TurboPower mod requires update? - Moto Z Accessories

Just got the TurboPower Moto Mod that has 3490 mAh, and has it's own charge port.
Connect to phone and it says "Phone update required - your Moto Mod won't work without the latest phone software."
??
I am on Android 7.0. I have not read anything that says a newer version is required. I don't really want to update to 7.1 (don't care for the icons, for one thing, and last upgrade was a hassle). I am rooted.
Any ideas??
UPDATE: Now my Incipio Moto Mod gives me the same error when I attach it, where yesterday it was working fine. Crap!

I had the same problem a few days ago I bought Moto Z and I had an android 6 and it did not show me a newer update so my TurboPower did not want to work. I entered the Google Play Store and updated existing applications that did not update automatically and one of the systems that did not have an icon in the launcher unlocked me updating the android. I now have android 7.1.1 and full working turbo baterry mod
Sorry my english. Translator.

Was the moto mod platform updated to 1.6 using just the Google play store app? Planning to get a moto z with the turbopower instead of the incipio case and I need to know this...

No, it's far more than just the app itself.
The newer Mod Manager should be available in the latest stock 7.1.1 but it's also implemented into custom roms, even Oreo ones.

Alright guess I'm getting this phone then. There are no problems flashing from official nougat right? Aside from incompatibility with downgrading to marshmallow?

Well, we got to custom Oreo roms by flashing them over 7.1 based ones.
You just need the latest TWRP and you can flash both 7.1.1 roms and Oreo roms in any order you like ( you can freely downgrade from an Oreo custom rom to a stock /custom 7.1 one but I doubt you'll want to do that ) .

Awesome news thanks. Found an incipio off grid locally but costs around 90 us dollars converted... Close to 100 actually. Would rather go directly to the turbopower since it's supported anyway.

So the TurboPower Pack will only work if you are on 7.1.1? I am on 7.0, Moto Mod app is updated, but TuboPower Pack says "Phone update required. Your Moto Mod won't work without the latest phone software. Check for update.”When I click that, it says "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later” Unable to determine which update it is talking about.

I believe it's a bit of chicken and eggs. I think the latest Moto Mod app requires 7.1.1, so you're not seeing the latest version because you're still on 7.1.1. Update to 7.1.1 and then you should be able to update the Moto Mod app.

No Lollipop for India (XT1033)?

If you look at the software update news page of Motorola, and scroll down to where you purchased the device, the dual-sim Indian version of Moto G isn't listed.
We're probably not going to get an early update for our XT1033 devices.

don't worry. when you have a look at the other providers like t-mobile or verizon etc, the xt1032 (single sim) doesn't appear either. it is probably the case, that motorola just haven't added the devices in the provider list, but i am sure that everybody can still enjoy android lollipop when it gets released

Xperia XZ F8331 - Is it possible to enable the fingerprint reader after Nougat OTA?

Hey, this is my first post and I'm inexperienced with Android tinkering so I apologize if I've broken any rules. I searched but would like clarification as Nougat has changed things.
Is there any way to enable the fingerprint reader after the Nougat OTA for the US version of the XZ F8331?
I mistakenly didn't realize Nougat had changed things and unwittingly soft bricked my XZ the other day but managed to unbrick it and really want to avoid bricking it again.
It seems that downgrading to Marshmallow via flashtool is possible? so maybe it could be possible to downgrade to the UK Marshmallow and then get the UK Nougat OTA and then get the fingerprint reader to function that way?
Any rom you use that isn't the US rom will allow fingerprint to work.
Right, but flashtool isn't compatible with Nougat yet. I just got the idea of using Emma though, will look into it more soon
Yeah, you can just flash an MM rom and update to Nougat via OTA.
EMMA will only work with devices with unlocked bootloaders.
You are correct in your first thought. Just flash a UK FTF for MM and get the OTA Nougat update.
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the Customized UK MM FTF seems to be no longer available from XperiFirm and I haven't had any luck trying to find it elsewhere.
How much does the Market/Operator matter? Maybe a customized MM FTF from another region is better? Anything I should be worried about?

Not really. Only a bit of bloatware, everything else is about the same.
You may be able to find an older FTF from here though
Thanks again! There is a Customized UK FTF for MM on the site you linked but it can't be downloaded for free unfortunately.

I am wondering the same - new F8331 on N OTA and enabling the fingerprint reader. Any luck on your end figuring this out?
I've been running customized NOBA in my Z5 for a while here in the US and have been very happy with it. Customized NOBA for the XZ still hasn't been updated to Nougat, so that could be an option. I don't get to unwrap my XZ until Christmas, so I've already downloaded the MM version currently on Xperifirm to re-enable my fingerprint sensor first.
I like customized NOBA because it has bloatware you can completely uninstall.
You should be able to google the central europe firmware (marshmallow) and use that. I just fixed 2 XZs yesterday after banging my head against the wall over the firmware.
Update to marshmallow using flashtool and then OTA update to nougat. Central Europe works perfectly and I get the LTE symbol (some people hated the 4G symbol even though it's the same). Finger print scanner works (both phones are US versions from Amazon).
Help me please

My experience till now:
Phone seems to be a lot smoother and heat build up seems to be less while gaming (I play Mortal Kombat X very often).
Cannot comment on battery as of now as its not even 24hrs since the update has been installed.
If anyone has any question, then do let me know.
Great. Even Moto Z play nougat update is coming in few days
Seems like getting better battery backup as comapred to Marshmallow.
I am at 37% remaning battery after 24hrs with 1hr 11mins SOT.

Did you get the Nougat update till now?
What mods are you using with the phone?
I updated manually with the ota zip few weeks back.. I didn't buy any mods yet..
Since I read that the new OTA update (which comes with Nougat upgradation too) also updates the bootloader - in the US Verizon (locked) versions of the phone. As a consequence of which the users are unable to unlock the new bootloader at USA.
My question is - since we already have an unlockable bootloader, will the new Nougat update make the bootloader UN-"unlockable"?
This is very important for me since I am looking forward for a stable official ROM (CM 14.1 based) with root support.
Thanks in advance.
PS: I know that Android 6.0.1 with July 1 patch is the most stable android OS till date. Can anyone compare the latest OTA with this?

lol... Your inexperience is showing here. The Moto X getting Nougat has nothing to do with Android O, we will get it within the next few months but it will likely be our last upgrade.
Other newer Moto devices will get O, probably towards the end of the year or early next year.
If you want consistent, regular updates and constantly be on the latest and greatest then buy a Pixel. End of story, nothing else will get you better.

What are you talking about? There are literally dozens of Nougat ROMs in the forums. I am currently running Resurrection Remix and their ROM is pretty stable on 7.1.1. I haven't had any issues with it and it's super smooth and fast. Try it!

I somewhat agree with you. Am on latest Lineage build with boot.img fix and everything is working fine.
But you can't argue against, "Stock Moto is best Moto."
Moto's stock ROM usually have best performance and battery life.
P.S: They improved battery life in Soak Test. There's very little battery drain when phone is idle. Also the phone doesn't get heat up much when multitasking.
Unified reply:
The third party ROM does not have Moto's unique features, power consumption and instability.

Oh, it will get Android O, and probably P, maybe even Q too... But not officially or from Moto. Look at the Moto G (original one) it is 3 or close to 4 years old, and it is still supported by developers, you can get Nougat on it and will likely get O as well.
And why should Moto continue to support it? This phone is a getting close to 2 years old, there is no logical reason for Moto to continue supporting a platform that is getting beyond it's normal life cycle.

Keep dreaming if you think that'll happen. 7.1.1 is already out for many devices not to mention O aka Oreo for Nexus devices. Lenovo/Motorola is garbage and we all know this. That's why we all stop supporting these two garbage companies so they can go out of business.

You know what I think Lenovo is never going the moto x android N in non US countries it is apparently out in Latin America
But If you want the rom just install Lineage OS they have a decent battery life for a custom and the device runs perfectly fine no bugs no lag nothing

No need to root the stock rom if you're just going to wipe it and flash a custom rom. The steps you need to follow are:
1) Unlock bootloader if not already done (note unlocking will automatically wipe the device, so backup files appropriately first)
2) Use fastboot to flash TWRP
3) Make a full backup in TWRP (don't skip this step as it can save you a lot of trouble if things go wrong)
4) Wipe and flash your custom rom. Flash gapps before booting in to the new rom too if you want Play store, etc.
5) Some roms aren't pre-rooted any more. If you want root, I recommend Magisk.
Details on how to do all this are spelled out step by step in Heisenberg's guide. Just do not root using the method in there. As I mentioned above, you don't have to root the stock rom just to replace it with a custom. However, if you feel the need to root the stock rom just flash Magisk. Don't flash that custom boot image it links to; that was a hack from the early days of systemless root that we no longer need.
Back when i was messing around with my Moto X Pure...i tried all the Mm roms at the time. Always found stock rom the smoothest and best battery life and most to my liking. A year or so later....it still has amazing battery life and nearly 2 days of standby time. It even outperforms my LG V10 even after replacing the battery.
And Android 8.0 is Octopus...apparently... not Oreo.....the dev preview build that is out has an Octopus logo thing in it now.

Moto X Style Android 7.0 Nougat update, build NPH25.200-15 (Brazil) (Download Link)

Motorola is finally pushing out the long overdue Nougat update to the 2015’s Moto X Style. The update seems to be rolling out only in Brazil currently. But it should hit other markets very soon now that the process has begun.
Arriving with the build NPH25.200-15, the update installs the Android 7.0 Nougat on Moto X Style alongside the May Android security patch. Besides, the update also installs the Google Duo video calling app on the smartphone.
On top of that, you’ll also get some stability and performance improvements with the new update. Since it’s a big update, expect it to weigh high in terms of memory. So, ensure you are hooked to a stable Wi-Fi network to avoid additional data charges.
Also, try to maintain at least 60% of battery life on your phone before installing the update.
With the update installed, users get access to all the Nougat features which include enhanced Doze mode, revamped notification shade and Quick Settings menu, and of course, the multi-window split-screen mode among other features.

No... This is an OTA zip file, not a factory image. To flash this you must be on a stock RETLA device, on the latest RETLA marshmallow firmware, and use adb sideload in recovery or apply update from sd card to flash.
This is not a generic or universal update, it is very specific to a certain device AND software version, everything must match to apply (boot/system/radios)

Can't... we don't have it yet.
We do not have full Nougat firmware images for any MXPE or Style, and don't anticipate seeing those for months.
Currently only TWO variants have Nougat OTA, the Retail Latin America (Brazil) Dual Sim model and Retail European Union Single SIM that was on 6.0.1 firmware previously.
That is it, no other variants have the Nougat update *yet* (as of this posting).
You can try to mess with the various TWRP backups that are floating around here (no, I cannot point you to them) or wait until your variant gets it as an OTA.
can we flash brazil OTA on a x style xt1572 EU with MM 6.0 MPHS 24 49.18.16 .if yes it required unlocked bootloader ?
On the Moto G4 / G4 Plus, the Nougat update file was identical for all models of phones. The radio and identification of the phones where updated accordingly with each phone capabilities.
I would not recommend this on a phone with locked bootloader, just because you can't make backups before.
Note that upgrading to Nougat upgrades the bootloader and most likely you can't go back to MM bootloader and also the rooting of Nougat requires a custom Kernel. So be careful what you wish for.

So the XT1575 works but it seems only on GSM? That doesn't sound like a super bad deal, though for the CDMA network it might just need a refresh from the company or a new SIM possibly. Thanks for the info!
