Of all the released devices so far this year/end of last year, the Mate 8 is the only one that I might consider buy even tho the price is a bit too high for the performance (no 4k recording, only 1080p display and Kirin...).
The only thing holding me back is the lack of AOSP ROMs. Do you guys think there will be any ROMs close to vanilla or should I just wait for a better phone to be released?
display is one of THE best IPS displays around, u wont even notice that its 1080p. i know i dont
kirin 950 is on par with sd820 and exynos 8890, so...what about the performance? only area where its slower is graphics, thats it. cpu, ram, especially UI is on par if not better. lots of reports from users stating that mate 8 provides the smoothest day to day experience
also, what exactly do u hope to gain through an aosp rom? visually, u can change the stock roms to look like aosp, no problem. function range is also quite vast already at stock.
in the end, it always depends on whats really important to you:
mate 8 pros: brilliant display, super smooth UI, great sound, huge display size, looooong battery life
mate 8 cons: camera (according to other users, but i havent noticed anything bad), gpu performance (in benchmarks, still plays actual games smoothly)

If you are playing around with VR, then 1008p is not the best resolution, rockording in 1080p is not as good as recording in 4k when you play around with motion tracking..
I don't care about the performance, the Kirin don't seems to be as developer friendly as SoCs from Qualcomm.
I like stock sense it's not bloated... and I like to have my devices for as long as possible and I don't think Huawei will keep updating the Mate 8 so long, that's a big reason I wan't AOSP ROMs early so it seems like the device have a bigger chance to be updated to the newest version of Android in a couple of years from now.

Not too be rude or anything but did you give your awnser based on that this device probably won't get an AOSP ROM or did you not read my first post where I said that I can overlook tha 1080p screen and lack of 4k recording?

Simply look at the state of AOSP roms in the Mate 7 threads and there's your answer
Hi, I was wondering about how people are experiencing the performance with Nougat update. Based on my experience on S7edge & S7 (yes I have both ), the grace UX feels very smooth. Transitions / Animations are super smooth. Flipping the screen or scrolling has also been much smoother. One thing I noticed that the phone screen resolution on both my devices default to FHD (1080P) instead of WQHD (2K) with the official (I'm not a beta tester) Nougat update. The in game experience seems a bit smoother especially in Asphalt 8 / Extreme, Need for Speed No Limits & Assassin's Creed Identity. Don't need the feel to revert back to QHD as with Video enhancing feature turned on, the Video playback looks crisp & clear. Don't notice any big difference.
Feel free to share your Nougat specific performance experience.
Hey Guys,
I would like to ask you some questions about your experiences with the mate 9 (especially software experiences, performance .. ).
I actually use a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and I will upgrade my phone asap. I didnt waste any thought on getting a new Samsung Device like the S8+ or the note8, just because I hate Touchwiz and the laggs coming with it. Thats why I thought about getting the upcoming mate10 or the pixel 2 xl.
What i really like about the pixel 2 xl is the greeeaaat camera and the stock android experience. What i dont like about the pixel 2 xl is the design and the huge huge bezels.
Thats why i think about getting the mate 10 instead of the pixel 2 xl. But i'm a it afraid of getting a Huawei Device because of its Software.
How is EMUI on the Mate9? What about microlaggs? What about longevity, smoothness and functionality in comparison to touchwiz or to stock android?
I would be really grateful for a few opinions. Thank you very much, guys.
Kind Regards
I've had 3 Huawei phones. Mate 2, 8, 9
I don't use the default/stock launcher. I've always used Nova Launcher Prime.
I've had great experiences with all 3 phones. I got the 2 because of the large battery. Even for a snapdragon 400, 720p
phone it was very snappy. I bit slow on screen rotation, but, that didn't bother me.
Got the 8 because of the battery life of the 2. It was VERY fast. Not a bit of problems.
The 9 has been very good. Not one issue.
To some, not me, the only "glitch" is Huawei is not known for being very quick about updating the phone.
They may release, or leak a firmware update, but not for every regional version of the device.
For me, personally, doesn't really matter. Their stock firmware has been very clean, mostly bloat free, easy to
block/uninstall the little bloat, and very STABLE.
Some phones exhibit choppy scrolling, especially when navigating long web pages when multiple apps are running in the background. Rate this thread to express how you smooth scrolling feels on the Samsung Galaxy S9+ under such conditions. A higher rating indicates that scrolling is always buttery smooth, even when you're reading a 10,000 word article on "how to kiss a girl".
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Well I guess I'll be the first to reply. I am not experiencing buttery scrolling! The Facebook app which is built into the UI stutters and hiccups constantly. Scrolling through web pages on Chrome is not buttery smooth in the slightest. Did I get a bad unit or is there anything that I can do to assist in smoothing my scrolling? I'm coming from an iPhone 7 plus and never had issues like this!
Haven't used the Facebook app but I find chrome to be smooth. Try going to chrome://flags and enabling smooth scrolling to see if that helps.
In my experience, chrome always ran like garbage on Samsung phones. This is the first time I can say that's no longer the case! (My last one was s7).
have not found any problems yet on scrolling its buttery smooth

I would say the same, it's fast and fluid and scrolling is smooth for me without any jitter, hope this remains :good:
Samsung is known to jitter and lag. It can never be as smooth as a pixel
I used the SM-G-965F model for about a month and then switched to the SM G-9650 model available locally. No issues with smoothness with either of them but G-9650 is little faster at everything.

...is that an experience feedback from someone who runs the S9+ or just a prejudice? Naming the brand Samsung only means throwing a J3, A5, S9, S9+ in the same pot and compare these to a Pixel? What a confusing world this is
Let's continue with a fact: I do own a S9+ for 3 months now. I packed it full with apps and didn't experience lags yet. Hope it stays this way, it's really a high performance phone to me. But what do I know...? :good:
Hello, there's few apps that aren't optimized yet, or will never be, but especially for Twitter it's annoying, it was perfectly smooth on my S20+.
How to fix this ?

Contact Twitter and give your feedback. When it comes to apps, Samsung has no control over that.
I have noticed a slight lag also in Twitter but I've now gotten used to it and don't notice it as much.
I'm not noticing any lag or delay scrolling around in Twitter at all, it is smooth smooth scrolling fast or slow and Twitter is my most used app. Maybe I just don't see it? Try closing your background apps for a bit to see it one of them is sucking your cycles? I'm using FHD+ and adaptive scrolling and vivid. I have S22U1 SD version.
I have the same problem (Exynos version), most social network apps (official apps) with long lists have this problem.
Not sure if I should wait for an hypothetical fix from an update or go back to my previous phone (if it can't be fixed), it really feels like I'm using a cheap $300 device...

Exactly, I have the same feeling, so I guess it's only on Exynos version, feel like a very cheap device. No good experience, but I've already sent back my S20+ which was super smooth. So anyone have a solution or I should switch to iPhone for real...
I installed the new u1 update today. I immediately noticed that Twitter had no more lag. I am glad to see that. I have an AT&t branded s22 ultra that is on the u1 firmware.

Twitter lag still here on U firmware after the update
Twitter has never been really smooth but on the S22 Ultra it’s hopeless. With S21 it’s okay but not great either.
Tried different versions of twitter and disabled/enable Android webview but without luck. Best way is to use it in the webbrowser.
S22’s overall smoothness isn’t great and it’s not on par with S21. It really needs some fixing.

Try factory reset. It was laggy for me as well (Smart Switch?) but now the experience, benchmarks and battery got so much better)
I tried to factory reset, but nothing changed (I've only installed Twitter to check). I tried a lot of things recommended in this forum about performances, but nothing worked.
I spent a lot of time disabling things to get a smoother experience, but I shouldn't have to that with a high-end device. I haven't used an Android device as a daily driver since a long time, but from what I remember even middle-end devices didn't have these problems.
I really like the Note experience but it seems like I'm using an old phone lacking in term of performances due to being an old phone.
I believe Twitter lag is connected with exynos soc somehow. I have a pixel 6 pro (tensor chip is based on exynos) with oppo find x3 pro (Snapdragon 888) pixel have a huge lag while oppo flies. Before pixel I have s22 ultra exynos version which I did send it back because of performance issues. I will upload a video side by side comparison today with 1080p60hz to show it.
Edit: Here is the video SD 888 vs exynos Twitter lag

Yeah, I think it's something to do with the Exynos. My Sd888 Zfold3 scrolls fine on Twitter but my s22u and P6P were both a mess and stuttering etc.
Installed Twitter app on my new Galaxy A73 5G it's super laggy. Work perfectly on OnePlus 7T but laggy while scrolling on A73.

I purchased my S22 Ultra yesterday and the twitter scrolling lag has really given me bad first impressions. Literally my Pixel 2 XL ran twitter smoother.
PS: I am using the Snapdragon model, not even Exynos model here.
Samsung must really hate Twitter? LoL!
I have the same problem on my SD version. However, it's happening on Facebook not Twitter!
