Hello guys!
I'm looking for a smartwatch (branded or not) with standalone possibility and wifi connectivity. I'd like to use it in a custom project, so I need to have a watch without need to be paired to a smartphone and with WiFi.
I've found a lot of chinease devices for this porpuse, but I don't know which is the best. Also, a branded watch will be preferred.
Any advice?
Thanks!

Hello everybody,
I've been searching for this for a while now and haven't found much so I'm hoping you could shed some light on this topic: where can i find the documented wireless connectivity API for Android. I'm interested in building an application capable of connecting to a broadcasting wireless network. It should be somewhat similar to that wireless network and connectivity feature already present - it's just that I'm thinking of adding some other cool features.
Thanks in advance!
Doesn't anyone have a clue?
Hi everyone,
Is it possible to enable Bluetooth DUN Profile support in the Transformer so that I can use my 3G cellphone (Symbian S60v3) as a Bluetooth dial-up modem?
Thanks!
No, it is not possible and will likely never be possible unless someone modifies the android code. I've been studying the problem for a while but can't seem to make any headway.

This stuff i now working perfecly in any linux system!
What would they need? Port ppp and some code from network-manager? Probably the mobile phone providers database also.
Does anyone know what is the reason why this is not implemented?
I have an HTC Desire HD (DHD), I was hoping to use the BT DUN or PAN from the TF to the DHD when I was out an about, seems this wont work.
Then I thought, OK, if I connect the TF to the DHD with USB, I can use tethering, that does not seem to work either.
Any thoughts?
You MAY be able to get BT-tether to work between your tablet and your cellphone if you install pdaNET on both, and your cellphone supports BT-DUN. I believe stock Android kernel doesn't support BT-DUN, but if it's rooted and the custom ROM supports it you're in business.
For me I go with wifi-tether ... it's much faster.
USB-tether would make sense, cos you can charge your phone at the same time (with your dock, I suppose). Problem is there's no phone driver for the Android tablet and I don't think there will ever be.
So, in short, if you have a Symbian phone there's no way to have Internet access in the TF101 through the phone.
This is not good news...
[Q] Bluetooth Dial-up Networking Profile (DUN) in 3G firmware?
Does anyone know if the 3G firmware version supports Dialup Networking through Bluetooth?
The complexity of supporting DUN should not be much bigger than supporting GSM SIM cards, right?
There is no joy for us blackberry users either.
I think that dual-booting a standard Linux distribution is probably the way to go...
According to lilstevie Network Manager is starting to work.
Then it's just plug and play, hopefully
Hi I am not expert so please forgive me if i am answer wrongly .
I manage to use bluetooth internet sharing to my TF but I am using Iphone 3gs and use Internet Tethering option.
Is that what you want ? I never tested using nokia phone.
As far as I know, tethering requires the mobile phone to act as a wireless access point.
Symbian does not support this natively.
I did find an application that would implement it, but it was purchasable only.
And I'm trying to find a free solution.
I managed to get this working in CyanogenMod 7.1... in theory it should work on any Android 2.3.7 based OS.
I'm going to write a howto geared for the end-user later tonight, but for now my notes are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352936
Hi all,
Does anybody know about the Bluetooth profiles of the Skyrocket or has some experience with Bluetooth stacks? I’m trying to check whether this phone supports PAN (personal area network) Bluetooth profile so that I can share my internet connection with my car… it sucks that my old Nokia E72 and BB Torch 9800 and even the iPhone do so I'm hoping this phone does too. I have searched the forums and the internet in general and in some places the specs say that it does support the profile, in some places it doesn’t even mention it; but the truth is that this phone does not work with my car and the others do. Right now I’m running xborder56’s QuikWiz v1.0.3 ROM and I have also tried with the stock rom.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, I love this phone and wouldn’t want to change it
Thanks!
Hi guys
I do not own the watch yet but have just been informed that apparently the WiFi model still relies on a smartphone to connect to the internet, is this true?
(I was told that the WiFi in the watch is simply a WiFi direct and that it will not work when the phone is off.)
My use case is the following: I wish to write my own applications for it that can connect to WiFi networks independently of the phone and can make API queries from Javascript
without using my phone's internet connection but instead directly connecting to,say, my company's wifi. Is this possible?
I know that without my smartphone active, the watch obviously won't have access to my smartphone notifications, but that is not what I am looking for in a watch anyway.
My ideas are going more in the direction of querying my own API for my server(via json) so I can keep an eye on its status. Does such a thing work with the smartphone being off, or is this something that works exclusively with the 3G version of the S2? I would love to get the 3G model, but it isn't being sold in my country.

Yes, it is possible. The watch connects to the WiFi by itself... You don't need the phone for that

Yes, using WIFI to connect other than the watch is doable, the problem that I had was the battery drain, it drained the battery in 3 hours when I have the WIFI set to on. so now I only use it Bluetooth to my phone, and with that, it lasts 2-3 days without a charge.
There are some folks here trying to decide between getting the Frontier bluetooth/WiFi only vs the LTE model. There are others who are iPhone users. And there are probably a few folks, like me, who want to ditch (or significantly reduce) the use of their smartphone. For us, knowing what the LTE version can do on its own is important. Its clear that an Android phone is required for setup, but beyond that, how accessible does it need to be? What S3 functions/apps work without being connected to a smartphone?
You will be able to go to the gym or do other sporting activities such as hiking or snowboarding without a phone. take calls, texts and as of the middle december listen to Spotify.
You also cannot use the find my phone/find my gear feature if they are need to use the mobile network. If you're within Bluetooth range then it will work just fine though.
I have an LTE device and have noticed that Samsung Pay still requires the companion app on the phone. You can make up to 5 purchases (depending on card issuer) while disconnected from the phone, but after that you have to connect to the phone again to continue to use Samsung Pay. On a positive note, I have had great success using Samsung Pay on the watch and it works in many places that don't take NFC payment as well.
While connected via Bluetooth, the watch disconnects from the LTE network and works just like a Bluetooth version of the watch.
