Add wifi calling, no root - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I would like to enable wifi calling on my phone without root.
I feel I am in a favorable situation, but this is far beyond my league:
I know someone with a samsung s6 of the same model, with the same operator and with wifi calling enabled.
So I was wondering if I could "flash" the rom from this mobile and install it on mine.
- is this feasible?
- how should I do that?
- can I get a unrooted phone in the end?
Many thanks for your advice!

I think so, mine was a btu international and I've managed to flash h3g uk to get wifi calling. But still i don't think you can do it without tripping knox qnd the reason is that you need to backup your efs partition. If you don't you could end up with a bricked device i bricked mine trying to downgrade it to 5.1.1 the downloads for the fw where so slow that i didn't wait for the 7.0 to finish just flashed it with 5.1.1 to see what happens and from what i remember just flashing the same fw but from another region doesn't work, somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Resurrected mine that was stuck in download mode by flashing 7.0 h3g with repiting ( the download finally finished) was stuck in a bootloop, flashed twrp restored the efs backup, did a format and repair partitions in twrp, flashed the 7 0 h3g again without the repit and nand erase all, flashed twrp again wiped userdata and did a repair for some reason userdata was getting corrupted after a flash, wiped userdata again let it boot, took like 20 mins to boot, touchscreen was inverted, fixed it with *#2663#, made a factory reset and after that flashed h3g 7.0 again without any options selected and after that smooth sailing. Did an update to February update thru smartswitch. Phone runs perfect never gets hot etc but every time i go in twrp and reboot the touchscreen gets screwed again and i have to do the 2663 trick. Hope it helps.

Hi,
Will it work if I put a stock version for S6 SM-G920W8 on a S6 SM-G920R4 using Odin?
Many thanks.

I don't know i have a g920f

[Q] Possible to change region completely in SM-G920i?

First of all, sorry if this has been answered here, I simply can't find a definitive answer for our S6, let me explain better.
As you may know, I'm not a newbie here or in other forums, I've rooted most of my phones (Not this one) and have installed custom roms dozens of times to all of them, BUT, I'm definitely a newbie about what I need here, I'm trying to see if I can change my SM-G920i region from XSA (Australia) to any other one, India in this case. I have read tons of threads and posts and that's what is confusing me, in some threads there are people saying that they did it and is working great, in that same threads there are people saying that they did it but Knox got tripped, there are others that say that the device is soft bricked and others are saying that they have read somewhere that changing the CSC from it's original one may brake future Samsung pay.
So, this phone is paid by my office, they allow me to do what I want to it while I'm able to just put it back as it came from factory, so that means that I can root it if it doesn't trip Knox, that I can install anything while I can simply go back anytime they need me to, and obviously, Samsung pay works when it finally comes. With this in mind, can somebody answer me a couple of questions?
1-) I know it's possible to do it, but is it true that by doing this I'll have Samsung pay issues? I doubt that knox will be tripped if I do it with odin, but besides knox, is there any possibility that Samsung Pay will not work in certain regions (India in this case) and that's why some are saying that it will break it?
2-) If I download the firmware and flash it via Odin, I'm reading that it won't brick the phone is done via Odin, but in worst case scenario I assume that I can always go back to original one and it gets factory reset, am I right?
3-) If I flash it correctly as I expect an it doesn't brick, does this means that it will change PDA and CSC versions all together, that it will basically become a device from the new flashed region? So if I flash the India one to my XSA (Australia) now it will work completely as an India device and should get future OTA like the rest?
Again, sorry if this has been asked and answered but going back a lot of pages here can't give me definitive answer, thanks in advance for those of you kind enough to answer to this.

Thanks.
In another thread that I have posted (Brazilian one) I was replied to, so because of that I decided to do it, so far everything is working great as expected. Mine was an Australian baseband (XSA), only thing you I noticed is that when I connect it to Smart Switch app for PC or MAC it will still detects the Original CSC, I was curious about it and installed Phone info apk and it shows correctly the information, both PDA and CSC are now from India but it shows that the Original CSC was XSA (In my case), Firmware's CSC code is INU (India) and Active CSC code it says XSA/INU, so I'm assuming that it's showing multiple CSC.
Does somebody know if having the Active CSC showing XSA/INU causes future OTA issues?
After flashing a ROM its good practice to go to recovery mode and do a full wipe of cache and full reset to change CSC to the default of the ROM you flashed.

Well, in that case I think I will pass for now, as I did a Full wipe cache and Full reset before the Flash but just did a Wipe cache after I flashed it.
The issue is that I basically just finish setting everything back as it was before (about 3 hours and I still haven't set my Contacts Ringtones and Accounts links) so begin again it's a PITA. Once I finish this I'll do a full nandroid backup to have everything as I want, but if I do the Wipe Data/Full Reset and then restore from the Full backup, does this put everything as it was including CSC again? I've been always confused about how deep this restore goes in the system files. Do you know about it?
Thanks.
Try restoring from your backup after the full wipe from recovery. If everything works then you should be ok. Otherwise start from scratch and reinstall everything one by one.
Will try that later today, thanks.
Goodluck.

I tried that and nothing, still the same, then I decided to remove the Re-activation Lock in Find My Mobile settings, and after that and enter to recovery mode, it changed the CSC to India, so for those of you with same issues, remember about Re-activation lock.
Thanks for your help.
Did you have a SIM card inserted when you flashed your ROM with removed reactivation lock?
I had the SIM card on the phone today all the time as I forgot to bring with me the SIM removal tool and didn't have anything to open the Sim card tray, but last night I didn't have the Sim card installed when I flashed the ROM.
So today after I did the Wipe cache Partition and Data and saw that it still had the same issue, I flashed a UK ROM into a SM-G925f that had some African country ROM (have never heard of it before in my life but for the name it sounded like an African country), anyways I did that and everything went great, so that's when I thought what was different between the devices and then I remember that I had turned on the Reactivation lock in my S6 and not in the S6 Edge, so I turned it off, then went to Recovery mode and for my surprise the CSC was already changed without any other reset or anything.

can you post a screen of CSC page of Phone ** info ** just for reference?
I see you said that CSC changed to India, but Active CSC or also Original CSC?
What I mean is that, now I have a S6 which has Original, Active CSC as MRU...I'd like to put a European fw on it since I'm based in Europe (got this Middle East / Africa phone just because Dual sim it's not available in europe) but I'm in doubt if putting an european fw will still show that CSC has changed from original one and maybe OTA updates won't work.
thanks
Changing csc!!!
I succesfully installed a G920I indian INU rom in my device which had a XSA rom but when i go to recovery it still shows as XSA ....How do i change that to INU?
Hi i am using a galaxy s6edge+ and i am really struggling with the region lock. I have tried a few options of the factory full reset changing the Apn's to the ones needed and using different sim cards.when it used to go into emergency mode "h+" now it won't connect to any internet at all. Can i possibly have any basic assistance with the rom and resetting options to change the csc when i do a hard reset the csc says it's 'multi'. what does that mean? Any region unlocking help would be appreciated so much!
Thanks guys

now the sim card works in other phones and when I remove it the device registers it is SIM CARD REMOVED but when I put it back in nothing happpens, and mobile networks settings is gone
*I started in stock 5.1.1 (MADE NANDROID BACKUP OF EVERYTHING INCLUDING EFS) and flashed twrp via odin > (everything still working)
*flashed XtreStoLite 2.4 (5.1.1) via twrp > (everything still working)
after several months
*flashed new 6.0.1 bootloader and modem via odin and tried to flash XtreStoLite 3.0 (6.0.1) via twrp > got stuck in bootloop...
*used smart switch to go back to stock 6.0.1> Everthing was OK until about a month later the phone suddenly restarted and doesn't recognize the sim card
* I tried factory reset
* I tried samsung but they gave it back saying I've tripped my knox flag
*I flashed 6.0.1 XtreStoLite bootloader, modem and TWRP again via odin
*I flashed XteStoLite 3.3.1 (6.0.1)
*I tried restoring from the first nandroid (stock 5.1.1 from the begining) and got stuck in bootloop again.

I saw some threads talking about octoplus box but I still have my efs Backed up my and SN and IMEI still show up.
Please help me I am here I am willing to learn and search online. I've tried everything i've found online.
Hi.
Try to use Smart Switch > Software Update and Initialization to recover your firmware, hopefully you get your network back.
Tell me what happens, gl.
Sent from my SM-G920F using XDA-Developers mobile app
almost same thing on a long thread here, no solution so far:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/g920f-network-issues-t3291903
I am seriously considering it could be sim reader issue, or some cold solder somwhere on mbo.
My IMEI was also showing in settigs, but when dialed *#0011#, in stack 1, there was "IMEI NG", after write cert operation via octoplus, it says IMEI OK now, but NO SIM, and no mobile networks menu still.
Same like you SIM is detected when inserted or removed, and phone offers restart to access mobile networks, but after restart nothing changes, KNOX tripped by previous owner, phone was in three 3rd party repair shops, where they made even bigger mess than it was, when I brought it to them.
i had the same issue when i upgraded to mm so i sent to shop they had to downgrade it to 5.1.1 and use octobox to fix it
Thanks for replying Legend.
But even though I did the software Initialization in smart switch once before it is not working for me now.
I've tried twenty time while reinstalling and restarting the pc I even tried a different pc I get the same error message every time. "failed to run firmware upgrade unknown error occurred".
any other thing to try?
you could try to restore that backup you have, from when everything worked and then flash 5.1.1. bootloader and modem for that csc via odin before rebooting
According to Smart Switch with your sn it is ILO so you need 5.1.1 bootloader and modem from ILO 4 file fw package.
*I just managed to flash stock 6.0.1 via odin (even though It failed at hidden.img... it boots normally) still no sim card tough.
*I realized that maybe all of this happened because when I flashed stock via smart switch for the first time I didn't have my original s/n so I put one from the internet and it wasn't my region.
meaning I flashed stock of UK and it still worked for a month or so, so that's weird...
*Thank you brenner that is a good idea and I will try now
question how do I extract the bootloader and modem out of the fw? I just open the tar archive and take the boot.img and modem.bin files and flash them as is?
nvm found a guide

There are .tar-s which are single file, and 4 files, the ones with 4 files has separate bl/modem
btw, isnt sn written on back of the phone, along with IMEI?
OK, I've flashed the nandroid stock 5.1.1 (LMY47X.G920FXXU3COJ1) and its bootloader and modem from sammobile.. still doesn't work!!
How can this be? everthing is EXACTLY the way it was when it was working!
and no, my model at least doesn't have the S/N and IMEI written at the back, and I didn't keep the box
any other suggestion anyone?
*also there are so many post in subject if I ever find a solution I will make a guide.
-bump-
still no solution..
I've flashed back to current stock ILO...
Meanwhile looking for a lab with octoplus box, still would love solving this at home
At home or not, I would like to solve it too
Bought a second hand S6 the other day and was working perfectly fine until I carried out the update. Now on 6.0.1 and am getting the exact same problem, my SIM works in every other phone. Has anyone found a solution for this?
Not that I know of, except hw replacement, which cost as a used phone with 1+ years of warranty (6 months warranty on motherboard after replacement, on motherboard only)
But I am willing to donate to whoever finds a solution for it.
No i think your problem is a S/W problem, i have 2 G920F with this problem, one of them is 3 binary and another is 4 binary FW, now i work on it if i can solve this problem i told you here.

G920F firmware issues

So, I bought a refurbished unlocked S6 the other day (SM-G920F). I didn't note down the original region on the original TouchWiz, but I do know that it was on 5.1.1. At this point the phone was completely normal. I went to install twrp, which went ok, but after installing twrp, the phone would no longer boot, even though I made no modifications to the stock rom. I then decided to format and install a newer TouchWiz room, which required I also install a "kernel". After installing the kernel, all x axis inputs were inverted and the phone still would not boot. I then decided just to download a France region stock rom for the G920F and flashed it via twrp, which was successful. But for some reason the x axis is still inverted and my imei is completely incorrect. I have tried to use the dialer code, but it does not work because of no network connection. I cannot connect to a cellular network because Android has the wrong imei number. I have also tried to use both kies and smart switch but my device will not show up. I also tried an older version of smart switch for the initialization feature, but it says that the g920f firmware is not supported. If anyone can help me try to at least get my s6 back to stock rom without these issues I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

[HELP] SM-G930F stuck in boot loop after flashing wrong stock firmware

A while ago, I installed TWRP and then flashed Pixel Experience (herolte) onto my SM-G930F, but experienced some problems with it, namely random freezes and temporary boot loops, and decided to revert back to stock firmware.
I accidentally flashed SM-G930FD firmware instead of SM-G930F firmware, and now I am unable to re-flash and get out of a boot loop. I can boot into download mode and ODIN recognizes it, but whenever I boot into recovery mode, it will crash within the first 5 minutes (sometimes instantly, other times I can use it for at most 5 minutes before it crashes and reboots).
When trying to flash the correct firmware, I get revision check errors, with the device number being one above the binary number.
Is there any way to fix this, or should I give up? Can provide more information as necessary.
Edit: I believe the problem may be that I flashed an Android 9.0.0 firmware, and stock firmwares for the device are at latest 8.0.0. I am also unable to re-flash Pixel Experience, though, as TWRP crashes mid-flash every time.

Hi, thank you for the reply.
The region of the phone was BRI/TGY (for some reason it was able to be either?) After searching, I couldn't find any SM-G930F firmware for these regions, which leads me to believe that despite the model being shown as SM-G930F in download mode, it might've actually been an SM-G930FD?
The FD firmware I flashed was G930FXXS4ESC7 (TGY).
I believe the device came with FD firmware? My memory may be tricking me but I believe when I checked with Phone Info SAM, the model showed up as SM-G930FD, with the firmware G930FXXS4ESC7 (but may be misremembering).
I can definitely enter download mode with an 100% success rate, and crashes do not occur while in download mode.

Hi there, the firmware you have flashed is the latest version for Hong Kong and Taiwan so it is correct if your device is G930FD.
G930FD is dual SIM right? G930F is single SIM. However G930FD WILL work on a G930F device but G930F WILL NOT work on a G930FD
G930F = Europe and Canada
G930FD = Far East and Asia
On Sammobile website there is an earlier version of your firmware G930FXXS4ESB5, try this one instead and you can only use firmware which is "S4" G930FXXS4ESB5
Try flash it again

Thanks for the reply! I'll try it again using that firmware.
Also, I checked the SIM slot, and it says SIM1 and SD/SIM2, so I think it's a SM-G930FD. Weird that it says SM-G930F in download mode, is that based on firmware?

Okay, I tried flashing G930FXXS4ESB5, and ended up with the same error, being that the device version is higher than the binary version. (5 vs 4 for bootloader)
At this point I don't think the error has anything to do with the fact that I flashed different firmware, but rather that the version of the bootloader, kernel, etc. are patched higher than the firmware, but there is no Android 9.0.0 firmware that I can flash.

Ok when no command comes up reboot to system recovery and choose wipe/ factory reset and reboot.
No command means the firmware has worked just needs a final factory reset

That's where the unfortunate final problem comes in, in that the recovery menu will freeze within about 10 seconds of reaching recovery mode, sometimes even before getting past "#MANUAL MODE 1.0.0#" and rebooting automatically. The time seems to be almost random, but I've never been able to perform a factory reset. The furthest I get is formatting /data, even leaving that overnight, it was definitely frozen.
Edit: I managed to perform both a factory reset and cache partition wipe, but still get "No Command" when booting the phone.
Edit 2: Nevermind, apparently factory reset and cache partition wipe worked! I can now boot successfully and the phone works. Although I still have the problem with random freezing and reboots, it's better than a bricked phone. Thank you!

Flashed U firmware to a U1 but no Carrier apps

I have a sm-g715u1 with latest android 11 firmware and flashed the verizon G715USQU7BUC1. Both are latest ota firmware.
Odin (3.141) showed a succesful flash with all 5 bl,ap, cp,csc and userdata put in. The csc file was non home. However, I dont see any verizon apps installed. There were changes and it does show the U version software installed but no verizon apps. I saw no errors in odin and flashed it twice but no change. I did a factory reset from phone app before flashing a second time.
Not sure what i did wrong . I left the SD card in but dont think that matters.
It has verizon splash screen on startup but thats it. The phone is functional but no different than U1
Is this version (3.14.1) of Odin ok for U1 to U flashing?
Should i have factory reset before flashing? Flash from recovery and not the phone software?
Any ideas will be appreciated.

I see that i can no longer access special menus via the dial pad like I did before the flash. Its like a partial install of the userdata file or something.
So things i noticed after the vzw flash: I didnt get the full verizon bloatware and lost some of the samsung unbranded advantages. I have the vzw 4G icon and Hd voice icon during calls and had the video call option. Video calling didnt work and had to call vzw tec support to get it turned on. A ticket was opened to have it done and its now working fine. Before the flash i was told it couldnt be done so flashing to vzw must have helped here. One thing i have noticed is reception in fringe areas after flash in terrible by comparison. It now enters extended network or no signal at all where before it stayed on lte even with 1 bar and could text and call. This must be a PRL difference or something. The unlocked, unbranded version is way way better for fringe areas. In town i noticed no difference.
At this point i could try to enter recovery and wipe then direct to flash the vzw firmware again to see if i get all the bloatware but to be honest the poor signal and tower handoff with the vzw firmware has convinced me that the U1 firmware is better for me overall even if i lose the video calling after switching back.
At least with the U1 version its a little easier to experiment to see what works best.
