hello there first post so dont shoot me
im using nexus 5 about 4 years now as my daily driver and i tried many roms.
right now i have android 8.1 via liquidremix.
My biggest problem is camera. nexus 5 has a pretty ****ty camera right from the beggining but since nougat it starts to get annoying. i think it has to do with camera drivers.
can anyone enlight me wich version of android i must use for the best quality photos? is there any nougat or oreo roms that using their own drivers or marshmallow is the only way?
and if i must go to marshmallow i must use a factory image based rom or no?
please any specific rom recomendations will be very helpfull

I have a feeling that you use whatever camera comes with the ROM.
I have no problem with the camera, I use Google camera 3.2.xx, and even hdr works. ROM? AEX 8.1
I don't think there's any needs to go back to MM, but it's your choice.

that's weird... i have the 3 of them working on my HD, I really don't have any idea of what could be the problem.. sorry
Many AOSP based ROMs aren't compatible with blur based apps. I think it has something to do with the libs.

This is a common issue when using custom ROMs because the stock camera is a proprietarily protected and controlled closed source software, custom software developers do not have access to the source code for stock camera apps in order to make the stock camera app work with the custom ROM that they build. Typically, the custom ROM developer has to work from scratch in order to debug the camera to get it to work.
A common solution that is used by many users that use custom ROMs to fix the camera is to use a 3rd party camera app from the PlayStore such as the Google Camera app or the ABC(A Better Camera) app. Try some 3rd party apps to see if you can find one that works.

The only suggestion I have is to post your issue in the ROM thread where you got your ROM to let the developer know that they need to fix the camera issue. Maybe the developer or other members in that thread can figure it out.
If using a 3rd party camera didn't work, you're going to have to wait and see if the developer fixes this issue in their ROM build. They might figure it out and they might not, some ROMs never get the camera fixed at all, either the developer never tries to fix it or they try but they don't succeed. Like I said, the camera is a closed source software, there are no resources to use to fix it, whoever attempts to solve the issue has to work from scratch and figure it out piece by piece from nothing. If you're not a developer, there isnt much of a chance that you'll figure it out for yourself, but you can try.

Sure. I will try it.
Currently using Pixel experience CAF based but as it is discontinued so i would have to shift. But if you dont really care about updates, the last build was a solid one...

If I'm talking custom ROMs (other than MIUI) I would say LineageOS 16.0 Official.

Well, there's no ROM with zero bugs. This ROM has minimal and is almost okay for daily use.

Ah thanks mate.. also are you able to download apps like Netflix from the Play Store after rooting(Magisk)? I'm currently using Magisk on MIUI and Play Store still detects the root even though my device passes SafetyNet and has MagiskHide enabled.

Has anyone tried RR(Resurrection Remix)? If so, any pros/cons/personal experiences? Apart from ones in official thread?

Hmm.. that's a bit weird.
what's the rom that's most stable right now? I'm on China rom and have 7 days to wait to unlock my bootloader.
unfortunately I don't like the rom, sync issues with my google accounts.
I no longer have the time to keep on flashing ang re-flashing my phone, am terribly busy with work. so I'm looking for a rom where I can stick on it for a few months.
my last device was a mi max 2 and I stayed on nougat, on that one rom for 14 months lol. I don't really care about updates. as long as the rom is snappy and fast and generally bug free.

Same here. Can someone please give us some inputs as to which ROM is best to stick around? (other than the MIUI, I hate it)
Stability and reliability along with good camera usage is my necessity.
Had used PE on Redmi Note 5 Pro for more than 6 months. PE for Violet seems to be slightly lagging when I used it. And I am unable to use finger print in LOS.
I just flashed Evolution ROM. It seems to be built on PE and so far it looks very neat. Will update later with more details.
UPDATE: Evolution 2.0 seems to be the better among the AOSP based ROMs out there. I never noticed any issues. GCAM, battery, signal coverage and integrity, stability etc, seems to be really impressive... Close to stock roms. In case you want AOSP ROM, i would suggest this one strongly.

You can flash PE AOSP for stability. I am still on a June release, with zero issues. I'm sure the latest build will be stable and improved too.
Hey I am newbie here on XDA and wanna try out new roms on my phone (OP Nord), Is there any way of installing stock OOS camera on custom roms? the preinstalled camera on Lineage Os is just ok, tried Gcam also but i prefer the results from stock camera app. This the only thing which is stopping me from using custom rom and i reinstalled oxygen os back again using MSM tools and i miss the overall stock android feel and customizability of custom roms.
I'm interested too.... Anyway you know how to turn back to oxygen?

In what way was it bad? Im seconds away from flashing lineageos on my oneplus nord
Was the quality bad, didn't all cameras work or was it purely GUI-wise?

In my opinion is bad the lineage one because I cannot use all the secondary cameras of the phone. I tried also with Google camera but I have the same problem

No that doesn't work OnePlus camera needs some Oxygen Os API to work , sideloading just the apk won't work.

The pics taken from lineage os stock camera are no way comparable to the stock cam pics, its like taking photos using whatsapp's camera remember how bad that look. Also there are a lot of features missing its not actually meant to be used for specifically in nord it was made as a generic app to be used in any lineage os build. It gets the work done but quality is very low. Gcam over saturates the image I don't know how people are using it in my experience gcam never gave a better results than Oxygen Os cam. Just for this reason I reverted back to Oxygen Os using MSM tools. As far as I remember OnePlus 7 series also had this problem where custom rom's camera weren't able to produce high quality images. So custom rom maker started putting original Oxygen Os cam in the rom itself I don't know how they did it, but I hope some does the same for the nord untill then custom rom for Nord can not be used as daily driver.

I used MSM tool guide can be found here
[OPNORD][OOS AC01AA/BA/DA] Unbrick tool to restore your device to OxygenOS

forum.xda-developers.com
It wipes all the data and restore phone back to how it was originally.
You may also use this Guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-stock-fastboot-roms-for-oneplus-nord.4142153
It does the same but using fastboot method it'll also wipe your data.
So with Galaxy S7 not recieiving updates for awhile, thought i'd update it with custom ROMs, tried LineageOS etc
First thing i noticed was the camera app they replaced the OG with the quality is awful (in photos and videos)
Did some research and came across LightROM which is based on OneUI 1.0 and includes the great stock Samsung camera app
Sadly this ROM stopped recieving updates since 2020
Is there no other currently updated ROM that includes the good camera app or somehow i missed?
Thanks
