No Lollipop for India (XT1033)? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If you look at the software update news page of Motorola, and scroll down to where you purchased the device, the dual-sim Indian version of Moto G isn't listed.
We're probably not going to get an early update for our XT1033 devices.

don't worry. when you have a look at the other providers like t-mobile or verizon etc, the xt1032 (single sim) doesn't appear either. it is probably the case, that motorola just haven't added the devices in the provider list, but i am sure that everybody can still enjoy android lollipop when it gets released

its confirmed already dude you must go to country option in site and select india you can find the info . check out this link https://motorola-mobility-en-in.custhelp.com/app/software-upgrade-news/g_id/2014#gs=eyJndWlkZUlEIjoyMDE0LCJxdWVzdGlvbklEIjoxLCJyZXNwb25zZUlEIjoxOSwiZ3VpZGVTZXNzaW9uIjoiSHprV3R0NW0iLCJzZXNzaW9uSUQiOiJIemtXdHQ1bSJ9

when you select Retail from the dropdown menu,
you will get this message
"This device will be upgraded to the Android 5 Lollipop release of Android, pending partner support."

Soak tests for xt1033 have already started and we will get the update by the end of november or December first week.

sorry if this is a stupid question, but if i've already unlocked the bootloader, and installed root and recovery but i didnt change/modify the original ROM 4.4.4 from my moto G, to get the lolipop update, i just need to install the original "stock" recovery or i will need to flash everything (firmware/radio/originalrom, etc) again? thanks

haven't got 4.4.4 yet

hey there, as u can see in title I haven't got 4.4.4 yet i have the 210.12.32.falcon_umts.Retail.en.US version. I live in Ireland, have they stop releasing 4.4.4 now ?
Some guys say that making root the update fails, and your version 4.4.4 was the first to be released

i got the same problem... it say my phone its already updated.
I am rooted on 4.4.3, i have a few motorola stock apps disabled (contextual services, assist, migrate) do i have to unroot to get update ?

It looks like you have the Global American GSM version of the phone. From what I can tell, they haven't been updated as of today. USA AWS and USA Global GSM Moto G are still running 4.4.3. Only the CDMA versions are running 4.4.4 in the US. Maybe if you flash the European ROM you'll get the 4.4.4 update.
- Bad news American Moto G owners. Motorola is pulling back from the US market and focusing on India, at this point don't be surprised if you never see Android L on your device. I'm still running 4.4.3. I've heard from other Moto G users running 4.4.4 did not fix any of issues previously reported.
What are the issues specifically? XT1034 Retail Canada has had 4.4.4 - I expect US to follow.
I had to shut off my OTA because I really am not ready for 4.4.4. I have the XT1045 and US version, and it is rooted. So I am not sure why some of you who are rooted are not getting the updates. That is very interesting indeed. Does Motorola have a bigger market in India vs anywhere else for them to concentrate on the India upgrades to 4.4.4?

nah I'll stay as I am, maybe its getting to everywhere first before the American gsm, I'm just going to wait, maybe they will stop 4.4.4 update and when android L comes out we can update straight to it first who knows, we shall wait and see
Today i get the 4.4.4 update.

So, I'm guessing that is the Global GSM US, so you'll be able to install the update soon. :highfive:

- Motorola said recently that they are releasing Android L for Moto G (Gen2) devices in India, nothing about first Gen Moto G or Android L outside of India.
Umm weird. I got a notification saying system update so I go to settings>about phone > system updates and it closes straight away. What's going on ?
Current Device : Moto G XT1032
Opps never mind its working now. I can now update to 4.4.4
Current Device : Moto G XT1032
Finally!!!
Finally, we get 4.4.4 after being stuck on 4.4.3 since June, July. I guess they forget about the Global version for a while or they are preparing us for lollipop.

[Q] lollipop upgrade on the xt1033

i have the original moto g (xt1033) which is the dual sim variant.
but i have the xt1032 gpe image installed on it.
someone told me when the OTA comes out for lollipop and when i update my phone. the update might brick it. is there any chance of that happening?
Well your phone thinks that it's the xt1032, I wouldn't take the chance of flashing the XT1032 bootloader and bricking it. I'm in the same position as you right now, what I'm going to do is wait for the lollipop update to become a flashable .zip so i don't need to run OTA and flash the new bootloader which would make downgrading and unbricking impossible until it releases on XT1033... whereas a zip flashed in recovery would be pain-free and safe if you're already converted to xt1032, you know that atleast, I'm hoping, cause all single sim roms ontop of converted GPE xt1033 run the sim fine, but the OTA including bootloader is the bad part.
tl;dr: DONT install the OTA update, wait for a flashable zip and flash it over your converted setup or you risk bricking from new bootloader

[Q] How to install Lollipop in Motorola G first gen?!

Hi, I've a first generation Motorola G, and when I go to the Update settings there is no updates, so I think to install Lollipop manually. I've tried with Cyanogenmod, but there isn't a version for my device, so... what would I do?!

Hi,
when you get your update depends on your region and carrier, so maybe it just takes a bit patience If you don't want to wait and don't have a dual sim device you find the recent CM-version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/orig-development/rom-official-cyanogenmod-12-nightly-t2994749 and additionally you could think about flashing the OTA (there are various threads in the General-section).

Virgin Mobile Marshmallow Update

Hey guys, do you know anything about the marshmallow update for Virgin mobile Moto G's?

Apparently, the Virgin Mobile Varient of the Moto G 2015 ota is now being rolled out in Canada. This means soon for us US peeps! Source: http://mobilesyrup.com/2016/01/16/moto-g-3rd-gen-update-to-marshmallow-now-available-in-canada/

Unfortunately, no it doesn't. Virgin Canada is not associated with Virgin Mobile USA in any way. Virgin Canada is a completely different company and actually uses gsm phones, not the cdma phones used on VM USA. For what it's worth, VM USA is not known for rolling out updates, timely or otherwise.
It seems the only way to update the software to Marshmallow is to buy an unlocked version of the device (as I have seen 6.0 on the unlocked device at a Best Buy demo) , or unlock the Virgin Mobile one you already have. Otherwise, I think Virgin is never going to release an OTA for the update.

I thought the Virgin Mobile version was not eligible for bootloader unlocking on Moto's site? There is no other known way to bootloader unlock the device. And an unlocked version (ie. full retail version) would not be CDMA since Moto did not sell those directly or through a 3rd party like Amazon, only carriers, so it wouldn't work on VM anyway. Not to call you a liar but I don't think you were looking at a Virgin Mobile device...

No you're right - What I meant to say is that the version of the phone I saw with 6.0 was an unlocked one - not one from VM. I do not think (as hopeful as I am, still) that VM is ever going to release an update to 6.0 - They usually just release phones with the OS it comes with and that's all you get.
So is there anyway to get Marshmallow or not?9
Soak test underway begun end of April so hopefully in next few weeks

I'm on virgin mobile, with my moto g3.
I got my boot loader unlocked and TWRP along with xposed. All that works great. But everytime I go and try a custom rom I have to revert to the TWRP backup. And that works fantastic. Just takes it time.
I'd really like a mm rom for this guy. This stock rom sucks the big one.

I have the CM13 nightly flashed to mine. What do you mean you have to revert to the TWRP back up? What isn't working? The only major issue I had was the APN settings which is easily fixed.

Flash LTE fix.

I have a TWRP backup should I make a nandorid? And I'm using the virgin mobile 5.1.1 xt1548 Motorola Moto G 3rd generation. Stock rom custom kernel.
It is here and it is NOT working for me. After re-flashing original recovery and riding of TWRP it loads maybe 15% and hits me with an error. No error code just the animation for a split second and it reboots.
I'm not sure if anyone has any info. The virgin mobile moto g was just it's updated to marshmallow. I'm
wondering if there's any root yet?

Moto X Style Android 7.0 Nougat update, build NPH25.200-15 (Brazil) (Download Link)

Motorola is finally pushing out the long overdue Nougat update to the 2015’s Moto X Style. The update seems to be rolling out only in Brazil currently. But it should hit other markets very soon now that the process has begun.
Arriving with the build NPH25.200-15, the update installs the Android 7.0 Nougat on Moto X Style alongside the May Android security patch. Besides, the update also installs the Google Duo video calling app on the smartphone.
On top of that, you’ll also get some stability and performance improvements with the new update. Since it’s a big update, expect it to weigh high in terms of memory. So, ensure you are hooked to a stable Wi-Fi network to avoid additional data charges.
Also, try to maintain at least 60% of battery life on your phone before installing the update.
With the update installed, users get access to all the Nougat features which include enhanced Doze mode, revamped notification shade and Quick Settings menu, and of course, the multi-window split-screen mode among other features.
Download Moto X Style/Moto X pure edition official Android 7.0 Nougat NPH25.200-15 update:

No... This is an OTA zip file, not a factory image. To flash this you must be on a stock RETLA device, on the latest RETLA marshmallow firmware, and use adb sideload in recovery or apply update from sd card to flash.
This is not a generic or universal update, it is very specific to a certain device AND software version, everything must match to apply (boot/system/radios)

Can't... we don't have it yet.
We do not have full Nougat firmware images for any MXPE or Style, and don't anticipate seeing those for months.
Currently only TWO variants have Nougat OTA, the Retail Latin America (Brazil) Dual Sim model and Retail European Union Single SIM that was on 6.0.1 firmware previously.
That is it, no other variants have the Nougat update *yet* (as of this posting).
You can try to mess with the various TWRP backups that are floating around here (no, I cannot point you to them) or wait until your variant gets it as an OTA.
can we flash brazil OTA on a x style xt1572 EU with MM 6.0 MPHS 24 49.18.16 .if yes it required unlocked bootloader ?
On the Moto G4 / G4 Plus, the Nougat update file was identical for all models of phones. The radio and identification of the phones where updated accordingly with each phone capabilities.
I would not recommend this on a phone with locked bootloader, just because you can't make backups before.
Note that upgrading to Nougat upgrades the bootloader and most likely you can't go back to MM bootloader and also the rooting of Nougat requires a custom Kernel. So be careful what you wish for.
Can someone with this Nougat version try GPS test or Androits GPS test and see if the gps is fixing position Ok?

So the XT1575 works but it seems only on GSM? That doesn't sound like a super bad deal, though for the CDMA network it might just need a refresh from the company or a new SIM possibly. Thanks for the info!
