Where are ringtones and notification sounds stored? - General Questions and Answers

I can't find the new ring tones on my phone or my old ringtones on my old SD card. Do I need to be using a different file manager to find them?

Stock location is root/system/media/audio

No problem ☺

For anyone else who couldn't find it, it could also be located at /system/product/media/audio/ringtones

Holy hell, thank you for this, I was searching all over my phone's filesystem like a madman trying to find this. It must be a change in android 11 or something. I wanted to find Tethys.ogg to bring to my new phone and was baffled that everything from google suggested the /system/media/audio and I didn't even have a media folder...
(sorry for necro-bumping)

None on these folders contain it. Any hint where system ringtones might be? I want to back it up in case they remove it. I'm running Android 11.

Modifying Rom

Ok, so I have downloaded a couple of ROM ... CM, NSCollab, Oxygen, Infinity, Liquid and 2 more.
Would it be possible for me to for example to open the rom zip file and add a couple of ringtones to the particular folder that contains ring tones? Can I also take out/delete the ones I don't like?
The second part ... taking out apps I don't need or adding some? How about that? Not safe for a novice like me? Or is it easy?
Thanks
yes its literally just as easy as you said. you can do exactly that, remove apks from the ROM, remove or add ringtones, then flash your own custom ROM.

yes, simple answer. or you can flash the rom, then add/remove what you like. whichever is easiest for you.
Hey ... thanks for those replies!
Simms22, the reason I wanted to modify the zip file is that when I manually copied the ringtones to the right folder in my phone, I ended up with a lot of duplicates ... a duplicate for each ringtone that I had earlier. This inspite of the fact that I had said overwrite.
Thanks again
Ok! So, I took the Oxygen Rom as base ... tried deleting a couple of ringtones ... no luck ... it just would not.
I then tried adding a ring tone and no luck there either
Do you think it would be ok if I extracted the whole thing, deleted, added and played with it before zipping it all up it would be fine?
Do you think there would be signing issues?
Thanks again for any help
If you aren't already, try using Winrar (assuming your in windows) to add/delete ringtones..
Otherwise, you should be able to extract it, make the changes and zip it back up.. In CWM, you can toggle signature verification on/off. Turn it off n' flash..

Requesting S3 Alarm Clock APK

After rooting my S3, I got a little over zealous uninstalling all the bloatware. As such, I mistakenly deleted the alarm clock (ya know, the one that works with S Voice). Does anyone have the apk for the stock touchwiz alarm clock? The only downloads I can find are modded versions ported for other phones.
Thanks in advance.
You should be able to download a stock rom and search the zip. Normally they are located in the \system\app directory. Make sure you match permissions with other system apps.

I downloaded "BeansStockR3.1". Since I am a new member, I can't post a direct link, but it was the only google result when searching for exactly that. Also, I PMed you a link directly to the ClockPackage.apk.

I typically put all these apk's in a box or dropbox account. Comes in handy for sharing with friends n stuff.

Hi there, this is how i fixed my alarm problem
firstly download the clock apk relavent to your phone, i think that there are 3 different ones provided in this thread.
Secondly you need to download something from the play store called "Rom toolbox pro" its £3 but if you ask in the forums here someone can probably point you to a free one that does the same thing.
make sure your phone is rooted, install and run Rom toolbox pro. click on Root Browser, navigate to where you put the APK on your phone, copy and move it to root/system/app. Once you have moved the apk find it in the app folder, click and hold it for a couple of seconds. A menu should popup with options, click on "permissions" set them so they are like this. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2pphiyo&s=6 If you are using a different app you will need to set your permissions accordingly, yet again im sure there is someone on here clever enough to help with that.
Now just restart your phone, the APK will run on boot.
These are the exact steps i followed and they worked for me. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2h353dl&s=6
I hope you have the same luck
Steve

Im having a weird issue. After a reboot my phone plays the ui sounds, but not the notification ones. They also dont show up in the notification sounds list. Thought it might be a permission issue, but these notification files have the same permissions as the ui ones. Any ideas?

[Help] External Sdcard andoid folder read only

Good Evening/Hello/Hi,
I own a Motorola Moto g3 2015 and I am running stock firmware (6.0.1), unrooted and bootloader locked. When I try to move any files from external sdcard android folder FX explorer says the content is read only, in es explorer I can copy and paste in any other location and then delete the content from android folder. There is no Cut and Paste from external sdcard android folder only copy and paste. I can delete or rename the files or folders, create new file/folders.
Is this a problem in every marshmallow devices, is there anyone else who faces this issue. This makes issues when I need to move a file which is larger then the free space of sdcard, because direct cut and paste is not possible.
Thank You
This is a problem with Android M, and a fix is in the works at the moment. Search it up, others have your problem. I don't know, maybe they will find a solution

I actually have not followed the Android M fixes, as I am stuck with Android L, but you can check it out if you wish. Good luck, and you're welcome!
EDIT: I believe it may use the same method as the old Kitkat fix for read/write permissions for External SD, but I haven't checked up on it for months.

You should find root folder and there is subfolder called system. Easiest way to do it is in twrp under advanced and pick file manager. But you have to mount system storage first.
Thank you so much boss..... it is working very fine, I've been searching this bootanimation for long time.....
