hi, im new in this android arena and this is my first time using smartphone so please forgive my noobness.
i want to root my phone Xiaomi Redmi 5A and i follow some tutorial on youtube where he told to use Minimal ADB & fastboot, TWRP, lazyflasher noverity and lastly Magisk.
im flashing my phone using this command on ADB:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot
i guess this is it so im rebooting my phone to get into twrp recovery mode by pressing volume up+power but it showed xiaomi stock recovery instead not twrp recovery.
so what i do wrong that i cannot get into twrp recovery menu?
please help me

i type that command after the first try not working (without fastboot reboot command)
it still gave me the same problem even not typing fastboot reboot command
Is the TWRP flash successful?
Ensure that your mobile drivers are installed properly on your pc and that you've enabled USB debugging.
Now after connecting your device to the computer :
1)open adb
2)type adb devices, if it shows a serial number then proceed
3)adb reboot bootloader
4)fastboot flash recovery xxxx.img
After this, remove the USB and reboot to recovery by Holding the appropriate combination of keys.
If you reboot your device first, and then power off and reboot to recovery, you will still get stock recovery.

Can anyone tell me where to find the fastboot drivers (win7 pro)
and how to enter fastboot mode?
I tried pwr+vol-down and got hard reset menu
pwr+vol-up rebooted to normal OS
adb devices does return
the serial number and
normal functions work
at regular boot mode.
I'd also like to know to reboot into recovery
[I did successfully use adb reboot recovery,
but hoped there was a button push to
enter bootloader or recovery]
adb reboot-bootloader and
adb reboot bootloader both
just reboot to normal OS.
thanks
I was trying to flash a custom ROM on my moto g xt1033. I used choosing the zip from USB otg after wiping and formatting everyrhing but. It flashed but a black screen came instead of cm logo and I was stuck at welcome to cm screen without touchscreen working. http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...4-4-4-help-t3019082/post58587594#post58587594
Then I tried side loading or pushing method. But problem is adb commands are not working in fastboot mode. They are working when phone is switched on. (Adb devices show serial number and device in normal mode) Fastboot commands are working fine in fastboot mode but not adb. When I type adb devices in fastboot mode there is nothing after list of device attached. So adb push or adb side load give me waiting for device or device not found result. Is it normal. Earlier I have latest Motorola device manager and latest android SDK. Tried uninstalling and installing them, tried changing USB ports, tried rebooting the phone and restarting windows pc several times but still no luck.!!
Yes, it's normal that ADB commands do not work in Fastboot mode. But you can access custom recovery from the fastboot screen.
@lost101 if adb commands do not work in fastboot mode then how "adb sideload" works when we clean install a ROM? Many threads at XDA say it should work

You have to be in a custom recovery (TWRP, CWM, Philz Touch) and enable the 'adb sideload' option.

It doesn't work on all versions of Windows; I think I've had it working in Windows 7. But I mainly use it in Linux - where no driver is required.
I also have windows 7.. Thanks Anyway

It's a driver issue. Your phone is not being recognised. If you boot a Linux LiveCD from DVD / USB, you can access recovery mode ADB that way.
sudo apt-get install android-tools-fastboot
Not sure if this will help but, after completely wiping my phone, I installed TWRP using fastboot commands, booted to TWRP, mount, copy ROM to moto g, and install using TWRP.
If you are in fastboot mode, type fastboot devices and see what happens.

Fastboot Devices command works flawlessly in fastboot mode. I can flash .IMG files. But none of adb commands working. When I type adb devices there is no result after List of Devices attached. So I can't sideload anything
I'm not 100% sure how adb works on the moto g but I don't think adb commands work in fastboot mode. When I connect my moto G to my computer after the ROM has booted and I am at the phone's desktop, I type "adb devices" and I see my device listed. Then I type "adb reboot-bootloader" to get into fastboot mode and adb commands no longer work.
I have Philz Touch on my Moto G and sideloading is an option. I don't think you can side load from fastboot.

I have no idea as I have never used adb to install anything except apk files when the phone has been booted to the desktop.
I always use fastboot commands to install recovery and install stock ROMs.
Using adb to side load may refer to the aibility to install files while the phone is running.

OK leave it. Do you have any idea how to increase 2g/3g speed. Any trick/mod/script?? I flashed cm11 quarx build and internet is painfully slow
Edit- no sideload means pushing a flashable zip to the root of internal storage when phone is in recovery mode. We do it for clean installing ROMs.(Format and wipe everything). After format there is no operating system left in phone so we do sideload rom

Sorry, I don't know how to increase speed except try a different radio/modem on your phone. I rarely use data on my phone because I have an iPad with LTE.

Sounds like your fastboot driver is working fine but your adb driver is not...go into your custom recovery and then check Device Manager in Windows to see if you have all your drivers working properly.
If you are having adb driver issues you could try the Universal adb driver setup file attached.
adb commands don't work in fastboot mode. Install a recovery (Preferably TWRP because I forget how CWM's adb sideload works). For TWRP, go to advanced, then adb sideload. Make sure to install the adb drivers tho, or else the sideload won't work. If you're sticking with stock, press the Vol+ button for about 15 secs, then tap the power button. Use the Vol- and + keys too scroll. There should be an option like "Install firmware through adb" or something. Scroll to that, then hit the power button to go to that option. Then, just sideload the firmware.
Check device manager 1st phone is conected properly
adb has no relation to fastboot.adb will not work while in fastboot, it never worked that way either.
There is no sideload while in fastboot, you're confusing it with the adb sideload, that has nothing to do with fastboot.
Reading and comprehension are desirable here.
I run for a problem to install custom recovery.
Running CO12s with bootloader unlocked. have installed on my windows 7 all necessary sdk tools and packages, on windows command i checked adb version and fastboot all is good.
Now after put device to fastboot mode trying flash TWRP, window command saying that write process ok but still no recovery installed, in developer options I did uncheck recovery update. now if I go to recovery (CO12 recovery) in recovery log I can see that recovery update mode is still "true" how i can turn this off, looks like is blocking access to install custom recovery or is any other solution??

Just had similiar issue, my solution provided by timmaaa:
Flash TWRP again & don't do a normal reboot. After flashing is complete disconnect usb while in fastboot mode, use power + volume down to boot directly into recovery.
Also during command process make sure to use code: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img then skip the fastboot reboot & follow timmaaa's instructions above. Worked for me.
Force reboot to recovery fixed problem
I have a Koodo LG P500H. I am having a very hard time installing TWRP.
Firstly Play store doesn't work. It has this old thing called "Market" that has some apps, but not all. Market eventually gets updated to Playstore, but I can't even find TWRP manager. There was another app in the Playstore that I tried called ROM Manager. It said it installed TWRP for me. I restarted the phone, and nothing happened.
Restarting and Holding power/volume down/home will show a picture that seems to be some sort of recovery mode. But it only run for 1-2 seconds before the phone restarts itself. Nothing happens.
I tried to use ADB. But after rebooting the device it just restarted without ever going into recovery mode. So the flash command just get stuck at "Waiting for Device." Does this phone even have a recovery mode?
This phone doesn't support Odin.
I am used to using TWRP. Without it I cannot flash the phone into new OS.
And every single time I fail, the whole phone seems to have reformatted. So I have to enter in my wifi password and gmail again. All of that typing on a very small keyboard takes a lot of time. I had spent hours on this phone without getting TWRP working.
Please help.

The problem is when I reboot into fastboot (adb reboot bootloader), the phone will go into "phone off battery charging mode". It never actually goes into the bootloader.
Ok I did the following and it seems fastboot and TWRP works now. Be sure to enable USB Debugging on your P500.
1) Fastboot tutorial (I did everything here. I hit "ok" on the LGMDP 1.5 tool as needed. Do not wait till the countdown timer goes to zero.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15122833&postcount=100)?
FastBoot Tutorial
1. Please download this (or from here) file and unzip it in to any folder.
2. Start LGMDP 1.5 tool with the phone connected (you need to have USB drivers installed) and click on Select Port
3. A separate window should appear like the one below
Just click connect
4. Another window will take shape (LGE Mobile security) with lots of options (links)
Click on the first upper right Browse and select the folder in with you have unzipped the files. You will get some errors that some image, table or headers are missing. Just click OK and in the end everything that should remain selected is Partition Table, APPSBL Image Header and APPSBL Image.
Now just close the window (click on x)
5. Now you are back on the main window and here you'll have to click on Download
6. You are almost done and from now on everything should go on automatically.
NV Backup
Autorestart in Emergency\Download mode and upgrade the files (you selected on step 4)
NV Restore (the last step) Do not disconnect the USB cable until the restore is done
Wait for the phone to restart in normal mode (your current rom).
That should be everything you need to do to get fastboot enabled.

2) Install PdaNet+ (This was the only thing I did in this tutorial. It fixed the usb driver and the fastboot can then communicate with my PC.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350733
http://pdanet.co/a/
(Note: On top of Partition Table, APPSBL Image Header and APPSBL Image in step 4, I also selected the TWRP image file as my RECOVERY image. Not sure if this make a difference. )
(Note 2: I think you can also get the LG drivers here.)
3) Restart, hold down power + home to boot to the fastboot. Or in ADB type adb reboot bootloader.
4) Open ADB (while phone is still in fastboot mode) and type fastboot flash recovery twrp.img (after downloading the TWRP image, renaming it and moving it to my ADB root folder. I am using TWRP 2.8.0.1 here.)
5) Type fastboot reboot
6) After the phone restarts, type adb reboot recovery. TWRP runs for me. Power+Home+Volume Down (3 button combo) also works now. (Previously this would reset the phone.)
Hey Man, im glad it worked. I could use your help.
I bricked my phone and need the restore file, Do you think you could make a backup from TWRP and upload it?
I would be super grateful.
Thank you.
Here is a zip with CM11, twrp 3.0.2.0 and Gapps for CM11.
Its the best rom I found.

Hi. What is your "brick" like? Does your TWRP still run? If yes you can just copy a custom OS into your Microsd card and install it from your Microsd.
You can also use ADB push to move files from your PC to the phone.
http://www.androidauthority.com/android-customization-transfer-files-adb-push-adb-pull-601015/
Sent from my MT2L03 using XDA-Developers mobile app
If you TWRP doesn't run, you need to install that first. Do steps 3 and 4 in the above post to boot into bootloader and install TWRP.
Code:
TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! This could brick your phone. It shouldn't but it can. If you brick your phone, or anything stops working on your phone, YOU are responsible.
Reboot combinations:
Fastboot: Shutdown and with USB cable hold power and volume down until it says FASTBOOT MODE at the bottom
Recovery: Shutdown and with USB cable hold power and volume down until the
Code:
Please release key to power off *
dissapears.
Unlocking Bootloader
Code:
Note: This will delete all user data! Backup all your data before doing this!
This part of the guide is part of the tutorial made by @Arin59 at https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-3/how-to/method-to-unlock-bootloader-nokia-3-pie-t4012285
First of all convert your serial number (should look like NE1*************) to MD5 Hash and enable OEM Unlock in developer options.
Then reboot to fastboot and type
Code:
fastboot oem key {HASH}
then type
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
.
To reboot to Android, run fastboot reboot.
Installing TWRP
Code:
This will delete your user data, but it should be already deleted.
You can use any TWRP image made for this device but I had the most success with https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-3/development/twrp-teamwin-recovery-nokia-3-t3762512 .
Flash your TWRP Image chosen with
Code:
fastboot flash recovery your-recovery-image.img
and then reboot to recovery.
In TWRP go to Wipe and then Format Data and type yes.
Install Magisk
Install Magisk normally.
< waiting for device >
I put the phone in fastboot mode and ran fastboot with the oem key md5 hash command but it just said "< waiting for device >". I think it might be because I forgot to install the Nokia 3 USB drivers. I'm using a linux computer, do I need to find OS specific drivers?
edit: And now my phone is stuck in fastboot mode and for some reason will not shutdown no matter how long I hold down the power button for.

If you're using a linux computer, you should try running the command with sudo.
If it doesn't work, try with another cable (or computer if it doesn't work) and try again.

Thanks. I've since got it working. For some reason I had to use the -i argument (the interface argument) along with the code for the device (0x2e04) "fastboot -i 0x2e04 <command>".
However, I've recently bypassed the "NO COMMAND" screen and gained access to TWRP custom recovery but in trying to shut down the phone, it shuts down fine but only boots up in fastboot mode. Even using the fastboot reboot command from adb tools boots it up in fastboot mode. This is a problem as I need to boot it in its normal mode so I can download the magisk.zip file required for installing magisk but I seem to be unable to do so.

Thanks, it worked.
Though I tried wiping, but it didn't solve the booting issue. Unsure how to proceed at this point. I feel like I've tried everything. Actually, I just checked my /boot folder and it's empty...is that why it's always booting into fastboot?
I tried using adb to sideload the magisk.zip file but then the phone rebooted into stock recovery??
Any and all guides on this say to download the magisk.apk either into the SD card or internal storage, but I don't have a micro SD card and I can't access the normal mode of the phone to download anything.
What can I do?
I've flashed TWRP successfully but forgot to download the magisk.apk. Now whenever I boot up my phone, it boots into stock recovery mode automatically, even if I tell TWRP to reboot into system it reboots into Stock Android recovery. I can still access TWRP by holding down the up + power buttons on boot though, but I can't access the normal mode of the phone anymore.
I tried using TWRP's sideload feature with ADB tools to sideload Magisk.zip and it said it succeeded but in using TWRP's install feature to find the zip file, it wasn't in /sideload/ or /storage/ as both were empty.
How can I temporarily restore normal functionality so I can simply download the Magisk manager.apk?
