Getting the 6X today - Root / ROMS - Where To Start ? - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
I would like to know where to start with a 6X received today.
It's BLN-L24C567B360, EMUI 5.0, Android 7.0 !
Examples:
- get the latest OTA, firmwares etc before rooting ?
- the most stable and the lightest ROM (no bloatware) nowadays ?
Thx guys ! :highfive:

By reading this Q&A section, maybe ?
There are a lot of bricked phone's. And there is still no fully working custom Rom.
Just uninstall the bloat, change the theme and be happy with your phone.

Thx for the advice !
However, is the root still interesting then ? I mean is there there a way to really debloat (and getting rid of most of Gapps) without rooting for instance?
Thx again :good:

Yeah rooting is interesting always, because TWRP and Xposed are a must for every phone in my opinion. The possibility of install apps like AdAway to protect against intrusive advertisings, the chance to recover your device with a nandroid backup and the use of Xposed are essential.
About debloating, I made a guide about bloatware on EMUI safe to remove (link in my signature) and i wrote about how to do it with root, but it's possible to do that even without root through the use of ADB.

For better batterylife, temperatures and peformance, better sound and display. A good custom kernel will improve the phone a lot bro imo.

This is also my first nexus device... I have always had HTC before and rooted every phone that I had... This is the first phone that im happy with stock rom, but I would like to change the kernel... My question is how quickly will the stock rom be posted up with every update... I know I'm not going to really want to wait...

I've had Android phones for a few years but never rooted until I got my Nexus 7. I've loaded roms but havent delved into it too hardcore. This is also my first Nexus handset device.
As far as rooting - the replies here have outlined the benefits. If you simply root and unlock bootloader, then you can still receive the OTA updates. however, if you load up a rom, you have to wait until the developer incorporates the updates - unless, the rom already has anticipated and tweaked those issues in a positive way.
If you need to ask why you should root then you probably shouldn't; it's not a question of Chrome vs Dolphin or Nova vs Stock Launcher..
Here's a nice little article: http://google.about.com/od/socialtoolsfromgoogle/a/root-android-decision.htm.
Read around as much as you can and don't use a toolkit. Go the route that is described in the link in my signature. Make it a learning experience!

google usually posts the full stock images within a couple weeks of OTA.
I rooted my first device (Galaxy S2) when I became tired of Touchwiz.
I rooted my Motorola RAZR HD because there was no possibility to silent the camera shutter sound without root (I renamed the system sound files).
Now I rooted my Nexus 5 because I'm using Greenify and AdAway which only works with root access. I'll also try different Recoveries, Kernels etc. to increase the performance/battery life in the future.
Titanium Backup. 'Nuff said.
This is the first phone I haven't rooted within minutes of owning, partly because I've been busy and party because I'm really quite happy with it. Unfortunately I need root for ad blocking so I think I'll be doing it today.

Adblocking through hosts files. Also you can use droidwall to select which apps get cellular data and which apps get wifi only and which apps get no internet access. Secure settings app will allow you to set conditions to set and remove your lock pin based upon conditions set by an app like tasker. I use this to enable lockscreen when not in range of my bluetooth headset or home wifi.

no reason at all!!! but it's fun to flash things.... and kernel upgrades if they are done well can make you feel a bit more elite with some nice things. depends on the device and there is a lot of gimmickry with roms and kernels out there. but this being a nexus there might not be as many issues with modifications since there aren't so many manufacturer proprietary binaries and unusual dependencies. but sometimes on the kernel end they can upgrade sound and video drivers, or adjust parameters that effect battery life and things. my old captivate would go as much as 4 days to a charge becasue the gingerbread and even froyo development comunity on the i9000 was so good. the infuse i replaced that with never got that level of kernel support.
if you don't have an expressed need to root, like maybe for unlocking a feature the carriers took out such as teathering, or removing factory spyware like carrier iq (not that they do that anymore to my knowledge) or certain applications then rooting isn't really needed.

[Completed] Rooted HUAWEI ASCEND Y220-U10 Custom ROM Compatible?

Hey guys I am fairly new to android and really new to this rooting and custom rom thing and I've been doing my research with what a rooted android w/ custom rom could look like and what it could further do.
I was hoping that my rooted phone is compatible with Custom Roms like Cyanogen Mod, AOKP, etc. Unfortunately my phone isn't listed in any listed devices in the well known Custom Rom Sites but I still proceeded with installing Cyanogen Mod since everyone seems to be using it. I don't even know if there are more of these eye candy useful mods that makes the ios look miserably locked up while hoping at least one of these custom rom is compatible with my crappy awesome phone. But upon installation process of Cyanogen Mod WITHOUT awareness that it really isn't compatible, it stated in that page that I could (STILL)use their Custom Rom at my own risk. Beyond that I stopped the installation process in fear of destroying my phone.
I was wondering whether you guys could enlighten me about the compatibility of Huawei Y220-U10 to Custom Roms. I've seen Huawei Y210's on youtube that's using a custom rom but unfortunately ALL of them who's demonstrating their phones are speaking in Spanish. I also installed ROM Installer but I can't seem to see 'FEATURED'? Maybe because it's the free version?
Now I am willing to take the risk, starting from the bottom meaning derooting my phone, wiping it clean, rerooting it and flashing that Custom Rom but I'm seeking advice from much more experienced users because if you guys tell me that it is a BIG NO NO I guess I'll just have to stick with the Go Launcher and wait until I get a much better, stronger, faster android smartphone which has a friendlier compatibility to everything android. And how come I can't access facebook nor yahoo from any web browser in my phone? is it a virus? Please clarify my theories.
Much Regards, Jom
P.S. Phone is running at 2.3.6 and rooted with Kingo Android ROOT
Hello @Jom Apa Welcome to Android / XDA!
"BIG NO NO!" You can't flash ROMs not made for your device because of the underlying hardware incompatibilities. You might completely kill your phone.
Give me a few minutes while I search for ROMs you can use
UPDATE: Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any custom firmware for your device nor Github entries for the chipset used. Seems you'll either have to stick with stock or create your own custom ROMs there are a lot of support here on XDA, Let the learning begin!
Cheers!

Root SM-N915FY 5.1.1 COJ2

Hi Everybody,
I'm a very happy owner for more than a year of a wonderful Note Edge. I'm getting a little bored and I'm looking for a safe and easy way to root my phone without if possible implement Knox (and in top of that I'm a Mac User...).
Any advices ? What do you think of Kingroot or Oneclickroot ? Possible ?
Thanks in advance for your kind help !!!
not possible, you need custom Kernel like Micki`s Kernel!

As far as I now there are 3 possible "rooted" ROMs to try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/development/rom-micky387lollifamous5-1-1v1-t3200849
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/development/rom-edgerom-coh2-5-1-1-lp-deodex-t3197069
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/development/riverrom-coh2-5-1-1-s6e-note5-feature-t3203799
using 2 different "permissive" kernel kernels (from micky387 and Pafcholini @emotroid Team) :good:
Now, with SuperSU beta 2.60 or 2.61 it's possible root Note Edge without custom kernel.
Has anyone used this N915FY rom (COJ2) to Deodex/Zipalign & remove KNOX?
(pre-rooting it's no neccesary now if you flash new supersu 2.6x zip from TWRP/CWM as mentioned above).
I'm trying to do it by myself using ArchiKitchen by @JustArchi but I'm having problems trying to run this tool from windows 8.1 with Cygwin.
If someone have already done the job (basically zipalign/deodex and remove KNOX) please upload it and give us the link
PD: Maybe deodex the rom it's no necessary (I've tried stock rom and it's quite fast. What I really need now it's to remove KNOX related apps and services).

Galaxy tab 2 10.1 P5110 - Latest stable Android based OS?

Hi everybody,
Seems like I posted in the wrong topic (General forum), so I post my question here
I am now using a Galaxy tab 2 P5110, running under Android 4.1.2, not rooted.
My problem is that my Tab is really slow when I use basic apps (chrome, office apps).
In order to get a bit more power from it (removing the Samsung layout, but I know it's a 2012 tablet...) I am looking for the most stable ROM I could use, and if possible running under a quite recent android version.
I am quite new to this kind of manipulations, so I am also looking for a tutorial to instal the ROM you could advice me.
I know I have to root my tab before doing anything. Does the tutorial available here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho....php?t=1657056 - by Weltwon) work with 4.1.2 android version?
I have an other question: Is the root enough to remove the Samsung touchwizz layer? If yes, how to do it?
Thank you all for your answers!
Matthieu

Edit: I have an other question. Is the root enough to remove the Samsung touchwizz layer? If yes, how to do it?
Before you do any of this, check if your emmc is faulty or not by using a brickbug checker app from the play store.
(Requires root) f you want to stay on stock rom but its becoming laggy, trimming the storage would reduce lags. This is because native trim support didnt come until 4.3.
But if you want to move to the latest version of android, most roms posted under the unified section are stable except 7.1 which is still experimetal
--Rooting the tab--
You can use cf autoroot by chainfire but it requires a usb cable, a pc, and odin. Tutorials about this can be found on google. Just make sure you use the right package for our model.
You can also use one touch root apps such as kingroot or kingoroot but they contain bloatware.
And lastly, you can flash a custom recovery such as TWRP using odin and flash supersu from there.
Hope this helps
Thanks you Lightracer!
Do you have an emmc chercher app to advice?
I'm going to read a bit more about rooting ans flashing ROM.
I do not really care about running Samsung Stock ROM or not. My though was to run an Android Stock ROM, without any "layer" (touchwizz, ...), And if possible, the most up to date version.
Is it necessary to enable TRIM if I flash a Android Marshmallow or Nougat ROM ?

Just check "Emmc brickbug check" in the play store.
If you want the stockiest rom, check out the unlegacy project in the unified section. Its AOSP 4.4/5.1 /6.0/7.1 roms.
TRIM is enabled in most kernels. But if you have the emmc brickbug, it might kill your tab X(
Good luck! Also press thanks if I helped ^_^

Question Stock or Custom Rom?

Hello Members.
Im new in this Forum. My Name is Danny From Germany and i got a Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro in new for only 199$. After 2 Weeks of using, i really dont like the Xiaomi Stock Rom. It is full of bloatware and crappy ad´s. I followed some instructions and deactivated some of the Ads, but i still get some of them.
I already unlocked the bootloader 1 week ago, because i wanna install a Custom Rom and get rid of that data stealing nonsense crap of Xiaomi. But now im at a point, where i dont wanna make a mistake. My last time flashing is like 10 years ago on my Xperia Play.
I followed the Unlock instruction of this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...11-0-rom-and-root-xiaomi-poco-x3-pro.4267623/
I stopped at 2. Because i have seen, there is now Android 12, that orangefox doesnt work for OTA Updates and i dont get the part how to downgrade from MIUI Global 12.5.4.0 Stable. Or is there maybe a way that i can flash now directly without downgrading?
Could someone pls help me with the decision which custom rom is the right one for me and help me with downgrade it? I read the instruction theme complete, but the last comments were written a long time ago.
The most important things for me are battery life with a good performance and the decision which Apps i want. I would love to have the Playstore and Google Maps, but not the other google apps.
My Poco X3 pro is running AICP 16.1 (Custom ROM) and its working fine with Orangefox (R11.1_0 Stable). and OTAs (every friday) ... as i understand it, there is not spoken of Android 12 but of MUI12, what makes a difference
Thx for the answer. Do i Need to Downgrade MIUI or can i Just flash the Rom? How about Banking? This Phone is gonna be my Daily.

Banking apps working fine with magisk hide.
POCO x3 pro is great with custom roms.
Am using spark os and it's working fine for me.
The only thing you may miss is the xiaomi cmera app, but there is alot of alternatives.
Ich hoffe, dass ich dir geholfen habe.
I was in the same situation as you, it's my first Xiaomi, I advise you to flash a pixel experience rom, you'll feel like you've got a new phone, I flashed pixelextended

Banking apps work fine without Magisk or Magisk Hide. Root is not needed unless you want it for something else.
CrDroid 7/8 are working very well too.
Stable and banking apps are working (inkl. german DKB TAN2GO) !
MIUI CAM is included
Absolutely Custom ROM.
I use OrangeFox recovery on android 12, and no problem here for OTA or storage in recovery mode.
I'm using Latest CrDroid 8.1, just follow the instructions there, and you're good.
Magisk 24 is now working on Android 12 if I'm not mistaken, or you can use the Alpha one.
So far this is the best one for daily use, gaming, and other stuff for me.
Cheers

1- right now no custom recovery can decrypt internal storage, so no OTA update works (only manual via adb sideload in custom recovery)
2- you don't need to downgrade del 12.5.4.0 (that was the latest stable update when op publish his work)
3-twrp (3.6.0_11) is now a stable recovery for vayu.
4- arrow os 12 work great with out root (well, at least my banking apps), but if you need root, there is magisk hide or zygisk...
5- you can flash Vanilla version of custom roms +open gapps pico to have "google playstore" and then install only what you need.
6- battery life is always up to you and your use... there is no magical kernel to give out 87 hours of screen on time...

You can use dfe to keep dencrypt or move files to sdcard\usbotg to flash. If you have a compuer you can also use adb sideload. AOSP recovery should be able to install OTA update. Just flash the .img file in twrp\ofox to recovery partition.
Thanks i will try it tomorrow and give a Feedback.
How warm does your devices get? Mine gets very warm when charging it and even when im using it, it goes Up to 38,5 degrees. Is that normal??

Fast charge will heat up the phone.
Your room temperature will also need to be considered.
Wifi, LTE and video playing/moving gif will heat up the phone as well.
Follow this guide to update ROMs:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/4288121/post-85137963
Note that the dirty flash update of ROM in the tutorial only works with Android 11.
All custom recoveries cannot decrypt Android 12 at the moment, so you cannot see internal storage with custom recoveries on any encrypted Android 12 yet.
