Maybe a dumb question and I see a lot of people wanting the opposite but is there any way to get back the old behavior of the search bar in app drawer, so that it only searches for installed apps instead of searching the web and everything?
For "real" search I use the search bar on homescreen or assistant, but in app drawer it should only show installed apps.

You could use a third party launcher to get that functionality

On the Vibrant, there would be multiple icons in its drawer to access the same app, only approaching it so that you land on different tabs. On the MT4G, for instance, the Peep app is entirely missing. It appears you can only access the built-in Twitter app via the widget?
There was also a nice 'quick find' app that you can't access from the drawer. In it, there were multiple entries along the bottom where you could use the same search term in various area of the web, such as Wiki, youtube, google, etc. It reminded me of the Dragon search on the iphone.

yes I realized that too and on the other hand plain android 2.2 applications like the genius news widget is missing completely.
The 'Quick find' app appears when you select text within the default web browser. It's very nice!
There are definitely apps present that are not accessible directly from the drawer in Sense. Install LauncherPro or ADW and you'll notice about 20 additional apps (approximate by a quick scan) in their app drawers. I think these are apps accessible via other apps/functions in Sense so atte hidden in the app drawer. For example, the FM Radio is not available in the Sense app drawer, but is in LP. In Sense it is accessed via Media Room. We should be given the option in Sense on what to display -this is one reason I'm using LP+.

Is there an android launcher app which can replace the app drawer?
It really bugs me that the apps are in two places - on my desktop and in my app drawer, this makes the app drawer very messy and unorganized.
I've never understood the concept of showing one app in two places.
Maybe there is an app to disable app drawer - all apps show up on desktop, together with widgets etc. or another way would be to hide apps from the drawer in case they are already on desktop
I dont know if this what youre looking for but try to search "awd ex" in the market

Is there possibility to hide any app or make a separate tab with chosen apps in app drawer without whole launcher. Its so annoying when search any app to see all useless samsung apps or apps that are needed but you never use them with start within app drawer. Some kind of favorite apps or something ... ? Also search functionality in app drawer ?
Is there a tested app which can hide app icons from the Google Now's App Drawer in Lollipop?
I'm almost ready to take the plunge and upgrade to 5.0 forfeiting Xposed Framework and a few modules I've been using, but one thing which would be annoying me constantly is the cluttered app drawer.
So anyone who has upgraded to 5.0 already -- have you tested any apps which allow you to hide app icons from the Google Now's app drawer? CCSWE App Manager looks promising -- has anyone tested it in 5.0? Any better apps you can recommend?
I definitely do not want to freeze or disable any apps, just want to hide their icons *from the drawer*, for example I may want to have an icon shown on the desktop, but not in the drawer.
Thanks!
I would also like to know this.
I tried App Hider from the Play store, but of course, it doesn't work to hide the apps. Plus, you have to be rooted. Hopefully, the developer will update the app soon.
Well, I went ahead and flashed 5.0 and rooted. However none of the apps I've tried from the playstore (tried like 5-6) could hide icons from the app drawer. In the retrospect I should have probably rebooted (or at least restarted the launcher) after trying some of them -- I haven't as none of the apps I've tried instructed me to do so.
So if you stumble upon an app which works -- wherever with or without root, please post away.
Whoa, I was still searching for potential solutions and found this: http://www.usoftsmart.com/t289594.html
I use apex launcher and it has the ability to hide apps in the drawer. I tried it to ensure it still works on 5.0 and yep. Of course you may not want to change launchers for this.
Thank you for your feedback, but yeah, as indicated in the topic I want to stay with Google Now launcher and want to hide app icons in its drawer.
Anyone has tried anything recently? What worked, what didn't?
Anyone, anyone? Bueller, Bueller?
Xposed for Lollipop + Xposed GEL Settings, just like on KitKat.

Highlighted the key part for you.
Hi everyone.... Loving my new Mate 9 but have a question.... I know that if I want an app drawer that can have custom folders in the drawer I can do so by using a third-party launcher, like Nova. I have been a loyal Nova user for years as a matter of fact. That said, when I got the M9 I was intrigued by the stock launcher. At first, I just used it with no app drawer and made folders on some home screens but now I'm wondering..... is there anyway to BOTH use the app drawer, AND make folders in that app drawer instead of just having every app shown individually, in alpha order?
My other question would be..... If I use the app drawer and drag an app onto the homescreen, is there any way to have it NOT also show up in the app drawer? I think the app drawer would be far less cumbersome to search through if those apps already showing on the homescreen didn't also have to be shown in the app drawer.
I hope my questions are clear. Thanks everyone!
I hope there is a folder solution as you describe. I too would like to better organize my app drawer.
Yes! Thank you! My thoughts exactly. Any app (not launcher) based solution out there?
