Help! L29C432 Mate 8 bricked - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I believe I bricked my Mate 8 when I wanted to go back from rooted B320 to stock firmware via offered OTA. After OTA ran through device rebooted and got stucked in black screen. After this I tried flashing everything to get the device back working: dload B320, dload B330, dload B180, rollback method etc. Some of the trimes the dload ran through to 100% but after reboot the Huawei logo appeared and after 2 seconds I get a black screen. When I reinstall TWRP for EMUI 4.1 I it can't mount data and storage. I treid to restore an older backup with no sucess (backup was installed but phone not booting)
What I still can do is:
-enter fastboot mode
-unlock bootloader
-flash files via fastboot
-install and boot into TWRP for 4.1
Is there a step by step guide to get this device back working to stock firmware?
Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Try installing a rollback package that corresponds to your firmware. I tried 2 and failed at 5%. When I put the update.app from b330 on SD card and tried dload method, it worked. Only difference was my screen wasn't going black. I think the problem is the same as I had, Your phone is trying to find the boot.img but can't because what you have is incompatible.
Have a look at somboons post in mate 8 development. SRK tool is pretty good for mate 8 and other Huawei devices. Read the posts. I think rollback packages are your best bet though.

Hi, I managed it now with DC Phoenix. After testing hundreds of combinations phone booted wit method 2 and AL10 Boardsoftware and L29C900B187 Firmware. Upgrade install went wrong with the following output:

OTA with C432 should work, try HI suite via PC...
C900 - dont receive OTA

everything fine now - I managed it with DC Phoenix AL10 Boardsoftware & C432B170 Firmware. Device bootet and I was able to receive OTA updates to B192 and B560.
Now I have to correct the Serial number wit HCU Tool.
Thank you very much for the support.

Help needed for my bricked device

Hi,
I have a mate 8 L29.
I was on "SimplyGoogle" B172 and wanted to go to KangVip B331.
I follow the OP instructions (at least i think...).
"Guide:
Search your bootloader unlock code, you'll need it later!
Download B321 from here (THX to ajsmsg78)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=66719078
Done
Extract update.app to sdcard/dload
Copy it to your PC! Use Huawei update extractor to extract boot, system, cust
Done
Remove your google account from yiur system!! Very important!!
Reboot to recovery
Full wipe including internal sd
Done...But here i think a made a BIG mistake...instead of wiping, i've done a format i think...
Flash the downloaded zip containing the update app.
Done
reboot to bootloader
flash boot cust system
Done
reboot and wait until chinese screen disappears."
Here, i get stuck with the message "Your device is booting now..."
I'm stuck here... I've try SwissKnife with the "unbrick" part...no result...tried to fastboot flash B170 version to get back to normal...No success.
Tried the 3 button with the dload on my sdcard....worked ones but get stuck at 5%. Since then, no access to it...
So now, i've no recovery...i can access to Erecovery, but i get this message "Getting package info failed"...
I can access fastboot too...but nothing else
Can someone help me please ?
Thanks in advance
Frank
I just fastboot flash the recovery for 4.1 and now i can access it... any clue why only this one ?
Now, when i try to flash any rom in twrp, it's stuck at "write radio image" and end with a "Unknown command [errno]"
Any clues ?
If you can help me to make my mate 8 functionnal again, i will be eternally gratefull !

You will need
1) Huawei Update Extractor ( please check the attachment)
2) SRK tools
3) B170 stock firmware.
4) B321 stock firmware (you need to extract files from this ) - check the below steps.
please check this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66776218&postcount=2 . It has everything.
Below are the steps from the above link - for L29 users. Please see below - I marked my comments in red for better understanding.
1. Start from stock B170 firmware with TWRP ready
2. Extract BOOT, CUST, RECOVERY, SYSTEM from B321 UPDATE.APP
3. Add firmware .zip file (which contains META-INF folder and UPDATE.APP) and place it into internal storage [ this is B170 zip just putting it in SDcard file ]
4. Make sure internal storage data is fully backed up
5. Delete All Accounts in Settings
6. Go to Recovery, Wipe Cache, Delvik Cache, Data, System
7. Flash that .zip file! (Getting errors is okay at this time) [This is what I didn't do before!] [ Flash that B170 zip file]
8. Boot straight to bootloader
9. fastboot flash boot, cust, and system [ this step is for flashing the extracted boot cust system from B321 ]
10. let it boot. Let it proceed with encryption process in chinese and fully boot into EMUI
11. NOW I'M AT EMUI 4.1!
12. Reboot to fastboot and fastboot flash insecure_boot and flash TWRP [this step - you can ask them why this is required ]
13. Reboot to recovery (TWRP) and then flash whatever rom you want to place in!
14. Enjoying it!

Hope this works out for you. Don't forget to :good::good::good::good::good::good::good::good:

relocked Honor 8, and now it does not boot

Same as https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/help/honor-8-bricked-please-help-t3656639, but I removed TWRP prior to relocking.
I have an Honor 8 phone, with firmware version FRD-L09C185B360.
Several months ago, I unlocked my Honor 8, installed TWRP, and rooted the device successfully.
Today, for some arguably wrong reason, I decided to relock my phone. So, I restored stock recovery, and issued:
Code:
fastboot oem relock <PIN>
After rebooting, it said something about the data partition being seriously damaged, and presented two options: (1) wipe the data partition, and (2) shutdown. I had no choice but to pick the wipe option, and now the phone does not boot. Here's the exact situation:
Normal boot
Phone enters "Huawei eRecovery" mode, with three choices:
Download latest version and recovery
Reboot
Shutdown
By picking the first option, it connects to my WIFI, and after some struggling, says "Getting package info failed".
Booting while power + volume up is pressed
Device enters "Huawei eRecovery" as above.
Booting while USB is connected, and power + volume down is pressed
Phone enters "FASTBOOT & RESCUE" mode.
It asks to open HiSuite.
HiSuite has an option "System Recovery", which struggles a bit, and then says "Your device is not supported for system recovery"
In this mode, I can issue "fastboot" commands, but not "adb" commands:
Code:
[B]fastboot oem get-bootinfo[/B]
...
(bootloader) unlocked
OKAY [ 0.005s]
finished. total time: 0.006s
Interestingly, it says that bootloader is unlocked, while the device screen shows the status "PHONE Relocked. FRP Lock"
I also tried unlocking the bootloaded again, but to no avail:
Code:
[B]fastboot oem unlock <PIN>[/B]
...
FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.018s
Trying to install TWRP has the same result:
Code:
[B]fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-frd.img[/B]
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'recovery' (22794 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.636s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.666s
Booting while power + volume down + volume up is pressed
It tries to install an update package. When there's no update package, it says:
Code:
Software install failed!
The update package does not exist.
Please download the package again.
I also tried downloading the update package. I tested the following, individually:
FRD-L09C185B360.zip (1.38 GB)
FRD-L09C185B380.zip (1.31 GB)
FRD-L09C185B385.zip (1.30 GB)
For each ZIP file, I performed this process:
Extracted "UPDATE.APP"
Copied UPDATE.APP into "dload" folder of an external SD-Card
Booted the phone using power+up+down combo
In all cases, I encountered the error:
Code:
Software install failed!

Do you have a suggestion on what I should do?
http://www.hihonor.com/de/support/software-list/index.html
Go to the upper link and download the rollback img for your L09 and then dload the UPDATE.APP.
Maybe it boots up and u r lucky. If not...
Then you flash a full size Marshmalow UPDATE.APP.
You have to know that there are smaller Updates only containing the update files and those only can be flashed over current working android installations.
So go with a full sized marshmallow UPDATE.APP for your device..

Thanks for the response. I tried the rollback package. It says:
Code:
Software install failed!
Incompatibility with current version.
Please download the correct update package.
I guess one of the two things:
Current android is Nougat, but the rollback is for Marshmallow.
The "cust"s are incompatible (if I'm using the correct word). Mine is C185 (middle east), but the site you provided gives C432 (Europe).
So, I can download the full Marshmallow image "Honor 8 Firmware (FRD-L09, Android 6.0, EMUI 4.1, C432B131, Germany)" from the website.
But the custs will be incompatible again. Any idea on where to get a C185 image of Marshmallow?

Kudos to both @Rommco05 and @oberfeldwedler! You are geniuses!
Here's some info for others:
Phone model: Huawei Honor 8
Model No: FRD-L09
Firmware: FRD-L09C185B360
I rolled back from the above to the following:
Rollback: HONOR 8 Rollback Package (FRD-L09, from Android 7.0 EMUI 5.0 to Android 6.0 EMUI 4.0, C185B300, MiddleEast&Africa)
Marshmallow Image: HONOR 8 Firmware (FRD-L09, Android6.0, EMUI4.1, C185B130, MiddleEast&Africa)
I would provide a link, but I need more post counts before the forum allows me to post links. Simply search "FRD-L09, Android 6.0, EMUI 4.1" in Google, and follow the first link on Huawei official site.

As Rommco05 explained. Here's a bit longer description:
Download an "official" rollback (official is important, as the phone verifies the image before allowing you to install it).
Extract UPDATE.APP from the rollback ZIP file.
Copy UPDATE.APP on the "dload" folder of an external SD card (create the folder if it does not exist).
Shutdown the phone, and insert the SD card.
Push volume Up+Down+Power for about 10-15 seconds.
The phone starts installing the rollback.
After the rollback is installed, do the same for the full Marshmallow "official" image.
PS: This process is only tested for Huawei Honor 8. Dunno if it works for other phones.

BLN-L24 Bricked/Bootlooped after rollback

I was rooted with TWRP but I want to sell this phone so I was rolling back to stock. I was able update successfully both times (back to B300 and then initial B310 firmware) and after the 2nd update it did an automatic data reset just like the instructions said it would. Now my phone is bootlooped stuck on the honor screen and I need some help getting it back. I read that rolling back will relock your bootloader so I assumed (incorrectly obviously) that it would just return everything to stock.
I now have stock recovery and erecovery works as well. Tomorrow when I get into work I'll be able to get it into fastboot then what do I need to flash to get this thing working again? Thanks in advance
just flash the respective firmware via dload and it will lock both bootlaoder and FRP and should be good to go with full stock.
let me know in case need help, will try as much as can.
Which firmware? I already used the dload method in my attempt to rollback to emui 4.1 since I read that would relock my boot loader. Both parts of the 2 part rollback were successful according to the updater . After the first update my phone boot and I was able to check in settings that I was rolled back to B300 firmware. I then did the dload with the B110 firmware and upon completing sucessfully it automatically reset my phone and went straight to bootloop.
In the following post the person says unroot and relock boot loader first which I did not, does that have anything to do with it?

Nope. Dload woll lock the bootloader. I tried today but seems some issue and we may need to flash the boot.img before proceeding. Tried 3-4 times today but no luck. Will try later now as this is primary phone with all official apps installed

Are you saying I need to flash the boot image? I thought boot, recovery and all the necessary images were contained in the update.app and are flashed on a successful dload update. I do know my boot loader is relocked
Like a fool I forgot my SD card on the bedside table this morning so I won't be able to dload anything but I will be able to ABD/fastboot once I get to work. I.was thinking of extracting the boot.img from the update.app and flashing it via adb

I am not saying this exactly but yeah, after unroot via zip, i got the message on recovery that i may need to flash the boot.img to completely unroot it and then proceed but I never did that.
I used dload main zip content and was success but device went to bootloop. Then later I tried the 2nd file and same. Earlier I used to flash both fine but only 2nd would boot me fine and main zip will lead to bootloop.
yeah, update.app contains all, not sure why its not working and flashing the boot.img directly.
In fastboot phone is locked FRP unlocked. I cannot flash boot.img, says

Tried unlocking the BL? Once that is done, you may proceed further
Unlocked BL and flashed boot.img from B110 update.app and still no boot
edit: last night booting into recovery (vol + and power) gave me three options: Reboot/Wipe Date Reset/Wipe Cache. Since unlocking the bootloader and flashing the boot.img today the same button combo launches eRecovery with Wifi update option but it fails getting package info.
Is it normal for factory reset after lock/relock to go from 15% to 100% and say succesful?
I used the team mt huawei multi tool app and after using the unbrick option it flashed boot, cust, recovery, system and userdata.img and my phone now boots! Shashank thank you for taking the time to respond.

eRecovery stops at 5% - Bricked?

Hi guys,
so i just had my Honor 8 on Android 7 (EMUI 5.0?) rooted and unlocked but wanted to unroot and relock. I used a tutorial for that but i think i made a mistake.
Now I stuck on the honor 8 bootscreen. I can enter fastmode and the recovery but my battery is always low.
I used the rollback package but it didnt install. Also a factory reset from the stock recovery doesnt work.
I also tried a method from here where you flash the cust.img boot.img recovery.img and the system.img from the stock an then flash the Update.app via eRecovery but this also didnt work. It stucks at 5% and does nothing. I am also not able to get to the eRecovery without pluging in the usb into the pc.
Is there any possibility to save my honor? Data's all saved.
I tried it with the rollback package, the B101 and B131 i think.
Thanks,
Musti

What you can do is to try to flash firmware via TWRP.
Follow this guide (use "FRD-L09" link ofc...): https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/guide-honor-8-to-frd-l19-t3632220
And after TWRP flash, you should flash this firmware (L09 link instead of L19 link of the guide) via dload folder method: FRD-L09C432B131
If you need help to find TWRP version, see my post : here
Do the method where you flash cust.img system.img etc but this time you boot into recovery and factory reset, then just boot, i do this everytime

Bootloop and eRecovery fails, dload fails - no way to recover

Hi people,
I need some help here and I hope anybody got an idea to get my FRD-L09 (C432 - on B521 base with OpenKirin's RROS Oreo) to work again somehow.
Situation is: After a failed attempt to upgrade the firmware base to B562 my device is now bootlooping, and goes into eRecovery, after one or two tries to boot, which is then offering to "Download and recovery". That fails at getting package info ("Getting package info failed").
Next I tried to install full OTA-PV package (extracted UPDATE.APP) via dload folder on my SD - that fails at 5 % ("Software install failed!"). For this I took the service ROM from this thread (see post #24 for Oreo version) and version B521 for FRD-L09C432 from firmware finder.
I also tried to get into TWRP 3.2.0 from Huawei Multi-Tool by TeamMT but this suddenly reboots after a few seconds everytime - so this is also useless (I tried several TWRP versions I found - maybe 'bootcomplete=false'?). I hoped to flash the extracted .img files with it.
Flashing the extracted .img files (specially the vendor image, because I think I destroyed it somehow) via fastboot also fails with error "command not allowed". Replacing the eRecovery with TWRP is also not possible (not allowed).
Flashing to system, recovery_ramdisk, kernel etc. via fastboot is possible without any problems - which shows that bootloader and frp are both unlocked.
Info btw: in this few seconds in TWRP I could see that vendor partition cannot be mounted - which shows that it's likely an error on this partition.
Is there any way to flash any "other" (vendor) partition via fastboot? Or do you guys have any ideas to this what I can try - except for bringing this thing to service center for repair :silly:? And please ask, if something is not clear or I forgot to give any info.
Any help is very appreciated.

Okay, I brought it back to life again.
TWRP by Pretoriano80 and zxz0O0 for BKL (Honor view 10) (link) worked and let me flash firmware again. I used HuRU to flash B562 - and now it's booting again.
Soo... what can I do next to mess up my device :silly:
And note for me: HiSuite, eRecovery and 'update via dload' are all useless in case of a problem.

Usually dload did the job well for me. I don't know why it didn't in that case.
But I'm still looking for an easy way to upgrade the firmware base for future use (in case we get some)
Next time just use HiSuite windows version with Firmware Finder's DNS trick to flash any stock ROM version what you need, only works with version 5.0.2.300. I've got the same issue and recoered by this method ease.
You can download it here.
