There doesn't seem to be portrait mode. How do I turn that on?

Well, I wouldn't say that the stock app is "trash". Last year it was one of the best cameras and now it's trash? Probably not
Stock Cam still takes great pics in normal situations. And in low light it's better than the Gcam-port, because there is less noise in the stock app. But when taking portrait or HDR pictures... Damn that google cam is good!
By the way: There are some versions of the port, where HDR+ works even better than it does in the version with portrait mode(I'm on Exynos). I'm using "Gcam...1.3dAllinone". You can google this version or just wait one or two weeks until, there is a version, that can do both great.

the second is clearly better !!

Gcam port is not even better. It's way better than stock Samsung camera apk. Gcam produces more natural pics. Not oversharpened like Sam does. Just try it and judge by yourself. Easy.

I guess it's subjective how you feel about quality.
Attached are both HDR images, one with the latest stable GCam (without portrait mode) and the other taken with the Samsung camera. Both taken without messing around with any settings other than enabling HDR.
The image with the Samsung camera is much bright and less compressed with an ISO of 200, whereas the the GCam image is darker, way more compressed and an ISO of 349.
I noticed the Samsung camera has a faster shutter speed which is interesting considering how bright the image is.
Anyway I'll let you judge the rest for yourselves.

What is the size of those pics? With highest settings i got about 11 MB from Gcam and about 4 MB from Samcam. And try to take photos from same position.

Around 6MB with SamCam and 3MB with GCam.
I have just downloaded the 1.5Beta2 from Arnova so will test this out. Not sure why the image flipped when I uploaded it but they were both same position.
Will post more images after more tests. Probably some outdoor tests.

BTW: HDR is best used in situations, where you have very bright and very dark areas in the same picture. For example taking a photo against the sun. That's where Google's HDR+ really shines. At least in my opinion.

Ok, much better results with GCam this time round. First pic is the GCam result with the following output:
ISO: 50
Shutter speed: 1/454
File size: 2.7MB
SamCam result output:
ISO: 40
Shutter speed: 1/564
File size: 7.8MB
Really interesting to see better colour with GCam. On closer inspection I see that SamCam produces better detail. Might be to do with B-S-G settings maybe.
My GCam B-S-G:
Config HDR+: Nexus 6 Auto
Model: Pixel 2XL
HDR+ Parameters: Default
Let me know if any changes may produce better results.
Otherwise I'm pleasantly surprised. Let me know your thoughts.

Try to use higher setting for hdr+ mode. I got "high" and 100% output jpg file.

I've now switched cams to the one I've linked to in my GDrive. It allows me to use Pixel 2XL as the Model and Nexus 6 Hdr+ Auto as the Config. HDR+ is set to Super High and Final jpg quality is set to 100%
Camera: MGC_5.1.016_7.0+C2API_v.1.3d_AllinOne.apk
Images are higher quality and higher in size with this version.
More photos to come later

Mine results with Galaxy S8 Active T-Mobile
I attached my results using stock and G-Cam. The properties of the pictures are attached too. The G-Cam has an orange basketball mark on the upper right corner.
Both have HDR enabled. I couldn't tell the difference though. ?

App - Camera Super Pixel - Improved resolution

Hi guys,
The camera of my S7 works perfect and the photos are great, but I was just a little bit curious with it having less MP than the S6... So I googled a bit and came across this camera super pixel app in AC and decided to try it. And wow!!! It works! It definitely works! The interface is rather simple and the whole thing is in beta, but holy crap I really took detailed 48 MP photos!!
Have you tried it??
It's most likely a placebo effect. A 12MP sensor cannot takes photos of a higher resolution.

Even I don't think mobile phone cameras can do this: there are cameras that are able to do this!
Cameras with in body stabilization can move the sensor four times one pixel to create a bigger resolution picture.. I think Olympus has a 16 mp camera sensor that's able to create a 40mp pictures. Other cameras use this technology to create pictures with more detail I think Pentax has this.
Send with my Xperia Z3 Compact
Yes but it's not the case with mobile phones.
To achieve more MP there has to be some interpolation, 'invented' pixels. Besides, 12mp is more then enough.
Hi all, I'm one of the developers of the app.
We have been working on this app for 2 years. "Camera Super Pixel" is implementing a super-resolution algorithm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super-resolution_imaging
The camera takes a burst of 8 photos (which are aligned with sub-pixel accuracy) and reconstructs an image with 4X pixels . To work well it needs a static scene.
We are now on beta phase and we hope to improve more the quality & speed of the app.
If you have any question please ask me. Thanks for all the feedback!

Although I understand the hate after the lame stock cam app in my S4, the stock one in S7 is really great.
- Nice and ergonomic UI
- Not too much lame mode, you can hide then, and even add some more for free
- No shutter sounds when phone is muted
- can store in SD card
- can shoot selfie with heart rate sensor
- can register RAW file in pro mode (DNG format)
- HDR in video ! when at or below FHD 30FPS
and so on...
I still like having the nexus app, but mostly for photosphere...
About the super camera app this thread is about ill give it a try, but for me, the 12Mp are already really impressive for a smartphone. the 48Mpx would be no use for me, as if I want better photo, I already have a high end DSLR.

Best Galaxy S8 settings for Modded Google Camera with HDR+

I am sure many of you are using the Modded Google Camera with HDR+ apk from https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-hdr-customization-raw-support/
can you guys share your settings giving the best image quality on your Galaxy S8?
I think this camera produces significantly better pics than the Stock S8 camera app.
Hmm I'd be interested in seeing this too.
I have tried it however found the shots to be quite noisy/pixelated so left it alone.
Which settings do you currently use to get "significantly better pics than the Stock S8 camera app"?
I use Pixel 2XL because it is a nice picture, but a bit less detailed with less noise and smaller file size. Nexus 6P is best for detailed pictures. For HDR+ Perimeters the higher it is, the longer it takes to process. I personally use High. Then also try Pixel 2016 HDR because its good. Pixel 2017 also works but might be slower. I cant really tell the difference between them. Here is a link to all the latest versions with recommended settings. https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
It does, but it pales in comparison to the modded stock camera that you can install with root. It does [email protected], [email protected] and 4k photos in 4:3 (along with a ton more options down the line)

Utilizing the higher megapixels in 1+ 6 camera with pixel camera app

Hey guys, I'm new here, so I'm sorry if this has already been covered.
I have an unrooted international version of the One plus 6, with the pixel camera app side loaded.
I was just tinkering in the camera settings and I noticed that the pixel camera will, by default, only capture images in both 4;3 & 16;9 resolutions, utilizing anywhere from 2.8mp - 12mp on the rear camera.
With that in mind, one could make the assumption that the software isn't utilizing the potential of the hardware. (I'm also curious to know how the second lens is cooperating with it).
Basically, I'm just wondering if there is a way to fully utilize both the 20mp and 16mp sensors within the pixel camera..
Any feedback would be awesome! Also, if I'm being dumb by asking this because I'm not educated in this subject, then please, enlighten me so that I may learn ?
Thank you guys!
I don't think it's possible, for a simple reason : The Pixel 3 only has one sensor, and only 12 MP. So, GCam only uses one sensor, and handles 12 MP
But to be honest, it still produces pictures that are vastly superior to the OOS cam, so, for me at least, not a big deal !
no
Use xtrme's gcam mod! Though the settings say that the limit is 12 MP, my photos thus far have always been saving in 16.3 MP (100% JPEG quality vs 15.9 MP on 95% default) unless you do some zooming (it will be scaled back to 12 MP but still very very usable). AFAIK that variant of GCam was specifically tinkered to work with OP6.

The Xtrme's version is indeed pretty good ! Used it for some time.
I feel like the Advanced 1.4 from Arnova is better though, it even has Focus Tracking, which is the best thing ever
Just checked it, the photos save at 16.3 MP with 100% JPEG quality on 1.4 Advanced too. Note that i'm using the OP6 config that is available for it.
Still don't know if it uses both cameras though. On GCam and OOS Cam, the viewfinder only uses the bottom camera, that seems normal.

First one, in red
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/
You can also get the config file, put it in a folder names "GCAM/Configs" on your storage, and double tap near the shutter in the app to enable it ! (The black part between the shutter and the link to the photos app for example)
These are all great suggestions guys, thank you!
Does the advanced 1.4 and the Xtreme mod allow for shooting in raw formats?
I'm trying to set my phone up to be the best point and shoot it can be, for the sole purpose of stock photography. I know both the pixel camera and the oos camera shoot in raw (oos pro mode is a beast and has outperformed the pixel manual settings consistently but is too cumbersome and doesn't shoot in true 16:9)

Best Camera for RNote 7

I've found a lot of topics but none discuss in fact wich is the best camera app for Redmi Note 7 (Global Version).
I love the camera lens, but the stock camera app not so much... Wich one you thing is the best camera app ever for Redmi Note 7 Pro?
Paid, Ported, Free,...
I'm also very interested in this.
I've never installed a different camera app to a phone before, but the default app doesn't seem very good, and if there's better to be had I want it.
I constantly hear praise for Gcam, but it sounds like there's many different ports of it and no real clear answer on which one works the best.
Bumping this question, and ignoring the fact that the OP is talking about lavender and not violet, but are there any good Camera apps for the RN7P yet?
I've got the China RN7P and i've flashed crDroid onto it, but now that i'm looking into it, i'm having trouble finding a good working cam.
All of the Gcam ports i've tried have failed to recognize the 48MP rear camera, and completely hides the "Gcam settings" option so I can't even re-balance the terrible saturation.
I've also tried crDroid's default camera and Open Camera from the play store, both of which also didn't let the rear camera go above 12MP, and the pictures they took didn't stand up to what even the 12MP Gcams took (minus ruined saturation).
So is there anyway to get Gcam with 48MP and functional settings working on a custom rom, or is there any third party camera app that can recognise the 48MP on a custom rom and get close to Gcam's quality?
and if no to both of those, any idea how long it might take for a working 48MP camera to be working on a custom rom'd RN7P?

Excuse the messy living room pictures, and the fact that they're rotated despite being upright on my pc
but there's no difference at all, even in the properties of the images.
Pretty much same image quality, exact same resolution, and the settings still only says 12MP without an option for 48MP.
The first image is from 'camera' and the second image is from 'portrait' (which for some reason always takes pictures in burst mode).
Also I don't really know what level of quality I should be getting from the RN7P's camera, but I get the feeling they shouldn't be this visibly blurred and noisy.

Back when I was on MIUI 10, the MIUI camera app did recognize the 48MP camera, so it does have it.
Unless I somehow got sent the Indian version instead, in which case, i'd be pretty upset because it also has worse bands for my country too.

I tried both the xtreme and fu24 versions of gcam posted here in the Mi 9 forums, but both of them still only let me go up to 12MP in the settings.
The xtreme version took identical pictures in both 'camera' and 'portrait' mode just like the other gcams I've tried, and the fu24 version refused to even take a picture in 'portrait' mode.

Hey can you try the Gcam 6.1.021 Note7pro
I can't post the download link because I'm a New member sorry. ?
You have to use portrait mode to get full 48MP photos.
Also to get the best possible results increase the saturation to 1.6 in settings and in Gcam settings enable HDR+ for portrait mode and disable Zoom in portrait mode to avoid the crop that Gcam has on it's photos.

Just a thought here because I might be wrong but could gcam only be finding 12mp because of the pixel binning? Essentially, from what I've read and seen the sensor combines 4x 12mp to create the 48mp. I'm running the rn7 myself and see no difference between 12mp and 48mp in pro mode apart from being able to zoom slightly more on the higher mp shot.

Actually, the main camera sensor is a real Sony IMX586 48MP. The reason you don't see any difference between 12MP and 48MP is because both the photos are coming from a same sensor. It's just that the former one is pixel binned to decrease photo size and capture more light.
I believe True 48 MP mode can only be accessed using proper camera libs. Otherwise you can only get the 12 MP Mode

Take a pic in night with both the modes in RN7 PRO with Sony IMX586. You'll see the difference. Not sure about samsung sensor.
Please, what is the best settings for my GCAM for best photography

Question Camera - good enough or need gcam?

Coming from pixel pro 6. Love the camera, hate the size of phone. Know I'm giving up some great features by going smaller but what are you early owners seeing with the camera? Anyone planning on finding a gcam ported to it? Heard someone ported google photos also so magic eraser would work.
Thoughts please why I impatiently wait on my phone to arrive.
Good enough. Definitely better than than my Flip 3
The 3 seemed to lack detail and colour for me.
I've been searching xda for the gphotos port with magic eraser, but nothing is coming up for non pixel devices... Let me know if you know where it is plz!
Samsung now has object eraser, works same, however you could try this: https://www.smartprix.com/bytes/how-to-get-pixel-magic-eraser-on-other-android-phones/

I took some Flip 4 pics today to see how it goes, the color rendering seems ok, decent photos in good light conditions. No overkill, just point & shoot camera - things we were expecting from this phone.
The camera on this phone is definitely no Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro; however, I think that should be a given when upgrading. I installed The Greatest GCam port and was impressed. The issue with the ports that I have found is that they don't mimic the new camera software on the Pixels. The one that was closest did something weird with my camera lens and made everything spherical looking.
Been using pixel since pixel 1, the camera is not as good as pixel's, even compared to a pixel 3 (2018).
The picture took by Samsung is more colorful than pixel, more colorful than real.
And the picture took at night is worse than pixel. Pixel's algorithm (night sight) is absolutely needed.
Is there any working G Cam port? Thank you.
Haven't found a gcam port that doesn't crash yet, but Adobe is working on a camera app that is suppose to have similar AI to Pixel, along with some other great stuff. Don't know when it will be released though
The camera is certainly a step up from last year's device but not quite flagship grade.
It excels in well-lit areas absent of any fast moving objects.
A working GCAM port might convince to me to reconsider it as a daily driver (as I literally have no other qualms with the device).

Haven't found a gcam port that doesn't crash yet, but Adobe is working on a camera app that is suppose to have similar AI to Pixel, along with some other great stuff. Don't know when it will be released though

To clarify: you're saying it also doesn't need a .xml config file?

No config file needed.
Gcam from bigkaka

works, too. (Does not working with a config file)
Tried the BSG camera port. The good news is that everything seems to work. The bad news is that I took a number of test comparison shots with the Samsung camera (both lenses, night mode, portrait mode). The Samsung photos were clearly superior each time. If nothing else, makes me feel good about the camera built into the phone.

Can you take the selfie using the front camera? I tried G Cam from all mods and non of them has a working front camera. You can preview from the front camera, but you can't save the image.
As for the "superior", it's just personal tastes. Many people like the raw and real feeling of the G cam. Samsung's camera is too "vivid", the sky is bluer and the trees are more green, FAKE. And often lost the details because of the color management. G Cam, just captures the real world most of time.

Sorry, I've already deleted G Cam, so I can't test the selfie cam. Didn't think to try it.
Came from S22U, so my experienceis not applicablefor everyone.
For sure, the camera is not like in that phone, especially I'm missing the telephoto one. Night shots are more messy and such.
On the other hand though, it's not that bad at all. Night shots are doing what it supposed to do, day photos are great.
In my mind, I can say that the cameras on Flip 4 gets "Decent +" mark
