OS update 8.0 - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I bought this htc u11 last month when i was in India. It's an unlocked version. However, i see that htc has already rolled out the os update and November patch through ota. Now, I'm in Ireland. I'm checking for system updates but unable to get one and the news state that os has started to roll out for sprint htc u11. Does country change affect the updates? I was using vodafone in india and now I'm using lyca. Also, i initially bought google pixel 2 xl but there were loads of glitches. I did love the device but due to hardware issues, more time requirement to sort and since i did not have much time had to have it returned. However, it was returned and bought u11. I'm putting this up since i have read that google release out android updates. So would be some kind of avengers or something? I'm eagerly waiting for the update since i have seen it unlocks lots more functions on the device.
Awaiting your response. And apologies for such a ling convo.

Updates are for the phone not the carrier. You should be able to get the update via WiFi if its available.
If the phone has been rooted then you'll have to reset it back to stock before the update will show.

I just updated to Android 8 ( stock rom) and it became sluggish... It was way more fluid with Android 7... Don't update yet!!!
BTW any suggestions??
I don't think I can downgrade back to Android 7 being no root ???

[OTA] htc ota_bravo_froyo_htc_wwe_2.09.405.8

Hi everyone,
I have an HTC Desire (UNBRANDED/UNLOCKED) from Vodafone DE, and today, while I was searching for updates (MENU>SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE>SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATES), the following update was available for download:
OTA_BRAVO_FROYO_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8-1.21.405.2_RELEASE4dua3bcrut4wrv30.zip
Last time a software update was offered (OTA_BRAVO_VODAFONE_UK_1.24.161.3-1.19.161.5_RELEASEUJUPDPJMMTQ8X7GA.ZIP), I made the mistake to download it and install it, just to find out that it was full of the Vodafone 360 CRAP. What a nightmare that was.
Well, I managed (with help of XDA-Forums, and others) to get it unbranded and unlocked again with an original HTC software (1.21.405.2).
Bottom line is that I would like to make sure that the new software update won't have the VF 360 crap again before I update my phone.
P.S.
Attached is an screenshot of the offered OTA Update.

The ota is a genetic version aka unbranded
Atmaui,
After having owned an Himalaya, Blue Angel, Hermes and Diamond, I'm pretty new to Android and still on the learning curve (had my desire for 4 days).
I just wanted to thank you for the path to firmware upgrade. Simple, trivial and even stupid, but I was still wondering how to get there...
Again, big thanks
Hal

OTA Lollipop update

Hello,
I have just bought this phone and I am curious how much I have to wait until I get the 5.0 update request. Now I am using 4.4.4
Thank you.
Well mine is about week or two old now. And im also on 4..4.4 Im not sure what's the reason wh'y its not updating. Seems like everyone with new nexus 5 have this problem. We just have to wait i guess.
If nothing will change i will probably unlock bootloader next year and update it manually. Then again looks like there are huge battery life problems on lollipop. It might be better to stay on 4.4.4
Same case here. I bought a new Nexus on the 13th of December. After turning on the phone for the first time, I received a couple of OTA updates until 4.4.4. But I haven't received yet the lollipop OTA update request.
Finally I decided to manually load the OTA by following the tutorial here:
http://www.talkandroid.com/guides/b...on-your-nexus-device-download-links-included/
After my phone was manually updated to 5.0, I automatically received the OTA for 5.0.1

Same here, bought my nexus 5 two weeks ago. My nexus 4 already running 5.0.1 but the nexus 5 still 4.4.4. Maybe it's for the better given the nexus 5 lollipop issues. Probably jump straight to 5.0.2

My testing phone can't find an update - stuck on an old software version

Hi!
I've recently received a demo unit of Xperia XZ (F8331) which I have to write a review on. I must return it to the carrier within three weeks. The problem is that the phone is stuck on a very old version of marshmallow, specifically version 39.0.A.1.213 and July 2016 security patch. When I check for updates in settings or with Sony's phone Companion, there aren't any updates found. I'd really like to get the official nougat running on the device, but I mustn't void the warranty or leave any traces of software changing since I have to return it. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks in advance.
Flash nougat ftf with flashtool, here a guides to follow.

Carriers usually controls the availability of the update (they have to approve the new SW, etc).. this sometimes can be the reason of a delayed update.
However, other common issues with update is that your device came with unlocked bootloader and/or it's rooted or even it's a device with special SW for review units.
If you check in the Xperia Firm, there are 3 units stuck at this version (see screenshot).
If you are allowed to flash your device, I do recommend you do it manually.

Yeah just leave it well alone it's not yours to mess with...

Hi!
Just a little update. I did upgrade it by following the tutorial found on xda. I flashed the official nougat firmware for my country (Slovenia, if anyone is interested... There is only one official firmware for it on XperiFirm) all went through smoothly. The warranty is still there (checked in settings) and everything works better. I am guessing it was a pre-released version of software installed on it which had blocked updates because of the old July 2016 security patch. The bootloader was and still is untouched (checked that). I hope they don't notice, but if they do, I guess I'll just to buy my first Xperia hahah What do you guys think - have I made a mistake?
Thanks for help, everyone!

Is Android 9 Pie worth it? Still on 8.1 Aug here

I've a TA-1055 in the UK and haven't had an update since the August security patch 8.1.
I know others have the Android 9 update but I'm still waiting for the OTA to arrive. There are some features I like in the latest version but there are plenty of posts on here about problems and how to rollback to 8.1.
Like with every version if updates go smoothly and all working fine then yes updating is always recommended but Pie still seems buggy over all.
Is it worth upgrading yet?

Don't know if it is worth upgrading. I am also in UK on TA-1055 Oreo 8.1 but Oct security patch which came OTA. Still no sign of OTA update to 9 and HMD support is useless regarding info about UK versions getting it. They keep saying it takes time to roll out.

No real issues on mine, very happy with Pie.
But as this forum shows, YMMV.
No issues whatsoever on Pie, here. The only problem I have with the phone right now is that the brightness doesn't go below 16%, which isn't related to the Pie update, according to reddit.

I have an issue with camera... When taking a photo and trying to view it from within the app... the camera app just stop responding...
I did not have this issue on Oreo.
T-1046 Running pie with Nov update...

not have this problem with 3.39b on ta-1046
Not worth it if you like being a maybe semi newbie super user with this, because after it you'll become an iSheep.
As with any new phone I always disable most of the stock Google apps from the start. Just thought I'd re-enable the main Google app and reboot into safe mode.
Bosh! Now I get the update notification for Android 9 and ran the install plus received all the latest security updates.
Main instant issue on Pie is the search bar that cannot be removed without using a new launcher or rooting..Bugger
OTA Pie arrived on my UK TA-1055
Just to note that I got the OTA Pie update here in the UK on a TA-1055 last night. I was on 8.1.0 August before that.
It came through with the November security update, the December update came through straight after.
All seems to be working fine with no factory reset or out like that.
No issues with mine, but nothing to write home about either. Android 9.0 is meh in general. Don't stress so much about it.
I upgraded from Oreo w/ Oct SP to Pie w/ Dec SP. Is it worth the upgrade? I'll let the Pie battery stats speak for itself ? (n.b. I fully wiped /data by factory reset from recovery then restored from Google cloud backup).

Anyone with a HK Version getting pie yet

Hi all,
I purchased my U11+ from Wondamobile back in 2017 and have never had an update still on the Dec 2017 security patch
I wanted to know if there has been updates but I'm not getting any due to being in the UK ?
I'm in the U.S. and also have an HTC U11+ (HK version) that's still on the Dec 2017 security patch. Curious if anyone's received the Hong Kong Pie update or know when it will be rolled out ?
they say from HTC , the update comes after 45-90 days after taiwan version...
Exact same here - very disappointing.
Any one updated to Android Pie yet? Any difference in battery life and device performance?
This version will never see an update
I've not had one in almost 2 years since I got the device
Such a shame
No! I bought my U11 PLUS in H.K. 2018 April and it is still running 8.0.0

From their Facebook fanpage, but delayed already.
Same
There is finally a software update for the HK version 1.24.400.16. Downloading now.
Android Pie now on HTC U11+ Hong Kong version!
Can't make this up!
Shortly after my previous post, I messaged the HTC Hong Kong on facebook. Thereafter, I received an Android 8 update (May 2018 update) Thereafter, I received the Android Pie update.
I live in Canada. Not sure if this has anything to do with it or if my security software (doubt it) was inhibiting updates.
Just the screenshot to HTC
Android P now downloading.
I'm having trouble getting mine to update the OTA, once the phone reboots it'll hit 24% and then hit me the red ! . Does this mean I have to flash all of stock RUU?
Yup! Downloading as I type.
Update #1: Damn! It is not PIE!
Update #2: After system rebooted, I hit the check update software button and got this...

Now downloading 2.19.400.2
It's like Xmas come early as I haven't seen an update since the Dec 2017 update
It might bring new Life to this old boy.
I was considering the Pixel 4 but then I saw that it had the same specs as my current phone ? (albeit it probably does a lot more on Android 10)
U11+ was ahead of its time ....shame the updates were wack
