This is mostly for rom developers but I suppose other people might find use for it.
We always tell everyone to do a nandroid backup before flashing anything, and then we often do a cpio backup of data during the rom flash and restore that. redundant.
I've made some scripts to integrate a nandroid compatible backup into the rom install, or any cwm zip for that matter. Then you can restore it as well, or just data. Afterwards, I clear cache, lost+found, dalvik, and tombstones to prevent any problems.
Doing it this way the user has a full nandroid backup, and you have a data backup to restore post rom install.
It also backsup the kernel, recovery and .android_secure... which is apps on the sdcard.

Is this similar to this-

only in that its a backup... using my script your backups can be restored in CWM. and it can restore cwm nandroid backups, i made it as an alternative to the current way backups are being made during installs. this gets the kernel, recovery, data system, apps installed to the sd.. everything, and the rom developer can restore whichever parts they deem necessary.. but the full backup is there should the user wish to revert using cwm...
Aha! I do believe I have a use for this in my customizations!
Hey, I want to flash the ICS Kernel, but with doing a backup before flashing.
Does an nandroid backup with CWM include boote partition backup or not?
And if not, how to make one?
Thank you
Chris
Yes it does. When doing a backup you backup everything basically
Hi there,
I'm new to this forum, I have read a lot, thanx for the info for sa far!
My question is: I have a LG G2 an made a backup using Online Nandroid Backup (NORMAL BACKUP MODE).
When I browse the backup, there's a modem partition (3 MB).
If I try to make a backup using SELECTIVE BACKUP MODE, I can choose what partitions to backup. But there's no option to backup the modem partition.
How can I make a single nandroid backup of this partition?
(I tried to make a nandroid backup of the EFS partition, but that was empty)
Thank you in advance!
Regards Erik

I have TWRP 3.2.3.0 running with Xiaomi Mi5. I had created a data backup with a rom I do not anymore use, but it contains an app’s data I want to recover.
Is there a way to parse the twrp backup files with a tool (PC perhaps) to extract the specific folder from the data and restore it?
Or, is there a tool that can read the twrp backup and partially restore the selected app data?
Thanks
Hi, can we restore only user data/ app data from the backed up file from recovery. We are not looking to get the ROM restored.
For an example, I had a custom ROM and in order to install another custom ROM, I've backup the internal data + system. Now, on my new ROM i require the old apps and app data present. Since I have a backup file, is it possible to restore only app data from the file?
Note: Titanium backup works only on root.
Background story: Root attempt has soft bricked my phone multiple times using SU 2.46. Hence, I have completely refused Titanium backup for phone's sake.
Thanks in advance.
