I'm glad I saw this... definitely don't want to install the update if it breaks this. What method did you use to enable the hotspot? I'm wondering if it makes a difference.

Same problem
Yeah I'm having this issue as well, I can't add APNs or edit them either by adding dun. It's very annoying and I've had to switch to my old phone to be able to have my hotspot back.

I found another workaround. screencap / copy the settings in one of the APN settings and tap the 3 dots in top right.
Create a new APN and use the same setting on prior APN, but add dun settings.
Select the new APN you created with dun and it will work.

Do you mind sharing the exact steps you are using? I am still hesitant to update to Oreo unless I know for sure I can hack the hotspot.
The initial method I used was copy/paste of some APN settings via terminal/ssh of ADB.
Thank you!

Yeah I found that out the hard way last week.
But follow these steps
https://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...uired-t3671061
It got me back up and going on Oreo. I just got a new notification about a new update. It says it's a security update....very hesitant to go through worth it.
It's SQU2CRC5
Let me know if someone has any luck with the new one. ??

Thanks dude. The link is not working though - getting a 404 error. Can you fix it?

I think you mean this link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/themes/mod-hotspot-bypass-root-msl-required-t3671061
This is what I used initially. As long as it works again after updating to Oreo, I will give it a shot. Thanks again!

It was in this thread
Hooking up to a computer and typing a gmfew commands into an adb shell. Confirmed working with first Oreo upadte push. Prior to that I just did the shorctut master to ltefunctionalitytest and edited the apn when ever it had been changed.

go to this link Use the (quick shortcut maker) app and follow the instruction
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s8/how-to/hotspot-workaround-oreo-updates-t3772311
This worked for me but only for 24 hours and that seems to be the case for a lot of people so if it happens to you here is the fix for that:
-disable Hotspot tether & mobile data
-now enable hotspot tether(wait until its fully turned on)
-now enable mobile data once hotspot tether is turned on

well has nobody tried this on the CRC5 update yet or has this been confirmed to work still... ??

Yes. Here is an image file from varoius forum posts to get this to work. You need to follow the steps twice, to edit each apn. Once you edit the first one successfully and go to edit the other, that on is grayed out.
Enjoy

How fix PRI. READ IF YOU HAVE FLASHED ANY DEV ROM

Ok so as most of the users on this website have learned, alot of people who have flashed DC2.0 are having PRI issues.
Following PRI's that are not effected by this problem are
1.70_003
1.68_003
2.10_003
This problem was first noticed on Damageless's DamageControl2.0. The reason it was noticed is because this is an official sprint rom that includes all the Sprint applications. As most people have noticed that a month or so ago people couldn't use sprint tv with alot of roms because of the "You must be a sprint user" error. The cause of this issue is believed to be the ERIS leak a few weeks back. If you have flashed ANY rom that was based off this leak you probably have a bad PRI.This includes but not confined to, ANY DAMAGE CONTROL ROM, ANY FLIPZ ROM AFTER 2.0b, AND ANY ROM THAT IS BASED ON ERIS This must fixed by retrieving you MSL and doing the instructions i will add to the end of this post. If you do not correct the PRI then when official leaks are released you will get many errors.
Now that i have explained all this please do not point fingers at anyone because this problem was completely unknown by anyone and everyone.
Here is how to fix the problem
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR RETRIEVING YOUR MSL THROUGH LEGAL MEANS WHICH MEANS CALLING SPRINT AND ASKING FOR IT.
After you have your MSL follow these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6006539&postcount=1405
and then you should have a correct Sprint PRI.
PLEASE DOWNLOAD FRESH 1.1 AND DO EVERYTHING STATED HERE IN THAT ROM. I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS ON 2.1 BUILDS
Let me emphasize that in doing testing with this problem RUU was NOT successful in returning the PRI. The only solution that has worked 100% is the ##786#, Enter your MSL, and re-provisioning your phone. Please try to find other solutions and discuss the outcomes in this thread.
Here are specific simple walkthrough. DO THIS IN A 1.5 ROM
1.Call Sprint and get your MSL. Keep calling and asking if it doesnt work the first time. Or go online and switch to another phone.
2. After you get the MSL go into a 1.5 ROM and bring up the dialer and press "##786# CALL"
3. It will initialize and the Reverse Logistics Support menu will come up with information.
4. After it has loaded press menu hardkey and then push reset.
5. Enter your MSL as password.
6. Your phone will reset and go into recovery. just push reboot system
7. Continue waiting an it will reboot again
8. After the last reboot all of your info including your PRI will be back to normal.
9. now update PRL and PROFILE to ensure success.
10. after all that you can nandroid any rom thats not eris based. I suggest darchlegend, Flipz 2.0, or DC2.0
IF YOU GO INTO OPTIONS AND SEE SPRINT AS YOUR CARRIER AND YOUR LOCKSCREEN HAS SPRINT THEN YOU HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE.
Special thanks goes to MrTip for finding the fix
Damageless for releasing the rom to find this problem.
Below for Developers________________________________________
After extensive testing i found the roms based on the Eris build will change the PRI. I am not 100% why but they do. It has to be something in the update-script to mess with the /radio partition. Anyone who can give further insight to this please PM me.

When I dial ##3424# and hit call I get a message that the number or code I dialed is invalid and to try again. Am I missing something
This worked great for me! I did the MSL reset right over the 2.0 Damage rom, however, when I rebooted it would not do the Handset update. I had to wipe and re-install the ROM. Everything working now.
Nice find guys, and Damage if you are watching this thread....nice work

mmm... im a little confused with the instructions provided on the linked post... can you plz clarify... i understand how to obtain my msl, but were do i go from there? the post just says to enter that one code and then the msl but i dont get any option to enter a msl #.
So far this is what i think im supposed to do,
do i need to (##enter code#)press menu -> reset, and then enter the msl as the password?
just want to be completetly clear before i go ahead and mess with it, thanks
I just Created this Software so even though you Dialer dont Support ## Code you can Trigger is via PC

Yeah instructions are unclear I get the same thing, but it wont even let me put in my MSL as a password its too long...
Well PRI is just a Number Showing Exact Programming Protocol
i think Sprint TV dont work Becuase of Improper RTSP Proxy IP and Port
use this Dialer code or use mobile5dm.exe and Trigger that Screen
##3282# - SPC - Advanced
RTSP (Real time Streaming Protocol) and See what u can see in
RTSP Proxy Port
RTSP Proxy Address
Is there a password? I'm confused I didn't need to use my MSL infact when I used the code to access it, it showed my MSL number in the list... I hit ok with out putting a password in and nothing. I tried using my MSL number as the password nothing. Is there some step I'm missing?

I tried the app but it says that "your device is not supported".
I may try later to reproduce the tutorial, but it is quite long and evolved and it may be very device specific. So I am not sure I can follow it successfully.
This is a major bug in my point of view. We should be loud about it so that Sony step in and try to fix it.
---------- Post added at 08:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:55 AM ----------
A suggestion:
If you want to check whether your device has this bug try "Wakelock Detector" from Play Store (its a free app). After installing the app go into settings and select "Advanced mode". If you device is affected it should show "Device (or something like this, my app is in Portuguese so I am tying to translate back into English)" in th top spots (in my case it is in the top by a large margin). Clicking in this entries to show the details you'll see that "Data dormancy" is the major reason.
Also note that your device should stay most of the time Awake instead of being in Deep Sleep mode.
Finally, this problem only affects devices if you operator network does not support data dormancy. This seems case of the Vivo network in Barzil, at least where I live. If your operator supports data dormancy it is then a good thing, as it helps to save battery.

There is a long tutorial there on how to manually modify the fast dormancy parameters. But you will need to unlock your bootloader first because you need to write to /system. Mine is not unlocked yet, I still creating courage to do it. I'll probably do it to better investigate this bug.

Yes, I meant something along those lines, I believe that that post is the origin of the idea described in the Samsung section.
By doing some more research I came across to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40606899&postcount=38 that suggest to use
ro.semc.enable.fast_dormancy=false
in build.prop. It is for Xperia T, but at least it is a Sony device.
Can you try as your bootloader is already unlocked?

Weird. It did work for me. I changed the configuration using Build Prop Editor , rebooted and it is working right now. No "Data Dormancy" wakes anymore. Try using this app. Note that it did work even in a locked bootloader (I haven't unlocked mine).
Obs: I tried before from the command line using setprop and it didn't work, so success may depend on how you try to edit the option.

Great you solved the issue.
It feels great to have the phone eating only 1.5-2% of the battery an hour after this change (from 6% before).

Xperia M2, 4.3 rooted.
I don't know if i missed something, installed build prop editor, make the changes and restarted.
The thread asks for busybox installed, i don't have busybox and i don't know if its important.
EDIT: After installed busybox, the above stayed on reboot ok.
Because fast dormancy wakelock apperared after ~12 hours after a reboot, i will wait some hours to check if it appeares again. Thank you.

Whereabouts on Hotspot/Native Wifi Tether Mod for Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6

I've been looking and looking and was just wondering if anyone has come across a hotspot mod or hack for the Spring S6 varient.

The guide in the Note 4 forum worked for me. First, I used the CF Auto Root method to root my phone. Next, I downloaded and installed the latest idoneapps' Galaxy Tools apk (GTv3.1.5.apk.) I first tried the simple method that worked on my GS5 - just click the "Enable Native Hotspot" button and reboot. Unfortunately, that seemed to break my 4G data - I think it has something to do with the APNs being locked. I went back to the GT application and (after reading through the instruction manual) changed the text in the sales_code box from SPR to XAS and hit the "set" button. I rebooted again and now my 4G was working. As a side benefit, APNs are now unlocked. Went back to the GT app and clicked the Enable Native Hotspot button and rebooted. Native hotspot is working fine for me on 3G and 4G. So, if you're having issues, check out that sales_code box.

Instructions for root - and all necessary files - are in the thread here, but there really isn't much to it - install the drivers, run Odin, select the md5 file, put phone in download mode, connect phone to computer, click Start, wait a few seconds for it to finish, disconnect phone from computer, reboot. Less than 5 minutes. The thread also has the link for the stock recovery that is installed the same way and is supposed to improve battery life. I didn't have a problem with battery, but I installed it anyways. You can read the thread for more information and detailed instructions.
For the hot spot, refer to the Galaxy Tools thread on the note forum here.
The sales_code box is the second box on the right. Just tap it as you would any text box you want to type in. The keyboard comes up, delete the text that is there (SPR) and enter XAS. Click the Set button next to it. Reboot. I'll attach a screen shot so you can see what the app looks like once the change has been made.

I posted a link to that in another thread here and have been using it since day one. Don't change any settings and just enable hotspot that's it. Have you done any updates? I haven't so I'm still on the original software which may be why but I didn't change any other settings which could be your problem.

My phone performed a software update within minutes of me first setting it up - it booted in to recovery and everything. I hadn't installed the root package or Galaxy Tools app yet, so can't say if the update is why I couldn't enable the hot spot with a single click. It would have been the easiest way to go, so I'd suggest that anyone give that method a try first. If it doesn't work, then just make sales_code change and try again.

This method ended up working out for me.
Im a sprint varient fully rooted with the 920t software, and having no issues with the deep sleep battery drain. But i thing i started to notice even with and without the sales_code change is that with some apps (i.e. snapchat). I cant send nor log in to unless i perfrom a info reset code (##72786#) but while doing this. It relocks the apns and disables the hotspot mod.
Any help with this is greatfully apreciated you guys. And also. Thanks again!!!
thanks again

Thanks this worked like a charm but with my last post above. I discovered a little bug.

Wish I had something useful to contribute, but I'm not having any issues - Snapchat is working fine. Attached is my current software version - as I mentioned, it did force an update the first time it booted up. Maybe pick an app you're having issues with, clear its cache, uninstall and then reinstall it to see if the problem persists.
sorry for the late reply
But i did get to figure it out. The problem was the "sales_code"
I just ad to leave it stock and just let the phone read everything correcrly.
Guys thanks again. Honestly
And also.... have any of ya had the screen rotation problrm???

I have that rotation issue. It's the damn adaptive charger. The wireless charger never has that issue. It was fixed in a later update supposedly but I had to get my original phone replaced.
anyone have link for GTv3.1.5.apk ?

I have a Sprint Galaxy S6 5.02 (G920PVPU1AOCF ) rooted with pingpong.
I used GTv3.1.5 then updated to 3.1.8, just enabled native hotspot and nothing else.
Working with no problem.
No root necessary...all you need is your MSL. Easiest way to obtain MSL is by calling Sprint. Once obtained, in the dialer enter ##3282#, hit edit, enter MSL, hit APN Settings. On APN2 EHRPD internet tap on the settings. On APN type it shows default, mms. Edit so that it shows default, mms, dun and then hit ok, up top hit More and hit save. Hit back and tap on APN2 LTE internet settings wheel and do the same...APN type should be default, mms, dun. On More hit save then reboot the phone.
That's it...turn on native hotspot and it should work!
Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the help on changing the Sales_code Text from SPR to XAS. It worked well for me after the reboot. I have I've spent almost 5 hours of my morning trying to find out my MSL with countless readers that didn't work. This method you describe did the trick. :good:
Doesn't work on my sprint s6. Sprint gave me the msl code but there is no APN option under the EDIT menu. I can only see APN under VIEW and it's greyed out, cannot be changed

Sprint SM-G900P Wont get signal from Metro PCS.... HELP PLease

Hope someone is up for a challenge.
Yesterday I went to Metro PCS to port my number and phone to them after using Sprint for 15 years.
They told me it was locked and I need to have it unlocked.
So I came home and found a guy on here to do it for me, Unlock.
I went back the lady registered the phone and sim and made a call to her store number and it rang.
I went outside and tried to call my wifes phone to make sure it would work and it tells me its connecting to Sprint network and I need to enter a credit card# to use it.
I went back today and they entered the APN info. and spent an hour with customer service and couldnt fix it.
They told me to wait 2 days and see if it would come on later in the week after they looked at their system.
HELP i need my phone.
what OS are you on? many stock OS's wont let an APN change stick, so itll revert back to trying to use sprint towers instead of the t-mobile stuff youre entering in the APN settings. Who did the unlock for you? If youre rooted, i suggest the marshmallow version of the resurrection remix ROM as it has all the APNs built in and all you have to do is select it. I use H2O wireless, and it had it listed in the APN choices.
did assadnow2k do the unlock? or stifilz?

oh, flash MOAR, then go into edit the APN settings. Stock ROMs arent too keen on letting APNs be changed and let them stay changed

so i just need to install MOAR 7.1 and change the settings in it?
ive even had it to where MOAR wouldnt allow me access to the area where you edit the APN, all you need to do in those instances is dirty flash (reinstall the ROM without wiping anything) and reboot, then itll again allow you access to that menu and youre off to the races again. Ive been down your exact road several times my friend

yep. youre far better off that way. The stock ROM isnt too friendly with APN changes. Ive been using GSM on my G900P for about 10 mos now via several different MVNOs (cell service resellers like straight talk, boost, cricket, etc ect) and the stock ROMs just arent the best for this. Also, the best unlocking service out there that ive ran into is http://www.idoneapps.com/ They just know exactly what theyre doing, and have the moderators that provider the backup for their product that can guarantee that itll work. They rock.

I have been trying to root to see if through it I will solve Alcatel 7 tether problem. I am not able to use tether via the native hotspot and USB tethering app. Each time I turn on the switch I get the error message "Settings has stopped," and then the window closes. Easy Tether does not work either, even though I get a "connection established" status the app, yet no message or icon of connection on Linux distro Mint 18.

U can try to use pdanet for USB tethring. However it is not guaranteed because the app setting does not allow "dun" as apn type anymore. However,I did successfully use the pdanet wifi direct method to connect my Chromebook. It was successful but be aware of the "run proxy" fucntion needs to be avtivated. You can access through help section for the app. However. u have to keep the screen on because it will be killed after screen off for couple minutes. I did exclude it from battery optimization but no luck. If it is screen on it should be alright. I don't have the apn dun problem with my stylo 4 though..... maybe because my Alcatel 7 is still locked and stylo 4 is already unlocked. Hope this info helps.:good:

I figured out a way to add dun in apn type. Just add it and do not press save, directly press home button and then go back to apn settings and check, it should be automatically saved when u pressed the home button. Hope this helps.

nvmd got it and working
If anyone wants to get it root it just follow the instruction that Warlockguitarman has but with a few modifications to the commands
first make sure to back up with python mtk rf flash.bin and save it somewhere else cause its like 30GB
then do
"python mtk rl" out to get the boot.bin
to unlock the boot loader use
"python mtk da seccfg unlock"
then just follow the magisk app part to patch the boot.bin and make sure u save when u get it to the PC side to save it as
boot.img to make it easier and use this command
"python mtk w boot boot.img"
and ur done, super easy but a little time consuming for the most part
make sure to back up, back up back up, dont be lazy with it just in case
been looking for way for a long time since i got the phone around 2018 and this is the only way it worked
