Does anyone know if I were to buy a Verizon Pixel today would I be able to unlock the bootloader? I ask about "today" because I'm not sure what software the phones are shipping with and from the bit I've read, the original forced-unlock tool only worked on earlier builds.
Or am I way off base here?
You are correct, with the December update they can't be unlocked. So far they are not shipping with the December update. I doubt they will any time soon.

Same. Got mine last weekend, no problems with depixel8.
I received my Pixel yesterday from Verizon and it did not have the 7.1.1 update installed so unlocking the bootloader should still be possible. What I'd like to know is if I were to unlock it, would I be able to apply the 7.1.1 update and still have it unlocked?

Unlock it first. It will update as long as you don't root or mod it. It will remain unlocked.

Yep, once you are unlocked you are good forever. I did mine exactly as I described. No SIM, unlocked, took the update and then rooted.

Lol, 1 more question, do we need to do updates in sequence or just jump right to the latest, which is 7.1.1(nmf26q)

If you are going to fastboot flash the full image, jump to the latest. If you are going to let or download ota'd mine also jumped to the latest. So guess it doesn't matter.

So I've got the regular Google Pixel from Verizon and I am on 7.1.1 NOF27B, my question is so there's absolutely no work around to unlock the bootloader to then gain root access? Just curious, if so I think I"m gonna need to switch carriers then lmao

You can pretty much give up on xposed for N. Maybe all together. The dev is just more focused on real life and google keeps closing the security holes that things like xposed uses. Also he would already be working with the android O code

This is my first Samsung device since the S4 I knew this bootloader is locked, my question is once there's an exploit for root and we are able to flash ROMs through flashfire is it an easy method? I always used twrp, and if I wanted to go back to stock or something messed up how would I restore everything? Please and thank you

Hello, i am currently on pure nexus with the April update on tmobile (pixel xl). I have a few questions I'm hoping someone could answer before diving in. Which factory image do i use, 7.1.2 May N2G47T? I would like to be able to take ota updates after I'm done, i take it that this would now be possible then? Also, do i need to relock my bootloader to take ota updates. Thanks

No, that is the image for Deutsce Telekom. You want N2G47K. They are labeled on the full image page.
You do not need to relock to get ota's

Ok, but that is April's image, is there a May image i can use?
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Hey there buddy,
Google's website for Factory and OTA includes images/releases from certain carriers. I live in Canada for example so version 7.1.0(I think?) has a release for my specific carrier, so whenever I factory reset, I use that one then relock my bootloader directly after. This leads me to receiving proper OTA everytime.
Other than finding your own carrier image, your best bet is using the standard build flash.
Always be careful with flashing and tinkering and best of luck! =]

Yes. There are three. Verizon, Dutch Telecom and everyone else. Tmobile is in the everyone else category so you are good with that one.

I myself am with Tmobile as well and still on N2G47E, April's Build.
I didn't upgrade to May's build because I read there was an issue with TWRPRC1/RC2 or SU with the bootloader on May
I was wondering if this issue has been solved? Is there another zip I need to flash as well?
So far I have been sticking with Stock Rom, but I root with SU and use elemental X kernal with TWRP. thanks!
I have been able to gain root access to all my vzw devices except the latest LG G4 I received after mainboard repair.
Is there a way to root the vzw Pixel 2 XL I bought yesterday with 8.1.0 Security Patch Level April 5, 2018 - Build number OPM2.171019.029 ?
At this point the main reason I want to root the phone is to install Viper4Android.
Thanks,
nopes

My bad - I was under the impression for some reason that the two were lumped together.
No, but the pxl2 xl forum is an LG based phone and a known dev for the v20 thinks he may have just cracked MANY lg phones. It's looking very promising for unlocked bootloader on the xl in the very near future. I recommend disabling updates for the moment just Incase.

It's no closer now than it was in October when the device was released. He might as well take the updates, the phone is not getting rooted. Most have given up even trying.
Okay.
Op, If you'd like to read what I was talking about
Start on page 93 or so. It may not pan out, but it looks very promising.

Hello!
Just got my 7P from the Black Friday sale (I'm in Europe so a friend who was flying in got it for me).
Still haven't turned it on. Question: should I update first, then root? Or root first, then update?
Maybe it's a silly question and the answer is "update first because updating will remove rooting anyhow", but I don't know if they have maybe changed something lately and rooting is more difficult or whatever...
Thanks!
Yu can always update your phone, some you will, before and after root
So if it's all the same I guess I'll update first or I'll have to re-root...
You can update to beta & then root. No worries. However, If you want to install a custom rom, you may want to stay on 12 until checking the requirements of the ROM.

If you want to update while keep root you can use Pixel Flasher.
i gonna suggest to disable dm-verity at the first time as well, so if in the future you opt to use custom kernel (which i think, you should) you wont need to wipe your phone

Yeah, custom ROMs lie in the future for now... but coming from OnePlus I am familiar with official ROM/fw requirements for them, thanks!

Running newest beta just released ..I got pixel to root and stuff..Phones are boring now ..But I gotta figure it out soon as I get time .Just haven't had time yet
When I got mine, before I even inserted the SIM, I connected to WiFi and updated Android and Google Play, then I inserted the SIM, ran through the setup quickly, unlocked bootloader, rebooted and rooted using Pixel Flasher, wiping Veritas and Verification. That way for any future updates, I would be set to flash with PF, moving forward and that has been very simple
Thanks, awesome. Sounds like a great tool, wish there was something like that for OnePlus!
