[Sony] Xperia Open Devices Project - Sony Xperia X Compact ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, &

Sony Mobile is committed to supporting the open developer community, and one way to show this is by publishing parts of our code as well as selected tools developed by our internal developers.
For some of the Xperia™ devices, we provide Android™ Open Source Project (AOSP) device configurations on GitHub. This means that the software will be open for you as a developer to use and contribute to. This is a way for us to support the open Android community, and it is also a tool for us to facilitate and verify contributions to AOSP.
If you want to build AOSP for your unlocked Xperia device, you find all the resources you need in the sections below.

Does it also mean that the official firmware from Sony will be updated with this new kernel?

I am not a developer but built it following the guide using the sources since a few months back. Boots and runs. Even used it for a time. But couldn't get fingerprint sensor to work properly. When I used 8.0 branch it was working but very slow and roughly. (Nowhere near the sensitivity of the stock rom) now with 8.1 branch can't get it register fingerprints. Sensor works, starts enrollment and progresses, but at the last step it gives error. However seems like more sensitive and faster than before. Another problem is the battery drain when idle. When using the phone daily routine not that bad, slightly less screen on time compared to stock but the real problem idle battery drain. %15-20 in 6-7 hours. According to battery starts appears to be related to Google play services which is always a serious battery killer for custom roms for years. Other than these did not notice any serious problems. And all this without any changes or tweaks. Straight from the source. Good job Sony imo.

@maluus Don't know if this also applies to compiling roms, but Sony just (march 8) released a new version (v11) of the odm image, which solves fingerprint enrollment issues you seem to describe for the omnirom 8.1 build:
https://developer.sony.com/file/dow...es-for-aosp-oreo-android-8-1-kernel-4-4-loire

Yeah heard of it. I was using v10 oem image last time. When i get back to home I'll try with v11 and will see if fingerprint issue is solved. If it's ok i can use it as daily as it is. If battery drain problem is solved too it will be pretty much everything i expect.

Vendor v11 is out
https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/latest-updates
battery drain is fixed and new kernel binary will be released today

FM-radio will work someday on kugo in custom roms?

Anyone tried a recent aosp build with v11 binaries yet? Does fingerprint works correctly and accurately? How is the battery life compared to the stock? What is screen on time?

Just installed an AOSP build from March 15th together with v11 binaries and Micro GApps. Fingerprint is working.

And the battery life? I'm home though. I'll be building soon ?

Here is the list of all known bugs. If you find bugs you can always open a ticket in the bug tracker and we will check it ASAP.
https://github.com/sonyxperiadev/bug_tracker/issues

@jerpelea, do you know if there is a modem binary file for this phone that's compatible with T-Mobile VoLTE in the US? The XZ1C has a compatible file (amss_fsg_lilac_tmobile_us_ims_tar.mbn). The stock ROM doesn't, but I'm trying to get VoLTE working and this file would certainly help (if it exists).

Last night I built again. First thing I noticed is how well fingerprint reader works. It's like stock. Congrats to the devs for good job. Camera including video recording and Bluetooth works. But camera seems 1-2 mm smal from sides. Charging issue persists. As Harry pointed 3 amp chargers doesn't work. I tried 2 other chargers. 2.1 amp charger work normally. But 1 amp charger starts do disconnect and connect again after 43-44%. (I'll share the logs with devs) Another problem I noticed is that I can't root with magisk. Tried ver 16, 17 and 18. I can flash from twrp without error but when the device boot up neither Magisk manager is installed nor device is rooted. I did not try with supersu. Another thing to mention is that device boots up pretty slow. Boot crash still happens sporadically.
PS: Supersu works. Sometimes device lags heavily. I noticed especially on chrome and some banking apps.
PS 2: Sharing logs. (Includes 3 amp charging attempt and 2.1 amp charging)

little off, very very basic question, and I could not seem to find the answer.
I understand how to set up a build environment and build an image to the phone, but how about the developer.sony.com latest section binaries?
are they already built images? how will it be different if I build mine following the instructions?
Cheers,

You'll build rom first then you still need to flash that binaries too. They are not alternatives to your home build rom. They are part of the os which you won't be able to homebrew, for your device to work properly.

Copy the .zip to the SDCard and install it. The installation script take a little time.
First Run
On first run you are presented with a language selection, after this time you should be presented with the first-run wizard. Complete as much as possible, but dont try and create a Jolla account as there wont be a network connection (unless you have inserted a sim and by chance it works, I havnt tested that). To get out of the wizard, scroll down because the 'skip' link is off the bottom of the screen.

Interesting, this is great.
I suggest you post in the right thread for people to see this amazing project you have started.
Sailfish for our device; keep up the good work, will love to see more.
hope it doesn't end here.
That's a great rom, especially if it can work for daily driver. Using the DHD with sailfish and respond as fast as a dual or quad android phone would be great(even if it's not android)
1st I prefer speed/response time
2nd then android (I prefer 1st anyday)
This actually seems pretty cool! The feel I get is that this is miles ahead of Ubuntu Touch when I was working on it. It would be fun to see how awesome this could get with a full development team working on it as their dayjob. After all, this seems to be more suitable for old single-core device than the latest Android versions have been. Great job PiggZ! :good:
Sound is working
Good news peeps, I got sound output working! A new rom will follow in a few days
Ive been using this for the last weeks to allo developing sailfish applications, and for that purpose it is working just fine. Ive not attempted to get the mobile network up yet, but i'll make some enquiries.
Obviously development so moved to the right place.
OP, please make sure you have the ability to post in this thread. If not, please let me know.

[TESTING] JDI J1 touch lag fix

If you have a JDI display (what you can verify on MIUI via *#*#6484#*#* and on AOSP via "su [click enter] cat /proc/cmdline" command), you currently get a touch lag (limit) on every Oreo/Pie-based ROM (MIUI too). If you move your finger ultra slowly, the touch pointer stays until you move 2-3mm in distance, then it simply jumps. I really don't want to explain why it feels like crap, but even a single millimeter isn't a small unit on miniaturized computers which often need to be operated in detail (UI sliders, graphic editors, scrolling clickable elements).
So, if you happen to understand that and to already be pissed off, here you go: I built a kernel with the touchscreen firmware extracted by Luca Stefani https://review.lineageos.org/c/LineageOS/android_kernel_xiaomi_msm8996/+/197860 long ago, when Xiaomi still had it fixed. Sadly, the scorpio-o-oss source code drop (which is used on every AOSP Pie ROM) and any of the official Oreo MIUI builds no longer contain it.
Then here we go: so far, only one tester booted it for me and it was on Syberia ROM, while the image I link is made on top of LOS 16 trees. I want to test with few people before committing. Maybe it's too much of a hassle, but at least nobody will tell me it's dangerous or irrelevant.
Your mission is:
- test it
- don't be dumb to ask about anything explained in the thread
https://transfer.sh/12rbtB/lineage-16.0-20190725-UNOFFICIAL-capricorn.zip
For moderators: even if it's kernel, it's more of a mod and nothing with plans to be further maintained. If you really decide to move it, it's up to you, but to me, it wouldn't make sense.
It works! Thanks a lot!
Jdi
Current state: need to figure out why fp gets broken, as it turns out it is :| If I won't come up with any solution, I'll just build the kernel sometimes, for the people who hate this lag and couldn't use any ROM with it (like me). But I hope I'll fix it up.
Edit: Pie trees may be unfinished or requiring something special, because fp works properly with 15.1 build.

Android Developer Preview Discussion Thread

Hey Guys,
Want to discuss about the latest android developer preview
Will share the findings here.
All are welcome to do it here.
Hope we can create a stable preview soon.
First of all, apps which need to pass a security check don't work in the current build:
- Netflix
- Pokemon Go
- Others?
* The new gesture navigations options can't be found yet under Settings > System > Gestures. Although you can find the 3 options if you search in the settings, you can't change it.
* Some settings can only be changed via the developer options (accent colors, icon shape).
* Signal bar is not visible in the notification bar
Yup.
And fortunately, i am not facing some problems which are mentioned on the Nokia's community page.
Some missing features which i noticed are -
1. Gestures
2.Buggy Download manager
3.VoLTE seems to be working but not completely. I can receive calls but not make calls and send/receive sms.
4.Camera works fine. However, its the vanilla version of Camera app provided by Qualcomm so nothing special expected from it. Nokia will replace that app with it's own in upcoming builds.
5.External storage like SD card is not accessible by third-party apps but only system apps compatible with Android Q . I guess there are some changes with Storage framework because of which apps are not able to access SD card. Checked this with Whatsapp, instagram.
6.Apps requiring Google certifications/safety net or something similar would not work because the OS is still in Development phase.
7.Fingerprint is working fine, but is slow.
8.Dark theme is not properly applied over settings app.
9.Files app crashes when refreshing.
If you are reading this and thinking to update to Android Q Dev Preview. I would like to clarify that the OS is still in development and may get even worse with every update.
So, if you are not ready to use other phone as a backup do not update to Q.
Definitely facing all the above mentioned issues, in addition to Whatsapp being unable to restore backups from Google drive.
Anyways i made the mistake as installing this as my daily driver... Do you guys have any idea if it's possible to rollback even if there's no official support for that?

I installed the ota update (v5) last night. I had faced the same issue regarding the fingerprint sensor after manual install. For the time being, I see that the phone is working well. But when I m receiving calls, I am not able to answer right away. The phone app is freezing or disappearing in the background.

Camera & Flash not working after unlocking and changing ROMs (Very new to all this)

Camera & Flash not working after unlocking and changing ROMs (Very new to all this)
Hi,
So I just did my first ever unlock on my Xperia Z5 dual E6683 yesterday and was a bit overwhelmed at first but actually started enjoying tinkering with TWRP and the adb flash tool. Anyway I was hoping to use LineageOS 17.1 Android 10 as my main OS and everything is fine (actually better than stock) except for the camera and flash which are not being detected at all. I have tried wiping and reflashing the ROM multiple times and changed versions but to no avail. I have been looking for a fix since yesterday and it seems this is a common problem. Is there any Android 10 ROM thats secure, stable and has a working camera for the Z5 or is this issue fixable? Should I started looking into "kernals"?
Things I tried:
lineage-17.1-20200722-UNOFFICIAL-sumire
lineage-17.1-20200411-UNOFFICIAL-sumire
-
OpenCamera
-
with or without Gapps
I am currently downloading a stock Z5 ROM to see if the camera works.
Thanks for your help!
UPDATE:
So the camera, flash, mic and touch sensor are all working on carbonOS but it runs on Nouget so I am missing alot of the features i am used to, still looking for a fix for LineageOS camera/mic.
Its still being worked on, Android 7 and 10 have different kernel requirements, please be patient. Also dont open a forum post if it clearly states in the lineageos 17.1 forum thread. Also keep in mind that its an unofficial rom, and also no, currently there are no stable roms with camera working.

[ROM][11] JAGUAR R FOR ONEPLUS 3

This is the official build of Jaguar Rom. I have been building Android roms since 2012 for various devices including multiple Sonys, Lenovo Zuk and Oneplus 5 (my current device). You can check the Oneplus 5 development thread here: Oneplus 5 thread
Jaguar rom is focused on hardening of Android and kernel. As such, the rom has hardened bionic and tightened security. Kernel has security features ported from linux kernel 4.14.
Otherwise, the rom has all standard+ features that come with custom roms:
1 Rom control with custom Power menu, Statusbar, Buttons, Navbar, Quicksettings, Lockscreen, Notifications, Gestures, Themes etc.
2. Working FDE encryption, which is not forced, but could be enabled within Settings
3. Heavily modified Art, Bionic System/Vold and System/Security
4. Telephony response ('silently acknowledged') to Type Zero sms disabled
5. Toggle to disable Captive Portal logging
6. Rom could be booted on locked bootloader out of the box
7. All customizations as listed in '1'
8. MicroG ready
Instructions:
1. If you are encrypted on any other rom, you need to do a factory reset in TWRP, the option, where you enter 'Yes' to confirm.
2. Reboot into TWRP (after factory reset), transfer Jaguar to internal SD, wipe system/cache/data and /vendor, if you have it;
3. Flash the rom and reboot.
You will be unencrypted. If you want encryption (FDE, not ICE), encrypt withing Settings.
Rom V1 is in the attachment. All subsequent release will be posted in #3.

I am waiting for @optimumpro to release update with Jan-2021 ASP's. Then I plan to use it as my daily driver.
Currently I have it on my OP3 as a testbed, so can't really provide feedback on battery life. For my OP3/3T over the years average daily SOT has been around 2:30 to 3:30 hours upto & including Android 11.

But that sot seems quite short. Depending on the use you gave, ofc.
But with moderate use, I usually get around 4h.

So your ROM seems to be build from MSM Xtended sources. There are improvements or advantages in your ROM over the original Xtended ROM?

I used AOSP sources, as well as Msm-Xtended, as well as DU, as well as Crdroid, but:
1. Art, Bionic, System/Vold, System/Security and most of /frameworks/base sources are different
2. Interface is different
3. Some blot removed
4. Several different apps
5. Kernel is different: I squashed about 20 commits (hardening) in one
6. Blobs are different
7. My rom can disable (with a toggle) Captive portal apk, which is spyware. Otherwise, if you uninstall it, you'll have a nasty 'X' in wifi and some sites may not work
8. Acknowledgement of receipt of type zero SMS is disabled. This is is the first thing hackers do - ping your phone with an sms that doesn't appear on screen... .
But ultimately, only you can decide which rom to use.
@optimumpro
My post was not to offend you. Thanks for the explanation and clarification. Your points make sense and they are great and important plus over the other ROMs. This should me mentioned in the OP.
I know that asking for ETA is not welcome on XDA. But one more question concerning updates. What are your plans for that. Your ROM has security in focus. Do you think building monthly updates for Android Security Bulletin?
I don't switch ROMs very often, cos I'm to lazy for this. So when switching to a new ROM I'll like to stick on it for a long time.

Usually, once a month. However, this rom is version 1, so, there might be more updates. Definitely, one with January security patches in a few days.
January 8: New release, V2.0
1. January security patches
2. Rom rebuilt with speed flag. As a result, it is larger in size, but should be speedier, because there is less runtime compiling involved
Dirty flash is fine on top of V-1. Download in post #3.

No. - I am using the latest version of TWRP - twrp-3.5.0_9-0-oneplus3
Great to see this hardened flavour of 11 which can even be used with locked bootloader @optimumpro !
As I understand you will have monthly updates also which is great to keep our phone up to date.
One question though; is it possible to use /data/local/userinit.sh scripts with this rom?
Would be a great option to do some system settings without the need of Magisk or other stuff.
