question about battery replacements - Moto Maxx Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone
i bought my quark on february 2015 and had it on stock rom until mid last year. The reason was that my battery became unrealiable and it would shut down anytime from 20% battery, and it wouldnt turn on, appearing on the screen an image of a full drained battery.
i bought a moto g4 plus but it wasnt the same, so i went and started searching for a new battery. i found one and bought it and the same guy installed it on the spot.
the thing was that it had the same problem. At any time between 0% and 20% it shut down.
i asked about the problem to the guy who did the replacement and he told me that that problem may be because of the motherboard... i didnt completely understood it at the time, still dont, but still used my quark even with that problem.
i want to ask you guys about your experience with buying replacement batteries. Now i just bought from aliexpress a replacement battery from a manufacturer called losoncoer. i did this because amazon and ebay wouldnt ship any batteries to my country (Chile), and the battery says it has a total of 4.300 mah, thats more than the original battery. I wouldnt trust too much to these numbers, but nevertheless i wanna try it.
im gonna wait for it to arrive, change it and give you my review. i hope it works well

Now happens something weird. It seems like the battery gets disconected inside my quark, and it doesnt save what happens.
In the pics you can see what i'm saying. Even though it just shuted down, there it says there was a longer time.
The screen on time was like 2:50, and now ir says 2:34. It misses like 20 mins of time, Even though it was on.

Battery Solution - Anyone brave enough ?

Has anyone seen this or tried it ? It seems that no one has cooked their battery. I went to three Cingular stores today trying to find a replacement battery without success. I ended up buying an over-priced car charger just so I could return a few calls as I drive home.

... seen what exactly? I see a very short blog entry about a guy and his battery problem, and 109 responses to it. I'm not sure where the bravery part kicks in, unless I'm missing something.
It's this part :
Take a USB cable cut off one end and expose the red and black wire. Touch the black to the negative pole of the battery and the red to +, directly.
The other end of the USB cable goes into the computer's USB port.
I have now tried this and am in the midst of charging my phone. I'll send an update later today
batteries don't last forever. Mine died and i had the same issue you had. I called every Cingular store around and none had them. Finally found one 30 minutes away for $60 so i bought it and then ordered 2 spares for $20/each online. the online ones took forever and a day to get here, but i now have spares.

When you say it was the same issue, was it general battery life, or specific applications ?
For me, it was making phone calls. The battery drain seemed not to change much during a call compared to idle at ~130mA but the drain was phenomenal. Compare this to leaving BT, GPRS, push E-Mail and WiFi which caused a gradual drain during the day. It led me to thinking this was a software issue, therefore why waste money on a spare battery ?
If this helps, I think I will buy a battery before this one dies completely on me.

ok sounds like a different issue. my battery would not hold a charge. nothing to do with software issues.

I had nothing but trouble with the battery with every single WM6 ROM I tried. Thinking it was software, heard stories about calibration. Tried the draining complete, and then recharing, nothing seemed to solve the absurd battery drain problem. I often switched back to my good old Nokia (they just won't die) during the day due to a critical battery level. Sometimes even after only a few phone calls.
I replaced my battery a few weeks ago and since then I haven't had a single day I had to recharge during the day. It lasts all day, like it used to.
Maybe it's WM6, maybe it's a battery calibration problem, or any other software related problem. But I for one am very happy I invested those bucks in a new battery, I now can finaly really enjoy my WM6 wizard.

I've had problems with the phone resetting constantly for months and then eventually, the phone not being able to charge. The phone is not that old, and Li-ion batteries don't die that quickly. Nevertheless, I bought a new one on ebay with the same results. Turns out, my power connection was loose despite what appeared to be a solidly soldered connection to the board. I had to almost pry it off and readjust it. Now it works fine. Talk about pain in the ass.

Battery + external charger from ebay

I just ordered the battery + external charger from ebay. They are originally for nexus one, but I think the battery is the same, isn’t it? It might take a while before I receive it, especially with the eruption.

might be worth somoen investigating if its a common battery with any other htc phones
It's pretty clear the Nexus One and the Desire use the same standard battery - both have the same part number BA-S410.
I received my battery today the from same seller, i don't know if its defective, but i have charced it fully and it works ok, but when i try to take a pic with flash or use flash app it will shut the phone off.. tho i ordered another one a week ago as i thought maybe ill need few extra if im gonna heavy use my phone somewhere.. So i'll see in few weeks will that another one work or not..

As I recall correctly, I ordered an aftermarket battery for my xperia x1 on eBay, I had the same thing happen, the phone shut down on itself when I received a call, even though the battery took a full charge. So I believe you got a real bad battery.
I wouldn't skimp when it comes to buying a battery or for that matter a charger. That charger OP reminds me so much of the cheap charger and battery I bought for my psp a few years back, the battery only lasted for 5 mins and the charger caught fire.

Got a message from seller that it is a faulty one and he will send me another, hope new one works.. history show's that 40 of those batteries have been allready sold, so i guess they work fine as no-one else has complained about them!

Any update about your Order?
Quick update from me:
Received a new battery last week and its working, last one was really defective.. I havn't measured with any machine is it really 1400mah, but i dont notice it to be any weaker than the original battery!
Nexus battery its a little thinner from the edges and it can drop off if you don't have your back cover on.
I already used that battery, and it works well..
It definitely has a lower capacity compare with the original one, but can still give one full day of normal usage.
Also, it is not too small, it is a little bit bigger than the original, so it a little bit too tight, but it fits well though...
The charger also works fine, but takes like 4 hours for full charge.

Tmobile phone/battery/charger warrenty replacement issues....ugh..

I bought my G2X around the end of April.
the USB became very loose and would rarely charge even when it shows it is charging after jiggling the plug to get it to work. Ive tried this with multiple chargers.
if i do get any sort of charge its no more than 10% and it discharges very fast about 1% in less than a minute. you can actually watch it drain.
the wall charger itself also does not charge, yet when i plug the wall charger USB cable into a PC USB it will slow charge.
yesterday I went to the local Tmobile store to order a replacement and the replacement phone showed up today without a battery so i still cant use it.
the new phone has been charging the old battery for hours and still has only 1%
I called Tmobile customer service and they tell me I have to choose between the battery OR the charger I cant have both, then I'm told I will have to pay $7 and change for GROUND shipping.
I explain the phone is around 8 months old, under warranty, I have insurance. and i know PLENTY of people that have had batteries shipped to them free of charge and they get to keep the old battery.
I know i can just get another wall charger from Ebay cheap but that's not the point
Im not trying to get something for free, i just want the phone,charger & battery that I paid over $500 for + insurance to actually work without me having to pay extra for it.
has anybody else had this issue?
it seems everyone else that has had battery and phone issues ( there have been plenty ) had a much ,much easier time and better experience than i am getting

well if u had to choose i would take the battery. they cost more then a charger does. but that is stupid they are telling u to choose between the two. i havent had to replace my battery or charger yet so idk if there are always like that. but i bought an extra oem lg battery just to have.

That's terrible to do. Batteries die over time, and quickly when sitting idly by just waiting to be used.

I doubt that battery is sitting for very long.. if you even think about using the phone you lose 15% battery charge lol.
Im willing to bet he keeps a charged spare to swap in later in the day.
Id like to do that myself because I have never been able to make it 6-8 hours without a charge even on light use.
I love android but Im increasingly tired of the horrible battery life on every android device & Tmobile bending me over and screwing me. I read all these stories about great customer service but i always get the person that barely speaks English, replies from a script regardless of what i say and they never seem to care to offer any real help.
I want a damn phone that i can use as intended and only needs to be charged over night. sure maybe not streaming all day but at least everything else

Seriously, battery life is an issue with ALL smartphones. Look at all the ios users complaining about battery life, there are plenty. And, they can't swap batteries.
As far as T-Mobile goes, their replacement policy is no worse than any other carrier. If you have insurance as well, that would cover your shipping.

True but Ive NEVER had an android last anywhere near any of my friends Iphones as far as battery life is concerned (havent compared the newest model though). I can spend a whole day with an Iphone user and My phone is ON the chargers as often as theirs is off.
If I wasnt in love with the Screen size and HDMI out I would go back to my N1 <3

Btw, now that I'm not on Mobile, I can make a more complete response...
*puts on the old PDA Tech hat*.. yes I used to work in a T-Mobile Tier 2 PDA support... I supported Android, WinMo & Blackberry devices. Mostly blackberry, LOL, those things were terribly unreliable.... I trained on the G1, MyTouch3G, Cliq, Behold II (ugh) and Nexus 1.. though they wouldn't actually give us Nexus 1 devices to handle for some reason.
Anyway.... you can tell how old my info is now, so take it with a grain of salt, some policies may have changed.
First, insurance should cover shipping. Without insurance you pay shipping, with it you don't. If they told you otherwise, ask them when the policy about that changed. Also if you've paid shipping once in the past 30 days and it didn't resolve your problem, they are supposed to waive shipping on subsequent exchanges even without insurance.
They will NEVER send you a complete package of battery, phone AND charger all at the same time. The reason is simple: For all 3 to go bad is incredibly rare. If proper troubleshooting steps are followed, you can eliminate which one is the cause of the issue. If you cannot eliminate one of the 3 by testing at a T-Mobile store, they will normally send you the battery first.
The reason they did NOT send you a battery first was because you mentioned your charge port was loose. That's a phone issue, not a battery issue. Again, very rarely do TWO OR THREE separate devices go bad all at the same time, so you replace the one that's obviously bad first.
Now, you have a new phone and still have issues. Chances are it's the charger or the battery - but again, rarely both. Pick one. If you're unsure, then go to a t-mobile store and ask them to let you charge your phone for a bit on THEIR charger and see if you can see a difference.
Why they won't send you both, as I've said above, is it is very rare for both to go bad at the same time. Proper diagnostics (trying another battery and/or charger) should determine which is at fault.
If they were in the habit of replacing EVERYTHING any time a customer had a problem, then costs would go through the roof and your device would cost much more.
EDIT: As far as battery life... keep in mind that an original iPhone has a much slower processor than new Androids and didn't even support 3G (which uses more battery) in its first incarnation. The smaller screen on an iPhone also impacts battery life positively, whereas the bigger and brighter screens on many Android take more battery to power. Plus, Android has the capability to do much more multitasking, which leads to more processor usage. You have to be careful what apps you install because of that - or do as I do and use "Autostarts" from the market to prevent apps that believe they are special and should start up at all sorts of system events. Autostarts is much better than a task killer ever could be because it prevents an app from starting up on its own in the first place, and in the end, is a very positive influencer of battery life.

as far as testing all 3 devices thats already been done. the Tmobile store tested the phone and battery and agreed it wouldnt charge over 1% and the USB is loose and needs to be wiggled to work ( if you are lucky )
the old battery has been in the new phone charging all day. It wont charge over 1%
if I plug either phone into the factory wall charger its as if I havent done anything, phone doesnt recognize its being charged unless i use PC USB or my Motorolla 950mah car charger. and again its only getting to 1% and turning off.
I explained all this to customer service and as usual i get the scripted reply. We are sorry for your inconvenience but i wont really help you blah blah
So far Tmobile customer service has been worse than Sirius and thats saying ALOT. i wish they were more like Zappos. customer service there is nothing short of shockingly amazing.
I called to say I accidentally clicked the wrong size sneakers and the rep called the warehouse, stopped the order before it shipped out. sent the correct size next day air getting it to me EARLY and signed me up to the VIP service which gets me next day shipping on all my future orders. because of that I have ordered with them many times since.
Im not expecting Tmobile to go that far but it would be nice to have what I paid for working without all this hassle and any cost

Well, I admit a lot could be done to make technical support better. However, it's an industry-wide issue, not just with T-Mobile and not even specifically with cell phones.
While it *is* possible for all 3 to go bad, you have to look at it from the viewpoint as well of the tech rep sitting in a cramped and noisy cubicle all day. 99% of the calls she gets are because people forgot their Google password and are locked out of their phone due their kid enabling pattern lock. They don't even KNOW they have a Google account in the first place! Then the T-Mobile store wipes their phone, and they wonder how to get all their contacts back.. you know, the ones safely stored on their Google account... to which they do not know the password.
And then, they get your call. You say your phone, battery AND charger all 3 went bad? If the rep were to replace all 3, she would lose her job if that call happened to be graded. Why? Not following proper troubleshooting.
It's frustrating, I know, as the customer who actually does have a problem with all 3 at the same time. But that is an outlying case. 99% of the time, only 1 of the 3 devices were actually faulty to begin with.
In my experience, customers would ALWAYS demand a new phone first, when I was pretty sure it was the battery at fault. Most of the time it WOULD turn out to be the battery as well. Batteries fail a lot more often than people suspect. Except, that by demanding a new phone first, now they've sent back a perfectly good phone, and have a refurb which could have its OWN issues.
I would almost always try to start by replacing the battery first, but most customers would shoot that down.
In your case, as I said, the loose USB port indicated a phone problem, so they started in the correct place with replacing the phone.
Anyway, back to your last post.... Yes, customer service could be MUCH better. But it is the price we pay to have affordable gadgets delivered to our door.
I remember when I was a kid in the early 1980s and my Atari 2600 died. We had to mail it off to a repair center hundreds of miles away, and it was nearly 6 weeks before a new unit came by UPS. Oh, and we had to pay return postage COD. Good thing my mother was home when the UPS guy showed up!
Battery or Charger?
When I had a problem with my battery in April, I just called customer service and the gentleman I spoke with said no problem and sent me out a new battery, with free shipping and told me to just keep the old one. I'm one of those people who have had nothing but excellent service from T-Mobile. I've know A LOT of you all have had crappy service from them and I don't doubt it at all, but I'm a lucky one I guess. If I were you I would call again, maybe a few times until you get what you deserve! Good Luck Bud.

Is there a trusted source for this? I can't buy it from LG or google...but would like to replace my Nexus 5 battery. I'm charging the phone like 3-4 times/day.

You can find all the proper LG part numbers in the D820 service manual, plus, it has the proper steps to dis-assemble the Nexus 5 so you don't break anything.
EAC62078701 is the part number to search for.
Read the last 20 or so pages for part numbers and di-assembly instructions(with color pictures!).

2 hours screen on, half battery used? Yeah could be normal. Hard to say really.

I am looking for this, too. My battery is really messed up. I've tried recalibrating, factory reset, different ROMs, complete stock, etc. I'm getting 3 hrs. TOTAL before having to charge and it'll hit 25% and die almost immediately after that. I power back on and I'm at 3% (!). I'm trying the Zerolemon battery case to see if that gets me through the next few months until I can possibly upgrade or get another Nexus 5.

I've spent the past few days looking for a genuine battery (in the UK). I've actually spent about 2 weeks swapping ROM's around from 4.4 to 5.0.1. Turns out Lollipop is some of my problem but even on 4.4 I'm getting pretty bad life.
All the other batteries I could find were about half the price but the reviews said they were fakes. I'll try this one.
OEM battery is only about $10 or $15, so price alone won't tell you if it's genuine or not.

When I searched on amazon.co.uk for OEM Nexus 5 battery, I found a few for only about £10 but the reivews made it clear that they were not really LG batteries. I couldn't find the link that the poster gave (probably because it doesn't have OEM in it). I've no reason to believe it is more genuine other than the poster contacted them and they assured him. So I ordered it and it looks very genuine so far - some that are sold as OEM don't even have "LG" written on them!
I'll install it soon and see if my battery life improves and come back here and also write an amazon review - it's the only way for people to see what's good or not.

Resellers will then mark those up to whatever price they want so it's really a crap shoot out there. Best of luck with your replacement and let us know the results.
I would like to ask all the people on this forum that have replaces their battery in the Nexus 5 to post some of their impressions about the "new" battery, this thread looks like the perfect place to do this.
I will start:
- I had to replace my battery because it became very bloated/swollen, so much that on one side the back case was lifted 1 mm, and
the phone felt a little bit heavier. Also the battery would not last even an hour, the phone closing on it's own with the battery showing 50-70 %,
and after reset showing <10%, then it would magically charge itself back to 50%
- So I bought a new one from ebay: "http://www.ebay.com/itm/361075010454", the guy had positive reviews and many people got this item
- It arrived in perfect state, at least visually, it had part number "EAC62078701" like all the replacement batteries online, the seller assured me it was original and new from LG. Proof that it was new could be that the connector ribbon was straight and not folded in any way, so it could not have been used in a phone before. The inscriptions on it seemed original, but when I scanned the barcode from the lower-left side it decoded a different date
than the one written on it over the P/N, so no match, but what does this mean ?
- I put it into the phone and now it acts "normally", meaning that it goes from 100% all the way to 0% without the phone closing itself
- Charging also seems normal, taking about 2,5 hours to fully charge with the LG WCP-300 wireless charger
- But this is were the problems start, with the new battery I cannot get more than 2 - 2,5 hours of SOT no matter what I do. I've tried 4.4.4, L preview, 5.0, 5.0.1, even cm11, with full wipes and no restores, but it's the same, as soon as the screen in on, the battery drains like crazy, I lose 15% battery in 10 minutes of playing Temple Run 2, which is not even such a demanding game. Totally unacceptable, when the phone was new, I used to get 4-5 hours of SOT, now I don't even get half that.
This is why I'd like to get other people's impressions about a replacement battery.
Maybe this replacement battery is bad, I but I don't want to get another one without proof that other replacement batteries can get 4 hours of SOT with stock Lollipop.

With all bells and whistles I get 3- 3.5h SOT . LTE at all times , location on , brightness around 15%. 4 to 5h on 3g with location off and no music.
The only way to be sure if it's the battery is to either compare it with another battery in your phone or do a controlled discharge .
That would involve taking it out , wiring it to a constant current sink and timing how long it takes until it reaches cut-off voltage. Since either buying a current sink or building one will cost you more than 15 bucks I'd say just look for another battery if you really hate the current SOT .

and the voltage totally killed the battery in my phone, so didnt really feel like those sellers where worth my trust, so went to FB and got in the N5 fan page of my country, so there was a guy who had one with a broken screen and was nice enough to sell me his battery, this is basically your best shot, asking around if you REEEEAAALLY want a original one, since LG dont sell them to the public
Temperature of replacement Nexus 5 battery
Hi,
Sorry to bother you, but could you tell me if your replacement Nexus 5 battery has a varies temperature?
I mean if the temperature goes up to 35 Celsius when it's charging or you're playing games, of if it goes down to 25 when it's idle.
Because my replacement battery always stays at 29 degrees Celsius, no matter how I use the phone.
I think mine might be bad, but I want to check with someone else before buying another one.

Update - I replaced it a few days ago (using the amazon.co.uk link given previously) and it has solved my issues. I played a video in a loop on full brightness and got almost double what I had before. General usage seems much better too.
So why did I need a new one after just a year? I think my old one was damaged by overheating on cheap wireless charger. My new charger doesn't make the phone get so hot. I used the old one for about a year and lost about 50% capacity. I thought they must all do that so I didn't worry. I'm told heat can damage the battery.
The temperature is fine - about room temp unless I use it a lot.
It's normal - a battery loses about 30% of its capacity after 400 cycles.

I guess you got that from something like "table 2" on this page -

That's showing a 30% loss on 300-500 cycles assuming the battery was right down to 0%. I didn't know that.
However, I lost 50% and would not have been charging from 0% so it seems worse than average. The next paragraph on that page talks about degradation due to heat. That would explain why mine was so bad.
I'm still surprised though as I've had a few smart phones and never noticed even 30%. I had my Motorola Defy for 2 years as my main phone and then 2 years as a spare and it seemed fine. I suppose you don't notice a gradual loss so presumably I just wasn't noticing.
Not all batteries are made the same - my very old motorola (w388 , 10 years old) started out with around 7 days battery life . Now it only lasts about 3 days so ~60% loss.
My desire x lost around 30% capacity in 2 years - so around 900 charging cycles. My S3 on the other side ... capacity was down to 50% after 200 charging cycles. I've checked most of the with a controlled discharge on a current sink so it should be about 3% off .
So i finally replace my battery and miracle happen phone charge normally not in 40 minutes, there is no battery jump and fall during reboot, no enormous drain etc. So if you have issue as described above and changing roms, kernels and go back to kitkat didn't help change your battery.
Just got a battery from eBay... Looks authentic, but doesn't charge.. Just stays at 0%...
Probably will have to exchange... Is there a way to tell if an LG battery is authentic??
Edit: Well the seller has quickly refunded me and I didn't even have to send back the battery. Told him it wouldn't charge and is stuck at 0%.. He insisted he would just send out a new one, but I asked for a refund instead.
Already ordered a new one from etradesupply, should be here within a few days..

Kompson vs Stock Battery

So guys, celebrating or Forum acquisition.
Let's talk about one of the biggest issues that a huge part of S3 users, that acquired their phones last year had. The battery drop.
It weirdly started for some after the Lollipop upgrade, with a 15 or 20 sudden drop, 1, 2, 3 seconds and you phone turns off!
Firstly we all thought this was a software issue, but after countless work and updates on this part and no fix for it, we started to think that problem was not a software one but with batteries itself.
The cause will remain a mystery. A defective lot? A issue that was ignited by LP? And proof of batteries defect, the drops gets worse with time. 20, 30, 40% drop to zero, batteries getting inflacted watch out if you have this issue!
Fortunately this seems to be fixed in newest batteries, that are sold on main stores, if you're ordering a original one get from main stores, Aliexpress stores are just selling fake ones by my investigations.
Luckily we found at Aliexpress this Kompson battery. At first sight it looked like a big scam, promising capacity for a not so popular phone? Definitely could look like a scam. But then a courageous buyer bought one and not only got great capacity or duration, as got the drop issue aliviated.
My case, after a whole year with two original batteries. They started to suffer huge drops from 50% in the last 6 months, with max of 2:30 SOT. One got inflated, they badly lasted me more than a . Yesterday finally got my Kompson and my issue meet a end. No drop, maybe at 5%, 3% I got a drop to 1% then it last some time more and turns off.
This topic is to inform people with the Drop issue, as well as letting your experience with new, old stock batteries or Kompson. In order to inform and help people with this freaking issue.
I only got one battery with my device, so the moment I started to notice these strange drops, plus none of the "rescue" solutions such as battery calibration (rooted), didn't do anything, I search AliXpress, and bought one KonPson with any risk...
Since March 29th that I am using it, the phone works also with 0%!!! No crazy drops, no suddden 50%...
The load discharges slow an normaly.

Battery calibration isnt quick process to get rid off drops. What You need to do is stay with ONE rom longer! Do a calibration at 100%. Restart the phone. Than three-five times fully discharge battery (with normal use) and charge it to 100% its times. It take week or so. I have konspon and orginal battery and I dont have any drops - no matter which battery I use. I've made flashable batterystats file (from my own file after a week or so) and when I need to test new rom and return to mine testes I do flash batterystats.bin file via recovery and thats all.

I had two defective batteries, no way a calibration would save them from 50% drops.

Just swapped in my Kompson that I purchased a few months ago as a spare as I was experiencing a 10% drop. From my experience it was definitely battery degradation as it started fine and eventually worked up to 5% then 10% while the Kompson goes all the way down to 0%. It will be interesting to see if the Kompson does the same in such a short period as then it might be the device causing degredation rather than poorly made batteries.

Mine is rock solid until now, if it's inflated you should replace it immediately, there's a guy that battery got in fire and ruined the phone too.

I have 5 batteries and a pair of external chargers. One of the 5 is a Kompson. The differences are not abysmal but their performance is better.

I have this same exact battery, I was the first one to get my hands on in our group and its so good that my facebook friends started to try buying it from me. So I sold it to one of them after I sold my jiayu s3 to get an iPhone.
Now that I just went back from an iPhone 2 months ago into another Jiayu S3 unit, I have to buy another Konpson battery for the same reason why my friends wants my Konpson so bad. LOL

If you're gonna get one, just ignore what the capacity says. As long as it says Konpson for jiayu s3, you're all good. Those capacity are just labels anyway, in reality its the same capacity to the stock battery, just more efficient as to why it works and performs better than the stock battery despite having the same capacity.
kompson batteries no longer exist. now they are ones called "losoncoer" i think is the same factory (very similar sticker)
