Anyone Tried Gravitybox on the Mate 7? - Ascend Mate 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know that non-AOSP ROMs shouldn't be supported, but I want and try to use it, but I'm scared to cause harm to the phone by doing so... Anyone tried it just to ensure if it's ok or not? I'm curious.
Oh and a side note: I'm running on Marshmallow.
Would appreciate if you answered. Have a good day.

It is pretty safe. If you are worried, wait for other people to try it first
I had a Gnex for two years, running mostly AOKP. You can trust all of the recognized developers here at XDA. If you don't want to risk it, ALWAYS make an nandroid backup.
About the only time you may damage a device is by installing a ROM for a different device. As @justmpm mentioned, if you're having doubts about a particular ROM wait for someone else to post their findings to see then if you wish to try it or not.
Take your time and READ, READ, READ... That is the biggest mistake made around here. People see something they want and just jump in to it without doing any research or doing minimal research. There's in nothing wrong with being cautious.
make a nice backup and go on the safe side!

Hi there.
Yes it is safe as long as
1- You make complete backup
2- Follow proper guide to root and install your rom
3- If you are rookie. Try those roms that have already been tested and running smoothly by others.
Hope that will help you out
Of course bad things could happen also don't forget those same problems could occur with a factory OTA update.
Besides that you could end up with features on your device either gone or broken which I imagine could also happen with a factory rom.
None of them are 100% perfect and safe it is just something you have to accept and take measures before hand to be sure you have backups and/or find knowledge you need to bring your device back from the dead.
These are also all reasons NO ONE should EVER blindly start flashing things to their device without doing some reasearch which is where most problems come from.
Just inform yourself about what you are doing and a lot of things are pretty safe to do or try.
This is about the best advice that could be given I just realized I kinda took the long way around of saying mostly the same thing haha.

Well , If you flash a compatible ROM with your device correctly , nothing will go wrong !
but always take a nandroid backup just in case
the things that can harm your phone most of the time are just kernel related just don't overclock the CPU too much and do your best to avoid kernel tweaks
and every ROM on here has a list of bugs ! so using a custom ROM is totally safe BUT you need to check the bugs list before

No, there's no problem if you flash it properly.....
I have bricked my Gionee GN 100 with a custom rom from another brand but it was the same model. So, take extreme care. I'm also not sure how to fix it. I have some backups but I used only cat. Screen is totally black the phone is technically dead.

Sorry to scare you just giving you realistic info.
Basically flash nothing without researching what you are doing is the biggest point to be taken.
Pretty much what's already been said about making sure the rom is for your specific advice. Usually it's just a soft brick if you flash the wrong rom. The real damage comes using custom kernels the wrong way. i.e. overclocking the cpu/gpu too much. That can cause permanent hardware failure...
I hard briocked my galaxy s3 and had to send it out to to be Jtaged. It was my bad though, just be careful and double check your files prior to flashing. Have ODIN on your computer and be ready to reflash as stock image if you mess somehting up too
I have messed up flashing loads of times and even when I thought my phone(s) was gone for good, I always found a way to bring it back...even if it takes a few hours/days haha...

Odin doesn't work for all devices. Some OMAP devices like Galaxy Tab, your S3, and a few others.

you will be fine as long as you read and follow directions exactly as they are posted. There is always a possibility damage, but if you are careful, you will be fine.

[Q] The best way to root?

Hi everyone,
Uhm, i'm not experienced with this stuff, but i wanted to ask, because i saw lots of ways but i still don't know what to try.
What's the best, i mean, safest way to root an One S? I really hate this Sense 4 and those tards from HTC said that "We cannot update it to Sense 5" and stuff (i had a long talk with them). I heard that rooting isn't working all the time, and you can get your device "Bricked" or sort of, so i really wanted to ask if there's a super-safe way or something like that.
And yes, back to my question, i actually have a Mac, so i wanted to know if there's a way to do it on Mac, and where i can find 'super-detailed' explanation of root-ing it. Any help appreciated.
P.S: If there's already a thread of this, please put the link below, thanks again.

Im not sure how to do it on mac as i am on windows 8.1 but all you need to do is flash twrp recovery, download this, place it on your storage and flash it through recovery
Thanks
Thanks, uhm, i want to get CyanogenMod on my One S. Is it stable? Or there still are major glitches? Oh, and uhm, what actually do i do with this SuperSU? Doesn't it needs root to work?

Fake Android L Port Warning!!

So recently I have noticed that there are fake android L ports for quite many devices.
I'll share a little bit of my experience with You guys.
I've been trying to port Android L Developer Preview for like 5 hours, and I still can't even get it to flash! :silly:
So if You find any of these ports and they are NOT confirmed to work by anyone. DON'T FLASH them. They may brick Your device!
As long as we don't see some popular devs giving us some port nightlies. DON'T FLASH them.
Here where I live it is like 11pm right now, and I have to sleep. So I'll give You more feedback about my "porting" tomorrow :cyclops:
(Most probably My work isn't going to work, but we'll see)
Hello!
I'm back again, and I'm trying to fix that flash issue, but without updating our bootloader it's not going to work!
We have to wait unfortunately for samsungs official update, Flashing motherboard with different boot loader would brick our devices!
I've been also trying to port apps. But they doesn't seem to work. Someone more specialised has to try that, maybe he will succeed.
I guess app port won't work cause of devlik change
Thanks for the notice. Can't wait to see the consumer version of L!

They can try it on ART with AOSP. Same runtime then.

Xposed???

Has anyone attempted to install xposed framework? I downloaded the installer but can't convince myself to try it. Can't afford a new phone if I brick this one. Anyone help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Last I read Xposed for Samsung Lollipop roms wasn't available yet. It's available in beta for Lollipop, but AOSP only.
Read more about it here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811

Touchwiz will not work with Xposed as of yet. Rovo, the creator of Xposed is not spending much time on it either. I understand he has a personal life and development isn't his priority which is cool but I've used xposed for the past 3 years and I will feel naked with the new S6, I guess I should learn to move on until it comes back. Hopefully Rovo comes back on board and builds on it or we can get another solution to things like Wanam, app settings and youtube adaway.
Thanks for the help guys. Hopefully we start to seem some development soon. I'm glad to have root the day I got the phone, but I agree with you Brava27, it feels naked without xposed and a custom rom. Anyone know if anyone is working on a custom recovery?

[Completed] What else shall we do now ?

Hi all,
Before starting I wish to declare I am a stupid person with stupid questions.
So here I go. I have rooted, unlocked the boot loader, installed custom ROM, custom kernels, dual bootes ROMs, flashed Ubuntu Touch, flashed Firefox OS (hated it though). Tried all ROMs and everything out there on my Nexus.
Now, is there something I'm missing out to do on it?
I just mean to know what else could we do on a smart phone so it really becomes a next gen device.
I thank profusely all those hard working developers out there who have helped me do all those things and now that they have, they motivate me to do more.
That, and that I constantly need to see something new.
Please help I'm out of ideas.
