LCD Density

LCD Density is a tweak I like to make due to my eye sight (or lack thereof). There are a few apps that will change this setting for you provided you have root access. The problem I've run into is the dreaded "your device is not compatible" on the Play Store (Android Market). The reason behind this was due to an awkward setting. 2 out of 3 apps I've used in the past had pre-set configurations. Usually the settings to choose from were 240 (default) 260, 280. On the smaller side were 220, 200, and 180. What I found out recently is 256 is the native PPI. So do yourself a favor and find an app that has a sliding scale in increments of 1 PPI and set your Atrix2 to 256 if you'd like a bit larger images and text. Its helped me feel comfortable using my phone and I no longer incur the Play Store (Google please change the name back) error. Otherwise I'd have to readjust the LCD density, reboot, clear data for the Store and THEN go get the app. Then change the density BACK...reboot. you get the idea. It was painful. So to make a short story long, LCD density at 256 for the farsighted people like me. Whew! Didn't mean for that to be so long. Hope it helps.

Rom with ability to add larger type

Haven't been around in a while. My wife has the MikTouch-0.5 Rom on her phone. Looking for a ROM recomendation with options to increase font size. I understand that ice cream sandwich can?

One method is to adjust the DPI setting on the rom. Using buildprop editor, you can adjust the setting "ro.sf.lcd_density". The default for the doubleshot (at least with the CM 9.1 build) is 240. Lowering this number reduces the size that objects display, but I assume that increasing it will increase the size. I do have to warn, I have not tried to do this--I generally use 200 as my dpi setting. Changing this setting may also adjust what market applications are available, just as a warning.

Adjusting the LCD density on my phone made it to where no Market app was available for download/update. The Amazon Appstore and SlideME still worked.

there are also some free and paid apps on the market now that do this, you'll find them if you search 'font size' in Google Play. they won't affect how the market sees your device, but with the bigger font but the space where the words go remaining the same, there will be places here and there where words might get cut off at the top or bottom.

what I'm looking for is to change only some font sizes.
I tried some Market apps and modified also the DPI value in build.prop, but these change all font sizes (small, medium and big fonts).
I come from a HTC Desire with Sense 3.5 and now I have a rooted S-off DS4GS with CM 9.1 using this rom:

Actually, text labels under homescreen icons, app drawer etc, look perfect, exacty the same as at my previous Desire, but with DS4GS some in-app texts or menu options look quite bigger now.
Are there different font sizes for small, medium and big fonts? If so, is it possible to configure each of them?

Display size menu option

On my OnePlus 3T and my S7 Edge, there is an option in the Display settings that allows me to adjust the overall display size. It will reduce or increase the look and size of the entire display (smaller text, icons, menus). Does anyone know if the Mate 9 has the same menu, or anything similar?

If you enable that developer options, there is an option labeled "Smallest width", changing that will adjust the dpi and scale everything smaller or bigger.

FYI...The bigger the number, the smaller everything gets. It's the opposite of changing the density in the build prop. I personally like to leave my display size at large and set the smallest width value to 500.

In the settings menu, you tap...display then tap view mode. Then you can choose large, medium or small. I personally like changing the smallest width in developer settings.

Maybe is it possible to get tablet ui working here? Tryed to change dpi through dev options, but nothing, if i even set it to 600.
On Nexus 6p, i put that on 590 and had tablet ui in apps working.

You can just change it in the display mode setting no need to mess about I have it on small

I could get a quasi tablet looking interface for gmail app using a dpi of 800. By tablet looking interface I mean that, besides the usual list of emails, some of the options you get by swiping to right from left edge were present on the screen without swiping. For example I now had the option to switch email provider, (from gmail to aol) without swiping. The problem is that changing dpi to 800 hosed "settings". It would crash if I tried to open it. Fortunately the dpi did not stick when I rebooted. For those that use Dolphin browser, by changing dpi to 480 (from the default 432) you can get a 4 by 4 grid of icons for speed dial (instead of the 3 by 3 that comes by default setting of dpi).
Personally, I would not want my global dpi to be 800. I would just want certain apps to run with higher dpi. Normally I do this with the Xposed module App Settings. But, as AFAIK, that is not possible on nougat at this point. If someone knows how to modify an app to change it's individual dpi setting please do chime in!

Optimal DPI

Hi,
what is optimal DPI in your opinion, for the OP7 Pro?
And how does variable screen resolution affect DPI set in settings? Times used to be easier when display resollution was fixed at 1080p. Do one needs to disable this autochanges in settings to keep table image size?
I used to have either 390 or 400 DPI set virtually all the time on my Oneplus 3, Oneplus 5 and Oneplus 6T... But with this unnecessarily high resolution that is, absurdly, used only sometimes, I would like to hear your experiences.

In OOS, I use the "Small" setting in display which comes to 470dpi
In AOSP, it is probably pretty similar. I basically move the slider in display down one notch. I am not currently on AOSP so I'm not positive what that setting is or the actual dpi value.

Default was 392 or something, I changed it to 500, nice, then I went for 5000, which was stupid, phone brick out, but fine after reset. Now I am at 650 dpi. I just wanted to know the limit. Can someone help?

Hello friends ... you have also seen this happen in every operating system .... When we moving any apps to sd card, their floating widgets were disable in the system ...... Is there a way to An application that is on an external card but Still keep its floating widgets active on the home screen? My android is 4.2.2 and rooted ... Of course, this has nothing to do with the system being rooted.

How Android's display is rendered depends on interplay of both the Screen Resolution and the Screen Density.
Android by default knows of these generalized densities :

So if you go beyond 640, say 800, your phone would crash?
