Multiple system error after new app install or app upgrade!! - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have a modded photon q with Carbon kitkat rom (working without problems for over 2 years) but now I have a problem:
- If I update any of my apps system reboots and gets stuck in bootloop, If I go to twrp recovery and delete the files of the updated app the phone can restart.
I have cleared cache and dalvik-cache , but if I install a new app or update an old app I get same problem.
I have cleaned EVERYTHING, formatted from twrp, manually wiped all partitions and made a clean install of CarbonKK whith pico opengapps.....I can install all of my OLD apps (I make a backup so don't waist data to redownload) and it works.....but AGAIN if I download any update or install a new app GET BOOTLOOP AGAIN!!!
I have recleaned EVERYTHINK, flashed CM12.1 and a 2 month ago version of opengapps, and again I can install my old apps but if I download any new ones I get "launcher error" "system error" "settings error" etc etc.....until I reboot into recovery and manually delete latest app files.....
I have tried 2 different versions of CM12.1 and 2 different versions of opengapps BUT STILL NOTHING CHANGES!!!
I have booted without SD and still no change!!!
Have you any ideas???
What can I do to get a working OS on my phone????

Update:
tried a clean install (CM12.1) without gapps....downloaded fx from store with yalp and still got ERROR!!!

Gapps problem after updating Cyanogen mod

I just updated Cyanogen mod from 10.1 to 10.2.0-d2vzw, which updated the phone from Android 4.2 to 4.3, which requires a new gapps. So I downloaded gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip, which is what cyanogenmod’s website said to use, and put the .zip file on my SD card. I then told cyanogenmod to go ahead with the update, and it proceeded to reboot the phone into TWRP and install the update without giving me a chance to select the new gapps. The phone then rebooted as normal into a working Android 4.3, but Keep, Hangouts, Google Drive, etc crash immediately. I figured this was because I did not get to install the new gapps, so I manually boot into TWRP and install the new gapps only. After the installation is done, I reboot my phone successfully, but I still have the same problem where Keep, Hangouts, Google Drive, and maybe others are still crashing. The play store does seem to work now though. What steps should I take to fix these apps? I do have root access. Thanks!

[Q] "App not installed" after factory reset.

Hello.
Yesterday i did a factory reset on my phone. After which i am unable to install a "few apps".I have tried installing app from the .apk file i had as backup and also from Play store but no success.
When trying to install from .apk file the app begins to install but after like 3 or 4 seconds it says.
"App not installed"
nothing else.
i tried to install the same app from Play store, again no success. App downloads 100% but when installing it says something like "unknown error: error code"-24" " and then nothing.
This happens for a few Apps only. They are all server softwares that contain Apach,PHP,MySQL.The first of these i installed was KSweb server. Then last time i did a factory reset i faced this problem for KSweb server. I tried quite a lot of things but no success.
So i downloaded another app (DroidPHP) with same functionality it was downloded and installed fine and also worked great. But yesterday i did a factory reset again after 4 months maybe. And now i am unable to install DroidPHP aswell. Also KSweb is not installing and showing same error.
i have an unrooted phone running Jelly Beans 4.2
Try to push app to system/app then reboot,
Or Wipe data,Cache & flash a Rom fully!

[Q] (Google Play Store) Error retrieving information from server [RPC:S-7 :AEC-7]

Greetings,
I had some issues uninstalling xposed on my HTC One M8 that was recently updated to lollipop so I reverted back to a stock lollipop rom directly from Telus. Every time I try and download an app from the Play Store I get the following message.
"nameofapp" could not be downloaded due to an error. (Error retrieving information from server. [RPC:S-7 :AEC-7])
This is what I have tried so far:
- Clear cache on Google Play Services (Framework) and Google Play Store
- removed update from Google Play Store
- updated Play Store manually to newest APK
- rebooted in between these steps
- removed Google Account + cleared cache + all data for all Google Apps and services
Sometimes when I reboot it will let me update or download 1-3 apps, then it will just bring back that error. I'm at a loss as to what I should try as googling this error brings up the same solutions every single time. Other then this issue the phone itself appears to be functioning properly. My phone is unlocked and rooted but I do not have xposed or any other custom mods running. I'm also using the latest version of TWRP. I have also noticed that sometimes when I disconnect from wifi and attempt to download from 4G the download actually goes through. Not exactly a solution as I have limited data available to me. Any ideas?

Flash GApps via TWRP. If it doesn't help, bring your phone back to full stock, including flashing firmware + rom and make sure to format systen + data partition
before flashing the new rom.

Thanks for the help. I tried to flash the google apps but TWRP kept giving me errors that the package wasn't compatible with my phone. I located a nandroid of Telus lollipop stock and flashed that after I have formatted the system and data partitions as you have recommended. I dont believe I needed to do firmware as I have never had anything but stock firmware on the device. Everything appears to be functioning now as I can download and update from the play store once again.
Out of curiosity are you able to tell me why I encountered that issue? I cant seem to find exactly what that error even means. While i'm still very new to the android scene with flashing custom roms and device modification I have never once had that issue.
that is a "host" error, using a file manager, go to your /system/etc folder, open the "hosts" file, as a text file, and erase all.. except the local host:
Sorry bad english

cm 13 - unfortunately setup wizard has stopped

Device - OnePlus One
Problem 1 ->
Ive tried to flash latest cm13 and gapps zip file
ROM - cm-13.0-20151127-NIGHTLY-bacon.zip
Gapps - open_gapps-arm-6.0-pico-20151127.zip
I did the following:
1. Copied ROM and gapps to device
2. Installed twrp v2.8.7.0
3. Rebooted to recovery
4. Wiped system,cache,dalvik cache
5. Install -> ROM and gapps
6. Wipe cache/dalvik
7. Reboot device.
When the phone starts, i get "Android is upgrading - optimizing apps.." , and once the optimizing part completes then immediately im getting error - "Unfortunately, Google App has stopped"
If i select "ok", it pops up again.
Im unable to use my device since the error message doesnt go away.
Problem 2 -
I got tired of trying to get cm 13 and decided to revert to cm 12.1
I followed all the above mentioned steps for flashing using cm 12.1 ROM
Now the ROM and gapps are flashed but when the phone starts, it goes through the process - "Android is upgrading - optimizing apps..", once that completes the screen goes blank.
On restarting the device, again i get "Android is upgrading - optimizing apps..", and once again the screen goes blank.
Problem 3 -
This ones not that bad actually.... I followed the above steps and just flashed cm13 ROM and didnt install gapps.
Now the device boots up.
Ive downloaded and installed Play store apk.
Then i installed the latest google play services apk
Now im getting the error "Unfortunately, Google play services has stopped"
How do i proceed now??
I have no idea what to do now.
Plz Plz help.
Thanks in advance
I am going through the exact same problem on the exact same device with the exact same versions of update file and gapps zip file.
After almost trying to search any possible solution to it on google and xda, I gave up and tried to solve it myself by looking into the phone itself. There wasnt much I was able to do because of the Crash Loop saying "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped". So to rest the situation for now, I somehow went into Setting > Apps > Show System > Setup Wizard with setting logo and not the Cynogen Logo one! And Force stopped it.
Also, I cant open my home on the phone either. I press the home button and the Setup Wizard starts to crash again!
Its painful to see your beloved phone struggle to work like that! I sometimes hate CynogenMod for their nightlies and wish I could go back to the stable versions of Oxygen or CM 12!
ok so how many gapps packages have you guys downloaded and tried? Ar you tryig each time with the same gapps and rom that is giving you issues
1. Did you make Nandroid Backup of your stabe phone ?
If yes. Flash that and you'll get working phone again.
2. Gapps package you guys are installing are meant for Lollipop or Marshmellow ?

Tried More than 5 Different Gapps

Initially, I thought its just an update. So there wont be any need to install Gapps back again. But then The Play store kept crashing. So I rebooted my phone after cleaning Google Play Services and Play Store.
That didn't help. Then Found somewhere written that the issue might be caused by corrupt Gapps or incompatible Gapps, So tried installing The Gapps downloaded from OpenGapps. There I downloaded all the versions of it from , Stock to nano and pico. None of them helped. The Phone is still crashing saying The Setup Wizard has stopped. Can't open Home Screen Either. Can't open Keyboard either.

Have you tried CM12.1 again ? May be resurrection remix rom ?
Try flashing the CM12.1 rom again .. If you are able to access recovery then use can also use USB-OTG ..
Download ROM, Firmware and Opengapps of Lollipop and try ..

I've installed cm12.1 and gapps 5.1 nano.
Now the device is working properly...earlier when i was trying to flash cm12.1 (as ive described in Problrm 2) , probably i was using a wrong version of gapps/ROM (im unsure which one)
Thanks for your suggestion Abhinav.
Im going to stick with cm12.1 for a while now till cm13 is tested a bit more. Im sure that if we get a solution for cm 13 issue, many users would be benefited.
Once again, thank you for your support, ur doing a fabulous job XDA.

Found a solution!
Looks like the Gapps from Opengapps werent compatible with the 6.0 Marshmallow yet.
I spent a day looking for different gapps and tried them all on my phone.
The only gapps file which worked with CM13.120151128 update for the oneplus one was this one -->
But before installing this, In TWRP you need to Go to Wipe>Advanced Wipe And select > System, Data, Dalvik and Cache to wipe everything from your phone. Then Fresh install CM13.120151128 and Slim Zero gapps you downloaded from the above link!
All Of this, only if you want to really run your phone with Android 6.0 Marshmallow!

After a lot of trying i finally managed to solve this setup wizard error by using the following steps. Without doing any clean wipe.
you have to be very patient and try to do the steps in between the clicks on the error OK button.
Go to Settings from notification drawer. APPS-- Click on 3 dots on the right top... select system apps.
Select setup wizard, one without CM logo.
And instead of blocking notifications from it, provide it complete access in permissions. I believe it needs access to contacts and telephone
This solved the trick for me.. I have no details to how this solves the error. You may give it a try.. Good luck.

From what i had seen, this case occurs when you didn't do a proper flash along with gapps. Make sure you flash the desired rom and with it the correct gapps package at a single stretch. Then Wipe Dalvik Cache and Reboot.
So just do a dirty flash and gapps.
I am not sure why you are not able to access your phone when TWRP is on. For me I had that option, copied the new zip files when in TWRP screen and started flashing from there.

You could try what is described here ... or test with the following:
Disable the Setup Wizard form your PC with
Code:
adb shell pm disable com.google.android.setupwizard
It should display: Package com.google.android.setupwizard new state: disabled
Then you can follow the first steps of @maxpayne1989 's description. Of course you won't see the setup wizard because it is disabled. After enabling it again with
Code:
adb shell pm enable com.google.android.setupwizard
(should display Package com.google.android.setupwizard new state: enabled)
you can select it and try setting the permissions.

"Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped"" application crashed message
I tried the full -> Error 70
only the nano could be flashed and after reboot I got the same error: "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped"" application crashed message
I also tried to wipe ... no changes ..
what can I do to get gapps running on CM13?

and now I can run playstore but can't download apps - I got the error: Error while fetching information from Server

Only the Setup wizard popup stops coming. Thanks for that.
There is a random popup about Google Play services which disappears on its own. I have given all permissions to the Google Play services app using the same steps as provided earlier. Still the same.
Please help.
Also in addition to this, there is a fix given by the OpenGAPPS team on GitHub as Notes for Android 6.0 (Sorry, cannot post link as this is my first post).
Can anyone help me patch this file onto my device (LG Nexus 5)?
Thanks in advance.
Maybe try different versions of gapps? I use the latest pico version and it works on the latest nightly.
I tried, micro, pico, stock.. All with same results. I was using nightly that came out on 12/02/2015.
Currently I reverted back to cm12.1 as I need to use the phone for day to day stuff. Please let me know if the latest nightly does actually fix this. And also which gapps, I will download the specified file and let you know by weekend.
Thanks for the help!
Try these gapps: http://opengapps.org
Yes I was using gapps from this site. I just need confirmation if the new cm13 nightly actually fixes the issue.
I guess it's not even with Cyanogen to fix the issue. The gapps when installed (flashed) , don't get the desired permissions to execute. It should be the a new gapps build released by opengapps. Still, I will keep searching.
PS: please look at the fix given by gapps team. I also don't know where to modify that code.
Here is how i got it to work.
1) Boot to recovery
2) Do a full wipe (Data,System,Cache,Dalvik)
3)Flash CM13
4)Do a wipe (Cache,Dalvik)
5)Flash GAPPS ( I used pico from Open Gapps)
6)Do a wipe (Cache,Dalvik)
7) Do a Factory Reset.
8) Reboot !
That should do it, Don't complain about useless wipes after trying for 2 days this finally worked !
I have my lovely G3 back
Good Luck !
I got it to work to flash it together with the ROM.
Cheers
I managed to make it work by installing CM13, in recovery mount /system and check how much space left on you system partition. After that you can choose the maximum size Gapps that fits the free space.
Wipe all excluding sdcard and USB-OTG. Install CM13 and Gapps together.
After reboot the wizard will not crash.
Other option is risky and can turn your phone into a break This is option is to resize /system to make it bigger.
I used the latest nightly CM13 for Xiaomi Mi4 and twrp-2.8.7.0-cancro

Thanks. This worked for me, although I had 2 Setup Wizard apps. The one with the CM logo had no permissions that needed assigning. The other one did. Once permissions were given, the issue went away. It was tricky to do it between the error dialogs appearing. What helped was switching to the guest account and back, then, occasionally, you had enough time to work the settings.
Had those Problems often, don't know why.
I just delete the settingwizard.apk in twrp (mount system, then system/priv-app if I remember).
Worked Several Times for me - you must do that always After flashing gapps!
My Fix....worked for me on HTC One M8
NOTE: Ensure you have a NANDROID backup BEFORE proceeding with the below, just in case something goes wrong
1. Ensure that you have all required files (CM13 Zip and Open GAPP Zip) saved to your phone (internal or SD card)
2. In my case, I used TWRP, so ensure you have the latest one
3. Boot into TWRP recovery
4. Using ‘WIPE’ option, select ‘Advance’ and choose: Data, Dalvik, Cache, System
5. Using ‘INSTALL’ option, Install CM13 via TWRP
6. DO NOT BOOT UP PHONE JUST YET
7. Perform a Cache and Dalvik wipe
8. Using ‘INSTALL’ option, Install GAPP Zip via TWRP (I used GAPP mini due to space)
9. Now you may reboot the phone.
The solved the ‘Setup not working’ issue for me and my phone is now working like a charm with CM13 and google apps! I have a HTC One M8 FYI
ThankYou So MUCH!
