Root on fire HD 10 - but no custom recovery or ROMs? - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 General

Can someone help me understand how we can have root methods for the HD 10, but no custom recovery or ROMs?
Any news or updates on the effort here? I'm willing to pay or donate to get it done!
I REALLY want to turn my tablet into an Android tablet... Not a fire tablet with an almost Android experience.

If we can get some one to create safestrap probably we can have a custom Rom !ade

There's no ROM(s) because root was just gained in December. So far as I know, no developers own a HD 10 (at least none that have said so) so no one is able to build one. I am willing to try, but unfortunately I don't have all the resources yet. There is no custom recovery because the bootloader is still locked (so far as I know). Its very hard, almost impossible to get a custom recovery on a locked device. Give it some more time. Maybe @ggow will surprise us.

I have a 'maybe dumb' problem, because we only can flash with FlashFire.
Months ago, I owned a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. I tried to compile Oreo for it. But, what happened to me is, before I get the ROM to BOOT, I compiled it exactly 17 times, fixing bugs. I never had a problem because I had the TWRP handy, but in this case we will not have a custom recovery at all. If the ROM fails to boot, we'll have to sideload stock ROM. Sideloading stock 17 times... doesn't it look tedious? From my experience, any developer no matter how clever he is, will have to compile at least 10 or so times before getting the ROM to boot???
Thanks!

To be honest, FireOS is pretty awesome with root and debloated. I've not had a single problem debloating, and I'm still going lol.

Hi! I pretty much agree with you. But you never know what it can do until you flash stock Android.
Thanks!

Could be that I don't know how to solve the problems I have, but for me not all the Google play applications I want (for my kid) work. Issues vary from validating my authorized purchase to core functionality of applications not working. Some of the applications refer to Android os content and services that either aren't in fire os, are named differently, or have different functionality.
Not to mention that I dislike my son's user experience... He's only 3, quite smart but I've not been able to strike a good balance of protecting him and allowing him to actually use his tablet without learning wierd tricks to access Google play apps.
I'm ok if I have to stay on Fire Os if I can have complete control over profiles, launchers and have a genuine experience using my Google Play applications. Some of the FreeTime stuff is ok... My son might like some of it. But more importantly I want him to have the far superior applications on Google Play which are not currently available on Fire.

I'm willing to contribute to get a custom rom on the fire 10.

I really want to compile one, my skills are getting blunt without some compiling, but it turns out that I only have a HD 8.

Can someone please educate me on getting the GPS to work with google maps, like my phone? My HD 10 7th gen is rooted w/supersu. I have xposed and flashfire installed.
Is a custom ROM really required for this? I tried GPS tethering over hotpot but even that didn't work properly. I wish Amazon had their own proper NAV app to use the GPS chip, could be a bonus to being a prime member.

Clear data of 4 Google apps. Uninstall and reboot. Make sure nothing of the apps are left in /data/data. If so, delete folders and reboot. When booted again, toggle off location services for about 30 seconds and turn it back on. Then install the 4 APKs in this exact order: gfs_login, gfs, gms, vending. After install wait about a minute or two and reboot then log in. Wait several minutes, watching the two desktop icons. When they flash, the apps have updated. Go to location services and it might be turned off. If so, turn it on and press accept/yes for ALL OPTIONS. If it's turned on, toggle it off for 30 seconds then turn it on and again accept/yes all boxes that appear.

Thanks, although I did not get location prompts at the end. :/
Data was wiped for all 4, and uninstalled. rebooted and verified no data with ES.
Installed google apks in the exact order, waited 2 minutes, rebooted, then logged into playstore.
Went to home screen, saw apps flash after waiting. Went to location services (was off) turned on and no prompts
Turned off, waited 30 secs, turned back on, still no prompts.
Is this any different from your guide here?
Step 6. states "Once all the APKs are installed, open the Play Store and sign into your account and IMMEDIATELY go to settings and TURN OFF auto-updates. "
Perhaps that's what I need to do?

Just ordered an HD10, will this tutorial still work? https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd...7-root-box-t3726443/post75187398#post75187398
Will that debloat Fire OS also?

So I've figured out numerous things that get this closer to a custom rom. I just want to report my progress. As I'm working to get my PC in a good enough shape to run Windows and Linux again, I can't compile from source yet. my biggest issue is space. I need to free a lot up. But that doesn't mean anything.
I have been able to track down a lot of useful old school tools here on XDA. The amount of resources that exist on this site never cease to amaze me. Given what I've been doing to these tablets (the resources are old, 2012 onward), I kept looking in that era for tools to assist in getting us to a rom. In the past week I've been able to do these things, with success but have not tested a rom yet. Amazon has had it a bit more difficult with this device.
- Successfully deodexed the stock ROM 5.6.1.0. This was very easy to do...once I found tool that was compatible with deodexing Lollipop. Apparently it not easy to do.
- Successful library integration and editing of a stock AOSP Gallery3d apk. Fully 100% operational and full picture editing availability. Combine my wallpaper discovery, Amazon Photos is no longer required as a wallpaper or gallery source.
- Successfully addition of other surprises
- Figured out how Amazon restocks the ROM on a reflash. In the update.bin is a .dat file. When compiled, produces the system files in whole fresh stock. This can be edited then recompiled back into a system.img or can be used to build a ROM .zip style. That also means once I can build from source, a real ROM can be built.
- Will be pre-rooted with busy box.
- Viper4Android
- Ad blocking from open source free ware.
- Includes my framework and Settings mods.
Any questions please feel free to ask.

Or a severe lack of progress...
I have been at it for hours and hours and I am no closer than I was when I made my last post. I've looked at dozens of updater-scripts and the mount points are no different than the Fire 7, but it just won't flash a zip and when the rare chance comes along that the zip does flash, booting doesn't get past the white Amazon logo (first power on logo). I finally managed to get nearly all of the script right, and now when I add assert getprop for device ID verification, it rejects it despite the fields being properly filled out. I'm not giving up, I just need to figure out why.
On a side note, I have been able to do a switcheroo on the system, sorta. In trying to further mod the settings apk, I have been able to use a settings apk from an AOSP rom to replace FireTabletSettings. There is a trick...uninstall the stock FireTabletSettings APK, wipe the caches and dalvik, and took a resigned AOSP settings apk (test key signed), installed it as a user app then converted it to a system app. It installs fine, but I can only get half of it to work. I haven't tried with the framework or systemUI yet because I haven't been successful with the settings.

Try digging in files. I guarantee that Amazon took a very similar approach as Samsung did, requiring you to flash a break encryption zip.
I would try to help, as I've made several AOSP roms, but that was when Android 4.4 was the newest and you could compile it with 4 gb of ram.
Once I upgrade or get a new PC, I will most definitely install Linux, and try to help this forum.

Haven't been up-to-date.
Do we have TWRP? If not how are you flashing the files?
I'd be open to porting TWRP to the HD 10 and maybe the 8 if we needed.
Reason being TWRP backups can be converted to a flashable .zip file, meaning that once you've gotten all the AOSP apps working (settings, gallery, etc) you could theme it, debloat it, deodex it, and everything else then save it and convert it to a zip. Would save people the time of doing it, and would be one step forward.

Not sure about the encryption. It has to be a script problem, or the system partition won't accept zips and that's the barrier. However if I just flash the system directory instead, everything works fine. I can flash stuff into it just fine that way, but seems any time I go the way of the partition, I can't win. Flashing your own system image works too. However I haven't been able to get one to flash if I modify it. So I can decompile a system.img add to it, remove items and recompile it and it won't flash.
I am using flash fire to flash zips. We still have a locked bootloader so twrp isn't a likely option.

I mean, if PC performance is an issue I can give you access to a brand new xeon if it means there will be a custom ROM out.
Been thinking about buying the Fire HD 10 this black Friday and flash the Amazon garbage out, and was amazed to see none exist even though it has been a year since they figured out the rooting.
This will be an outstanding value if it was possible...

[ROM] Androot-N7p-rom for Nextbook 7 Premium

Welcome to Androot-N7p-ROM for the NextBook 7 Premium *ONLY.
I decided to change up some of the apps and generalize the rom in terms of its boot-animation screen. It runs on LauncherPro (just choose it as the "always"/default upon first instance of it. The Launcher that comes with the device isn't so great, but I left it there just in case.
It's based on the first known rooted ROM for this device: 'DocHoppy's ROM'. Credit for most of this ROM goes to him and to 'Wendal' for his toolset for packing the ROM (into cramfs) for the Nextbook 7 Premium device.
As such, it is a beta/ work-in-progress.

Rename file to update.img
copy file to root of SD card.
Follow on screen prompt asking if you want to run update image.

Here's my changes..
removed:
-youtube player <- the real youtube app is better
-explorer <- redundant
-slide me app market <- redundant now that Google's Market is installed
-quick search box <- Google Search widget is better IMO
kept/added:
-Market <- the real Google one
-root explorer - an alternative & capable file explorer
-astro file manager <- we all know it well
-quickpic 1.5.2 - a much lighter & more efficient photo organizer/viewer
-3D gallery <- some love it, some hate it
-brightness level 1.0.0 - quicker brightness changes
-ConnectBot 1.6.2 <- for those that need a SSH tool
-Officesuite full <- may as well keep it
-Titanium Backup 4.6.7 <- has some very handy tools aside from backups
-LauncherPro 0.8.6 <- may be old, but it's smooth and capable
-superuser <- because this rom is rooted
-has some of the Google Apps (go ahead and add as you see fit)
-has a custom boot animation.

Since I'm new to modifying/cooking ROMs, here's my
Questions I have for the devs that cook ROMs all the time...
(lol)
Where do I edit the items that show in 'settings > about' in the device?
How do I change the default shortcuts that LauncherPro puts on the dock?
How do I change what icons are default on the home screen?
Where do I put custom wallpapers as part of the rom?
How do I modify Android UI colours?
Can the dialer be removes without losing "contacts"?
How do I create a shortcut to "contacts" without the phone/dialer?
(more to come I'm sure)
Hello, first of all, thanks for your work!
I am having trouble loading this rom. it says there's an invalid image file in my sd card and if I want to delete.
Now, I don't know if my tablet is a never or older version of what you guys have...
Next7p
2.3.1
kernel: 2.6.32.27
build: v2.0.7.....
my serial is also different from alot..it starts with YF0511
any help or tips?
In Dochoppy's original rom/post he mentions that the device will need to have a serial number starting with YF1011. That stands the same for this rom, as it's derived from his.
Having an invalid update.img firmware file could be due to a number of things, but the one I have here works on my device.
I wish I had more of an answer, but by all means try out the tools for repacking the rom.
So after messing around compiling a ROM, I forgot to add a launcher, and now I am stuck in a bootloop. After the girl in the dress is there for awhile, I get a black screen, then reboot. Anyone now how to fix this? I have been searching Google, but can not find anything yet.
Any help would be great!

I had mine half dead for a short bit until i found i could go into a low level bootloader mode and recover it. I am working on getting a the tool/images i used to recover mine uploaded and such.
Download and extract n7p_rescue_kit.zip
Reboot device using paper clip then quickly press and hold reset until you get black screen with usb plugged in
When windows wants driver give it the respective folder for your os (32bit or 64bit) from Drivers folder from the download
Run RK29update.exe if it says "Found RKAndroid Loader Rock Usb" on bottom you are good but if it shows "No Found RKAndroid rock usb" repeat last step.
Either flash all of the default selected items or do just system (since bootloop is in system)
Hope this helps
P.S. If you pack then unpack your custom one you can flash JUST system using the tool but be sure to use the offsets that are pre-loaded.
use a pin to push the reset button on the back to break out of the boot loop.
If after this your rom still bootloops, try putting a different update.img rom to flash, on to the sd card. Then boot into safe mode by holding all 4 front buttons after boot. the update should be found and installed after that.
Thanks!
I registered just to thank DocHoppy for all his efforts. I have a Nextbook Premium 7 I got for Christmas from Hastings, which fell into the YF09111XXXX batch. I used Wendal Chen's RK29xxImageTools_v2.1 to unpack the firmware upgrade from the nextbookusa site. I then put the Google apks, SuperUser, Rootexplorer, and re-packed it with a custom bootanimation. Because of my serial # I couldn't use DocHoppy rom without getting that "Invalid Update" error, but using their firmware seems to work.
My next goal is to find a way to get the "Accounts & Sync" into the settings! One of my apps is getting an "Error 42" which is an Android Market authentication error... however, other apps have worked without any problems so it's difficult to tell if that's the issue I'm having.

Not sure if this rom will work for you, just guessing by your serial number. If it is to work changing between roms on these tablets is very easy. Just download the image onto the root of your sdcard, rename it update.zip (not update.zip.zip) your tablet will recognize it as an update and ask if you want to proceed. If you say yes then follow the prompts and your in business!

Just go this to day and was plesantly suprised to find this rooted rom. Just wanted toy let you know that my S/N is YF12112xxxx and this rom work prefect for me (so far) Thanks for all the work you guys have done here. Also is there anyway to over clock the processor in out tabs?
Thanks for the comments thus far!
I would like to overclock this thing too, but that might be further down the road, as priority is on getting a different file-system for the /system volume.
Version 0.4 is coming next.
FYI:
There will be a larger span of time between updates on this particular rom for the N7p, because I will be using more stable conjumbles of things from other roms for this device. This rom is more of a remix or derivative than an entirely different rom.
Again thanks for all the hard work. I have a few requests. first since we cant change the Adhoc ( using wifi from another android device) on the fly with out RW access can you please add the ability to connect to adhoc wifi in the next build? Also i love google currents app but we cant use is on our device because we don't have map's installed. can that be added as well?

Most of the N7P roms out there now have Market installed and working. Why not just install these apps yourself?
I only suggest so because for the time being, the device is limited to its minimal capacity for apps without full-on apps2SD. Besides, for a tablet like this, you want to keep the system apps to a minimum and de-bloated for performance whenever possible.

I used the ROM from here. (LG Optimus T (P509): January 8: Build 7/Final)
I have no Google Play store icon anywhere. I see the Google Play process running in the background.
but have no way to get it to show up. This on a fresh ROM, all User data, Cache, and all that cleared.
Any help on this would be nice.
Would of asked on that post where I got the ROM. but I don't have the patience to or any thoughts about other post to make to meet the requirements to even post there.
Tried without flashing the Google Apps and with the google apps they list there.
Flashing Google Apps just crashes things like the browser. it wont even open.
Not flashing Google Apps I can use the browser just fine. but I still see "Google Play Services" Running. So that tells me google play is installed.
So don't have to flash it. but cant open it even if i did or not. no Icon anywhere no matter what I try. I been wanting to use CM10. but this issue keeps me going back to CM7.
Thanks in advance to the person with the answer.

Are you sure you are using the right GApps package? That's Rasheds ROM you're referring to using. Build 7 is Android 4.1.2. Check this link here. And some of the problems you may be experiencing could be due to a faulty installation because of limited system space. You may want to review the LG Optimus One FAQ too.

There is more then enough internal space. (150MB Free after Gapps Flashed).
I tried again with the Gapps for 4.1.2. At the time my post I re flashed the ROM but left it out. I didn't flash it.
When I tried again. I got the Updating Android. but still no Play Store Icon. However it did not break my home or other buttons.
and browser still working. but again. no Play Store icon.
I checked the FAQ. Currently i see nothing there to give hints. I got more then enough free space. I've flashed ROMs on this phone dozens of times so I know the whole wiping of cache and data and all that between each ROM.

You have to trim the Rom, there's not enough SYSTEM space for the Rom and Gapps..this has been discussed time and time again on rashed thread(cm10)..There's a tool ( Oone Rom editor that will help you do this) This is why you have the bugs that your facing.

The system partition has nothing to do with the devices memory. These devices have a 190 MB system partition, this is where Android gets installed. What you are referring to is the user data partition which is 200 MB, while the device has 415 MB+- RAM ( memory ). Unless you are using Android 4.2.2, the only way to see how much space is on the system partition is with a third party app, with ADB, or with a Terminal Emulator app on the device. The math isn't adding up because you don't understand it, that's why I pointed you to the FAQ thread.
I wrote OOne ROM Editor. I haven't put hundreds, yes hundreds, of hours in to it's development just for general pleasure. It was written for a specific purpose, to trim ICS and newer ROMs for devices with small or limited system partitions.

I dont know what to try to trim with that program. i dont know what half them apps do.
Like Exchange2.apk. I don't know what that is. Which are some of the key things i can trim?
Also, Telling me how many hours you put into a program and that i dont understand something not going to be on my good side. So i missed something, big deal. I just got off a anxiety attack. and i was needing was a simple answer. doing a search for "LG P509 No Playstore Icon" was getting me no where and i didnt want to have to search page by page of the 487 pages of the ROMs post to find clues.

Are you getting an "assert() failed" message? If you are using CWM 5.0.2.7 Touch, it will only allow you to install P500 ROMs. OOne ROM Editor has the ability to remove the "assert()" statement from the ROM's updater-script to prevent that particular error from happening. Before building the ROM, go to the Tools->Build submenu and select the Build Options command. Check the checkbox for "Remove updater-script 'assert()' statement". Then build the ROM.
And stress... You call editing a ROM stress? Try writing the code for OOne ROM Editor Or better yet, play with live electricity :silly: - oh wait I do that already since I am an electrician... DOn't get frustrated by it. Sit back relax and soak in some of the knowledge around here.

Sorry you're having a bad day. Rest assured, if I was talking down to you, there wouldn't be any smilies. I was just expressing that you weren't the only one out there with stress in their life, and some of us have loads of it. On that note, I'm not one of the many teenagers around here. So I'm not talking down to you, but out of experience. My teenage years were gone 23 years ago. Apparently it was take outta context, Sorry.
I think the issue I mentioned for CWM 5.0.2.7 is a shared issue with CWM 5.0.2.0, but I can't say for sure as I don't recall ever using CWM 5.0.2.0. I wasn't suggesting changing to the CWM I mentioned, was asking if that was the one you were/are using, which you've now stated you aren't. There error I was referring to would have been from CWM after flashing or trying to flash a ROM.

Can that program add apps? If so or not. maybe I can edit the zip directly. but is it possible to port the old music player in Gingerbread to JB. I don't like Apollo. or would it just be better to remove Apollo and find something I like in Play store when i make this work?
And should i try to use CWM 5.0.2.7 instead, and try again?
EDIT: Says I have the latest according to this.
EDIT 2: just ROM Manger being a butt. going to the site directly. I see CWM 5.0.2.7 as the latest.

Yes apps can be added, but only as User Apps. Select "User Apps" in the treeview on the left. Then right click on the listview on the right and select the "Add apps" command item. A file dialog will appear. Multiple file selection is allowed.
You can remove Apollo. I prefer Google Play Music myself.
For your recovery. CWM 5.0.2.7 will only allow installing P500 ROMs. I do prefer the touch version of CWM, and since P509 is identical to P500, it's really not an issue other than baseband which is solved with a flashable patch. I really cannot recommend a recovery as we all have different likes/dislikes/usage patterns. I would recommend not using ROM Manager to install a recovery. It's been known to be faulty with our devices. Theres always ADB and fastboot or another one of my tools, Android Flash Recovery. There are several other apps around XDA that can do this also.

Ill just leave it be then. Its always worked for me. if there was a problem it was with the ROM.
I haven't tried Google Play music before. but is it possible to port the music player from Gingerbread to JB?
but I'm getting the jiffs of that program. I just need to play with it. some things I converted to User apps never loaded at all.
So I need to play with what I can put in User data that will still work. but none the less i been getting the builds to install.
And even show Play Store again.
Just need to mess with what works and dont in User data.
-Edit-
I tried to Make LatinIME Smaller and convert it to Userdata in the build options but every build has no keyboard support.

Is there anyway you can post the updater-scipt from one of the builds you've made with OOne ROM Editor where you've modified the LatinIME.apk and specified to install as a User App? The updater-script is located in the /META-INF/com/google/android folder in the output/build ROM.
One thing to note tho, build options are reset after every build.

I noticed that it resets everytime. so i been ontop of that. I check both boxes in the build options before I build them.
I did read also not to delete LatinME.apk. and use the editor. But i know the LatinME is a nice chunk of Memory.
So to make it smaller and usable in User apps is plus to make the important things I need working.
-Edit-
I haven't been saving the bad builds. that attachment was for a new build I haven't tried yet.
and I just did. now keyboard working. But I think that build I didn't tell it to put Latin in User apps that time.
But I did use the editor. So I don't know.

I can't tell what you installed as user apps from the updater-script, but there were apps installed to the user ( data ) partition. And the assert() statement is missing from the script, so I know that option was checked in the Build Options.
The reason I say not to manually move it is because the LatinIME Keyboard Editor should be used to edit it's dictionaries. Once you press the "Apply" button in the LatinIME Keyboard Editor, it removes the LatinIME.apk from System Apps and actually puts it in the apps Recycle Bin. I use the list of files in the Recycle Bin as a filter of files not to include when building the ROM. LatinIME Keyboard Editor also looks in the Recycle Bin for the LatinIME.apk if it can't find it in System Apps but it assumes that it's deleted so it won't do anything.
I am actually working on OOne ROM Editor right now. So you can be on the lookout for an update

Well I got everything to work. Keyboard, Play Store, etc. But not sure ill stick with trying to put JB on the phone.
Its really slow. Unless more free space on the system partition would allow it to run faster.
Would your OOne ROOM Editor work on Any rom Like a CM7 Rom? or just JB ones? if not would you consider support for other roms?
I haven't tried, but figure I would ask.

OOne ROM Editor is just for ICS and JB ROMs. It's really not needed for Android versions prior to 4.0.

[ROM] iPioneer Slim 10c v0.1 for LGV521 - Rooted, busybox, init.d, debloated, etc...

***/
iPioneer Slim 10c v0.1 is a light, clean and fast custom rom designed for the Lg G Pad X 8.0 (T-Mobile variant only) and it's aim is to become a replacement for the default system of this device.
iPioneer Slim 10c v0.1 it is light because it only takes 519.8Mb of disk space which is a big difference when you compare the 1.2Gb of a stock rom, it is clean because it only contains the essential apps to make it work properly and it is faster because the whole system have been 100% optimized.
iPioneer it have been designed with the User Freedom in mind, it only provides you with the basic OS so you can do what you need to do on top of that.
Features:
Based on stock (10c)
Rooted
Busyboxed
Init.d Support
Extremely debloated (very serious)
Deodexed
Zipaligned
Nova as default launcher
Installation instructions:
Download the rom to your desire location (link to download to the end of this post).
Boot into Twrp recovery and do a standard wipe (factory reset).
Install the downloaded rom .zip.
Reboot the device.
Be patient, is going to take more time than a regular stock rom to boot into the system, at first is going to be stuck at T-Mobile logo but after few seconds is going to enter into App Optimization mode and after that you will be able to setup your system.
Enjoy it.
First things to do after you install this rom:
Add your google account (if you didn't complete that step at the first setup).
Download your favorite app manager (Rom Toolbox, Titanium, etc.).
Freeze the application called App Updates in order to stop the system update beacon for OTA. I removed 3 core apps in order to stop OTAs but it seems to be very integrated with the system, there is no way I can remove it from the rom without breaking the system. This is the most practical way to my knowledge right now.
Optionals things to do after you install this rom:
You can uninstall Nova Launcher if you want as is not part of the system apps, but before you need to install your favorite launcher. If you don't install another launcher and remove Nova you will have a broken system and most likely you'll have to re-flash the rom.
On purpose bugs and missing options:
On purpose bugs are bugs that comes when you remove a functionality from the system but it can not be removed from a third party component, example: LG VPN app it has been removed but the options remains in the Settings of the device and when you tap that option you will provoke a crash event, the way to resolve this is to decode the third party component (very difficult) or reinstall the missing part (in this case the LG VPN app).
iPioneer Slim 0.1 it comes without some apps that can not be removed from the system setting options, this is like that because I believe that these apps are not necessary for all people, if someone need them they can be downloaded/replaced from the Play Store or I will provide a flashable file with these apps so you can install them.
On Purpose bugs (located at settings):
From the Share & Connect menu:
File Sharing that contains BLE and Android Beam doesn't work, package SmartShare it has been removed.
Media Server (DLNA) doesn't work, package SmartShare that also contains SmartShare.MediaServer it has been removed.
Lg Airdrive doesn't work, package LGAirDrive & LGAirDriveSettings were removed.
From More>VPN menu:
LG VPN doesn't work, package VpnClient_LG it has been removed. Basic VPN it works.
From Display menu:
Home screen doesn't work, packages LGHome, HomeSelector, LGHome_Theme_Optimus, com.lge.launcher3, com.lge.launcher2.theme.optimus were removed.
If you need these options to be available on your system just download these app on Play Store if they are available or just wait until I have ready the System Apps flashable zips.
Missing options (located at settings):
Smart Cleaning not present, package LGSpringCleaning it has been removed.
Cloud (cloud integration in settings) not present, package CloudHub (maybe dependant on SmartShare package) it has been removed, please also note that this cloud integration it was integrated on the stock File Manager, so... if you want a full integration of the Cloud service on settings maybe you will have to install the stock File Manager provided by LGFileManager package.
From Backup & reset menu:
LG Backup is not present, packages LGBackupLauncher and LGBackup were removed.
From About tablet menu:
Update Center and its content (App updates & System updates) is not present, packages com.lge.appbox.client (app updates), com.lge.updatecenter & LGUpdateCenter (main menu for updates) were removed.
If you need these options to be available on your system just download these app on Play Store if they are available or just wait until I have ready the System Apps flashable zips.Flashable zip with system apps:
Coming soon when I have a free time.
What to do if you get the OTA notification:
Freeze the app called App Updates with your favorite app manager.
With your favorite file manager go to /cache and delete the update.zip (the downloaded ota).
Tap on Restart & Install button on OTA pop-up, the pop-up it will start counting to 0 in order to restart but your device won't restart because there are 3 core apps removed from this rom plus 1 app that you just disabled (all these 4 app controls the OTA), the notification is just gonna disappear, push recent button and clear the ota pop-up window.
Bugs Report:
If you find a bug in this rom just notify me about that in this thread, please, just use the title as "Bug Report" so I can pay close attention to that, my time is very limited. Thank you.
Feature Request:
If you want a feature to be added into future revisions of this rom just notify me about that in this thread, please, just use the title as "Feature Request" so I can pay close attention to that, my time is very limited. Thank you.

How fast does it run compared to the stock rom?

How fast it can go is a subjective matter:
It will depend on hardware lifetime span (how you use it and how other people use this tablet).
It will depend how much apps and content you put in it (the more things you download the more slow android is gonna be, this is kind a Swap area).
I did not do a benchmark, when I declared that is faster than a stock rom is because that speed response enhacement it comes based on the Deodex and Zipalign process. It can be or maybe not noticeable to your eyes but based on deodex and zipalign process is for sure that is faster than an odex and not-zipaligned rom.
The best answer is that you need to try it on your own and see the difference.

Poll added at the beginning (not visible in tapatalk or xda app).
Please only select the apps that you really need or you really think that should comes with the next revision of iPioneer Slim rom.
This will help me to build a better version with features that users needs.
C'mon guys... only 3 users have use the poll...
I need more data background in order to release a new version of the Slim line version (may be the last one).
All V521 users please contribute with this.
Right now I'm testing a new build that it seems to have success stoping ota download and notification & I have removed even more bloat background packages.
As of today I start the syncing process of CyanogenMod for our device, so all I ask is that V521 users vote in the poll so I can build and release what I think it would be the last Slim version (iPioneer Slim 0.2) based on users needs.
Once I start the developtment with CM I will not pay attentions to the Stock & Slim version until I finish with what is gonna become iPioneer CM 13.

Thank you for your attention guys.

The reason is that the xda app can't see the vote going on.
Personally, I will be excited to see a cm/aosp custom build, which will sure draw much more attention.

Another reason is not many users are interested enough in a slimmed stock rom. The benefits of a slimmed stock rom may include less system storage usage. But the free uped system storage is not accessible for users to use as data storage anyway. Speedwise, I wouldn't expect noticeable improvement from a slimmed stock rom. As a result, the benefits of a slimmed stock rom is not enough to draw users' attention or interest.
I am a flashholic but I actually not interested in slimmed stock at all because I already have root.
I personally advise you to not spend too much time on modified stock rom.
I appreciate your work and look forward to your future possible cm rom, which I will definitely try it out and will draw many g pad x users here. And don't forget there is a bounty for custom roms like cm.

You are right about working in a stock version. The reason why I'm doing this is because we all know that CM most of the time has bugs, bluetooh problems, camera issues, data conectivity troubles, etc...
Sooooo, if the version of CM I'm going to compile it results with many bugs there is gonna be the option to go back to stock slimed or stock bloated.
I can build a CM verion but Im not the kind of guy who inverts his time in CODE MODIFICATION, so hopefully the build it comes with no bugs at all or at least no major bugs.
The other alternative is that I can sync, compile and build and one more guys can do the bug fixes.

That would be great! I think if you took a poll most people would prefer a CM build to a slimmed down stock build.

Yeah, I know that. Wish me luck.
Right now I'm stuck trying to get the Blobs for this device and compiling the kernel so I can build the CM recovery, once I have the recovery done I can start compiling CM and start testing.
I'm trying to by pass the kernel (as is not need it right now to build the recovery) but for some reason the system is demanding an standard and working kernel... weird...
But honestly speaking is gonna take lot of time. So be patient guys.

Ik, is just a prebuilt because our device doesnt have a device tree or structure already, so making this at first is gonna help me to buil the cm zip.
Is not need it if a device tree already exist but not in this case, just see it like a pretesting of code for this device.
When I try to compile this recovery things are gonna break so you get info of what is missing, what you need, log, etc... So you fix everything you can in this step and then you build the cm.zip in a better way (less issues).

These are your device tree for twrp 4 b3 right?
Let me see if I can work with that, I was almost done building the cm.recovery and fixing some boot.img issues but if I can take your files that would save time.
Did you forked that device tree or u just build it from scratch?
If you forked them, from what device?
I was thinking on pulling the v500 just to figure out some sort of missing info I havent been able to catch from ramdisk.

i built it from scratch, id be careful looking too much at the v500, it's a snapdragon 600 SOC which is very old and is a quad core. the 615 in the g pad x is octacore and much newer. even the ramdisk is going to have big differences in how its handled.

[ROM][6.0][STOCK]{UPDATED} Lenovo Tab 3 8"/TB3-850F

STOCK ANDROID 6.0 MARSHMALLOW ROM
FOR THE LENOVO TAB 3 8"/TB3-850F
TWRP FLASHABLE ZIP
FORCE ENCRYPTION & DM-VERITY DISABLED
DISCLAIMER: Your warranty will be voided by installing this ROM, unlocking your bootloader, or flashing a custom recovery. You hereby assume sole responsibility for any positive or negative consequences incurred by flashing this ROM. As always, flashing your Android device or otherwise altering its file system & partitions involves an inherent risk. I am not responsible for any devices which are bricked or otherwise rendered inoperable as a result of flashing this ROM. However, in such scenarios,
I will provide all support feasibly possible. Follow the simple instructions carefully and you should experience no adverse affects.
Lenovo's open source code for this ROM encompasses both the 850F & 850M variants of this tablet. Therefore, this ROM should be completely compatible with the TB3-850M as well.
NOTES:
This Stock Android 6.0 ROM is virtually unmodified. However, it should be noted that dm-verity (device mapping) and force encryption have been disabled via patched boot image. This is the most current stock OS for the Lenovo Tab 3 8"; therefore, no OTAs will need to be installed subsequent to flashing this ROM. In order to ensure that force encryption gets disabled, it is imperative that the /userdata (Data) partition is formatted in TWRP prior to Installation. Please carefully follow the below instructions.
For those members who want a pure stock experience, but also want root access of the stock OS, I'm currently compiling a deodexed & zipaligned version of this ROM, fully rooted with Magisk 14.0 & BusyBox binaries pre-installed.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Android Version: 6.0 Marshmallow
Build No: TB3-850F_S100031_171010_ROW
Kernel Version: 3.18.19
SDK Version: 23
Software Version: TB3-850F_160412
Build ID: MRA58K
Android Security Patch Level: 9/05/2017
Runtime Version: ART 2.1.0
Hardware Version: LenovoPad TB3-850F
Board Platform: MediaTek MT6735M
CPU: 64-Bit, Quad-Core Cortex A-53 - 1.0GHz
GPU: Mali T720 - 450MHz
RAM: 1GB
OS Build Date: 10/10/2017
Source Code: http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/tablets/a-series/tab3-8/downloads/ds112711
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Unlocked bootloader;
2. TWRP recovery;
This is a pure stock, unmodified, TWRP flashable Android 6.0 Marshmallow ROM for the Lenovo Tab 3 8". This ROM was compiled from the most recent stock /boot and /system images. However, as noted previously, the boot image has been unpacked, patched, and repacked in order to disable dm-verity and force encryption. Because raw firmware images were used in compiling this ROM, the file size is in excess of 1GB (approximately 1.35GB).
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Download the ROM from the link provided and save it to your external micro SD card. Do not save to internal storage, as your /data partition will need to be formatted prior to installation;
2. Boot your tablet into TWRP recovery;
3. Wipe /system, /data, /cache & /Dalvik-ART cache. Also, select "Wipe", then "Format Data." This step is crucial to ensure disabling of force encryption. Please note that once installed, you may go to SETTINGS>>SECURITY and opt to encrypt the userdata on the tablet;
4. Select INSTALL, navigate to the location in which you saved the ROM zip file, and initiate installation. Flashing will complete in approximately 3 - 4 minutes;
5. Reboot system.
You should now have unmodified stock Android 6.0 installed on your Tab 3, as well as disabled dm-verity and disabled force encryption.

BUGS: Please report any and all bugs, no matter how seemingly trivial or insignificant. For those members with the knowledge, please submit a proper bug report. If you are not sure how, simply provide as many facts & details as possible. If you are having problems with apps, please specify as to whether the app is from Google Play. Also, please DO NOT submit bug reports unless you are utilizing this ROM in its present form -- unmodified, pure stock. Custom kernels, mods & tweaks (e.g. Xposed framework) & any deviations from pure stock will make it futile to analyze bug reports. Instead, provide with detail the precise nature of the problem. If reporting a bug, please specify if you are rooted (systemless or system-mode) and/or have BusyBox binaries installed. Submit screenshots of bugs if possible.
Brilliant! Will download now and report back later. Thank you.
My custom ROM for this tablet should be coming out of the Android Kitchen later this evening. I've dubbed it Ethereal OS v1.1 [Android 6.0.1]. Extremely lightweight yet moderately feature packed.

Nice!
After flashing the stock zip TWRP says unknown error. It booted up fine to where you login to your gmail and "bluetooth sharing has stopped working" pops up. Bluetooth can not be turned on within settings. I can not double swipe down to get to the notifications and the "Home" and "Recents" buttons do not seem to work although they both vibrate when pressed.
I will flash stock with SPFT and try your stock rom again.

I got the same error with Bluetooth Share force closing two times at the setup screen. Probably a corruption issue during archiving the ROM. I'll do an md5 and archive the ROM again.
Seemed to work, however the loading images and screen is still lenovo. Also they lenovo apps are still there.

My bad, understood.
On another note, I am finding it very buggy. The home and overview buttons do not work. They show you clicked it along with the haptic feedback, but nothing happens. The back button works and is the only way I know to get back to the home screen.
Also the tool panel you pull from the top stops working after a little while until I reboot. Then works for a little while.
The Play store downloads barely work. They show pending and nothing happens. I force quite, cleared the cache, disabled, reverted to the stock app and it works for a little bit. Then the other Play Store app comes back. Anyways, I am not complaining. I appreciate the work you put into this. It's awesome we get to do it at all. Just giving my feedback. P.S. It's a new TB3-850F.

Yes. Very buggy indeed. I have determined that the bugs are due to corruption during the unpacking of the system image. I'm repacking the ROM now to alleviate the bugs. Thanks for your input...
I've managed to fix the major bugs reported upon initial install of the ROM -- Recents & Home Buttons, Quick Pulldown Menu, Google Framework bugs, New App Shortcut bugs, etc. Simply corruption during packing (archiving) the ROM zip. I will try my best to get a new build posted sometime today.

Did you get around to uploading it? I am unable to use the OTA update file. Says its missing 'android-info.txt'
Also, anyone care to point me to a way to get back to stock/unrooted?? Nooooo, I didn't backup my ROM first. That would have made way to much sense.
I've been out of commission, unfortunately, due to impending health issues once again. I know that hospital food sucks, that the pretty nurses don't typically put out easy, and that the hospital WiFi restrictions can easily be bypassed with a proxy server address. Lol. And that's all I've learned in the past ten days. Anyway, hope to be back in my daily routine in the next day or so and finishing some stuff up for this device.
Hi, is this thread alive? I'm interested in solution because i have about 60 tablets and need a solution to clone form one source tablet (config, apps, wlan, users, etc.) to other 59. I have tried adb backup --twrp and it went ok, but when i tried restore it gave errors with system partition and now i can only recover tablet with factory ROM from this thread (but it is buggy and cannot put it int to production like this). Is it possible to create system rom from other working tablet? Iwill be very pleased If You can write step by step, how to create zipped rom from working device so i can then upload it to share with others.

The thread is alive and I'm currently ironing out the errors on the posted ROM. The errors are due to a couple of permissions which are omitted on my updater-script file. I'll be posting an updated and hopefully error free release this week. Thanks for your interest and sorry for the delay in development. I've had a number of health issues of late and I'm now recovering.
Problem after wiping /system
Hi,
I´m new right here. I bought a new TB3-850F and wanted to flash the Original Stock Rom. After opening the Bootloader and booting into twrp like this way https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-lenovo-tab3-8-tb3-850f-t3559786 I wiped the /data /System /dalvic and /Cache. After that I rebooted the system.
But it only shows after starting the Lenovo-Logo. No more booting. Because of this I can´t start the fastboot modus with Minimal ADB and Fastboot.
Is there some idea how I can boot into fastboot?
Many thanks for your help,

I´ve got a solution: After powering down, press power, wait 1 sec then hold both vol up & down also (all 3 Buttons) until vibrates. After starting in recovery Modus hold power button und press once the vol up.

Cheers buddy. Good stuff ??
@Hemphiz, I hope all is well my friend. Something I wanted to get your input on. It seems that a few members have been experiencing boot loops and other problems after following the TWRP & Root thread I revised. I'm sort of at a brick wall in terms of figuring out what's going on. I'm thinking that maybe there are regional variants that are incompatible with the TWRP we use. Or, it could be one of those situations where instructions are not being closely followed. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

[debloat-ROM] Back Bacon UI one ui for Canada, eh? SM-A530W October Release

October release is available with or without root
Made a few changes as far as adding in some apk's to hopefully make it stable for everyone.
Besides that, the usual with normal default font BUT lots more choices in the font section.
Enjoy!
*if anyone has solid reasons to remove any apk files i've put back please let me know as some I should not have been removing and others... not so sure
I will no longer be able to provide new copies of this after the October security patch. I no longer own an A8 2018 and without a device to test the work, I do not feel it is appropriate to continue the project. I'd like to thank everyone that participated and I hope you enjoyed using it! If anything changes in the future that will allow me to provide the latest edited firmware, I will definitely be providing it here for you. I am using an S7 now so if you own one and like this work, there shall be downloads available there similar to this one. (Already testing).
Anyone that would like to continue on their own or have access to files used in making it I will try to include as much as possible from the link provided below by the end of October. There is currently a slightly outdated set of files and instructions (from June I believe) on how I made it already available.
Thanks Again!
Oct Security patch zip ready for download
Available with or without root AND with or without exo font - also an attempt to allow printing feature version. "Attempt" meaning I've placed a set of apk files into a separate and clearly labelled zip on the main download page that may allow proper use of the feature which has not been validated as operational by me or any other user. The "print fix" zip is rooted with exo font
This was made ONLY for the SM-A530W! Please do not use if not W (Canadian) variant. Check your phone info before attempting to flash
All ROMS/extras here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/12Vwzn1CxNdT-ISsrOnSL4D353Nr14iRb?usp=sharing
The ROM will function very well and does not require any special patches, kernels, etc except obviously TWRP
Any additional issues you face with added mods most likely will need to be addressed with the creator

You are free to use any ideas/changes included in the zip. In fact, I encourage you to do so. I've mostly pieced together work from other very difficult projects to create this. I followed your instructions. I was already updated to pie previous to flashing your rom. I am not able to get root. Any ideas why. I also have the Canadian version. Good job on the Rom, I like it. I wish I could get root.
Ok. I can't really suggest anything other than the obvious.
But you've let it boot once before trying, and are adding the apk as well after flashing magisk in twrp?
Hard to figure that one out. If you're using Magisk, i am assuming.

I know exactly what you mean. I do it all the time.
Nice you got it going. It's pretty lame if you don't root this. I just cut it up and added a couple things and they can be taken out, except radio and the recorder.
Curious if i got it right. If you're on anything other than VMC, is call recording and other micro features working? All the cscfeature xml files are decrypted so you can see what was done.
Everything seems to be working. I appreciate the work, Canadians are usually the last to get Roms. Most are made for the sm-a530f model. I was using the wrong method. One post said about waiting 166 hrs to reboot your phone after zipping RMM_State Bypass etc. etc.. Your way is simple. Once I get a chance I wlll have a look at what you have done, I work long hours. And as you said, what is the point if you cant root. Thanks again.

One post said about waiting 166 hrs to reboot your phone after zipping RMM_State Bypass etc. etc.. Your way is simple. Once I get a chance I wlll have a look at what you have done, I work long hours. And as you said, what is the point if you cant root. Thanks again.

It is 168 hours no reboots and rmm did work that rmm was for Oreo.
I think his would be fine but no guarantees.
Custom kernel 2.0 flash twice.
Light rom works without issue make sure you flash magisk.

Yeah bud. If you unzip the attached file, you can place it in /system/priv-app/ and make sure the permissions are set correctly for the folder and apk. Compare with other apps in the directoty and make it the same.
Then get the activity launcher app from the play store. Use that to make a link for it.

okay thanks for that. It is probably from my csc edits. I can adjust for freedom and hope it makes a difference.
Anything else to mention about it? What you did before flashing, are you using latest twrp, root or non root.... anything at all
no-verity... favourite snack... p.i.n. number(s)... oops sorry not the last two. My mistake. TOO MUCH info. Disregard.
Do a search on xda for rooting your model for the correct version of twrp. U will need no verify no encript. I used the latest Magisk to root. Supersu did not work. I used twrp for the A8 plus and had problems. Get the right one. It's a great rom. https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....ery-twrp-3-2-2-0-galaxy-a8-2018-t3818201/amp/
I am looking at the csc for FMC and it appears i have doubled an entry. I need to go over all of them to see if i've done it elsewhere. I will have 2 updated ones hopefully late tonight. (Takes forever to upload).
Not sure if that is the cause but i will definitely adjust it.
Quick question in regards to your Rom. I been using it for a while now. Its the best one I can find, I did post a few times at the start. By any chance, did u get adoptable storage working? I know Samsung removed it in Pie. I tried root essentials but still no luck. Thus is not my first time rooting or installing roms. I started with the HTC 1. Lol. So far, u have the best rom for the A8 2018. Its nice and clean. Almost compares with lineage in my opinion. Thanks again. And by the way, I am Canadian.
Thanks
Hey i appreciate the gesture but even though i "made" this, i did it because of other people. SuperR is an invaluable tool. Then you got magisk, the twrp recovery and heck even give ol' Sammy some credit, haha. All i did was spend time learning everything from this site. I can't stress that enough. I still have not paid for superR and i am going to see how i can right after this.
ANYWAY!
Your question. I've never attempted it but i am very certain there's a magisk module that'll do it.
It involved formatting sd to ext 4 or 3. So i will get on it. Got a few 64 gig cards to spare. If you have a computer, grab the superR linux distro. I've run it on 32 bit machines. K... pay superr... adopt a card heheh.
I will look again in the magisk module section. And I give everybody right now credit for all their hard work and sharing it amongst all of us. Thank you. Thank you. I love modding my phones and I could not do it without everybody's help. All my PC's are 64bit.
Nice. If you need any help just ask. Just bought the kitchen.
I'll have something very soon. Mexico's pie has the classic csc folder of old. I think we should unify with some fiesta pie zip ui sorta thingy... um rom.
