Samsung Tab 2 P5110 With CWM version 6.0.1.0. How remove CWM and Install TWRP instead - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yesterday I started with trying to load a new Custom Rom for the 1st time on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5110.
I used Odin to root it and also to program the Clockworkmod Recovery 6.0.1.1. That worked fine.
Now I see that it's better to work with TWRP, but I don't know how to remove the CWM.
Is there any manual or something to do that?
Or can someone give me a working manual which include a custom ROM an also the Gapps etc. that I can load using Clockworkmod Recovery?
So, what I need is: A manual how to program a custom ROM onto my Galaxy Tab2 P5110 and I also need to know which Custom Rom will work.
Thanks in advance.
Gert

You can install twrp using odin just like you did for cwm. To install a rom download the zip, boot into twrp, wipe system data cache and dalvik cache, select Install and browse to the rom zip. Any rom you find in the tab 2 forum that is for espressowifi should work on your device.

Yes you can overwrite cwm. Just put the rom somewhere you can find it from the twrp menu (internal storage or sd card). Also I forgot to mention that if you want play store you will have to flash a gapps package after flashing the rom.

Now I have the newest TWRP Recovery. It's a very nice GUI, but do I need to wipe system data cache and dalvik cache? Or can I just select "Install" and then select the right custom ROM?

When switching from a rom to another you ahould first wipe system data etc. Otherwise you will probably have problems like bootloop and apps crashing. The thread in the link you posted explains how to root a device (that is to add a few files extra in the rom you are using).

It all worked out fine. I used this one: lineage-13.0-20180128-nightly-espressowifi-signed.zip
And for the Google Apps: open_gapps-arm-6.0-nano-20180201.zip
Thanks for your help and maybe till next time with a different tablet. I also have a Samsung Tab E 9,6, but that's my back-up tablet in case the Tab 2 dies...

ROM Flashing

I am trying to flash Carbon 1.6 onto my Verizon GS3 but don't really know how and would prefer not to soft brick...again. I am backed up, rooted with unlocked bootloader. How do I go about flashing the ROM (Carbon or any others)? I have CWM touch recovery installed.

If you've done a nandroid in recovery, just download the rom like the above user suggests and follow the rom instructions in the respective thread. Typically, you would need to
1) boot into recovery and wipe System and Factory Reset (maybe Format data, whichever does not wipe internal sd)
2) install the zip from internal or external sd card
Its a fairly simple process. Just make sure your contacts are synced to Gmail before you flash a rom.

I downloaded the ROM, but it was only ~150mb, no where near big enough to be a complete ROM, thought maybe I was missing something.

150mb sounds about right, remember that it's an AOSP ROM, which includes much less than a TW ROM. If you're still sketch about it, check the md5 you have with the one on goo.im to see if they match.

This is very true. Most AOSP roms are around 150MB. TW based roms can be over 1GB, but are usually around 700-900MB.
All you have to do is:
1. Save it to your SD card in, say, "download."
2. Reboot into CWM
3. Select Wipe data/factory reset ==> Yes, wipe data ==> Mounts & Storage ==> Format /system ==> Yes, format system ==> Wipe Cache ==> Yes, wipe cache ==> Advanced ==> Wipe Dalvik ==> Yes, wipe dalvik
4. Select Install zip from SD card==> Choose zip from SD card ==> "Browse to, and select your zip" ==> Install zip ==> Yes, Install zip
5. Once complete, flash Gapps in the same manner, following step 4, reboot, enjoy.
P.S. If you want to flash a custom kernel, you do it just the same as you did the rom and the gapps, following step 4. You can flash the kernel before OR after the gapps, but it MUST be done AFTER the rom.

[Q] How do I completely format the tablet? Erase EVERYTHING ?

After about a year of rooting my tablet I've noticed it started it started getting slow, So I wanted to install a new custom ROM to make it a little faster.
So here is What I did. I first downloaded this ROM from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314458
-Then I rebooted into recovery mode
- Installed the ROM
- then installed the camera update or whatever (from the same link)
- then I wiped The user data
- then I wiped the partition or something
Then when I turned it on, I saw everything was gone but the device was still a bit slow, so I got on the folder explorer app and saw that NOTHING was erased.
Then I rebooted again into recovery mode and clicked on everything I saw "wipe" lol.
Then When I turned it on again I saw they were gone but they were still taking memory.. only 7 GB was free out of 32GB.
So Could Anyone Please help me on how to completely erase EVERYTHING, ( I dont mind if it becomes unrooted or stock rom)
Sorry for the long post and Thank you in Advance!!
What recovery are you running?
To fully wipe using TWRP, wipe both caches, system and then choose the FORMAT DATA option. That will wipe the internal memory clean.

Boot to he ROM. Install GooManager. Open it. Then tap the menu button in the top right and choose Instal OpenRecovery Script. It will flash TWRP 2.3.2.3.
For android 4.2 ROMs you should be using TWRP or CWM 6.x to handle the new file structure.
CWM 3.1.x is old, like 18 months old...
could you be a little more specific like with links and stuff I only know the basics of rooting
Sorry, I thought I mentioned that GooManager was in the play store, but I guess not...

Some ROMs require you to flash GAPPs (google apps) separately.

My 2 cents, at least you could try to reflash with Odin a standard samsung rom for your note 3 in order to bring back all necessary files, then go further with a custom rom again.
Good luck

Tried that too. Some how the folder structure has changed which is not allowing me to flash a new rom. Moreover I am not able to copy zip file to phone memory though I am able to copy the complete folder containing the zip file. This has been a new problem .

[Completed] (status 6) installation aborted - That error on 4 diffirent MODs

Hi guys.
I am a noob in this, but i have done my research and did what i was told.
i have an I9100 and i have rooted it.
when installing CM12.1 (tried 3 diffirent versions) i am always getting status 6 installation aborted.
can the problem be with the kernels? i tried 3 diffirent kernels for I9100.
Please help
Much appreciated.
Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
If you are certain that the ROMs you are flashing are for the I9100 specifically(not another model), then you may be able to use jrummy's root browser to unzip the ROM zip that you are trying to flash, after unzipping, find the META.INF folder and open it then edit the updater script in that file, then using jrummy's root browser compress everything back into a flashable zip, when it prompts you asking which compression level you want to use, select "best", after its zipped, make sure it's placed on your extsdcard(do NOT put it on internal sdcard). When you get in recovery, go to the advanced options and select the option that lets you wipe individual partitions, wipe the system partition and the data partition(DO NOT WIPE ANY OF THE OTHER PARTITIONS), after wiping the system and data partitions you flash the ROM and see what happens.
If you need help understanding all that, you can ask in the forum linked below.

I hope this helps, good luck.

When coming from jelly bean or kit kat to lollipop you have to format system and data partition before flashing. Did you do that, you didn't mention in your last two posts that you did that.

No, those are the normal wipes, I'm talking about the format options. Which recovery do you have? CWM or TWRP?
If CWM, boot to CWM, then choose the mounts and storage option in recovery, in that menu you will see the option to format partitions, format system and data partitions, don't format any other partitions or you'll cause more problems. After they are formatted go back to main menu in recovery then continue into flashing your ROM and Gapps. If it doesn't work after that then there are probably things like your modem or bootloader that need to be updated, if that is the case then it means you need to flash any stock updates that came after Jelly bean for your device(to flash stock updates you have to be unroofed and have an unmodified system partition) and then flash your custom ROM, but you need to check that because some devices can't be rooted after certain updates have been taken, it varies from device to device.
If you have TWRP then you'll see an option saying format or wipe in TWRP, choose that option and find where you wipe system and data(again, do not format any other partitions). Then after format is done go flash the ROM.

Can't find .zip files in TWRP, now I can't flash anything...

Hello there,
I was in the middle of installing recovery, root and a custom ROM on my SM-T210 (Galaxy Tab 3 7"), when the title happened. I don't think the issue is device related though, so that's why I'm posting here.
I have StockRom Kitkat Version 1.7 (not the stock rom, that's just what it's called) installed at the moment, but I didn't like it so I wanted to go for Supernova (2.1) and flash that. This would've worked if TWRP didn't suddenly stop being able to see my files in internal storage...
My device isn't encrypted so that's not the issue. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
Hello,
Make sure you are mounting system and data
Make sure zip files type is selected and not IMG files
Try moving to SD card and try to see if it's there if you have one
Reflash twrp -make sure it's the latest twrp-
Then boot into it, flash rom

Thank you very much sir, using an SD card did it for me! TWRP was already the newest one I could use so that wasn't an option, the other 2 tips I also already tried.
