Hi everyone I have looked for different sites to find answers but i couldn't find anything on this topic.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ both can record at 960fps which is the same as Sony Xperia XZ premium. But is the recorded video really 960frames?
Since both the phones can only record 0.2seconds of super slow motion videos that means that in that amount of time it only records 192 frames. Thus when played back at 30fps you get 6seconds of slow motion video.
You can also record 1080p at 240fps when you are in Slow Motion mode
Isn't this like a gimmick where people actually think that they are recording at 960fps when they are actually recording only 192frames. If the super slow motion really recorded for 1 second than that would be a true 960frames video.
Can someone create an app where we could maybe enable 1 second of video recording instead of 0.2seconds? Or create an app where you can record instantaneous slowmotion video straight after another?
Or create an app where you can record 720p at 480fps?
I have already preordered s9+ and i was lucky enough to get hands on experience exclusively at the samsung store in the mall where they had different colors of s9 and s9+ demos. I can't wait to recieve mine on 12th march
An app that enable 720p480 FPS sounds better than 960 FPS at 0.2 seconds.

Its a limitation of the frame buffer on the sensor, with sony you can only record like .1 second so its not any better.

The RATE is still 960fps (960 frames per second) even if it's recording less than 1 second of video.
I guess OP doesn't understand what frames per second means? It's a framerate, not a specific frame count. No one promised a specific frame count, and it's a pretty pointless metric to worry about anyway. Unless, maybe you're concerned about file sizes. In which case it would be relevant, as more total frames means a larger video file.
Framerate determines the quality of the slow motion capture, frame count is just a combination of framerate and the video capture duration. They made it explicitly clear that the super slow mo is 960fps for 0.2 seconds. I honestly have no idea what the point of OPs post is.
Can anyone tell me where the setting is to do slow mo in 1080p?
Has anyone else noticed that while attempting to record in super slow mode on the SGS9+ the videos are VERY dark?.

how many fps we get with normal slow motion mode?
---------- Post added at 03:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:14 PM ----------
ok. found the answer myself ... http://www.samsung.com/in/support/skp/faq/1144177
why they couldnt combine the "normal" slowmotion (240fps) with 0.2sec of 960fps ?? i hate when superslomo time is up and the video continue in fullspeed....
Is there anyway to use super slow motion on videos after they've been recorded at normal speed?

Has anybody else experiences a "zoom" when you go into super slow motion mode? or is it just me?

With Sony you could record a period of 0.182 seconds (or about a fifth of a second) in 960fps in 720p a year ago. And 0.182 seconds & 0.2 are pretty much the same & you get the same 5-6 seconds slow-mo video. Samsung does it now in 720p while Sony is doing it in full HD (1080p).

It's very well known fact. 960fps is not some ordinary thing. Camera sensor needs a lot of light to do it as shutter speed is too fast.
Outside lighting is the best, electrical lighting tends to pulse as the fps is faster than the electrical pulse.

Not that I can find so far, that's one part of the OPO that disappointed me a little. I used to record in full 1080p 60fps in everything with my previous phones, just looks so much better. Here's hoping a software update will allow it.
Maybe we just need another app?
I'm looking for the same thing... the hardware is powerful enough

I'm not sure how to to about this. One thing I really care about on a phone I purchase is video recording quality, more specifically 1080p/60fps and slow motion. Unfortunately, the Galaxy s7 has an issue with both of these.
You know how the Galaxy s7 focuses pretty much instantly when recording video in 1080p, 1440p, or 4k? Well, it doesn't happen in the 60fps mode. The focus is even slower than my s6 in 60fps and there is tons of "focus hunting" where it bounces back and forth between focus as you're recording. Focus is literally perfect in any mode besides 60fps.
Then we have an issue with 240fps slow motion where there are a ton of frame skips throughout the video (just YouTube s7 slow motion videos to see what I'm talking about).
These two issues are huge for me. It's unfortunate because I love everything else about the phone. How can we make Samsung aware of these issues?
Snapdragon or Exynos?

Does your low-light performance take a hit on the slow motion recording? Because mine does... is this normal for slow motion recording?
Don't see this issue on sd820
Well, i can confirm the slower focus on my G935F (maybe double the time as the normal camera focus), but no skipped frames.

It probably would take a hit as you're using a slower shutter speed to achieve slow motion.

Of course it does. The shutter speed allows half as much light to reach the sensor. This cannot be altered, except to post-process the video on a computer and apply some heavy noise reduction (with the corresponding drop in sharpness).
has anyone a video from the issue? (youtube maybe)
I just noticed stuttering in my slow motion recording..
Many people are starting to tell Samsung about this issue on Twitter.
i have stuttering/jittery in my videos in all modes , they r less in de low reso's but when going higher reso's its gets it alot. the easiest way to achieve the jitter/stutter is moving left/right & up/down with the handset, if your keeping the handset still there's no problem can anyone confirm this by trying ?
The flickering from my flourescent lighting is awful on the slowmo video. This is usually corrected by software so I was very surprised to see it. I'd forgive this if there weren't so many frame drops going on as well. The slowmo video on Snapdragon devices is basically broken. Unfortunately, Samsung has not made an official statement acknowledging the issue. It will require more people to report it.

it seems like 1080p 60fps mode doesn't really make use of Dual Pixel phase detection.. it felts more like contrast detection to me.. there might be chance that Dual Pixel are not supported in 60fps mode.. keep our finger crossed.
Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Google Pixel 2 XL come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Am I the only one worried with video quality of the Pixel 2?
From what I'm seeing on YouTube the last couple of days, stabilization is GREAT but the actual quality is sadly just not good. Especially when panning, it's not as smooth as say the iPhones or Galaxy devices. Tons of artifacts and jitters.
Any chance these aspects can be improved later with software updates? :\
Have any of you read about the Secret Pixel Visual Core Processor that Google said it installed in both the Pixel 2 & XL 2 that they have not activated yet which incorporates HDR+ and machine learning algorithms that can be updated through future updates. It is supposed to be activated with the 8.1 Android update. Apparently it's a stand alone chip from the 835 Snapdragon that has it's own cores & ram dedicated to the camera. It's supposed to be 5 times faster than Qualcomm chip while only using 1/10 of the power. So basically it's supposed to take the camera to the next level while being even more energy efficient.... ? Sounds great to me, can't wait to see this in action!!!!

I thought the video recording quality wasn't as good as my original Pixel XL when I went into the Verizon store yesterday 10/21/17 but I noticed that when you have the 1080p video option on, when the camera app is launched, before pressing record you have to change the fps from 30 to 60 in the on-screen settings to the left of the video screen. When I did that it basically mirrored my original Pixel XL except the picture quality of the XL 2 is of course naturally better. I'm sure with the update it'll exceed all other competition.
My only question is can the note 8 camera be ported into the XL 2? Because I loved the zoom while viewing a recorded video feature, which neither the XL not XL 2 pixels have.

I'm sure there is some way to port it over. I'd be surprised if the app hasn't already been extracted.
Honestly, video means so much to me and so far, what I'm seeing on YouTube looks pretty bad. The stabilization looks promising, but the actual quality is poor. Very noisy, bad frame rate drops and jitters. Still photos might be class leading but video looks worse than my Oneplus 5 at the moment.
I hope they'll be able to improve it significantly
I mean.. just look at it. It's a shame that the Pixel 2 is doing so well in still images but video has been completely neglected. Okay, good stabilization and all, yes. But why have good stab with such quality? what for?

I noticed this too. Wasn't sure if it was my unit or in general, as I've not read any complaints. I posted (https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/help/strange-sound-feedback-video-recordings-t3693360) a vid I shot w/2XL and a vid from wife's iPhone.
I tested another unit in Verizon and same distortion was there. A replacement is coming, but I'm not optimistic.
My video quality is great
I am extremely happy with the video quality now. I recently made a video. Watch at 4k. Personally I think its pretty amazing for youtube. Hard to tell the difference between this and several thousand dollar 4k cameras. Audio on the other hand is ABSOLUTE garbage and I cant connect my external mic.

Thanks a lot (already found one of those via youtube search ). The low light looks really good.. but the 2 XLs audio.. :/ Sizewise I'd only buy the 5" Pixel 2 anyway, but i still hope that this is fixable with a software update and not a problem with the microphones. LG is certrainly capable of good audio recording.
However, not to capture this thread or anything, but i am more certain every day, that this is only an issue with the 2 XL. I couldn't find many samples that are from the Pixel 2, but non of them have these audio issues:

so it's a treble or mic issue that can be fixed through software update. Video looks amazing on P2XL from all the videos shown. Remember this is a video quality thread not an audio quality thread. And honestly I didn't hear it until you said something about it and I cranked my soundbar to hear it.

I agree although most video makers will say that audio is more important than actual video quality. Most people will turn off a beautiful video that has bad audio. I personally wouldnt care 2 cents about the audio quality if I could get my external mic working but I cant get any mic working on this phone. Itll only record with the internal mic which just suuuucks. The bass is completely missing and it amplifies high hissing and clanking sounds. Sorry I got off track there lol. The video quality really is the best I have seen in a phone. Not surprised it got the best video score on DXO mark. I plan to use this as my main camera when I make an overseas trip in a few months. This paired with a few moment lenses and a gimbal will make incredible cinematic video.

The more I think about it, maybe it has something to do with google assistant and it being able to hear you from across the room? Could it be software issue where google assistant shouldn't be able use that mic while in video mode? Just a thought.
The fact that pixel2 has no the audio issue worries me it can be 2 xl microphone issue. Both should run same sw.

Hello i've just moved to this device couple days ago.
I noticed that the slowmo video is horribly dark.
Anyone experiencing this?
How to fix this problem?
Thank you in advance guys
It's not the fault of Oneplus or 6?
Super-slo-mo means super-short-exposure, so you need a larger lens opening (which you can't do in a cellphone) or more light.

A couple of points:
- the video is relatively low res, only 720p
- you need super good lighting. Think about it for a moment. At 440 FPS you have a crazy fast shutter speed. You’re going to need good lighting conditions to get anything decent.?
how to slow mo video shoot more then 120fps (240,480, 960) if any patch or tricks
I think you can do 240 at 720p. There is no trick or patch for more. The cpu just doesn't support it.
