Hi All,
I love pixel 2, I can't figure out when PIP works with Oreo, and it doesn't.
I come from Samsung GS6 world, and as much as I hated how out dated it was, PiP worked with EVERY app. all I had to do was swipe the display from corner, and it would make the app overlay. I could resize the overlay how ever I want.
I was surprised pixel 2 didn't have that feature as I always thought it was google feature, and not samsung's.
Are there anyway to make PiP for Oreo and make it work for every single app?
You can only allow it for the apps that show up here.
Settings>apps and notifications>advanced>special apps access>picture in picture
App developers need to add the ability to do pip to the app to have it show up in this list.

On pixel you invoke pip by pressing home button. You'd hate it if it did pip for all apps anyway.

On Samsung you invoke it by swiping diagonally, almost like you're changing the window size, and this worked with every single app including plex. I hate how it doesn't work on this phone.

Hi there, i just want to have feedback on my TaskOS app.
This application show to the users all the apps he opened and never closed. ( leave applications with HOME key and it will appear. Leave with back key and won't appear.)
The user can scroll between all these apps and launch one by clicking on it or kill it by dragging to the top ( like Palm PRE)
That's a beta, but all the mains features are there.
What do you think of it.
PS: i am looking for ROM developpers that would be able to launch it by long click on the "home" button or trackball/other.
Features
* customizable icon size
* wave effect ( i think i'll remove it)
* confirm killing app or not
* notification to launch easily ( looking for people who know ho to integrate this with long press on home button - trackball)
* more to come...
Will come
* theming the bar
* ignore apps by moving icon to the bottom

Looks nice but why doesn't it show as many apps as say taskiller?
I'm using a Nexus One btw
For what version of Android is this? Can I run this on my 1.5 device with Sense?

This version is Android 2.1 on my hero. But yes of course, you can use it on a 1,5 device with sense!
nice thought, i like it!
I'm running 1.6 stock and unfortunately it doesn't show up when
i leave any app with home-key, but i find the idea of holding
home-key pressed in order to show up really nice!
...and yeah, i stopped using *press-here-to-kill-all-tasks*
I kinda like it
some suggestions:
- gestures (like from down to up to open it)
- Lock the slide up feature while scrolling
- Maybe previews of apps (would require lots of mem somehow)?
- click anywhere other than the switcher to close the switcher
- don't display apps twice
BTW: what about making an app launcher like the wave launcher from webOS? shouldnt be too hard and very useful
I like the idea of a Pre app launcher, but I want to say something related to memory may bog things down a little bit.

alright. Nevermind the thumbnails by gestures i mean like a system one so you drag up from the bottom of the screen to open taskOS but i guess that isn't possible unfortunately... maybe use a longpress menu to open it? would be great if a different solution was possible to open the switcher up
see news here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5404622#post5404622 to launch with Home key, but i guess i won't have answers.
I think Google should allow users to make custom shortcuts by clicking on buttons!
Ignore function does not work on some screen sizes!!!!
I'll have a look thursday! Be patient
Could you possible add a memory counter at like the corner somewhere to show how much free ram we have? Also, any way to make this look/work a bit more like the WebOS cards if possible?
As for resolution I notice you have a Hero, so I take it you made the res for Hero(my Eris has the same res as the Hero)?

This isn't entirely true.
Some apps need to be force killed.
Android takes care of this only when the situation is really dire.
Why waste the valuable RAM?
Let's say you use App "X" once a day, but it's a resource (memory + cpu) hungry app, like Maps and derivatives.
Now, this is an app which will figure in the active list, but some of them like remaining in the background. Have 5 of those, and your system will work at a crawl.
Now try killing that app. You can really feel the difference, especially if you're using 7201A based handsets (that's 528Mhz).
Take a look at com.eolwral.osmonitor.
IMO, the best task manager around. And it's free (as well as ad-free).
why not mail the author and share some ideas?
You do have a innovative approach to task management (ui-wise).
i don't know if anyone has the same problems, but since last update i keep getting force closes when trying to kill an app!
edit: dis- and reenabling kill popup fixed the problem. weird.

Thank for the feedback!
You are the only one people that I heard having this problem... Really strange but i am glad that Taskos work again!
Next time, send me the logcat so i will be able to correct the bug!
Yeah, it would be nice if we could use TaskOS by holding home... The normal Android switcher is so useless.
very nice app ... will be essential if you find a way to use as task switcher (longpress home)
could you maybe add the option to hide statusbar icon?
also kinetic scrolling would be very welcome
Inertia in scrolling: seem to be so hard to implement.... You will have to wait.
Long press home: Developpers don't have access to this! I will investigate with Custom ROM developers. Imagine all apps can acces home button and you press it!
Ability to remove statusbar icon: will be done in next update.
I think that I left a bug in previous update. Nobody told me and i just corrected this evening. Sorry for the inconveniance!

So does this software now have the ability to load via the home button?
@XpLoDWilD how's this? Looking forward to your comments
Swipe gesture here is not what action launcher offers. It's different, please check it out.
And enumerate the issues that can still persist in this kind of implementation, i will keep drawing till i get it right and easier for the not so techy people.
The app clicked appears "split in that half of the screen" of which the appdrawer has been swiped out.

Not sure what I'm looking at here, should these menus be always accessible? In which case it's a no-go, considering the number of apps having swipe-from-the-edge gestures.

Ok got your point. Thanks again for pointing out my mistake.
But here i is my take:-
##**Have this swipe gesture only in the 'recent apps screen'. ##**
In recents screen, 2 hotspot on left edge, upper and lower half.
1.Press recents> 2.swipe from edge in the half you want your new app> vertical continual scrollable app drawer appears( like the old launcher pro)> 3.click app. Done
Easy and i hope awesome. Just 3 steps accessible from all screens, all apps, all phones?
See i am trying so hard everyday because the basic problem in omni current implementation is that app should be in recents app. If it's not been open yet, or if it has been swiped off to clear ram, then imagine the number of steps in the currents method to open app in split view.

In recent apps screen, just like we have clear all apps button, we can add 2 new buttons ( no swipe gesture)
After that the same steps as above. In whichever half you click app drawer appears and then split app appears there.

I personally like this idea here:
Instead of necessary buttons and shortcuts that are easy to accidentally trigger, just use the multitasking screen itself to long-press an app and then drag it to one side of the screen. Then maybe have two buttons that only appear in multitasking mode, either on the top left and bottom left or on the app preview to remove the app from multitasking. But that's just my idea.

hmm i liked the video as well. but i've always disliked the idea of the app necessarily being already in recents. people always swipe off all recent app to clear RAM.
Just a thought!
Would it be possible to combine halo with multi-window? I know that they don't play well together but I am thinking something along the lines of a mashup. Halo is good at managing notifications in immersive mode but does not give a true multi-tasking environment. Multi-window clearly is the winner when it comes to multitasking but not as good as halo in handling notifications.
Imagine when you receive a notification in immersive mode through halo and when actioned on, it does not open a floating window (which is the case now) but resizes the current window and opens the new one as a split (also making it the active one and pausing the activity in the other one if there is a need to).
Just a thought. I am not a coder and have no idea how much of a pain in the arse this would be but it would be a combination of two of the most innovative features that are currently available on customs ROMs.
@XpLoDWilD
Something interesting maybe you can look into to get some ideas
LG launches QSlide SDK to bring floating windows to third-party apps
http://www.androidcentral.com/lg-launches-qslide-sdk-bring-floating-windows-third-party-apps
Why not make it simple?
Why splitting main desktop window?
Every laucher allow many virtual desktop windows, so why not putting on app per window and switching between apps by swypping left-right?
It should be possible as KDE linux do it since many years now.
I am not a dev, but in my mind this should be easyer than floating multiwindows (no needs to resize).
It would be just awesome to have multitasking with full size display. :good:
For Multi window app selection why not just put a small button on the far left edge of the Nav bar? Allow the user to set a few favorites in a drawer with a option of an app drawer to select any app (see the application drawer option in gravity box) While I understand this will only work on devices with on screen nav keys I see it as the most natural option for those devices.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't OmniSwitch the Multi-Window thing for OmniROM?

Hey guys I was wondering about the Pie update specifically multitasking I've noticed that in pixel phones you get live apps in multitasking screen and I was really excited for this feature but I just got my oneplus oneplus 6 2 weeks ago and I and I was surprised that it wasn't implemented so does anyone have an idea why it was cut out or even if its coming later in an incremental update?
Thanks in advance loving the phone btw

Do you mean copying from multitasking? Indeed I can't make it work but it doesn't like a huge absolutely needed feature.
Or do you mean having suggested apps at the bottom? I've actually never seen this feature on any other videos. Maybe it was only in the previews but it wasn't kept in final Pie?

If you use the classic navigation buttons (back / home / recents), do you know that double tapping recents allows you to switch to the last app. I'm sure you'll find it as convenient if not more!

Copying text from recents is a Google Pixel exclusive, no other phone has it. The only way to get it on other devices is to install Lawnchair along with Lawnstep, where this feature is/will be available (they were planning to add it, not sure if that happened already though).
EDIT: Ooor just use a custom ROM supporting this feature, should there be one.
Hi all.
Today I received the new android p update. But unfortunately differences are little to none.
Have you received the update yet?
Whats your experience with android p on lg g7?
Have you noticed much improvements?
I noticed notifications are little bit different, you have option to minimize those permanent notifications without being able to see them in notification bar. And you get options for fast reply messages form viber... probably some other apps. But it wasn't there before. And Gestures are here. I still use app called Gesture control for this coz I like it more like that. And ofc there is different recent apps look. Looks better. Other than that, everything is same.
I use google sms app and have had the notification and fast reply already.
Unfortunately I am disappointed that lg did not put any time to improve the ui.
What about camera? I do not see any improvements.
I noticed also magnified view when I try to select some text. And in camera there is now cine shot which lets you make some photos with some part moving like animation.
There is probably more of changes that I dont notice. I use nova luncher with custom themes so I knot nothing about UI how it looks like now and can't remember how it looked before.

Hello to everybody!
Is there a way to use split screen mode while using nova launcher????
I wish to find out as well ?
Works on mine with Nova installed, but only when another app is already open, not when you are on your "homescreen" (or another page of Nova if you have more than one).
"Floating Window" mode works fine on Nova though, with no other apps open.
Swipe in from left or right to open the Multi-Window dock....
Quick press an app for Floating Window.
Drag an app from the dock to the top or bottom of the screen for Split Screen mode, but as I said this only works when an app is already open, so open one of the ones you want normally first, then open the dock and drag the other app you want to the top or bottom to give you split screen.
Not all apps are compatible with Split Screen, but there is an option in Settings/System & updates/Developer Options to "Force activities to be resizable" which may help.
Actually, you can use split screen on Nova Launcher. You just have to trigger it differently. I have no idea why. This is just the result of trial-and-error.
First turn on "force activities to be resizable" from developer options.
Now when in an app. Long press the recent apps button, release it and then press the home button. This works on my Samsung J500F with unofficial Lineage OS 17.1. Let me know if it works

However, if you go to recent apps, and long-press the icon of a particular app, it shows two options- app info, and split-screen, in Lineage OS. Any luck with that?
