Can't believe how awesome a pair of Bluetooth earphones sound! Currently using a pair of beats x! All previous phones I've used LG G6, huawei mate 10 pro etc the Bluetooth sound volume has been awfully quiet!.
For the first time in a while i dont need to use the highest volume to get mediocre volume. The sound quality and volume via Bluetooth is superb on the s9 plus!?
Probably because it uses absolute volume like the pixel 2

Doubtful, since Absolute Volume was a feature in Nougat.

What’s absolute volume?
I can't decrease or increase media volume when connected to car Bluetooth. Is it a bug? Phone sends max volume I have to change volume from the Bluetooth speaker.

A feature that links your Bluetooth volume to your Android media volume. Previously you would have separate volume levels (ie Android volume at 100% but your Bluetooth headphones could be set to 40%).
With absolute volume if you set 10% volume on Android then your headphones Bluetooth level will also set itself to 10%. The feature doesn't always work well on some devices so you can disable this feature if you don't like it.
It's been a feature on Android for a while but it hasn't been enabled as far as I can tell. Absolute volume works on my Pixel 2 XL but it didn't on my U11+

I agree. I don't know what they did to their bluetooth this time around but it's the loudest I've heard so far. I had the LG V30, note8, pixel 2 Xl etc...

check your bluetooth settings, the three dots on the top right. See if the sync bluetooth volume off will help.

S9+ has so much better sound and higher volume on BT than Pixel 2 XL. Only when you root and install the V4A, Pixel 2 XL comes close to S9+.
I also think APTX-HD is built into this phone but not "enabled" for some reason. I will listen to Bluetooth to see how good it sounds when compared side by side with my Exynos S8+ with Viper4Android.

Tested on Snapdragon s9+ and yes the music over Bluetooth does sound "richer" and a tad bit louder. They definitely did something to the audio signature. It still doesn't beat Viper4Android on my S8+ but it would sound amazing if we can get Viper to install on the US Snapdragon variant....

Must depend on what bluetooth device you are using.
I have a Pixel 2 XL, S9+ Exynos, Xiaomi Mi A1 and Galaxy Note 8 in front of me.
My two Bluetooth headphones sound exactly the same on all of them using AptX codec.
Not sure why you and others are sounding different. Regardless of what device you are using, the amp in the headphones isn't changing and so the quality should be the same when using the same codec.
Either way it's a non issue since audio is being praised here.
I think this is the first I won't root my phone, Jaybird and Bose QC35 sounds awesome. I always root my phone after a 3 days or 1 week.

That is interesting, I will confirm my findings if I end up getting Exynos S9+ to see if it has anything to do with SoC(currently I am kind of unsure due to lack of a method to flash US CSCs on it and Samsung blocking call recording apps).
Works great over my not so premium Bluetooth headset.

I had before the Sony SBH-20, they were pure crap and bad quality (one of the buds broke after a year), the mic was low volume and the audio quality very bad but I used mostly to do voip calls, using the Sony's in the other end they ever had to make some effort to hear me because of the low volume of my voice, I think the mic is a normal Sony issue because I have another cable headset for using with my computer that has low mic volume too. (I will never buy again something from Sony that has a mic )
Now with this Skullcandy Buds (bluetooth version 4.0) I can say wow... is night and day compared with the Sony's, I use this headsets paired with a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and I use to do voip and normal call, to hear the internet radio and music when I'm on my bicycle, my experience today was great. Talking when I'm on the bicycle with some wind, my voice was really clear and loud on the other end (I did a test with Skype's Echo Test Service to check by myself), the noise cancelling worked great with the wind and mic sensitivity is fantastic.
I was a bit worried about the neck collar because I bought them online without testing them first, it is very comfortable and the buds with the neck collar are lightweight, is like not having anything on your neck, I was very surprised how comfortable they are and when using them riding my bicycle were great, they don't even move because they have a small rubber connector at the level of the curves of the cable, looking at the front they form an "X", so is impossible for them to slip away. Is the first day I have them but I feel them they will be comfortable for the day to day use when I'm working.
I'm not an audiophile but the audio quality is great, I really like them, they have good bass, middles and maybe not too much highs, great quality for hearing mp3 when you are running or in a bicycle.
They have 3 buttons that work perfectly with Android 5.1.1: Volume control, start/stop and if you long press some seconds the "+" button or "-" button you advance tracks or go previous tracks (I used the app Jetaudio) that works perfect on Android.
When I hear the music with my cellphone, I take my phone at the level of my waist, so there is some distance to my neck where the buds are
and the bluetooth signal was ever perfect, no glitches like I had with the crap Sony's.
About the battery in the description is say it last 6 hours, I have not had the opportunity to test this now because they are in the first charge and don't know how long does it take to full charge them, later I will update this information.
I don't know how this buds will last so later if I have any issue I will update this review, but the build quality looks very good.
I think till today they are by long the best bluetooth headset in the market.
They have noise cancellation ? How to turn it on? Tks
Use these right now, and I can totally vouch for this great pair of earphones. Although IDK if this is my phone or the earphones but it takes a lot of time for the device to be detected if not paired. Otherwise its perfect.
I have them as well and I like them a lot but I don't really care for the neckband too much I was looking into getting some beats powerbeats2 since they don't have anything like that.

Hi. Will it works with sony z series phone.? Did anyone tried..?

Hows is the bass ? Is this good for extream bass lovers.?
Skullcandy Smokin' Buds 2:
Great bass, decent mids, somewhat muddy highs.
For sub $50 these are a great purchase.
In order to use features like voice dialing, you must pair the headset with the phone, and then authorize the headset as a trusted device.
As a trusted device, the headset can make and accept calls, and wake the lock screen.
On the s6 try using the Bluetooth under settings, not the bluetooth under the dropdown menu. They never showed up on my s6 until i did this, it then found them and they seem to work well.
if you have problems with connecting to device, just dont forget that you have to hold the middle button on the skullcandy to enter pairing mode then the red and bue light going to repeatably flash then you can connect.
Mine is getting a purple LED light and won't give me the option to do the Bluetooth sink routine! Can anyone help?

Hi, I have the mate 9 pro and problem already stated in the title. The volume level is really low through BT headset. It's really annoying since I use at the gym and while running BT headset but can barely hear the music through all the ambient noise coming.
Didn't have same problem with OnePlus 3T or Nexus 6p. Now my Bose soundsport are basically useless.
And yes I tried to install any possible BT volume boost app from the store and they are no help.

Hi I seem to have a problem with sound when using wired headphones for music. When I increase the volume to the top of scale the sound changes slightly / volume and tone. The left speaker goes quieter at one point until I click up to the top level. I need to check whether this occurs on external volume and bluetooth headphones...
I'm actually sure I received a small electric shock from the right earphone a couple of days ago too - it wasn't static as I was sat at my desk and hadn't moved!
Is anyone else experiencing this or is it likely I have a duff example?
thanks
Anyone in the UK changed phones from Samsung directly in store?

Using a UK G955F and don't have the same issue. Are you just using the phone stock? No viper or atmos installed?
Edit: Don't suppose you have a spare set of headphones to rule out the phone or the AKG's being the cause?

Just checked with the older white samsung earphones and same issue. No Viper or ATMOS.
I've just reported to Samsung and they have set up a remote fault investigation tomorrow evening.
It feels like a hardware issue but even if it is can Samsung rep in CPW stores exchange samsung devices or will I at minimum need to go to an experience store (not one locally but do have a CPW!).

So I've tried my bluetooth headphones that work fine.
The phones speaker works fine.
It seems to be a problem using the plugged in earphones - not just the supplied ones either. The issue is def just at the top of the volume scale - turn it up to the top level and sound in right side decreases a little and tone changes.
Will update after this evenings call.
After speaking to Samsung they want to exchange it but their stocks are low already so exchange being done on Tuesday.

Guys i want to share u what i faced n how i solved the problem on s8+ akg earphone. My akg earphone in the left ear did not played with full bass only small treble was there while right was working fine. Then i played a song on vlc on my computer on 250% sound and blew a small hole present just below the main hole with my full capacity for 5 6 times... n bang!!! It was playing allright like n new one. I don't know it will work for others but i wanted to share this. Thanks
Hi
Right speaker becomes quieter than left one when volume increases greater than 88.
Is it a software problem.
I reset my phone twice.

Generically looking at the windows volume mixer graph, it looks about a 20% reduction in volume. I personally would really like some communication from Razer on this matter.
It's not going to stop me getting a 2nd razer phone, because they're freakin uber! But I'm concerned to hear if it was botched code, hardware issues with the speaker manufacturer, of if it's a temporary mask of the problem.
I have the 2nd phone you see there, and it's perfect.
Here's the sound comparison, pre vs post update, Atmos on, all 3 ehancements on, custom1, maxxed eq
https://youtu.be/oog8apxoC58
Not sure what to say about this. :|
Same here,I noticed a drop in overall volume post-update,but,I really don't mind too much.
I'm going to use the phone as I normally would & the fact that Razer is proceeding w/RMAs w/o hesitation for those here having issues gives me a measure of assurance they'll do right by us.
For my use,I'm good w/the post-update volume levels,but,w/the Dolby Atmos,I'm not getting a very rich sound (needs a bit more bass, any settings recommendations are welcome). The Dolby demo shows the potential,so,I suppose quality of content plays an equally large part of the experience.
I don't use the speakers a whole lot, but,it's nice to have the dual front-firing ones w/decent sound: together w/the display quality & overall performance, well worth the price of admission. :good:
I really hope it's temporary, the sound levels were great for working in the garage.
I'm noticing some erratic changes in volume using the 3.5mm adapter and headphones. The volume will go from normal to extremely loud when I skip tracks (I've used the stock player and a 3rd party music player). When it gets super loud and I exit to the homescreen it will normalize again. It makes no difference if I turn off Dolby Atmos, and the volume leveler within the Dolby app makes no difference either.
Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.

I haven't used the 3.5mm adapter or USB-C headphones yet (got the Razer Hammerhead USB-C set on order),but,I did notice a lot more consistent/cleaner sound through the external speakers when turning off Dolby Atmos & using another equalizer app (Bass Booster):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.desaxedstudios.bassbooster&hl=en
I think there's some work that needs to be done w/the Dolby Atmos,no matter how I tweaked the settings,or,used the presets, sound was unbalanced & sounded almost as if the speakers were blown.
Hard to describe, but, like a recording of someone else's blown speakers.
If you'd like,I can test this w/some earbuds, but, they're nothing note worthy, just some buds that came packaged w/Samsung Galaxy & Note phones from the past couple of years..................

I was able to duplicate your volume spiking issue, skipping back & forth & the tracks that were low volume now played back @ the louder volume.
Very weird, not an audio software engineer here, but, this sounds like (pardon the pun) something a software update will take care of.
On a somewhat related note:
While using the Dolby Atmos w/the wired earbuds, switching between the presets had little to no difference,if any effect at all, barely noticed a difference when I turned the app on & off.
The Dolby Atmos,at least in my usage, pales in comparison to the Bass Booster app,I'm guessing any decent equalizer app in the Play Store will have the same results.

Thanks so much for testing and posting your results. Glad it's not just me, but disappointed this will affect other users as well.
I also had similar issues switching between the Dolby presets in that they made little to no difference. I think the update broke Dolby and messed up the amplifiers. Hoping a stock factory image gets posted so I can revert back. In any case I opened a ticket with Razer. I'll let you know what they say. Thanks again!

THX for opening a ticket w/Razer: :good:
Often people post in places like this & while it's definitely good to get corroboration,it does nothing if the mfgs aren't made aware of the issues.
Definitely something amiss w/Dolby as-is on the unlocked model w/the update.
I didn't try much of anything out pre-update,so,I have no basis of comparison,at least w/the wired earbuds.guessing my results would mirror yours,as did w/the OP & the decreased volume levels w/the external speakers post-update.
I just opened mine, immediately got an update. So I didn't have anything to compare to except my Pixel 2 XL which sounds much better!!

:/
Just got the 2nd phone from amazon as I'm awaiting the return label for the first from razer. Though the first phone now, with severely limited volume compared to the RTM phone since it's post-update, is as loud as the new phone which happens to be the 813 pre-update build.
I will reset it here in a sec to see if that changes it, but it's much quieter than the gf's still. heh
*edit
I was going to restart the phone and check, then maybe reset.
After a restart, the phone is MUCHO louder, just like the gf's phone. Speakers are fine.
Soooooooooo
The only change? Other than setting the phone up, deny network to avoid update, and allowing google play to install the games and update everything else, I enabled dolby atmos, enabled 3 enhancements, chose custom1, turned up eq across the board, and then restarted.
So the restart enabled atmos? Sounds great though. 33% failure rate from my experience though. So I suspect the speaker failed or atmos blew em. Unless I'm completlely missing an aspect of signal processing when dealing with compact mobile audio designs.
I also received the update and tested against my pixel 2 XL. The Pixel sounds luck better than the Razer now. When I ran a test in the Dolby app the Razer sounded amazing again.

THX for opening a ticket w/Razer: :good:
Often people post in places like this & while it's definitely good to get corroboration,it does nothing if the mfgs aren't made aware of the issues.
Definitely something amiss w/Dolby as-is on the unlocked model w/the update.

Been going back and forth with support today. They predictably asked me to do a factory reset to begin with. I did that and my symptoms now are as follows:
The erratic loud volume issue still persists when skipping through music tracks. This time however, the volume normalizes when I lock the screen of the phone. Whereas before it would normalize when I just navigated to the homescreen.
I've also noticed that when the volume goes super loud, I can lower it with the volume rocker key (obviously), but it's still in a louder state overall. However if I go into the Sound menu and click on the 'Media Volume' slider (without adjusting it) it normalizes the volume as if I turned off the screen like before.
None of these symptoms are present without using the dongle, so I'm inclined to believe it's something to do with the 3.5mm adapter. I'm curious to see if a normal (non THX) adapter produces the same result.
They are escalating the case now...I'll post as things develop.
I'm assuming Razer lowered the volume and ringtones until they can figure out if their current settings are blowing speakers, or maybe they have bad batches of speakers. It really sounds like they ditched QC to get as many units out the door at launch, then they will RMA bad devices once they get their line sorted out. Just my thoughts anyway. Hopefully they have all this sorted in January.
I think it would have been awesome if they figured this stuff out before launch, but at the same time I'm still cool with having the phone sooner than later.
They need to work on their communication though to the end users.
Wonder if doing a system restore through the recovery will downgrade it back to the out of the box firmware?
Can anyone dump the /system? I wanna see if there is any room for tuning this device
Well, as soon as I saw this I'm now installing the update.
If you turn it up and listen carefully you can hear the Custom 1 default profile, all 3 enahancements off, max volume, the RTM build vs the update today, build details in vid description.
* Vid soon to come, Kanye took the original down :/

Mine also, I don't think we're allowed to listen to our music loud anymore!
Oppos reply to my email...
In regards to your inquiry about the low volume issue , we would like to clarify that we cannot guaranty the highest quality while connecting Samsung earphones to our Oppo devices because the two systems are not compatible, and that is why we make our own headphones and earphones and by using our products we can guaranty an amazing quality and performance sound system.
Shall there be anything else we can assist with, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

That is such a weird answer. I use Anker soundcore liberty neo plugs and they go extremely loud on the Oppo.

No I haven't does this help? Never heard of it myself but I can see the option I've just checked it's disabled
I have noticed the same, low volume compared to the position of the volume slider. It seems to go loud(er) only on the last 10/20% of the bar. Strange
If its samsung buds iv a fix because it happened to me, install the wear able app and set the right and left ear buds to volume, u have to actually turn up the ear buds throughnthe touch pads then use ur phone volume
Because by default the touch pads are set to ambient and google voice changento volume
Thank me later
Same issue here with Bluetooth Bose speaker. Extremely low volume compared to all other Android devices
The volume on my Oppo Enco W31's are amazing, I'd even go as far as to say too loud on full volume
This doesnt happen to me with my Airdpods Pro, they sound as loud as they sounded with my previous one plus 7 pro and samsung s20 plus
I just tested my Bluetooth headphones (Sony 1000X) and the volume is much lower compared to using my Samsung tab s6 in max volume.
Has anyone used the free headphones offered with the phones B&O H9? If so is it the same issue?

Did not make difference to mine.
Oppo response was that the Bluetooth is optimised for their own headphones only.
I told them that is not an acceptable answer, you have many headphones available in the market and that they do not even do The OPPO over the ear headphones with noise cancellation.
Thanks.
Yes, i took the offer with b&o Headphones. Sometimes they are quite loud and Sometimes not. Eventhough, using their App it is very Strange regarding volume. Dont know why. With wired in ear No Problems.

I tried this option again but this time I restarted the phone and behold it is much louder now.
Thanks.
Hey! I noticed that if you install the B&O app from the playstore. Install it and then run it, it will detect the headphones. Theres a volume option within the app, to increase the overall volume. It increases mine considerably h9. Hope this helps

I have the Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds and I must say I have had no problems with the global X2 pro version or the Chinese one,
Happy days?
