I bought what I thought was a SM-G955FD turns out it's a SM-G9550. An the worst thing is that Samsung say the imei is not for the phone. And won't fix it under warranty they say might of been stolen and new imei installed.
Every test I run says it's a SM-G955FD how do they fake that, even the serial number is fake?

How are you so sure its a 9550 of every test says 955fd?
Its written on the back in small print didn't notice it
Where did you get it from?
Well, I suppose there may be ways to return the phone to a stock IMEI through Samsung?
Bought it back to the shop I got it from once I told him it's illegal in the UK he changed his tune offered me a unopened note 8 for £100 more so bye bye s8 hello note 8 ?

HI Team,
I bought the Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE aka: SHV-E120S.
Strangely I see that while entering the code *#06# to display the IMEI, it never shows up. Inside the battery compartment though I find that there is a s/n & IMEI printed.
I also checked in the <Settings> <About Phone> <Status>, the IMEI does not show up there as well.
I am getting a feeling that the seller who sold the phone to me might have tried unlocking the phone for my use in India. I am not able to get a proper answer here as well as the phone box was sealed.
Can I please have some help here from the forum to understand how to rectify this or what I could do now
I am not sure if I would be able to use in India as well as the Govt mandates IMEI and I believe this is same in all countries.
Works in the US

I was worried about the same thing. I bought mine from an auction on ebay. But it came preloaded with all sorts of Korean apps. The company said they would take it back, but I would have to ship it back to HK. T-Mobile was able to offer me service without an IMEI. Works Great! Now I am going to root it so I can get rid of all the Korean stuff.
So the other day I traded an iPhone 6+ for a Galaxy S6.
The person had the unlock code and entered it infront of me to prove that it worked, and the box was sealed before he opened it, along with a receipt.
However, this is were the issue has seem to come to light.
I did a factory reset after the fact so I could do a proper set up (didn't realize the S6 didn't do the stanadard android set up?), and to my surprise the IMEI number was lost along with the S/N in the settings.
I managed to get the IMEI back, and when I dial *#06# I get the proper IMEI and S/N.
When I go into the settings app, I get the proper IMEI, however my S/N is showing as 1234567890ABCDEF
My Device is a SM-G920W8 (Canadian), yet after the factory reset my device now shows the following:
Android Version 5.0
Baseband Version G920FXXU1AOBN
Build Number LRX22G.G920FXXU1AOBN
Custom Build Version SEPF_SM_G920F_5.0.2_008
I also get this error message when trying to do a software update - "Your system was damaged, wireless update is disabled!"
I can access Recovery mode, however my Download mode has been replaced by a chinese menu.
So I guess my question is, is there a way to fix this myself, or do you think the carrier will replace the device?
Attaching a photo to better show what I mean
I'm having the same issue. How'd you get your IMEI back? Mine gives a different one when I call *#06# than is written on the back of my phone.

Did you purchase this from a legit carrier store?
If the Download mode is in Chinese I'm afraid you've bought a fake S6.
Demand a refund and threaten to report them if they don't refund.
EDIT:
Another indicator of a fake, the screenshot you posted is only 1280x720 in resolution which these fake S6's usually are. A real S6 will produce screenshots of resolution 2560x1440.
Seriously OP, demand a refund and be firm with the guy.

Unfortunately, you probably also have a fake.
Damn these fake sellers. Does anyone know how to prosecute these guys? Would calling the local cops be enough? What crime does this fall under, fraud? I just hate seeing how these fake S6's and fake iPhones are getting more and more popular.
Your screenshot shows Android version 5.0. There is no version 5.0 for the Galaxy S6, only 5.0.2. Your device is a fake Galaxy S6.
A fugazy
Hi, how did you get the IMEI back ( restored) ??
Also got a fake one with no IMEI
You all should post the link or seller details where you purchased it, to help others not fall for this.

Did you purchase the phone brand new or second hand? Is the imei there or just missing? If it's missing it doesn't matter if it's sim unlocked or not it won't work on any GSM carrier if your imei is missing or has been black listed (reported stolen or for none payment)
purchased brand new but subsidized through ATT Next
I have 3 months to get it back on
I screwed up but found another job so ill be back on track
But yeah I was thinking of doing the imei repair method
its a service where it spoofs your phone with another imei to unblacklist it

Before changing your imei which is illegal I would contact AT&T and see if there is an arrangement you guys can come to. I suggest exhausting all legitimate means before paying someone to change your imei
I bought a samsung galaxy s5 off ebay 3 months ago. It would not update and i found it would not update due to the phone being rooted. I installed a stock rom and all worked fine. After using the phone for 3 months now the phone will not make or receive calls or texts. I called orange and they informed me the imei is blacklisted due to the phone being reported stolen. I paid checkmend for an imei report and the report has a red warning next to currently blocked but but under lost and stolen it says clear. I have also noticed that the imei on the back of the phone is not the same imei that the phones board has. I have opened a claim for a refund via Paypal on the matter.
My questions are as follows:
Do you think someone has changed the imei of the phone before I purchased phone?
When I flashed the phone back to a stock rom would this have changed the imei ?
My concern is that if I get refunded by the ebay seller or paypal and I return the phone would the buyer blame the phones imei problem on me as I changed back to a stock rom which has a different brand (virgin)
Thanks in advance for any help/advice
One post removed.
Talk of changing or altering imei numbers is not allowed on XDA, as it's illegal in most areas.
Members are free to offer ideas, but not tampering with the imei manually.
Thanks!

Probably not, since it is illegal and the seller wouldn't risk doing a crime just to sell a phone. I can't give you a definite answer though.

It is possible., but unlikely.

You won't get a refund if that's the case. If the seller admits to have changed the IMEI before selling it to you, or if he didn't pay off the phone or etc., then you get a refund. This is very common, people would buy the phone and sell it right away, making profit and eventually leaving a blacklisted phone to the buyer. If his reason was that you changed the ROM, then he will probably win the dispute. You should ask for a return though, if you get a refund, then you can get another phone, if not, then you're just at the same place you're at right now.
When i bought a "new" note edge off Ebay early this year it was sold as a 915F model, When i got it it was a 915T which was ok as
I was a Tmobile customer. However i wanted to update the firmware and i was told to download a run a program called samsung phone info. And I found out that somehow my phone was really a 915A i have no idea how they faked it but it acted like a tmobile
phone and even worked on wifi calling on tmobile. anyways i wanted to get 6.0 android on it and found tha i had to use the AT&T firmware, so i hunted it down and installed it, and it worked fine for a few months. Now for some reason it locks up and reboots on its on and i would really like to go back to the Tmobile firmware that it had. How would i do this? I have been told that its impossible to load another brand of firmware on a phone? Does anyone have any idea how i can but tmobile note edge firmware on
my phone? is it true that i cant switch? and if so how in the heck did they do it when i bought it? I know they must have been good as behind the battery if even has a fake samsung/tmobile sticker with fake imei and serial numbers on it. At least fake compared to what the Samsung phone app tells me the S/N and IMEI are? Any ideas? I look forward to hearing back from you all.
Thanks Ron

I don't know about your programming problem, but it almost sounds like that phone was cobbled together from spare parts.
