Lag and connection issues when connected to bluetooth? - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

I received my pixel 2 a week ago and I am getting probably 3 glitches a day where for example the camera doesn't work or things just seem to crash. I also have Bluetooth issues as stated in the title.
Does anyone have those as well?

i can confirme the bluetooth issues : when connecting to a bluetooth speaker ( JBL charge 3) phone lags and music plays on the phone instead of the speaker, then wifi disconnects. I even sent my speaker to JBL but got it back and they said that there were no issues when they did their tests, so i believe the phone is to blame

Let's hope they fix it with the next update. Apparently, pixel 2 phones on Verizon have received an update fixing the performance and other issues...

Bluetooth A2DP dropouts

I'm having an issue with audio dropouts on my bluetooth headset (plantronics M50). It didn't seem to be a problem in the first week, but the frequency has steadily increased since the end of August. A reboot seems to improve the situation, but only temporarily. I haven't tried other bluetooth headsets, but the same headset on my iPad seems to have no problems at all.
Is anyone else experiencing bluetooth audio dropouts? I have not had it occur during a phone call, btw.
It happened for me only for two days or so with only one of my headsets. Seems to be working fine now.
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk 4
I'm using Jaybird JF3 Freedom stereo bluetooth earbuds with my Maxx and have not encountered this issue. Just another data point for you.
Happens all the time to me.
Hopefully an update to 4.3 will fix it as my old Nexus didn't have any issues.
Android 4.2 (current Maxx version) didn't some with built in A2DP support but Moto added it. Whereas Android 4.3, Google has added it to Android, which should hopefully clear the issues a lot of people have been reporting with A2DP currently; i.e. static, stops working, blips in audio, etc.

Bad sound quality through Bluetooth

I'm having bad sound quality when making call through Bluetooth in my car. It sounds like the audio is breaking up. Anybody else have this problem? My note 3 was working just fine through bluetooth

I also noticed the same thing yesterday driving home. I did not have this problem earlier in the week. I'm not sure what is going on. This along with a strange wifi problem has recently surfaced. If I leave my wifi range and then return, it does not want to reconnect. I have to toggle the airplane mode then wifi will reconnect. I am running stock 11s rooted with 2.7.1.0 TWRP, Xposed framework, Xpoxed GEL, Gravity Box, Tasker, Autovoice.

I am. I'm looking for suggestions for things to try and improve the stuttering/skipping/dropouts that I'm experiencing when using my OnePlus One in media playback mode through my Chevrolet MyLink car radio. I have some additional details to offer and things I have tried:
1) The playback application doesn't seem to make any difference, the problem is most pronounced (unlistenable) when playing back music files and is highly annoying when listening to speech (e.g. podcast) files. I suspect the difference is the music having a beat that gets interrupted while there are some normal pauses in speech so the stuttering blends in a bit more. In any event, it's not a problem with the playback application.
2) It seems unlikely to be a problem with the car radio (Chevrolet MyLink). Though I haven't done extensive testing I have done some using my old Motorola Atrix HD with a nightly CM11 on it from a few weeks back and that does not seem to have the issue, or at least it is not nearly as severe.
3) When I use a third party bluetooth audio receiver (some cheap no-name one from ebay) the quality seems to be fine but when I try to go directly to the car stereo I get tons of stuttering/skipping/drop outs.
A friend suggested that I try running an alternative kernel and see if that improves things. Any ideas on whether that may be the case or which one might be the best to try? Any other suggestions? It's quite annoying that I can't playback audio through the car radio...
Thanks!
Anyone have any ideas? I tried running the Franco kernel tonight and it seems to have the same issue. I did some logcat captures and I seem to be getting a lot of "W/bt-btif ( 2104): btif_media_aa_prep_2_send congestion buf count 24" messages when playing back audio through the car radio. See the attached full logcat captures with both the stock and Franco kernels and connected to both an alternative Bluetooth dongle and to the MyLink car radio.
Any suggestions?
After further testing I was able to determine this is an issue with the phone and not the car radio as I was able to find at least one other BT device which exhibits the same issue. I have created a ticket for this issue at: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-1005 if you are also experiencing this issue you are encouraged to go and vote for the ticket.
One question though. Do you have WiFi on when traveling in your car? Try turning it off and see if you still get skipping.
I do in fact have WiFi on at all times. I tried turning it off for the day today while doing some driving and it appeared to clear up the problem. I would think it's still a bug because having WiFi on should not prevent BT audio from working correctly but it at least gives someone a direction to investigate.
So I've done some slightly longer term testing and what I can say is the problem is not totally cleared up when WiFi is off but it is much, much better (definitely listenable). I will still get a couple dropouts when first starting a stream (sometimes, not always) but after 30 seconds to a minute it seems to settle down and be fine as long as I keep the WiFi off.

Just to clarify the situation..
My Xperia Z2 have the same issues.. It is not your phone but the Bluetooth stack in android that pretty much sucks the problems you are dicribing has been there since android 4.2 on a lot of devices.
I have just changed my Lumia 1020 out with this Z2 and call me disappointed in music quality! On the Lumia you would have trouble hearing a difference between jack/auxiliary and Bluetooth..
And today I did notice some dropouts even with WiFi off well into my drive but it was just a few packets I would guess more of an annoyance than a serious problem. I've heard about issues in the Android BT stack but the confusing part of that is why certain devices (such as my Atrix HD) don't seem to experience the problem.
I have a bluetooth stereo I use every morning in my home and a bluetooth stereo in my car. I almost exclusively use pandora, but I have also used power amp on longer trips. I have never experience this issue with my opo. I have ran 25-33 all rooted with no problems and am currently using CM11 nightlies. I also am not having any wifi issues.
Sorry it's not very helpful, but it doesn't sound like a widespread issue at least.
It certainly has something to do with the particular bluetooth implementation used by the receiver interacting with the OPO. As I indicated I have three different BT receivers I can test with and the problem affects two of them but not the other.

Bluetooth woes

Has anyone experienced issues with Bluetooth devices? I have 2 devices (that are somewhat obscure) that I'm having problems with. First, what does work:
1) Beats Wireless Headphones
2) Bluetooth in my car
3) Unify Roverbeats (For bluetooth via A/V receiver that doesn't have it built-in.
4) Fitbit Surge (Had a little trouble getting it paired initially, but it's been fine since.)
The two items I'm having the trouble with are:
1) Omron 7 Series Wrist (BP654) Blood pressure cuff.
2) Vicks SmartTemp Bluetooth thermometer.
I have gotten both to pair, though it seems to be hit and miss. Once I need to actually use them, though, I'm having little to no success in getting the phone to see them. Unfortunately, I have to take both my BP and Temp every 3 hours (due to recently diagnosed, extremely rare immune system disorder.) This would be a deal-break for me, with the Blu Pure XL, it I didn't have 2 other android tablets I can use. However, I'd sure like to have these working on the phone! (BTW, they all worked seamlessly on my LG G4.)
Has anyone else experienced bluetooth issues with the Pure XL?
More Bluetooth problems....
The Bluetooth problems I mentioned earlier have only worsened. My car sometimes will, sometimes won't connect. The surge connects 90% of the time. Everything else is touch and go, with my BP Cuff only connecting once (during the pairing sequence.) Also, when selecting "un-pair" on any device already paired almost never un-pairs it. I usually have to reboot, then try again to actually get it to un-pair.
Aside from the Bluetooth issues, I've not really encountered anything else that is a show-stopper. I'd like to have Android pay, but it's not a necessity. I want root more (which disables Android pay anyway.)

I've only paired a Metawatch so far but no issues. I keep forgetting to sync it to my car. I'd say the connection with the XL is better than with my M9, which dropped/reconnected randomly.
So far it seems to work fine with my car but when I use it with moto x sol deck it starts breaking up after 15-20 minutes. The only way to fix it is to turn on and off bluetooth.
Pure XL bluetooth serious problem
I have a Pure XL also, originally i only had problems occasionally with playing media through my LG Tone+ headphones. then i also tried connecting my Fitbit Charge HR it would shut down the bluetooth and lock the bluetooth off. i tried uninstalling the fitbit app and only running the headphones and the bluetooth ended up locking up. when i go to the bluetooth settings it shows it as constantly turning off and turning on. i cant stop it. tried rebooting. and also tried turning off and leaving off for awhile and still when i turn it back on it is still locked up.
Issues with jawbone up3, screwed up bad
Also having issues maintaining a sync without a reboot. In my wild attempts to fix this issue I ended up uninstalling Bluetooth Share.... Would any of you fine gentlemen be kind enough to post a copy of the apk from /system/bluetooth for me?
edit: found it github*com/acheron1502/android_vendor_BLU_BLU_PURE_XL/tree/master/proprietary/system/app/Bluetooth
thanks to acheron1502!
I only use Bluetooth for me FM transmitter in my car.... I never seem to have any problems at all as far as connection and playing music/sounds.... But the hands-free doesn't seem to work.... I can hear them but they can't really hear me very well.... I just put it off to the mic on the FM transmitter....
Just got my blu pure xl today and Bluetooth sucks, its not much better than my blu vivo air. Signal cuts off only being like 5 feet from the phone using my brand new jbl reflect mini Bluetooth earbuds. Hooked to my 4 year old kindle fire hd left on my second floor I was still getting reception in my basement. I'm so pissed I thought that this specked out phone would have good Bluetooth reception but nope ****ty. Blu/gionee needs to start putting way better Bluetooth transmitters in there phones.
I've got to reboot my phone several times a day to keep synced with my runtastic orbit. definitely the phone, had no issues with my LG. Its a nuisance, not a major issue.
Bluetooth woes followed by total meltdown!
After all of my initial issues with Bluetooth on my pure XL, I put a Samsung 200 GB MicroSD card in. It worked for a while, but I think I somehow damaged the card moving it in and out of the phone. Finally, I left the phone charging with card inserted. After an hour or two I came back to get it and it was fire hot...so hot that the plastic back cover had started to melt right below the memory card slot. After it cooled down I removed the SD card. The went on to work half the time, but eventually completely died. I contacted BLU and they sent me an RMA, so I sent the phone to them. I figured they would come back and say the phone was not covered anymore because I had the TWRP recovery and root installed. However, after they received the phone, I got an email with tracking number on the return to me. They ended up sending a completely new phone (off the shelf with all the goodies included.)
Since the new one has been back, and I got the march update, I haven't had any Bluetooth issues save 1: it won't connect to my Denon AVR receiver's Bluetooth mode. Everything else that I listed at the start of the thread is all working correctly now. Every once in a while I have to do a reboot to reset it, but it's way better than it had been!
BLUETOOTH CLICKING NOISE (handsfree)
Is anyone having issues with when using their BLU Pure XL in the car when using handsfree? I have an issue when about 1 minute into the phone call, the person I am talking to hears a loud click every 2 seconds and will not stop until I turn off the bluetooth or put on speaker. If i switch back to bluetooth, same thing happens. The longest I've gone on a call is probably 4 minutes before it started to happen. If i hang up and call the person back on bluetooth, same thing happens.
Anyone has a solution with this as its so bad that I am considering buying a new phone because of this issue!
Thanks

Poor Bluetooth performance

Hey everyone, has anybody experienced significantly poorer bluetooth performance with the S7 than with others? At first I thought it was my headphones as I had gotten a new pair or inexpensive but well reviewed headphones (Mpow Wolverine) at the same time as the new phone. They barely keep their connection and clip audio with the most minor of obstruction or even being @ 10' away. I then tried an older set of BT headphones which worked flawlessly with my previous phone (Moto X Pure) and I was having the EXACT same problem. I don't have problems pairing with devices; my car, Echo, watch. These are very close and line of site when in use and they don't move relative to the phone when in use.
Does the BT radio in this phone just suck, or do I have a defective unit?
I use Bluetooth every day and have never had an issue.

There's several threads on this subject here in the S7 forums.
Some people have issues, others don't. Some have issues with Wi-Fi if Bluetooth is enabled, others don't. Some have issues with new BT headphones, others only with old, others don't.

Use bt headset every day and haven't had any problem.
I had issues with my Sennheiser Momentum 2 wireless, sent them back to Sennheiser to see if they can fix it. They also had similar issues on an iPhone but not as bad as with the S7.
I'm noticing static when wearing BT headphones and making any sort of twisting motion with my head even though the phone is like 1 foot away in my pocket. I'm very concerned how this will affect using the BT headset while bikeriding
I'm having bluetooth pairing issues with my 930F international exynos S7 flat. It won't detect most of my devices. My S6 Active detected & paired with them all and connected quickly to all paired devices.
Elsewhere I read to force stop Bluetooth Sharing then clear app data & cache. Did so and haven't noticed any difference.

HTC Annoying Squeal on Bluetooth

I can't consistently reproduce it, but it has happened several times already. Every so often the phone will inject a nasty electronic squeal into the sound output, particularly noticeable on Bluetooth. I originally assumed it was just a lost Bluetooth packet or something, but then when I turned off the receiver the sound continued to come out of the speakers intermittently for about a minute! I have Jaybird Bluebud X headphones and my car connects via bluetooth as well.
I've also had issues with the phone audio getting super choppy on initial connection, and the Bluetooth module seems to have major interference with at least one of the 2.4Ghz Wifi bands... unfortunately the precise band that the router in the gym picked, so bluetooth audio + wifi is basically impossible (constant stuttering).
Anyone else having issues?
Nope not here ???

I've definitely had the squeal. I also had the low volume over Bluetooth while in call bug.
Yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've had this happen several times (but not consistently) while playing music in Google Play Music.
I don't really have a recent phone to compare to, but the M8 never did that even as the rest of the hardware has been slowly dying these last few months. I guess it's more noticeable since on Bluetooth I'm usually in my car with the volume up... The sound is like fingernails on a chalkboard ?

I got that high pitch noise a couple of times on two different HTC U11 phones from the bottom speaker I think (not using a headset). It happened both times when I was using Chrome on a particular web page. I closed the page and it never happened again on my first phone. I exchanged that one due to a minor display defect and same thing happened on my second phone. On both phones it happened early on once I had everything setup and never happened again. On both phones the BoomSound notification appeared due to an ad on the webpage. Must be some weird software glitch. I do have my phone connected to my Gear S3 via Bluetooth. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. At first I was worried that there was a hardware issue. It definitely sounded like the squeal noise you described here. Almost sounded like an electrical interference.
Ive had this noise for sure, in my car on bluetooth with music player. Not sure how to duplicate, but definatley annoying.

Yes, I get it with my Jaybird X headphones at the gym too. I think you're right that it has something to do with the WiFi bands. I never have any problem in the car.

Sounds like most of you have gotten it when using a BT headset. Both times it happened to me I was merely browsing the web using Chrome and I was connected to my Gear S3 via Bluetooth. I wasn't even streaming anything, and I heard the squeal noise through the phone's speakers. Weird but luckily it seems to be a very rare occurrence.
I've a similar problem but with Wi-Fi in 5 ghz band while making a call. If I'm in a call and at same time the phone is sending or receiving data through a 5 ghz Wi-Fi I can hear a noise or squeal. If I make a call in Skype or WhatsApp using 5 ghz Wi-Fi the squeal is more notorious. It's like 5 ghz antenna is not correctly isolated from upper speaker. If I'm in 2,4 ghz Wi-Fi or not using Wi-Fi at all the sound is okay and no squeal. I can always reproduce this annoyance.
I have HTC phones since One X and never had one without some sort of signal isolation problem. HTC 10 was the worst at this matter as touching upper frames dropped 4g signal and interrupted bluetooth.
I just had this same problem. I remember someone mentioning this on the viper rom forums so I went back to find the post which was by @mhajii210 and linked this thread. I have no desire to trouble shoot the problem since by tomorrow this phone will be in the mail heading back to HTC but figured I'd post what I have to offer.
I did NOT have bluetooth turned on (not at all since last reboot) I was using wifi - most likely connected to 5g but not certain. I was browsing chrome when it squelled for about 20 seconds. After it stopped all was fine. Then about 15 man later when a notification went off it did it again. I opened gallary, played a video, and did it again. Even when I recieved a phone call it did it. Everytime boomsound icon was present. Turning screen off it still continued. After a reboot, has been fine. The only thing I wish I had done was force close chrome.
I hope this info if useful.

Thank you for your post. Sorry to hear you're sending the phone back. I strongly believe it is a Google Chrome bug. I've been using the Samsung Internet Browser Beta and so far it hasn't happened. It's still too early and I have to continue testing the phone since it didn't happen very often.

Is there any solution to bluetooth + wifi problem? I just got myself a sony wh1000xm2 and it is impossible to watch youtube video or listen music from spotify without interruption. But as soon as I either turn off the bluetooth or my headset, it becomes all good. I am using us unlocked phone and I am on Oreo
Hi - any fix in this? I get the squeal using mpow Bluetooth earbuds, but don't use Wi-Fi. I can live with that noise, but, unrelated to bt headphones, all of a sudden the bottom speaker on my U11 sounds like an air compressor going off whenever the boomsound icon pops up (while browsing) and notifications, alarms etc. I've rebooted and messed around with sounds but no go - anyone else have this issue??
