[Q] How do I completely format the tablet? Erase EVERYTHING ? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After about a year of rooting my tablet I've noticed it started it started getting slow, So I wanted to install a new custom ROM to make it a little faster.
So here is What I did. I first downloaded this ROM from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314458
-Then I rebooted into recovery mode
- Installed the ROM
- then installed the camera update or whatever (from the same link)
- then I wiped The user data
- then I wiped the partition or something
Then when I turned it on, I saw everything was gone but the device was still a bit slow, so I got on the folder explorer app and saw that NOTHING was erased.
Then I rebooted again into recovery mode and clicked on everything I saw "wipe" lol.
Then When I turned it on again I saw they were gone but they were still taking memory.. only 7 GB was free out of 32GB.
So Could Anyone Please help me on how to completely erase EVERYTHING, ( I dont mind if it becomes unrooted or stock rom)
Sorry for the long post and Thank you in Advance!!

What recovery are you running?
To fully wipe using TWRP, wipe both caches, system and then choose the FORMAT DATA option. That will wipe the internal memory clean.

ClockworkMod Recovery v3.1.0.1 (solarnz-R3-230511-1902)
And I will be trying out what u said now.

I've just tried doing format /sdcard and heres what i got:
Formatting /sdcard...
Error mounting /sdcard!
skipping format...
Done.
I've tried mount /sdcard but fail as well =/

Boot to he ROM. Install GooManager. Open it. Then tap the menu button in the top right and choose Instal OpenRecovery Script. It will flash TWRP 2.3.2.3.
For android 4.2 ROMs you should be using TWRP or CWM 6.x to handle the new file structure.
CWM 3.1.x is old, like 18 months old...

could you be a little more specific like with links and stuff I only know the basics of rooting

Sorry, I thought I mentioned that GooManager was in the play store, but I guess not...
Here is a link to it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager&hl=en

Some ROMs require you to flash GAPPs (google apps) separately.
You can get the GooManager here: http://goo.im/devs/s0updev/goomanager

[Q] Ooops - Tab's funked. Help!

P6800 running Zeta
I was browsing facebook the other night when... shaboom - everything froze. No biggie I thought, I'll just do a little reset (I was getting a few FCs here and there anyway lately) and I'll be good to go...
NOPE. It started bootlooping at the initial Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 screen. I'm able to enter CWM recovery and even wipe the cache and flash ZIP files, but when I try to wipe data/factory reset, wipe the Dalvik cache or restore a Nandroid backupI get a System Error. It doesn't look good.
Is there a way to fix my seemingly funked /system without losing all my internal SD card data (where my Titanium backups reside) or to recover it before a full Odin flash?
Just tried again - it reboots and goes into a loop when I try to wipe data and dalvik, and when I try to restore a previous backup it gives me "Error while restoring /system!"
Any help greatly appreciated before it becomes a $600 door stop
Do you dare to wipe the system folder and follow by flashing another ROM?

Do you mean via Odin? Will I lose the data on my internal SD card by doing that? Is there any way of mounting the device in its current state as external storage on my PC to copy all data before a wipe?
ZhenMing: I'm not sure what you mean, but as I wrote above I am not able to wipe the system folder.
yes you will loose your data... i can give you another advice... but do this one carefully... the reason why your device cant wipe any /system or /data is because the corrupted partition... you need to check it... follow the guide in this thread...
USE ONLY PART 3... follow the guide start from this para to check your device...
Code:
Now we are going to use e2fsck to check our new partitions for errors, but not only, it also fixes some erros and it will even for example create lost & found in /data
So let's go, we'll begin with /system. If you're still in the (parted) shell, use ctrl+c and type "adb shell", then issue the following :

Since you can go into cwm, you can mount your storage and then connect to PC to copy all you want.

But won't it downsize the int sd size, if OP tab still under warranty, better to get it fix by samsung for free and not lost any space.
Just reading the 1st post of the ZETA rom thread.
He says he is using stock Kernel.
He says every 5 lines, that you should full wipe...
without giving any sort of warning that it will eventually brick your device.

Tried that one, but it won't mount unfortunately. The external will no problem, but when I try with the internal it just... well it does nothing. It's a bummer cause all my most recent backups are on the internal. Any other way of retrieving my data short of extracting the chip?
Giving it back to Samsung sounds like the best option, but I'm worried cause it has a custom ROM and it's rooted. Anyone has experience doing that?
Also I thought full wipes were good, but you're saying they eventually brick the device? How come? I thought having a custom recovery meant it would be virtually impossible to brick my device... and the weird thing is that it happened during normal usage, not while flashing.
Anyway, my priority is obviously to get my tab working again, but retrieving my internal data is second highest. Isn't there a flashable ZIP that would copy the contents of the internal SD into an external SD card? Surely this has happened to someone before me?
Thanks for all the answers, really appreciated!

nope it wont... the 3rd stage on that thread command for just check and fix the corrupted partition... its like when we force boot windows... it will run on a little diagnostic software to check the drive... same concept.

Gotcha! Will try that one and post result - thanks!
how did your partition check go?
i'm annoyed that some partitions can be corrupted randomly even doing some mundane stuffs
even on stock ICS fw, i encountered DATA corruption by just deleting a contact
i guess you have softbrick..
here is what i did:
-flash stock Honeycomb firmware using Odin
-forced tablet into stock recovery mode
-wipe Cache/Data/Factory Reset
- reboot
when your tab is working again you could backup files from your internal EMMC and you could flash ROMS from there

Thanks for that. I haven't tried anything yet as I'm away till Weds, but I will then and let you know. So you're saying by flashing stock HC via Odin and wiping/resetting everything through stock recovery I won't lose my internal storage data?
that's what i experienced..but i could not guarantee that it will be the same for your device
i noticed that because old folder are not deleted when i rebooted, but i haven't checked if the system folders are cleared
to have a clean reflash i also format/sdcard on recovery..but don't do this on stocl ICS recovery since you might risk increasing the damage
try to format via odin the Honeycomb fw first [don't put PIT file neither enable Repartion, just normal flash]
then force it to enter recovery mode when it bootloops after reset
you might fix your device this way if it has softbrick
just resort to using PIT/repartition as your last option
Again I would not recommend repartition when tab still under warranty. Repartition the last resort only if the tab is without warranty after failing all other alternatives.

[Q] Wipe/factory reset and flashing new ROM

I'm currently on Paranoid Android and as I am a bit unsatisfied with the performance and responsiveness of the device (GT-P3110) I thought I'd try out the latest version of Slimbean as I've heard a lot of good things about it. The installation instructions says to download the ROM, doing a full wipe/factory reset and then flashing the new ROM.
Now, this probably is a really stupid question, but if I first download the ROM and then do a full wipe, won't the downloaded file also be deleted? Am I supposed to download the file to my computer and transfer it to the tablet after wiping it? Is it possible to transfer files to the tablet in recovery mode?
Bit of a noob, as you can see....

No, its all good. Just put your new file onto your internal or external sd and flash from there with CWM or TWRP. I prefer to flash with TWRP from the external sd, that way I can just keep it in case I have to reflash or whatever. Good luck!

I have now wiped the device and done a format of the /system folder as per the instructions on the slimroms website (can't post an external link as a new user). Since my /Downloads folder (to which I downloaded the ROM .zip file) is now empty, how do I go about flashing the device?
viewshs concept
I have attempted to push the files to the device while in recovery using the ./adb push filename.zip /sdcard/download command, and while it says...
Desktop/Slim-p3110-4.2.2.build.6-OFFICIAL.zip /sdcard/download
4174 KB/s (87596355 bytes in 20.490s)
...the file is nowhere to be found in the /sdcard/download folder when I want to flash it. Any thoughts?
First, activate flash zip from sideload in CWM and then send sideload command "./adb sideload flashable.zip". Good luck!

After installing the new ROM I realised I only have about 2gb of free space on my internal memory (out of 8gb). Is this normal? I'm thinking this may have something to do with the device being slow and unresponsive? How can I make sure my tablet is completely "wiped"?

In TWRP, an option called "format data" will format your internal storage, just make sure that your downloaded rom, kernel and gapps are on your external storage before proceed.
Usually after performing a data format, I will reboot recovery before flashing to ensure that the partition is ready for the new rom, as per advised on the TWRP on screen instruction.
Install philz recovery it has lots of options for wipe your device fully touch to use

[Completed] (status 6) installation aborted - That error on 4 diffirent MODs

Hi guys.
I am a noob in this, but i have done my research and did what i was told.
i have an I9100 and i have rooted it.
when installing CM12.1 (tried 3 diffirent versions) i am always getting status 6 installation aborted.
can the problem be with the kernels? i tried 3 diffirent kernels for I9100.
Please help
Much appreciated.
Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
If you are certain that the ROMs you are flashing are for the I9100 specifically(not another model), then you may be able to use jrummy's root browser to unzip the ROM zip that you are trying to flash, after unzipping, find the META.INF folder and open it then edit the updater script in that file, then using jrummy's root browser compress everything back into a flashable zip, when it prompts you asking which compression level you want to use, select "best", after its zipped, make sure it's placed on your extsdcard(do NOT put it on internal sdcard). When you get in recovery, go to the advanced options and select the option that lets you wipe individual partitions, wipe the system partition and the data partition(DO NOT WIPE ANY OF THE OTHER PARTITIONS), after wiping the system and data partitions you flash the ROM and see what happens.
If you need help understanding all that, you can ask in the forum linked below.

I hope this helps, good luck.

No, those are the normal wipes, I'm talking about the format options. Which recovery do you have? CWM or TWRP?
If CWM, boot to CWM, then choose the mounts and storage option in recovery, in that menu you will see the option to format partitions, format system and data partitions, don't format any other partitions or you'll cause more problems. After they are formatted go back to main menu in recovery then continue into flashing your ROM and Gapps. If it doesn't work after that then there are probably things like your modem or bootloader that need to be updated, if that is the case then it means you need to flash any stock updates that came after Jelly bean for your device(to flash stock updates you have to be unroofed and have an unmodified system partition) and then flash your custom ROM, but you need to check that because some devices can't be rooted after certain updates have been taken, it varies from device to device.
If you have TWRP then you'll see an option saying format or wipe in TWRP, choose that option and find where you wipe system and data(again, do not format any other partitions). Then after format is done go flash the ROM.

External_SD crashed and Link2sd messed everything

Hi guys,,, I need some guidance to fix this.
I have Galaxy Tab 2 7" p3113 that my daughter uses to play.
So,,, I had to install link2sd and 32gb microsd to link games + data to external sd because she installs too many games.
Everything was fine until sd die.
I bought a new sd, created 2 partitions 1 fat32 and other ext2 both primary as before.
The problem is all previous installed app were "removed" from tablet and I cant install anything from Play Store due Insufficient Storage Space.
Then I deleted all movies, pictures, wiped cache partition, dalvik cache even a factory reset. Now tablet has 4.31gb / 4.59gb free and I cant install anything.
I installed Omni rom to test but same result.
In my opnion, I think this issue was caused buy link2sd after sd died. But I dont know how to fix it.
Could anyone help me to fix this or point me some direction, please?
Thanks

Do you know how to flash firmware using Odin?
If not here's how
Download Odin In your pc.
Link for odin-http://odindownload.com/SamsungOdin/
Now after installing Odin and open it.
select the PDA button in it and browse for the firmware file you downloaded before.
In your device go to download mode by pressing power+vol down.
Connect your device to your pc (make sure you have your usb drivers installed)
Now click start and wait. Once it says finished remove the USB cable.
Now if you are stuck in the boot logo for more than 30mins try going to recovery and perform a factory days reset.
Now you would have the official firmware.
Check the partitions now.
Cheers,

Before Odin step, I tried again and maybe I got it working.
1. full wipe + cache + dalvik
2. reflash Omni rom + SU
3. installed ES File Manager
4. installed busybox
5. installed Lucky patcher => troubleshoot => Remove fixes and backups
Storage space: 4.31gb free / 4.59gb
Now I could install some games like:
Looney tunes, zombie tsunami, talking tom, angela and Minions.
I dont know if this realy fixed my problem but I was able to install those games.
I wont abuse of my lucky today
Any advice on link2sd? Can I install it again and link apps to sd once I get in trouble with space? I read in somewhere samsung doesnt support link2sd.
Thanks for your advices

Well on the first thought you were actually using link2sd before your card got damaged so how no Samsung support?
Well if you think you have sorted it out, try it, if it does, well and good, if not Format/wipe system too along with data next time you wipe and flash

Insufficient storage error after installing GAPPS

Hey.....so i have twrp and after installing my lineage of choice i go to flash gapps
it flashes successfully (i install immediately after lineage)
But upon setup and boot up....i cant download even a single app from the PLAY STORE as it displays an error.
Its quite random as i find that the error disappears when i flash again but also it might not and so am confused on what to do and what am doing right to skip that error
Summary: I have just done a clean install of lineage and gapps but when i want to download an app it shows an insufficient storage error....when i still have like the whole phone storage to use. (no restore from backup was done so phone is empty)
Help....
Thanks
Edit: i made it clear its an issue in playstore not in twrp...as i can handle up until stock gapps.
The error gets triggered if not enough free storage space in partition /system and/or /vendor. Just try with micro version of GApps.

i use pico and i can even use stock if i want, device is quite capable ...im saying that i cant download an app in play store as it shows an insufficient storage error hence am confused as i have storage cause i just finished a clean install of lineage
Then storage space in /data and/or /cache partition isn't sufficient. Take note that when downloading an app from Google Play Store in addition to APK's download-size extra ~500MB are needed.

Have you tried going to system settings>applications then finding and selecting the Playstore on the list of apps then tap "storage" then wiping cache and storage for the Playstore app, then reboot the device?
Or
Have you tried booting into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik cache then reboot the device?

i have my whole phone storage as i just flashed lineage and gapps successfully....granted its not a lot of storage (its 16gb) i should at least be able to download a 6.1 mb app in playstore....right?

ye i tried the second one and the first one( i didnt restart though) but its not a playstore issue as even in the device file explorer it does not show the internal storage hence the files are not even accessible but the storage size is still seen in settings but i just cant access them....its weird
When in Android's Settings menu tap Storage, tap Advanced, wait for seconds the internal storage gets loaded, tap on internal storage: you'll be shown all the categories in your phone's internal storage. From this you can attain which storage folder or category is taking up huge amount of space in your phone internal storage.

Try another clean install of your ROM and a different gapps package, there may be something wrong with your gapps file, it has been known to happen.
Or, try a clean install of your ROM but do not install gapps, then, reboot into system but do not sign in yet, then power off and boot back into recovery and flash your gapps then reboot. This has been known to fix many issues with flashing ROMs and gapps.

Simplest way to fix your problem is too head back into Twrp recovery and perform a Factory Reset.

your solution seems as the most likely to work so i have marked it as the solution but what i did was just flash stock rom and mounted system in the stock recovery and cleared cache and did a factory reset and boot into the stock rom then i reflashed twrp and flashed the lineage and gapps
that worked
On second thought... im marking this as the solution cause i feel its assured to work cause you are going back to the stock rom and its default system partition and i never had issues flashing when i came from the stock rom.
i even flashed the aroma gapps
Thanks for the help guys...i appreciate it

this did not work....i cleared everything and even formatted data
I don’t know if you found the solution but if didn’t format data clean your phone
Download the version you want make sure both the lineage and gaps are the same in my case I got lineage-18.1 and mindTheGapps 11
Because lineage 18.1 is 11 I tried other gapps but most didn’t work
Then after copy the both files directly in phone internal storage or if your phone supports SDcard put them in there
1st install the gapps.zip then the lineage.zip then reboot system and vwala Insufficient storage gone everything should work including all google apps if chrome or Gmail is missing download in playstore or use browser to download The apk
On mine, I just wiped cache and dalvik cache, then did a dirty flash of opengapps (which was what I'd already been using prior to the TWRP restore), and that fixed it, so that might be a less destructive option for some people.

The problem is lack of space in the system.
The gapps is not supported in many LineageOSes:
Google apps | LineageOS Wiki
wiki.lineageos.org
This worked for me on two One Plus One phones:
Further down in the page they recommend MindTheGapps (not gapps) with Lineage 18.1 (Android 11) .

This one I have not tried - resizing system:

Got error 70 while installing Gapps in TWRP? This error prompts up when your partition storage size is lesser than the size of the respective Gapps package.

The ‘resize’ action should really be called something else since it doesn’t do anything unless there’s unallocated partitions lying around....
If you actually want to resize, you’ll have to download a version of TWRP that has hh_repart. A version that worked for me is described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...h-for-nexus-5-hammerhead-discontinued.4047653 .. I used this custom TWRP: https://sourceforge.net/projects/hammerhead-twrp/ which successfully bumped my Nexus 5 from a 1GB to 1.44GB, enough to put on Lineage 18.1 and OpenGapps Arm 11.0 Pico.
