thanks! for unlocked pixel, are there any more store? in addition to google stores
You can only buy unlocked versions directly from Google. Verizon Wireless and other physical stores only carry the locked version. Granted, it's not locked to Verizon's network, it just wasn't supposed to be able to be rooted. But we found a way around that!

Hi i'm travelling to the US next month and i want to buy a nexus 5. as i need to use it with my country carrier i need it unlocked.
now as far as i understand, i can't buy it from the play store as i dont have an US credit card (correct me if i'm wrong)
both the t-mobile and best buy support told me that their version of the nexus 5 ($450) are not really unlocked, but i've read a lot that in fact you can use that phones with whatever carrier you want. is that true? has anyone bought the t-mobile / bestbuy(sprint) versions and tried using another carrier SIM?
Thanks guys

I don't believe there are any carrier-locked N5s being sold in the US. You've checked that the US version of the phone supports the bands that are used in your country? BB will charge $100 more for the phone and likely try to sell you service, but you should be able to get it.

yes i checked and the 850/1900 bands are supported. both bestbuy and tmobile support told me that the phone is sold locked to the respective carriers, but i've read that that's actually not true and you can just swap with whatever SIM you have. Also i hope they dont try to force me to sign some plans if i buy the device
I am interested in this info also. I have a Nexus 5 showing up from Sprint and wondering if it will work with my T-Mobile SIM later if I decide to use it.

No Nexus 5 devices are sold locked. They are all unlocked and if anything you can test it right there in the store/parking lot to be sure.
The only problem however is LTE if you'll ever need that.

they just answered me this:
Hi , If you purchase the device from T-Mobile, it is locked and will only work with a T-Mobile SIM card. Once you've met the requirements, we can help you unlock the device. If you need one unlocked already, we recommend purchasing directly through Google. - Jess
The Sprint and T-Mobile Nexus 5's are unlocked. I have a Sprint one that I purchased at Best Buy and it works just fine with my T-Mobile sim card....2G, 3G, 4G, and LTE...

I got them to price match Google the day it came out, so I got it for $350. They may have smartened up to that by now though. The SIM came in the phone. I did not have to pay for the SIM or an activation fee. I didn't let them open the box at all.

i'm wondering if i can do this. it says in the BB website:
"If you find a lower price on a qualifying product at a local retail competitor's store or shipped from and sold by a designated major online retailer, we will match the price. At the time of purchase, we will match the current pre-tax price for new, identical, immediately available products from a local retail competitor's store or shipped from and sold by a designated major online retailers: Amazon.com, Apple.com, Bhphotovideo.com, Crutchfield.com, Dell.com, Frys.com, hhgregg.com, HP.com, HomeDepot.com, Lowes.com, Newegg.com, OfficeDepot.com, OfficeMax.com, Rakuten.com Shopping, Sears.com, Staples.com, Target.com, TigerDirect.com and Walmart.com."
it doesn't list google play as an allowed website.
i hope i get a cool seller lol
Thanks again!
Nexus 5's are not locked to any specific carrier. You just need to make sure that the bands are compatible with your carriers' frequency.
I bought my N5 off contract from BestBuy. It is unlocked. I am running mine on Simple Mobile. I only had to put my SIM in and program the APN for data access.

i'm trying to see if i can get Best buy to match the play store price
Since the Pixel in Google store is all sold out and will be delayed by 6 to 8 weeks, is anyone going to pick up the vzw one? I am tempted but its the bootloader that is unlockable swaying my way from vzw. Looks like I will be waiting 6 to 8 weeks......
I would have bought 2 from VZW, instead had to get them from Google because of the locked bootloader bs.

So they are saying it's impossible to break the bootloader?

It's way too soon to call it "impossible" -- but we definitely can't count on it, and I'm not risking my $800 phone being bootloader locked.
Work will pay for my phone only if I order through Verizon, so unless I can sell it NIB (which I don't know if I am allowed) and turn around and buy the Play Store version, I am pretty much stuck with a locked down phone. Here's hoping that an unofficial unlock happens at some point.
I have one on the way from VZW. Will be here in 2 days. I don't care that it's locked. Silver FTW.

Hmmm... I'm thinking the same.
I got my 128 in black before the preorder page officially launched, still said Oct 21-24. I work for vzw but there's no way I'd buy it thru them simply bc I want an unlocked bootloader!! But the vzw ones aren't shipping until later in the month as well...
Is the locked bootloader the only difference between the VZW and google store model? Well, only difference for now...we'll see when the first update comes.
Signed...still angry about my VZW Galaxy Nexus

Every Verizon phone I've owned came packed with Verizon bloatware. NFL Mobile, VZ Navigator and a whole bunch of other trash. I imagine the same will be true with their pixel.

Found this. Says it'll be VZ Messages, VZ, and Go90. I could live with that actually, but not going to matter since I switched to AT&T anyway

I was kind of in the same boat. On vzw. Was able to get $200 credit total for my M8 plus a free VR daydream. I'm a little griped I can't just buy the device protection from google but it only seems to be apply to phones purchased direct through their store. I'm ok with the lock bl because I'm not going to be running ROM variants on this particular. Root will be fine enough. So it was easier for me to make the choice to get it through vzw than google. If I don't like the phone, I can return and get another phone.
Just read that Verizon will control updates. That's a deal breaker for me. http://thenextweb.com/google/2016/10/07/verizon-google-pixel-update/#gref
Just wait... Verizon sucks!
I'm still torn. I preordered on VZW then heard that Verizon was going to control updates so I cancelled and ordered on Google. But now I'm hearing that WiFi calling won't work on the unlocked version on Verizon. And visual voice mail won't work either. So now I'm pretty torn which one I want. I don't need an unlocked bootloader, but do like the latest versions as soon as they're available.
According to Google support, WiFi calling will work on Verizon:
Thanks for writing in. Hope you're doing well!*
First, I'd like to take this*opportunity*to apologize for the delay in responding to your email.
I have checked with my product specialists and I'd like to inform you that,*all the Google devices have the *Wi-Fi calling option pre-installed. However, you just need to contact the Verizon support once you setup the device and they'll enable the service on your device. Once Verizon enable the services you can go ahead and make the Wi-Fi calls.
You can contact the carrier ( Verizon ) using the below contact details.
Verizon1-800-922-020424 hours/day, 7 days/week
Full service: 6:00 AM–11:00 PM Mon-Fri, 8:00 AM-9:00PM Sat-Sun

Just saw this article:
http://phandroid.com/2016/10/12/verizon-pixel-updates-simultaneously/
Basically, if you don't care about the locked bootloader, then you don't need to buy the phone from Google. You shouldn't have to worry about the updates and there are only 3 bloatware apps which take you less than 30 seconds to uninstall.
Hey guys, just had a couple quick questions I was hoping I'd be able to get a little feedback on here from other Pixel purchasers.
Ok, so back story: I recently bought a quite black Pixel for my wife from an eBay listing, which noted the device as "factory unlocked" and listed a SKU of "G-2PW4100-011-A" . The listing stated that Verizon was an incompatible carrier, and only AT&T and T-Mobile were compatible carriers. However, based on that SKU and some Google searching I found that that seems to be the exact Google Play Store Pixel version - so I contacted the seller and they confirmed this is the same version as Google sells on the play store. Great, so I purchased it. I also found in my searching that the "G-2PW4100-021-A" SKU would seem to be the Verizon Google Pixel variant.
Fast forward and I've received the item - and to my surprise the SKU reads "G-2PW4100-031-A". While it does boot up and seemingly activate LTE service on Verizon, and the bootloader unlock toggle is NOT greyed out, I also can't find any reference of this SKU anywhere online which kind of worries me. So, I'm wondering if others can chime in with what the SKU on their box says, and whether they got it from the Google Store, or Verizon. I'm just wanting to try to figure out what I'm missing here Many thanks!
Anyone? Anyone at all lol?
SKU: G-2PW4100-021-A, received today from Verizon (not a reseller, authorized agent, etc. -- direct from Verizon itself).
Mine is 128gb blk direct from Google store
G-2PW4100-012-A
I got my nephew the 32gb blk from google but would have to see if he could send me the sku.
I honestly wouldn't worry about it. If you installed a Verizon sim, it would have automatically installed verizon bloatware being verizon varient. If google, it wouldn't install the bloatware
Hi!
Thanks to VZW deals on Google Pixel, eBay is currently full of listing for brand new Pixels for less that $600. Most sellers claim phones to be factory sealed.
Question is: Can I buy this never opened Pixel and successfully activate and use overseas?
Thanks for your wisdom!

I didn't receive my Pixel yet, but I bought an unlocked device from google's website. I did talk to a seller on eBay who has many Verizon Pixel phones and he claim that they are unlocked. Another thing he mentioned that these phones may have Verizon's bloatware apps. So if phone you are trying to purchase is unlocked, then it should work, but check the GSM bands if they are compatible with your carrier.
All Pixel phones are unlocked (we're not talking bootloader unlocked) no matter where you get it from. But good point in checking GSM bands to see if it's compatible in your country and carrier. As for bloatware there are only 2 apps from VZW and you can delete them easily.
So, no need for first activation with vzw SIM or something like that?

No need. Just take it out if the box and put your sim in. I bought mine from best buy and it's technically for Verizon but I just took out the Verizon sim that was in it, put my T-Mobile sim in and booted it up.
If you plan on using it overseas I suggest you unlock the bootloader and flash the international system images.
Hello all,
I have been considering picking up a Pixel 3, the problem is I live in China. It means I cannot buy it from google directly. There are several places selling it online here in China, problem is I don't want to get stuck with the Verizon variant. Is there any way, other than actually looking at the phone information in settings, to tell which version it is? Does the Verizon variant have a Verizon logo on it or something similar?
Thanks
There is no Verizon logo or branding that is different. Unsure if there is any other easy way to check other than having the device and trying to unlock the bootloader. Verizon models have the option disabled.

Maybe you can look @ the built in settings.. use Google to search for verizon built number or Google built number.
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-219960/
If you have the phone in a box ususally a verizon built has 5 barcode stickers on the box, and Google only 4.
Another thing you can do is to look @ SKU on the box my phone is from google and it has GA00457-DE built.(DE means built for Germany).
The verizon google pixel has no branding at all and it's looking similar to the google pixel 3
Thanks for the responses, looks like I will just have to buy it and if it is a verizon version just send it back to the seller and complain. Will make sure if I buy it I get it from a place that accepts the return.
