I've been trying to turn on ambient display and keeping it up all night to see how the battery drains, and i found out that it drains an extra 10-15% over an 8 hr period. Is this normal or is there something wrong?

No i've seen the same and turned it off, the only option I have on in there is the tap to wake

Hi all,
My new tf700's battery is draining while sleeping.
I tried Don's airplane mode, unchecking Activate Wi-Fi while screen is off, checking disconnect Wi-Fi while screen is off, yet nothing works!
~5% drain per 7 hours.
The battery stats show that ~11% of the system resources go to waste because of "System Idle"...
This is despairing.
Please help.
Even a device that is sleeping consumes power. Personally, I do not think that about 5% per 7 hours is that bad -- is it? I would recommend installing BetterBatteryStats and then have a few charging cycles to see what's happening inside. (It may be an app that's going amok, and that may not be reproducible with a single run.) The standard Android battery report I do not trust.
5⅝ isn't that bad really. There are some extra power saving options and if rooted you can enable deep sleep. That'll give you 1% - 2% overnight.
What's your screen set to? IPs or IPS+?
Which CPU mode?
Is it very cold? Cold drains a battery faster.

The battery drain is minimal with AOD on but I use the option where the AOD only shows when I pick up the phone

Hi ramheer
Do you agree with devsk assessment of the AOD that the battery drains at approximately 2% per hour with it on?
Not sure if he has it always on or just motion like yourself...

Thanks for the reply
I've just started to use the phone after all the set up and transferring sim over and I started with 100/99% before bed and it drained 10%.
Maybe I need to let the battery settle and try without the AOD tonight as a test.

Every AOD implementation drains ~1% battery per hour, but the problem here is that this device has LCD screen, which increases the drain.
I have a device with AMOLED screen and I get around 7%-8% battery drain overnight with AOD enabled, so I just decided to disabled it most of the time and just enable it at certain hours.
I saw the U11+ has an option for motion, so maybe you should try that.
:good:

I'm already using motion but I've not used my phone as my daily driver until I had it just right and today is the first full day. Might be teething problems
I have FC on settings / system / time
or
Clock / settings/ date and time
Is it just me or does the Ambient Display on this device have a pretty high battery drain?
AccuBattery reports 14% in 9 hours screen off drain with 91% of the time being deep sleep.
I'm coming from an S8 where the AOD drain is barely noticeable.
Is this normal or am I missing something?

I just did and will see if that gets rid of the drain. Was just one of the minor reasons to get the Pixel over the Zenfone 6 ^^'

So how did it go?

If you turn the phone face down (or otherwise block the proximity sensor) the screen completely turns off. So it is pretty easy to control when the always on screen is on or off. I turn my phone face down overnight and usually see a 2% reduction in battery over 7-8 hours.
I think with the always on screen on, I see a drop of between 1-1.5% per hour on average. But my phone is also having more notifications and other activity that time of day too which keeps it from deep sleep.
tl/dr - you can leave the "always on screen" setting on all the time. If you don't need the screen and want to save battery, simply turn your phone face down and the screen shuts down completely after about 10 seconds.
Thanks for the input, everyone, I now settled with leaving it on and turning it face down over night or whenever I don't need it.
It just seems that this phone has a significantly higher standby drain than my former S8 in general. Already checking for some wakelocks or other causes for drains with BBS, but maybe it's just normal and I'm being paranoid. It's not an abnormally high drain either, guess I'm just spoiled ^^'
You don't have to put your phone face down. You just need to disable the ambient display and wake it up temporarily by double-tapping on the screen of lifting the phone, whenever you want to check the time or notifications.

I turned off ambient display also and switched over to double tap the screen to see my notifications without pressing the power button or unlocking.
How is everyones standby Drain?
Mines appaling. Even over night it drains about %6 with nothing running and airplane mode on! I've already reset it since the April update and cleared cache etc. SOT is good enough but obviously I will manage less of that with the poor standby drain.
That's about the same for me. 7 or 8% but no airplane mode
I have bixby routine that enables power save mode and disables wifi and mobile data from 22h00 until 06h30 the next day...I loose perhaps 2-3% for that period. Without power save I loose for the same period of time 6-9%
~3% overnight drain. No flight mode.
I lose around 4-5% in 8hrs. That is with WIFI on and Flight mode OFF.
mine has gone down hill over the past few days - not sure - but went from 5% overnight to 15% - didnt change anything - just installed the app updates that were available so am thinking something with an app - but nothing showing up in the battery life check
2-3% overnight drain with everything on, get the galaxy max hz app and enable doze and powersaver mode when screen is off, before mine was 6-8% a night now its 2-3%
1% per hour on average when left idle overnight with wifi on

Is this only in the payed version, because my issue at the moment with this app is, when my phone goes into battery saving mode, when it comes back out (with bixby routine) the phone is stuck in 60 hz. Basically, i have to manually set up the adaptive refresh rate everytime.
Is this problem gone with the payed version? Or am i doing something wrong.
Cheers
Sometimes I leave my phone not charging overnight because I know it'll be fully charged in like 30mins and I don't want to damage the battery. I would turn it off but for some reason my alarms don't work even when "Shutdown Alarm" is turned on.
So I leave my phone sleeping at 75% and I sleep for like 8 hours. I wake up and it's 45%. And when I look at my battery usage, it's mostly "Cell Standby". Does anyone know how I can fix this? thanks

It's good that >you found< the cause of the battery drain.
Prolonged use of fast charging degrades the battery.
Take A bugreport.
Use BatteryHistorian to Analyse what exactly uses "cell standby".
There could be thousands of different wakelocks.
If you have no Clue.. factory reset is Always a good recommemdation.
