Straight talk and Vulkan - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Ok. So I'm seriously considering upgrading to this phone from my old S5 through Straight talk. It says this device ships with Android M but the S7 is actually capable of Vulkan API support without having to update to Nougat (Straighttalk doesn't do firmware updates for some reason) Anyway, can anyone confirm or deny that the Straighttalk (Tracfone) Galaxy S7 supports Vulkan? Thanks in advance.

I just went ahead and bought this phone. The box says it runs Marshmallow but in Settings it says its running Android 7.0. So this phone SHOULD support Vulkan but I tried a couple of games (Hit and Need For Speed No Limits) and they look nothing like that Vulkan showcase video they released before the Galaxy S7 launched. As a matter of fact, the overall gaming performance is only marginally better than my rooted (no overclocking) S5. Can't say I'm not disappointed.

snapdragon brush strokes vs exynos

hi guys new to the forum ..im thinking of getting the note 12.2 and need to get an answer fairly quick as I need it soon..ive got the choice between the lte snapdragon and exynos..my main use of the tablet is sketching and painting..artrage has just been released for android so im fairly happy ..my partner has a note 3 neo and tried artrage and it wasn't bad ,but it had lag a lot of lag...out of the snap and exynos which would be better for my kind of use...if I go for wifi I can imagine easier to root than the lte....any help really appreciated
Snapdragon is more powerful, that's a given fact. The Exynos (p900) and the AT&T LTE (Only the AT&T, not the rest) versions also have serious blackscreen, screenflickering, reboot and bluescreen issues.
I never new about so many problems..so what version would you say to get ..im unsure what to do now..
I made the same consideration when I got mine. Given all the problems, and the fact that I needed a powerful tablet for my uses, I went with a P905 (the international LTE version) because it's more powerful and more stable.
If you can spare the extra cash, the LTE edition (Provided it's not the AT&T one) is the best option.
thx for the info..so p905 ill look for ..do the lte versions get the latest updates like the wifi ones..thats what Im worried about and also is it true they cant be rooted

Latest update for the P905 is from November.
Towelroot works properly on everything but the newest firmware out of the box. To root the newest you may need to temporarily load an older image of the kernel, but some also report success straight away. Or, if you don't care about the KNOX counter, you can use CF Autoroot.

I was wondering about z5....but so many people are compaling about that device. And I have had a z5 in my hand, and it took awfull photos (low light). I was breaking my s6's back panel, BUT I re purchased the s6 yesterday again. I have tried the 6.0 with it, and looks promising ( I love the manual camera shutter sped control).
come back. this is a cheap device already, ($300-350), and there is non better on the market what have this huge amount of features like s6 (with 6.0 )
Why would you go back to a device where your main issue is the OS? That's just wierd.
Get a Nexus if you want AOSP.
The CM13 you are referring to in your OP is a TEST build and should NOT be used as a daily driver. Bugs, things are broken / not working.
Sounds like you might wanna research some other phones / brands before jumping back to a device your not comfortable with IMO.

im asking what about new firmwares, have them fix major galaxy s6 issues like ram management?
Samsung will release the gs6' sourcecode after the marshmallow release. This will make the custom rom community much more effective. Looking forward
Edit @renolzSry: I meant kernel sourcecode

Link to this statement please? I only heard they will be releasing the kernel source code like they allways do.
Cheers!

Galaxy S7

I am planning to get SGS7, NOT Edge version. I kinda hate it actually. HEre is my question. Is bootloader unlocked ? Cause I can't live without my CM13. And if So May be you guys can recommend Snapdragon 820 based Phone that can run homebrew roms. Right now I am on OP2 and I simply can't handle it anymore after 5 minutes in any game phone slowing down to around 10 FPS, unplayable condition.
Thank you in advance.
The bootloader is currently not unlockable on the Snapdragon 820 version. On the Exynos version, root and (I think) TWRP is available, but definitely no CM support.
Bottom line, this isn't the device for you if you want CM13

Thank you very much for your answer. I also looking into upcoming HTC M10 and LG G5, what do you know / think of them ?
Thank you once again !
Check the Cyanogenmod website to see if your (future) device is supported by CM.
Currently the S7 (Edge) are not supported, but that's just a matter of time.
Galaxy S7 has so far the best camera ever Samsung has introduced. Being Water-resistant is an additional advantage for that people like it, awesome battery and Gear VR system as well. who use a costly phone like a crap.

Finding the right Phone

Good day
I’m hoping someone can steer me in the right direction for the right phone.
Up until 4 months ago I was happy camper with my Samsung Galaxy S3 rooted with Cyanogen-mod.
Then it died and not keeping up on the latest changes I went out and grabbed a SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 SM-G900A AT&T SW-VER G900AUCU3B0C4 - LP 5.0. Little did I know that they had locked it up tighter than a drum? Wow, with the software bloat and not being able to use CM on this thing is driving me nuts.
I’m with Cricket now and I guess that puts in with GSM. Though an unlocked NW phone that could handle both GSM and CDMA would be nice but not a must.
I’m looking for –
- 2 GB RAM
- 4.8 – 5.5 Display
- One you can root
- Customize with CM
- 16-32 Internal ROM
- MicroSD card support
- Cost under $250
Note - I really don’t use a Camera and I don’t play games on these
Unless someone can suggest something else I was look at these two straight from Motorola.
What do you all think –
MOTO G3 GSM (XT1540) AndroidTM Lollipop 5.1.1
MOTO G4 GSM/CDMA (XT1625) Android™ 6.0.1, Marshmallow
Thank you so much for your time and help.

You're welcome. I also asked them few days ago will S7 get 7 1.1 Nougat and they told me: "YES. BUT WE ARE NOT SURE WHEN". I hope that they will bring it with 7.1.1. Also they didn't say with what version will S7 get new UI. If I find out I will let you know.

Google is set to release the next iteration of its Android OS Android O on 21 August which is the day of the US total solar eclipse. While we are just a day away from the launch, most of the smartphone manufacturers are now gearing up to provide the new update to their recently launched smartphones. As such, one of the top brands Samsung is also preparing for the update and is looking forward to providing Android O for its smartphones with its Grace UI on top which will be better optimized to run the software smoothly. While the company has been a bit slow in providing updates, hopefully, this time Samsung rolls out the update at a much faster pace.
Looking at Nougat, Samsung got the first updates out to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in China and the UK 143 days after Google released Android 7.0. The update took a grand total of 180 days to reach US shores, landing first on T-Mobile, followed by AT&T the day after and Sprint two days after that. Verizon hobbled across the finish line a couple of weeks later. -- What the actual f(*)ck, samsung?!
you might be right, mate!
Good news for s7 users. But android O is really worst than android N reported by some forums due to less root capabilites and different system structure.
