problem after using screen protection!? READ THIS !!! - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Guides, News, & Discussion

hey guyz
it sounds silly to have a such problem for this flagship but for me as a new samsung user, I faced this problem after using a protection glass for this curved screen. the problem was after using this protection, touch response became too weak! that seriously made me regret about buying this crap!asked some owners about this problem and they said this problem is for curved screen and you have to used to it or buy expensive glass. searched accessories section in this forum and most of people discussed about proper screen protection. well just found 1 interesting post that someone mentioned this path
"setting---> advance feature ---> touch sensitivity " just enable it.
well problem solved. it sound so stupid but you better know this if you are new like me!

You've got to be f**king kidding me? I had the same problem as well before so I took it off and chucked it in the bin... Asked the seller for refund...

There is not a tempered glass screen protector that can out perform this one. It's high, but it is absolutely the best TGSP ever made for a curved phone. It even feels better that the stock glass. Absolutely amazing. had it on my s7 edge, s8+ and now my s9+. If you're spending money on any other TGSP, might as well just throw your money in the garbage. I dont work for them and i get noting free from them. I do own a computer/phone repair shop and have used every name brand, and most non named brand TGSP made. This works with 95% of cases, wont lift, Its a bit more involved installing, but it;s amazing.

[Review] DevDef HTC Desire HD Full Body Protection (with pics)

I got my Desire HD just yesterday and before I make the big switch from my trusty G1 and wanted to install this protection that I have had for a good few weeks now.
The full body protector set I got consisted of one for the screen, a main back part, sim card slot and battery slot. It came with a spare set too.
To be honest, I'll cut to the chase. The installation was like any other full body installation in that you've got to keep your hands wet with the sopy solution (I had a spray bottle left over from a Bodyguardz set I had for my HD2 I once had). You must ensure you peel the parts off carefully making sure you don't stretch them. Bearing this in mind and being experienced in fitting this type of protection, I found the 'cut' of it to be poor.
The protection isn't "full" in my opinion. It doesn't stretch round the edges and corners therefore the most vulnerable areas to scratches and knocks is not protected. But worst of all, the deal breaker for me, was the battery cover area. I first realised that the main back part wasn't going to fit correctly when trying to put it on. The design of the protection have wrongly measured the battery cover slot and they believe it to be smaller than it is. This means that I had to cut a little bit away from the main back part. Consequently, the little piece of protector that goes on to the battery cover was too short and again means it does not provide "full" protection. The screen protection, I would of hoped, could of covered the whole thing right up to the earpiece grill but it just covers the screen.
Whether or not the screen will be less responsive, it tints yellow after time or shows any other aspect of poor build quality, time shall tell and I will edit this review accordingly.
So it is in my opinion to wait for another brand to release, InvisbleShield is in my sights as soon as its available.
Any questions, Ill be more than happy to answer
Thanks for the review but it'd me much better If you could share the front screen as well.
BTW you can purchase bestskinsever (BSE) DIY size and cut out any shaped as you need. Especially for that battery cover, you can solve yhe problem with BSE

Hi there, sorry yeah I'll upload a pic of the screen tonight. Kinda rushed the review earlier today just before work!
Thanks for the tip about Bestskinever though I think Im going to wait for Invisibleshield or hope that Bodyguardz produce one soon. I really like that for my old HD2
I bought mine, arrived today, it was awful, do not buy, it's stupid. I scrunched it up, do you want a picture of that? £10 down the drain.........oh well, it happens. =D
Zagg Invisible shield
I believe the Zagg invisible shield is already available. when you go to the Zagg web site, just search for HTC desire HD, and it should bring you to the site. I just ordered Maximum protection for AUS $18 (including shipping), but that's after 50% voucher. You can look for it here, and maybe post a request (im sure someone will be nice enough to share.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664386
I do believe the Zagg quality is better (including the cut).
Ive contacted ZAGG about suppliers in Europe and this is what they answered me
Thank you for contacting ZAGG, where we are zealous about great gadgets! My name is Dez G and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
We ship to most places all over the world, I see no reason why we would have a problem shipping to your area. You can find a list of local re-sellers in your area via the following link. My best suggestion is to contact these re-sellers for prices. Please note that we can not offer refunds on ZAGG purchases made outside of our website but if you need any of your items replaced under the lifetime, or 1 year replacement warranty we would be happy to assist you.

Edit: Ive just emailed them asking how much protection their best product offers. Heres hoping thatit covers the phone entirely, edges included!

If they make it like their iPhone 4 full body protection - don't bother . The size is wrong by 1-2mm, the cuts for the speaker, button, etc, also don't match the actual size (see the attached picture). I installed just the front and back protectors on my wife's iPhone, because seeing how wrong they are on the plain flat surface, I don't want to know what they did with the curvy edges... I ordered some original HTC protectors for my DHD because IMO they are the perfect cut and with some luck I'll manage to install one of them without any bubles (it's not impossible - I did it on the Touch HD).

Why cant you just ordered directly from their official sites? dont need to go through their resellers. Dont think it's much cheaper to get from their local resellers. Considering you can also get discount vouchers from nice people in this forum. Shipping is not expensive (only cost me $5).
Stupid me! I bought 2 pairs before you! I got my phone about two weeks now, so I decided to have some temporary protection until something better comes out.
And after installing the first one I really felt like I was fooled its so ugly and it doesnt fit well so I decided to sent the 2nd one back the morning after... but too late my mom had already throwed the 2nd one in the recycling bin...
Now Im searching for a cheap but good quality silicone case and a cheap look a like the default HTC leather case, cause I think Ive spent enough on screen protectors!
btw my phone has still the devdef protection on it and I have to admit, it has 2 pros
* No sign of condense
* Stretchy protector
but its 100% NOT scratch proof

I hate silicone cover more than anything, but try this mate, only £2.95, but I promise that this is the best protection out for the Desire HD so far, await the case-mate barely there if you want a metal, as I am doing, I got conned by this stupid DevDef protection!

Experiences with the non-gorilla glass screen?

Hi Guys
I ordered this phone yesterday and now I'm actually just waiting to receive it.
I think the phone seems awesome at its price, although I was close at buying a brand new replacement LG O2x for only 66% of the price of Galaxy R.
I'm still a little in doubt if I will keep the phone or not, mainly due to the fear of a screen which is easily scratched. Most other phones out there uses Corning Gorilla Glass, but Galaxy R only uses "scratch-resistant" glass.
Also the new announcements at Mobile World Conference have my interest, e.g. to have a smaller-in-the-pocket phone with similar or better resolution.
What are you experiences so far? Have you made minor surface scratches or is the screen actually quite sturdy?
I would prefer not to use a screen protector.
Best regards, Martin / mhca
The screen glass is pretty sturdy and is actually scratch resistant.
But it would be recommended for heavy users that applying a scratch guard would be better and you can have a peace of mind as you would have to care less about scratches.
About better handsets available in the future only time will tell. But one thing wont change, that is Nvidia's huge efforts to bring game developers to support Tegra devices which will have very few parallels in the Android handsets market.
Till then tuned !
yep SGR has less sturdy scratch resistant glass.. I would prefers gorilla glass.. but sometime it is overrated too lol!...
so my phone already got a tiny scratch after 4th day bought it.. hehe..
I put it inside my pocket together with few coins...

Exactly what I'm worried about. I would never keep the phone in my pocket together with coins.
However, sometimes I toss it somewhere lying together with other stuff, e.g. when passing through airport security.
I'll make up my mind soon.
I'm still very interested to hear more comments from users with experiences.
I used my phone without screen protector for one week after I had bought it. I must mention that I was kinda a cautious and never put coins, keys and mobile to the same pocket. I haven't had any single scratch.
I use a silicon case and plus a hard plastic pouch case when I'm carrying it on my pocket. Not even a single scratch

yeah that was silly of me.. putting the phone in the pocket with coins.. I was rushing with my hand fulls with stuffs..
but the wierd thing was.. I had my HTC Legend once..(Gorilla glass and no Screen Protector) and my Legend did not have any scratches at all for few months..
my bro also using his Galaxy S for a year without any scratches. He does put his phone anywhere though..
still.. Gorilla Glass "a bit" better than normal scratch resistant glass..

I think it would be a bad decision to choose the LG 2X.
About the screen of SGR... I don't have any scratches yet and don't read in other forums that people complain of this issue.
You can find lots of people with Gorilla Glass phones who have scratches and break completely in a normal drop from the hands.
I would buy the SGR definetely.
I'm a user of sgr for about a month now.I use silicon case at home and stock leather case when going out for showing of the beauty of sgr.

And...? Have you got any scratches or not?
Me and my wife using it heavily but carry it inside the original pouch or my wife in S2 pouch which completely protects the phone when kept inside a women's purse!
I hate using screen protector and not even using a case, still the phone is entirely scratch-less all around (not just the screen). If you are reasonably careful, I am sure it can last like my S1 or S2 which are scratch-less forever.
the screen is very good with scratch
i dropped it from waist height on the concrete and nothing happend to the screen - i use screen protector though.
i'm starting to doubt they tricked us - that R actually has a gorilla glass
Samsung has already tricked for UTG feature...
Also there can be hidden NFC, MHL output...and now gorrilla....
i cant digest it...!!

But wait, how come ur getting a Galaxy R now?? I was under the impression that SGR was permanently discontinued! U better check the phone and its contents carefully before using it dude.
I use a capdase soft case and a gloss screen protector - no scratches till now. Although I must say my left pocket is reserved for my phone only and nothing else - no coins especially!

Uh, dude the OP is from February.
I have CGG on my moto xt720 and i have had few scratches when kept in pocket with keybunch and coins..!! That was after 1-2 months. Then i realised i should always put a screen guard (not the privacy guard which interferes the touch sensitivity) on any smartphone whatsoever..!
Now, on the day i bought my SGR, i put a screen guard and with a fake capdase back cover, its super safe and no visible scratches .. even after 5 months..

I use a screen protector since the first day, and when the protector is scratched, I only have to replace this, another thing is that with time, screen protector makes work bad the screen, it turns crazy. Then, I must replace the protector.

slippery grip -> cracked screen

Pretty sure most of you can tell where I am heading with this thread based on the title. I personally find the One S has a rather thin and slippery grip on the side, and I am wondering if the fellow One S owners share similar sentiments.
I had the phone for about 2.5 weeks or so, and was totally loving it, except the fact that I always had a hard time getting a good grip with the phone in my hand. One day, I accidentally dropped the phone, from maybe not more than 3ft high. And unfortunately the screen completely cracked. I was extremely upset, partially at myself for not using a screen protector, but more so at HTC.
Phone is not covered by T-mobile's warranty (no insurance), HTC could not even give me a quote for repair due to the phone was just released. So now I have arguably the latest and best android phone in the market collecting dust at home.
Sorry to hear, dude - was this the grey version?
I don't think a screen protector would have helped you as they're more to protect from scratches, not impact.
Did you buy it with a credit card? If so, you may have insurance without even knowing it.
Dude thats so bad
I new i would break my phone if i didnt get a case... after a few minutes it was slipping out of my hand...
The design is awesome, but they should have implemented so rubber grips down the sides or something..
Anyway, if you do get it fixed...... GET A CASE !! its the best thing i ever bought
Check the House Insurance (if you have it) you may be covered....mine is!
Edit:
Ebay are selling the screens
I know Discover cards have a insurance clause on some of their stuff so you should check that out like the other guy said . . but yea it's slipped out of my hands onto my jeans countless times because of the lack of grip lol .. that's why i bought a case first thing ..and as for screen protectors i've cracked 3 phones with them on (one with a case on as well) so they don't really help from drops and places should tell you that when you buy it too
Can u post a pic of the damage

I dropped my iphone4 a countless of times on concrete and the glass never shattered. I dropped my 1S a couple of times already on ceramic tiles and still nothing except that MAO paint problem.
I think cases are butt ugly and a waste of money. I wouldn't even go for the 1S if I was going to use a case. Seriously put a 1S in a case and what does it have over the SGS3 or the 1X?
Anyway just my opinion
i actually dont believe in phone case either becuz i think they make the phone look ugly and bulky, thus ive never bought phone cases.
however, due to this phone being so thin and slippery, I felt like a grippy phone case is a must have. after surfing around the web for a little while, i found diztronic matte back phone case. Just got the case today and i love it!
high quality case, its made of TPU so it has a good amount of grip. All the holes are cut out perfectly (it doesnt cover any speaker/mic/sensor opening). The case is also thin so it doesnt make my phone bulky (sure it makes ur phone look a little thicker, but it's not a bad compromise at all). And last but not least, i really dig the look of the case, very well designed in my opinion. It also come with a screen protector in case anyone needs one.
And this is exactly why I'm putting a case on my phone for the first time ever. Sorry to hear about your phone mate.
Sent from the future using the Tardis
I've checked online and seen it listed but can I just verify that this phone has Gorilla Glass 1/2? Obviously, that doesn't make it crack proof but I work construction and end up putting my phones through their paces and found that my Milestone (Gorilla Glass) held up a fair bit better than my Desire Z (no Gorilla Glass).
And yes, in my situation a case (And insurance) is a necessity on a three year contract.
I've had the phone for all of 5 days. it fell from my hand as I put something down on a rock, litterally no drop whatsoever, but it slid a whopping 6 inches down the rock on it's face and the screen cracked and scratched. if it is supposed to have gorilla glass, I was gypped. I have no renters insurance and didn't buy it with a credit card, but I do have a plan.
-get the insurance from t-mobile, as I'm withing the 14 days
-enjoy not caring about the phone for the next 6 months
-pay the 130 for a replacement through asurion
-sell new phone for 400+ (if the release of the S3 doesn't drop the market value too much)
-buy Galaxy S3

oh, just to rub salt in the wound, when I got home, today, after cracking the screen, my dritztronic case, with screen protector, was in my mailbox... mocking me...
Get one of these TPU cases, very minimal and offers a good grip, easy to take on and off and has a ever so slightly raised edge around the front so even if you drop it face first the screen won't impact any surfaces. I got the clear one with the curved sand blasted part. I think I paid like $9 shipped and it came within a week.
Thanks
Thanks everyone for all the sympathetic and constructive replies. Unfortunately the phone is just right over the 14day US T-mobile insurance, and my credit card does not provide any.
I never believed in cases either, always thought it kills the design of the phone, but after this incident, I may think differently. Such a shame though, it's a such a slick looking phone WITHOUT the case. I am considering writing a complaint email to HTC, not sure if it will do any good, but worth a shot.
I had also checked screen replacement online, but they are still in the $150-$200 range.

I doubt HTC is going to help you. You dropped it, and therefore are responsible. Yeah, it SUCKS.
Also, I'm surprised that this screen is Gorilla Glass, based on these reports of cracking. What's the point of Gorilla Glass if it breaks just as easy? I know it's scratchproof, but it's also supposed to be much more resistant to breaks.

It's what they SHOULD be doing..seriously. But to explain the process:
Call tmobile
Ask for technical support
Tell them "i don't know what's wrong with my phone, the touch screen isn't working on certain parts and it keeps freezing and calling people on its own" or make up any other non physical issue you can think of.
They'll make you trouble shoot the phone and just play dumb and stick to your "my phone isn't working" excuse
Then the technical support person will tell you "okay, we're going to send you a phone exchange and you just send back the one with issues" they'll ask you if the phone has any PHYSICAL or WATER damage... SAY NO. They'll tell you if they find any damage they will charge you ___ which as the previous poster stated is A LOT cheaper charge than anything the insurance or htc or anyone else will bill you for. You might have to pay for the shipping of the new exchange and that's it.
(and if you end up getting nervous about this and chicken out when the new phone gets to you... just send the same phone back... tmobile sends you a little white box and inside that white box is the shell of the "new" phone with a pre labeled mailing slip and a little sticker to seal the box up again...no big deal)
Make sense?

Durability of the glass

Hi there.
I've got the problem that I have to decide between two devices. P9 or H8.
The H8 looks, imo, better and feels better. A bit thicker and heavier. That's what I like, until now I use the one M8, there I know what I've got in my hands
The biggest deal breaker so far is the back side. Made of Glas. I hate this kind of coolness, that seems to be more important than durability.
Additional there is in Germany no warranty for the first months to get front or back replaced if broken.
So what's your experience with the phone? Already dropped it out of hand or pocket? Perhaps landing on back or front? Did it survive everything so far, or was a side broken?
Next point is the price, honor 8 399€, P9 519€....
If it would have a metal back.....
I'm looking forward for your answers!
Greetings
Patrick

I know this because i had the xperia Z1 and my friend has S6 edge which got scratched too) and I guess as long as you get a case and dont drop it you should be fine.

Well that means that I will call my market and NOT take it. They shall sell it someone else.
A case and a tempered glass is not the problem.
But a crack from a minor drop, and easy scratches and so on, not thank you. That's not worth a saving of 120 euro....
Damned.

Well if you dont have both hands left you wont drop it. That's up to you but i also prefer to buy phones in classic shops instead of dealing with sending my phone for repair through mail (in case of RMA). This is why i bought Honor 8 instead of OP3.
It's not just because of my left hands
I also got a child with 1,5 years. And believe me, somehow she always gets her hand on my phone. And yes, I am sometimes a little bit left handed. My M8 fell down several times, always in a case, but never something (noticeable) happened. But it's getting sooooo slow, I need to make factory reset at least once a month to get a smooth phone back. That's annoying. And that's the point why I need a new one. Or want a new one. Depends on the point of view
And after I know that I definitely WILL let it fall down sometimes.... I go for some phone without a glass back. Seems to me a bit better for my money
And yes, I ordered the last phones on Amazon. But we hate each other now, so I will buy it at a store, or a bit cheaper at O2. But never ever again Amazon for electric stuff.
But I leave the point of this thread.
The glass seems to be ok, as long as you use a foil on the front and a case and never let it fall down.
Point one and two ist fine. Point three impossible. So I have to choose something else... Really a bit bad, cause I like the optic....
Point to add to this...
I've had my Honor 8 for a few weeks. I've never dropped it or set it face down. I don't put it in a pocket with anything else.
I've got a LOT of scratches on the face already. It's really disappointing. I looked online and to get a tempered screen protector (which looks like garbage because they don't cover the whole screen) I'd have to wait until mid October. I'm sure the screen will be in horrible shape by then.
I love the phone but they cheaped out on an important part.

Did you check out Amazon for screen protectors? I found a few on there BUT the best one in my opinion is the Skinomi FULL BODY wrap. I'm getting that one plus a clear case and that should protect it to a certain degree. I've used the Skinomi full body wraps on my HTC's and they work great at protecting from minor drops and scratches....
Good luck!!

What are you talking about? The phone was advertised as having 3 months warranty on the screen.

Yeah the ones on amazon ship to me in October, no earlier. I'm pretty disappointed because I don't use cases or screen protectors on my phones, but my Nexus 5X was fine for 8 months so far with no scratches. I've had this one less than a month and it's starting to get bad.

Did you scratch yours already? Returning your product?

So.. I noticed I happened to scratch mine on the screen. I have no clue how and when it happened. Just noticed it. I did not have any protection for the screen. Never had them in the past. I did have a case though that lifts the screen up when placed facing down. I also never place my phone with the screen facing down. So I am assuming it happened somewhere else.
Since I bought it from Samsung directly, we have 30 days of free premium care support. Turns out that is through Assurant and they pretty much denied coverage on my device first saying it was not covered. When pressed they said they would cover it but I'd have to pay $99 for a replacement device AND that replacement device COULD be a factory refurbished device.
All bad news.. So I am deciding to return the phone back to Samsung since I am within my 14 days. The scratch is small enough and won't jump out on you... and you can't even see it if the screen is on.
Anyone with a similar experience?
:silly:
I doubt you'll find anyone willing to openly admit to also being as petty as what you've described above. How long do you think you'll keep up this game of exploiting (purchase, damage, return & repeat) before considering adequate protection to combat the OCD?!

You scratched it and think you are entitled to a brand new phone for FREE?
What are you 12?
This is whats wrong with America these days folks.. smh.
My firend out right cracked his S8+, filed a claim, paid $99 and got brand new device
This early in the game, they won't have refurbished units - in a month or so probably yeah
Side note, my wife dropped hers from about 3 ft and it has a scuff on the screen - noticeable but nothing horrible. Slapped a screen protector on it and all is good again. Gorilla Glass 5 is definitely a joke cause they claim should be good from higher distance
The feeling of entitlement these days is down right ridiculous.

What about the restocking fee are you not worried they might take more than 15% because of the damage?
Wow. The replies reflect how immature many of you are. You really think Samsung will take a scratched screen back without slapping a fee for it? When I called them to return it, I TOLD THEM IT WAS SCRATCHED. Since I'm within the 14 days and the scratch is small, they said they'll take it but may charge me a little.
I just didn't think it was fair for assurant to charge me $99 for what could possibly be a refurbished device when I'm supposedly enrolled in an insurance program.
Smh
Anyway. The post is more about how easily the screen scratches. I'd rather pay more and get a perfect phone than live with a scratched screen. I remember my first iPhone 6. that I had bought and my kid scratched it. Apple replaced it for a brand new one since it was only 3 days old.

I think you pay for return shipping also. Then you get to wait for them to process the refund. That tiny scratch costs you almost $150 if you consider time and shipping/insurance.
But have you guys scratched your phone too? I don't mind a case. Just don't like them screen protectors that much. It beats the purpose imo

scratched my screen, pretty small, not sure how it happened either, typically haven't had any problems with phones in the past, and have been careful
i'm just gonna pay to have the screen replaced in a couple months

Same here: am always careful and use a lightweight case on all of my phones.

Mine came right out of the box with a scratch. It was a pre-order and head clearly been played with. I immediately called TMobile and filed for a return and ordered a new one. Now my new one might have the home button issue ?

just opened mine yesterday. I kept the film on there was on, and added more tape to make sure i wont get scratches.
I am waiting on screen protectors for back and front
So I returned my S8 to the store and it happened to have a very very faint small scratch on the screen even though I was careful with it and never rubbed it against anything. I don't know how it got there or if it was on it when I opened the box. BB didn't care though, and I returned it cause I was having other issues with the device. My new one came with a screen protector on it (t-mobile version) that didn't have any print on the protector so I've just left it there and you can't even tell lol. But I did find one screen protector I bought that had good reviews. Link here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XV9X72L/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
What issue did you say them?

So let me get this...according to your logic it is ok for samsung to sell phones with the worst glass quality ever? There are complaints all over the place regarding the fact that S8 scratches very easy comparing to any other previous version. I also experience issues with this poor gorilla glass 5...having scratched the display after only 2 weeks although I was being extremely careful with the device. We are all having just bad luck? I doubt it.
I'm sure that the only solution is to have a class action lawsuit against Samsung...otherwise their answer will always be that it's the consumer's fault. Unfortunately it doesn't explode like the Note 7 in order to draw so much attention and force Samsung to admit the problem.
I just noticed a giant scratch on front screen. Phone owned less than 1 month never dropped and never mingled together with hard items like keys. This seems almost impossible. I've owned a smartphone since iPhone 4 and I've never seen a phone scratch this fast for no reason.
Corning has some explaining to do as I believe they are fully responsible. They have taken an easy piggyback ride on the smartphone industry and have advanced beyond their wildest dreams because of it. Now it's 2017 and they are releasing products which do not meet standards.
I totally agree. Corning and Samsung must give an explanation about the scratch resistance of the glass they have put on the S8. I never had problems with scratches on my Samsung devices since gorilla glass 3. What happened this year? Is it a mistake of Corning or Samsung? Do other devices with gorilla glass 5 scratch so easily? I personally bought an ultra thin case (it's the first time i put a case) just to prevent any more scratches.
They made gorilla glass 5 softer to make it more shatter resistant which in fault causes it to scratch easier.
Harder glass= more shatter/less scratches
Softer glass = reduction in shatter/ more scratches.
