SMBv2 or SMBv3 server app - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I'm looking for a SMB server that can at least use v2. Because Windows 10 doesn't support v1 anymore. So far, I didn’t find anything about it on the web.
Does anyone know a good SMB server app, that support v2 or v3? Or what would be a good alternative to SMB?
Sincerely Veggie

Any luck?
v1 is too vulnerable but seems all the SMB servers on play store are old & neglected.

Total Commander offers an SMB v2 LAN plugin for free. Works well, though the Total Commander interface leaves much to be desired.

X-plore File Manager works with SMB v2. It's an odd looking explorer, but works.
XDA's MiXplorer does not, unless you add the $1.90 SMB 2 add-on.
I've tested and verified that MiXplorer does not work without the add-on, and that X-plore does work on SMB2. I have not tested the premium MiXplorer add-on.

Gtab and NAS server

Try UPnPlay, free on the market.
Cifs manager from the market. Mount all your network shares to your tab and they can be accessed as if they were local.
Depends on what you are trying to do, and how your NAS is configured...
If you have DLNA / UPnP turned on your NAS, and you want to access Videos, then use UPnPlay as suggested...For Music there are a tonne of apps...
If you want to use straight CIFS (SMB) then you can use CIFS Manager from the Market as long as the kernel you are using supports it and the module is loaded. I think Vegan GB does -- so you should be fine there...
With CIFS Manager, it's just a straight mapped drive like you'd get in Windows. So you'll use a File Manager app (like ES File Explorer, or Astro) to browser to the folder, select the file to execute and you should get a popup asking which app you want to use to open...
If you want to use NFS or FTP on your NAS, then really all you need is a File Manager (again, Astro or ES File Manager)
Play around and see what you prefer...
I has a DNS 321
I have a DNS 321, which is basically the same device/sw. I create CIFS shares from the NAS and then use ES File Explorer to access the NAS. Works fine.
I also have the DNS-321 I use File expert with the SMB add on and it works great, just add the IP of the NAS and sign anonamously and browse away, play videos and music.
When I am away from home I have VNC server on my home system, and VNC viewer on the tablet, works pretty good, and I can get to the NAS that way also. I use TNT 4.25 with Clemsyns kernel.

[Q] File manager that can explore LAN

I am trying to find a file manager that can see the contents of other machines on my Windows network using SMB. I can't get Astro's SMB extension to work ....force close. ES File Explorer somewhat works but is very slow and not really useable. I have tried about half a dozen others and these are no better. Any recommendations on what does work will.
I am using Tiamat Manta Ray 2.0.1.
Thank you Gordon.

I also recommend this. I hooked up with my Home server and use it to transfer video files & comics over wifi. recommend
Thanks for the suggestions. The only one that seems to work smoothly for me is Ghost Commander. The only limitation that I have found with it so far is that I can't view the contents of files that reside on networked machines. I have to copy to the Xoom and then view locally.
Maybe the difficulties that I have found with other apps is a result of using Tiamat Manta Ray 2.0.1.
Thank you
Gordon
Have u tried ANDSMB it works fine for me, I can see all shared and public folders in my all computers in the house

[Q] Stream PC music through Poweramp over wifi/3g?

Hi there,
I'm looking for an application whereby I can assess music on my pc wirelessly and browse/play them within Poweramp. I have seen applications that can sync the music within their own interface, or download the tracks but I wish to stream them over wifi/3g.
I can see that ES File Explorer may allow to browse my pc via ftp, I haven't tried this as of yet, but essentially I want to be able to see my pc music folder on my phone within poweramp (my preferred music player) and stream them as opposed to sync/download.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi,
Currently to remotely access (in 3g as well WiFi) to my server to see my personal media (pics, music, video...but streaming video depends on your bandwidth) I use several apps but all of them use it's own media player so no way to pass music to PowerAmp..
They are:
Tonido
Plex
Qloud Media
You can try to access your Pc trough Samba share (\\servername\musicfolder) but not a really a wise idea if you care about the security of your pc...
Never tried by myself but should work:
Prerequisite (without this you will not be able to use this method)
Your kernel MUST support cifs (modules called cifs.ko).If you are on stock Rom/kernel... No way, if you are on a custom one it depend on the dev that have developed the kernel, try to find it out ( XDA is a good way )
Share your music folder(restrict acces to only one user avoid EVERYONE)
On your router redirect Samba(also known as cifs, smb or windows share) tcip port to your server intranet Ip (local ip of your server usually 192.168.xxx.xxx)
Install from the market an app to mount cifs share on your android phone (I use CIFS Manager, remember to configure it, it does not work out of the box)
Add your music share to CIFS Manager (you must know your Public Ip and, if it is not static, every time you have to know the new Ip your ISP assigned to you)
Using any File browser go to /mnt/cifs/ and you'll find the share you have just created
Browse it and you should be able to access to your music library, as well all the file of your Pc.
Not using this method or PowerAmp not sure if you'll be able to stream music or only to download it.
To be honest I wold not expose my Pc to Internet in this way.... Windows security is not so strong... Anyway It's up to you.
Hope this will work, as I never tested it,and hope will help you.
Thank you for the detailed response there, I'll look into it!
You're wellcome
I'm using " AUDIOGALAXY " it's free !!!!!
Interface sux, but wotdayagonnado !

or apply and setup a dyndns or no-ip account
Hi pratetorious,
I do also use Dyndns services, quite all new router have built in the client to do it, but not sure that CIFS manager support HOSTNAME rather than simple IP, never tested it.
It could work anyway, but not sure about it

I think that for that purpose you need a file browser that support FTP access. You can try es file explorer or astro

Recommend you two players, VLCplayer and VidOn player, they can meet your requirements. Hope to help you.
Take a look at Avia. I'm pretty sure it fits all of the above. It's really good regardless.
