Hello guys and gals,
I was wondering if anyone could fill me in on what exactly device administrator is able to see on my phone and do to my phone.
I recently installed outlook on my phone and it asked me to activate device administrator. I did all of this this on my second profile.
I created a profile for work then installed outlook then activated device administrator.
I am concerned about my privacy and worried my IT Dept is able to see information on my phone that I would not like them to see. Particularly photos, contacts, messages, browsing history, etc.
If they are able to see this information is there anything I can do to prevent this ? I am rooted and unlocked. However, I have nothing installed as of now on my work profile.
Thanks in advance!
Device admin privileges allow an app to do things such as turn on and off the screen, lock the device, or even remotely wipe the phone. It sounds scary but it's standard for most company email clients. They would only do that if you reported your phone as lost or stolen to prevent unauthorized access to company info.
Ok that doesn't sound so bad then. Thank you for clearing that up.

I'm kinda in a daze from losing my Nexus S last night. The hangover is probably contributing to said daze. I don't have one of those security apps installed. I must have forgotten to restore it when I flashed a new ROM. My inner child is on my inner floor bawling his eyes out at the moment.
Anyway, my question is, what can I do to ensure minimal loss of my privacy. I have already changed all my passwords. Does this automatically unsync my account on the phone? I mean, will the phone ask whoever has it to re-enter the new password? What else am I forgetting? What else can I do?
Would appreciate it if "You should have"s are avoided. Thanks!
I know for sure that if you have changed your Google/Gmail Password, that the phone will prompt for a new one. As far as 'unsyncing' I do not know. I didn't check to see if my contacts/emails/calendar etc were removed when I changed the password and the phone prompted for a new one.
I will change my password again, see what happens and let you know.
*****EDIT*****
I changed my password for my phone, I got a notification about a sign in error, that prompted for a password. The dialing functions still worked as normal, any emails that you had cached were also visibile as well as the calendar. I rebooted without updating the password and could still call out as normal, but when I tried to access the Gmail app, it tried to sync the inbox, but prompted for a password right away.
I don't have any apps installed with other sensitive information, but I would imagine those would function as normal.
Hope this helps.
You could try lookout mobile security "plan b" will help find it.

Hmm sorry to hear that dude, i would probably be bawling on the floor too!
Although... i probably will install one of those security apps now...
Thanks for your help, guys.
Even if you don't change password but someone change sim card, android will require reenter password for sync

I don't know if Plan B would work seeing as how his Google Account is tied to the market account. Because he changed his password and the phone lost connection with the Google account, I don't believe remote installs will work, but I could be wrong.

Yes, I was wondering the same thing. I picked up a new Nexus S(not SAMOLED unfortunately) and synced it up and everything. Finally got to a PC and looked up my Market Account. It listed both phones under devices and I could go all the way to installing it on both phones. It located my current phone.
Unfortunately, I blocked my SIM card prematurely(did not know about Plan B), so, I can't send out the locate SMS. But, I figure whoever has it has probably removed the SIM card, or does not know how to charge it if the battery is dead or is using a SIM on it without a data connection. So, no data connection means no app on the phone. I haven't received an email from Plan B for the lost phone.
Why is the phone is still linked to my market account? I can see that the carrier has been changed which means a new SIM.
For now I'm just satisfying myself by installing inane and useless apps on the phone. HAHA! I hope it works and the app installation is going through. I've pretty much lost hope of finding it.
My company sent out an email saying phones with root access will no longer be able to use MobileIron or Exchange to get email access on rooted devices. We will have to login using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Since the change and getting kicked off, I have found it very frustrating not getting emails while away from my computer and being out of the loop when I run into someone in the hall who starts up a conversation about the latest announcement that I haven't had a chance to read. Or running into someone, setting up a quick meeting, and then having to recreate the calendar appointment on my computer when I just did it on my phone as well. Or, lastly, creating an appointment on my computer and then later realizing I don't have the details on my phone because they no longer sync. Point is, "do without" is not an option here.
Does anyone know of a workaround for this apart from asking the boss for a company phone and carrying two phones around? Is there a way to make a certain app think I don't have root?
If there's really no way around getting it to just plain work, I'd even be OK if there was some relatively automated way to sync the data (calendar appointments and emails) between my computer and phone once a day on a schedule. Any ideas on solutions here?

Read articles about app called EXPOSED. It has one of its modules that makes a company cannot detect wether you are rooted. You can install EXPOSED and find the module you want to include. For further knowledge about it, search righ here.

I swear this issue has to be server-side because I can't find any reason for the phone to behave this way.
XT1034
Android 4.4.2
System version 174.44.1
Stock + Rooted + Bootloader Unlocked
This issue happened BEFORE root & bootloader unlock as well. It even happened on Android 4.3 when I first took the phone out of the box. Please refer to screenshots below to show that weird things are happening.
In the stock mail app, no matter how many times I plug in variations of my credentials and our server, I always receive Can't Connect To Server as my error message.
I actually have 2 choices of ways to format my username. I've tried them both.
(1) long-domain.com\username
(2) domain\username
As can be seen below, my Active Directory record shows that I have ActiveSync features enabled for my account. I shouldn't have a problem with this.
HOWEVER, the server itself is acknowledging a successful connection because my phone shows up in the device list under my account. It's just that the phone seems to not like whatever response it's seeing from the server.
I've tried 3rd party apps. Touchdown works. Nine does not. I'd rather not continue to use Touchdown because its interface is hideous and I don't want to spend $20 on it. I can't be the only person who has had Exchange/ActiveSync issues on my Moto G, right?
We are sorry about causing inconvenience in using Nine. We first would like to review your logs for us to verify the details.
Please send the logs to [email protected]
Thanks,

I'm new to the S7, though drove a Moto X Pure on Marshmallow for a while and am familiar with my way around settings. I've only had the S7 a couple of days and hadn't gotten any trusted devices to keep it unlocked reliably. I recently had several apps update and then now when I go look, The Smart Lock (Google) Trust agent is 'disabled by administrator' and it is now greyed-out and I can't turn it on. Similarly all my trusted devices are greyed-out.
Any ideas here. The one thing I CAN think of is that I'm using built-in mail to connect to my company's exchange server, so they do have the ability to push admin rules. I had the account connected before I saw this behavior, however I suppose they might push out polices only once every week or so and I just hit the day.
Any other thoughts?

straight thought is wht u said
thr is extra policy for ur device.
remove the exchange server and check wht happen...
if nothing changed go to security setting and clear credentials and remove all admins app
:good:
I would suggest to put your company email in the myknox app. This isolates any compny policies for accessing your device.

+1 for this suggestion. I'm a big fan of My Knox. It sets Samsung apart in this area.

Some third party email apps are capable of applying Exchange policies on the application level instead of device level. Thus leaving the rest of the device under your control. Try an app like Nine which can do just that. The are other apps too but I like this one.
Thanks Everyone. I'll try those. It sounds like myknox might help if this is it. On my Moto X I was using before, I used Touchdown for exchange (cause the ootb mail client sucked) and it similarly kept the admin policies to the app.
hmm, removed the exchange account. now things aren't greyed out anymore. I could go into trust agents and Smart Lock (Google) is enabled. I go into phone administrators and there are two: "Android Device Manager" and Support & Protection". I turned them both off (I don't know how to REMOVE them). Restarted phone. No change in behavior. My screen still locks when, for example, connected to my Gear S2 watch though that's one of the trusted devices for smart lock..
nevermind, it's working. I was just expecting different behavior. I still have to 'swype to unlock' but I'm not hit up for credentials anymore. I was expecting that when I woke the phone it would go to the last screen it was on. I don't know why, my Moto didn't do that. I think it was having the fingerprint sensor now that just messed up my mental processing.
A very simple alternative to the same effect is offered by the Exchained app. No root required.
I found if you go to lock screen (in setting: device) and create and lock screen pattern. Trust agents becomes available (in security settings: advanced), you can then turn it on and smart lock becomes available (in security settings: advanced).
There is a youtube video about it: How To Enable Smart Lock On Any Device
Unrelated to smart lock: As user "Avah" said, I highly recommend Nine email for connecting to your exchange server. It does not force the administration policies on your device (or at least, it may ask you, and you can decline). Better than the built-in clients and way better than the old Touchdown app.
Hello everyone! Recently, I bought a phone from a stranger. Unfortunately, he set up my phone, so my phone will automatically record my phone calls and sends to that stranger. I can't see any suspicious apps, probably he hid that malware. It is vivo y02, it has a security check, but it didn't find anything. How can I fix that, so I can freely breathe and don't think about my personal data being leaked?

First, Log out of your Google Account (log out of all Accounts you have in phone)
Two: Reset phone to default settings (reset).
Three: Enjoy no Spy-ware phone
