Always on display - Dim - HTC U11+ Questions & Answers

Hello guys,
I just have a question about the htc u11+. I have activated the always on display, but almost all of the times the AOD is very dim with very little brightness. Is there a way to fix this or that's the AOD of an LCD panel?
Thanks

I think that HTC will fix this whit an update.

Are you using max brightness? I wonder if third party AOD apps can act better...

I agree completely. AOD is really weak and dim. On a related matter, am I missing something or does this phone not turn the display on when you get a notification of some sort? That being email, text, whatsapp, etc... I checked every setting and the only thing it does is the led notification and vibration.
Can someone shed a light to this?
Thanks

[Q] Using AcDisplay or Ambient Display?

How many of you guys are using AcDisplay over the Ambient Display ported over in some Lollipop ROMs?
What is your take on each?
Which do you prefer?

That's a good comparison. But ambient display isn't completely functional yet. Like when picking up the device the screen doesn't show your notifications like acdisplay does.
As it is now, ambient display does absolutly nothing usefull. I like the Acdisplay when it turn on the screen automatically after pull up from pocket, but sometimes nexus is in top of a table and screen keep going on and off with the lights from outside. I often use Peek, but unfortunetly it only work some seconds after receiving the notification.

Lockscreen is dim when notifs pop up

Is it normal in Lollipop that when the notifications pop up on the Lockscreen and the screen turns on that the screen is very dim (hard to see anything) and then brightens up when you touch the screen?
I just wanna see if that's normal or if it's happening because of some apps like LUX which I have running.
I forget where the press back to kill app setting is., anyone remember?

Mine is doing the same. I've tried with and without LUX. I like the concept, but it is very dim. I'm on Viper 4.3.

Are you by chance talking about the ambient display option where the screen displays notifications in black and white first? If so you should be able to turn off ambient display.

Thanks I guess I didn't quite understand what the ambient display really does other then just turning the screen on automatically.

Alert Slider When Screen Off

Hi all,
I remember from the 5T that when moving the alert slider, the sound profile was shown on the screen even when the screen was off. Now when I change profiles, there's nothing. Anyone knows why? Or how to enable it? Can't find anything in the settings and I liked it.
Thanks!
You need to enable ambient display for this.

Aaaah okay great! Didn't know that. Too bad. I don't like the lift up display. Anyways, thanks a lot!

Customize Notifications?

Hey all,
I'm so used to all the features of Light Flow that I didn't realize how much I depended on it. Since the 3 does not have an LED, I'm looking for an alternative app to manage my notifications. I want to be able to choose the notification sound and the vibration pattern per app.
Light Flow does this but not without requiring a persistent notification. Normally you'd be able to avoid this by installing Light Flow Legacy, but it does not show up in the app store on the Pixel 3.
Does anybody have any recommendations?
Thanks
Go to apk mirror and download light flow legacy that way. Let us know how it goes. I really hate the lack of notification LED, but I'm not willing to go as far as you to customize the vibrations etc.

Already tried this. It doesn't seem be on there.
I've been using Light Manager. It displays customized colored icons on the screen in place of the LED, with AOD turned off. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.

Since there is no LED, we have no way of knowing if my phone is charging when plugged in without turning on the screen. Does light manager have a solution for this too?
Yes, it shows a charging icon and the %

I tried it and it looks like the default lock screen prevents the icons from displaying. Do you have your screen set to stay off when new notifications come in or is there something else you changed in either the app or system settings? Sorry for hijacking the thread with all the questions, but this lack of LED makes my phone useless while the screen is off.
Yes I have always on display off, and new notifications off. Double tap and lift for notifications I still have on though.

What other settings do you have? My phone isn't waking up with Light Manager with AOD/new notifications off and double tap/lift for notifications on. I do not have a lock screen enabled nor does it work with lock screen (swipe) enabled.
The "tests" aren't working either.

Does this require you to double-unlock to get to your phone, or is there someway around that?

Are you setting Light Manager to "Screen Mode" in the top right?

That got it working. I have to tap the screen once, home/back button then shows, then double tap to get to the home screen.
Yeah I use fingerprint unlock and realize it requires it being done twice. We need a cleaner solution.

A cleaner solution was the $0.03 LED that Google removed from the phone! It shouldn't be this hard to tell if my phone is charging.
If I wanted a useless notification system, I would've purchased an iPhone!

how i can manage the duration of the notifications on always on display ?

i'm using oneplus 6 with stock ROM. i'm using always on display and really love it. but i've got a problem with the notifications.
notifications appear on the screen and stays 4 or 5 seconds and then gone. i love seeing the notification on the screen without touching anything but it lasts in just 5 seconds. isn't there are setting to change this ? except for installing a custom ROM ?
sorry i just figured out that it isn't AOD that i love. it is lift-up display. unfortunately oneplus does not allow us to use AOD with software update, now knowing why.
but my question is still valid. is there a way to change the notification showing duration on the screen while screen is off ?

Yes there is! I use the Substratum Theme "OnePlus AOD Modifier" on OP6 with OOS 9.0.2. It allows you to set the notification time and also the lift up time.
