-5-0-t2962765
Here is mine just some wifi and some internet browsing. Have not rooted it yet still observing and playing around.
Today I got a new firmware update, however in the Play Store says that the changes are "functional improvements", I really have no idea if there's something new, and I have checked and found nothing nor what are the functional improvements.
Wondering just the same but it could be possible they changed something with bluetooth connectivity.
Has anyone else noticed that with this update battery life seems to have taken a real hit?

I definitely have. Used to go two days without recharging. Now I can't make it through one day without it needing to be recharged. Makes this watch pretty useless since I can't sit by a charger all day. Not pleased.
Probably would an update come soon because of battery drain...
I am charging my watch every 3-4 days. So no, battery life not taking a hit for me.

Same for me, about ever 3 day. No difference after new firmware.
33.3.A.0.131 was released on two carriers two minutes ago. Is this the improved / fixed Nougat? It's the same build number as the previous broken Nougat release (33.3.A.0.127) except for the 131.
I think this is Nougat! Since I posted the number of releases seems to be increasing by the minute!

Yes,the battery life is worse than before. I noticed that now, with Nougat, when I see videos from the internet (Firefox), the cellphone becomes hot, and the battery level decreases rapidly.
Poor Signal/Wifi
Ever since I updated my XA the signal and Wifi has become non existent in certain places!! I used to get great signal at work even on very poor Wifi but now it just says no connection even when I turn Wifi off and try to use mobile data! What the hell do I pay my bill for? To not use it?

I don't know how the battery life has been before Nougat as I got this phone today from sale after breaking my old one. This brand new XA has still 57 % of juice left and the screen has been on for 3 hours and 40 minutes. That includes installing apps, surfing the net and trying some features. I'd say that not bad for a 2300 mAh battery

Hi All--
I've been on the Android P Beta for a while.
However, starting with the final beta that was released (and now on the final version of pie) I've been experiencing really quick battery drain.
Tried a total wipe and restore, and the same thing. My wife (also the pixel) isn't having those issues at all.
Thoughts?
(nothing shows up in the battery section)
Yes, I had great battery life. Then once Android Pie was released, jumped on the beta to get 9 sooner. Then got the upgrade from beta to final and battery life is horrible. I did not factory reset, I have battery saver on and it doesn'tseem to matter. If I leave on standby, no issues. If I use the phone, it can bleed as much as 10% per hour! Unacceptable. I may try factory resetting, but idk...
have you allocated sufficient time for app battery optimization?
I also have a pixel, Android 9.0/Pie (bought it brand new three days ago) and think battery is draining very (!) quick.
Yesterday I had roughly 2.5 SOT (with battery saver enabled) and this seems consistent with what I can expect typically. I did factory reset and have tried restricting "background activity" for my frequent apps - seems to make no difference. Obviously it had not time to do full battery optimization yet I guess, but I doubt it would mean a that big difference?
Saw a thread where someone mentioned it seems CPU-freq is high/inc. very rapidly when just tapping the screen (GPU-0%), and I can agree with that although I have not the prev. experience of what to expect.
My previous experience is with Xiaomi mi6/mi5 (lineage 15.1), similar usage would give 2x or 3x SOT (however with some other hw-issues.. ).

Flashed factory image without -w/"wipe". Will that do or should it be "full" factory reset to make sense?
Thank you for your information, I will stay on Oreo.

I don't think it would make a difference. The user data is on a different partition.
You could try flashing the image again, without Magisk or any other additions.
I had used up 50% with only 21 minutes screen on time.
I noticed the app Device Health Services, was constantly active in the background.
I had the same like the OP: everything was fine until the last beta came, and battery is draining faster, phone gets hot from even the smallest usage even in the prod release of android pie.
I was thinking it has something to do with being about 36 degrees (summer time....), but it is the same even in cooler temperature rooms. It's like if the phone is constantly doing something in the background, but only if I use it.
It has been a few days since I upgraded my Pixel 2. Battery life is noticably worse, maybe 20-30% more battery drain in a day than what I saw in Oreo.
I notice the issue as well. I did factory reset after update it's been a week. I was on beta and started noticing battery issues in the first beta and throughout. I decided to install Accubattery to track my battery usage and ended up with a result.
My phone states the battery is in good condition but this app says otherwise. I guess it's time to change the battery along with cracked screen!
i'm curious if my battery is shot as well... Seems like after I purchased my used Pixel.. the battery is not as lasting as I hoped for the smaller pixel phone... I may try one of those battery testing apps to see if it will tell me its current health..
I normally welcome up updates, but this update screwed up my battery life so bad. I mean everything was perfect until the update. Now the battery drains so fast I can watch the percentage count down like a timer and now when the battery gets anywhere from 15-40% the phone will just shut down.
I would like to go back to oreo, but it's such a pain in the ass having to back everything up and flash a ROM considering I haven't done that since before I bought the pixel
I have the same problem. I hope Google can fix it.
Wow, that is not normal. Stock android 9 with root and elemental kernel.... I go back to android 8.1.0 and wait for feature releases
I think I found an Draining App/Setting
I disable the RCS Service on my Phone. It can be found under Messages >> 3 dot Menu >> Settings >> broadcast News. Disable it.
And then Bluetooth and WiFi scan disable.
Same here, crazy idle drain after pie, only 50% deep sleep, tried factory reset and no luck
Try BetterBatteryStats. People in that thread spend their free time analyzing logs to tell you what's eating up all your battery life.

Same problem :crying::crying:
I've had the Pixel 7 pro since December 2022. Ever since then whenever I had the newest version of Android System Intelligence installed this phone would overheat to the point where touching it got uncomfortable, it would thermal throttle, the pixel launcher would lag and the battery would drain way to quickly. I know that uninstalling the updates for Android System Intelligence from the PlayStore and locking it so it doesn't auto update fixes the problem, but my question is. Is there really nothing I can do about this? Will I really have to keep an older build of Android System Intelligence installed just to properly use my phone?
Try in safe mode as it may be a 3rd party app causing the issue. Try clearing data in that app and any associated apps.
Otherwise...
If you really want to go nuts, factory reset then try the updated version. Might get the same result though.
I don't upgrade or update my N10+; it's still running on the same load from 3 years ago with no issues and almost zero down time.
If it's fulfilling its mission let it be...

I'm thankful version T.10.sysimg.pixel7.477131528 of ASI seems to be stable, but yes if this were the case for all versions I wouldn't have hesitated returning this when I had the chance
Really?
Going to test this out over the next couple days. My device previously used to run pretty cool, even though the weather got hotter, but now I'm never underneath 32°C even when idle, lol.
I'm not sure if this affects everyone. I talked to a friend that also has a pixel 7 pro and according to him he doesn't have this problem.
Yeah, it got to the point where even if I left my phone idle, it would be warm to the touch and hot whenever I started using it, even if all I was doing was texting someone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.as
Uninstalling the updates makes it stable again, you might have to restart your device for changes to fully take effect though.
Another thing I could mention is, that going into the battery settings and seeing which app uses the most amount of battery it would end up showing the pixel launcher not ASI, having looked online and trying things out myself I figured ASI was the real culprit and not pixel launcher. Basically I think that features like at a glance, which are integrated into the pixel launcher make use of ASI and for some reason newer versions just like using up a lot of performance in the background, resulting in pixel launcher being reported as a huge battery drainer to android when in reality it's ASI

What's the ambient temperature? If it's running warm now a few days won't help unless you track down the cause. If found, boom, the excessive cpu cycles and heat will stop.
Is global power management active? If so try disabling it.
Are any services disabled? Dependencies...
Try temporarily disabling Google play Services and see if that tones it down. Backup Transport, Playstore and Gmail are dependencies.

Pretty much the same usage day by day, but even with the heat being hotter and the A/C being on, that warmth is just there.
I run strictly custom roms currently, so my device is normally pretty barebone on apps nowadays.
I rolled back to a version from March, as April/May is when the heating did start. I'm actually sitting at 29°C right now as I type this, compared to the 33-35 from the first couple minutes of Telegram.
Going to test it out for a few days and see how it manages on the go and whatnot.

Looking at the milliampere usage real time can yield clues. At idle I want to see it sink below 100ma and go to 70ma or lower occasionally couple times a minute. If I see a lot of high spikes or it's averaging in the 3-400's or higher at idle with no apps open, something's up.
A logging firewall can help pin down which app is sucking the juice.
Custom roms are harder to troubleshoot than stock. If you're rooted you have more monitoring and diagnostic tools available though if you use them.

While I completely agree about everything, apparently, ASI turned out to be the culprit... I'm now at 25°C. I haven't been this low since before the April update. Who would've thought it was that simple, lol.
I've previously tried even stock and on my end, I had only Whatsapp with 2 other apps installed, but I still couldn't get under 33°C. The second I downgraded my ASI, my temps dropped. Everything the OP was experiencing has been my experience that I've been explaining here and there on Telegram as well.

I wouldn't worry about it being "outdated".
The only thing that counts is if it runs well, is a joy to use and is fulfilling its mission.
This N10+ is still running on Pie. It's current load is 3yo now, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance. More play time, less down time.
My day yesterday, I didn't go over 37°C while I was out all day surprisingly and the phone never felt warm in hand.
I wonder if it felt warm previously since something was wonky, but now since it seems more settled, it's not as warm but even at the highest temp(35-37), it feels normal to hold.

Likely something you did. Problem is -what- if it reoccurs
Always best if you can find to root cause. For a frequently reoccurring problem a reboot is not the answer even though it may temporarily solve it. Androids should may able to run days, weeks with no reboot or issues.
Once you find it the solution will seems simple... but when the issue is causing high battery drain the pressure is on. That's what took out my first battery, got less then 16 months on it before it failed (and I do mean failed!). You never want a warm idling phone as it is trouble; robs you of performance... and batteries
НIt's 27 degrees outside. The phone heats up to 36-42 degrees on LTE. Cleaned the device and set it up as new a week ago. June firmware, everything is updated

How big is the drain?
The Battery usage shows indeed ASI and Pixel Launcher for almost whole time span (~6h), but the battery drain is respectively 2% and 1%, were 20 minutes of Opera Browser used 19%, so it looks minimal. My phone does not get warm in idle or even in light usage, while the ambient temperature is ~25-26 celsius.

From what it seems this doesn't seem to be affecting everyone, a friend of mine also owns a pixel 7 pro and he told me he doesn't have these problems. On average Pixel Launcher would use about 40% Battery and my phone wouldn't last longer than 6 hours even with barely any usage. I am running stock newest June update and have not rooted this device so I can't for sure say what the cause is other than ASI
