Modify Statusbar icons with Root? - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

I remember back on Marshmallow I think with older phones, substratrum with root would automatically patch up the statusbar icons to match whatever theme you are installing. I've noticed now that on Pixel / Galaxy S8 / Pixel2 with root, we can't seem to modify the statusbar icons. There are some substratum add-ons on the store that claim to fix this but it seems they are Samsung - specific addons.
Is the only way to do this with a rooted Pixel 2 is through some Xposed module?

theme development isn't quite there yet on our phones. definitely give it more time until custom roms and stuff make there way out. also xposed just went live so give devs time to update things to 8.1. however @Tulsadiver has made some good mod progress with 8.1. he managed to get a working Aroma installer which can do things like mod status bar icon colors. try that out for now.

but if you want to go beyond that then yes xposed is going to be your best option. have fun.

Change my menu colors

Sorry a bit of a Noob to here so bear with me and looking for some advice. I am good with modding my phone and I have done some searching but I wasn't able to find anything about changing the setting menus, pulldown menu colors. I am just getting so bored with the dark color scheme on my note 3 and want something new. I was in the sprint store the other day looking at the LG G3 and its a cool phone and love the themes that they have on their phone and want to mod mine to look like that. I came across a post for putting xposed on a note 2 but didn't know if it would work on a note 3 and was wondering if anyone tried it or can tell me how to go about changing the menu colors and such..
The link to the one for note 2 is here : galaxy-note2.wonderhowto.com/how-to/customize-app-menu-settings-backgrounds-your-samsung-galaxy-note-2-0147944/
but don't wanna go about it and try it if it won't work for my phone.
if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome!

Unfortunately not, xposed framework is needed. Installing is very easy and troublefree. S5 icons and recent apps is a mod by xperiacle and you will find it in this section.
Still can't get it
I still can't change my menus/settings page or anything to the light color scheme. Wanam Holo Light doesnt work when i pick a color. only certain stuff works. anyone know how i can completely change my phones color scheme from the dark to light?

Cant change icons.

Hey guys, I've recently slashed the Project Dream UX ROM. However I can't change my icons, I can change icons through the theme store but that's it. My device IS rooted. I've downloaded the Grace UX icon Pack and the Galaxy icon themer which I've used before, along with some other icon packs. It says they're applied however I still have the original icons. Also I'm using the S8 TouchWiz home but even without this it doesn't work. I could use an S8 theme however I'd rather use the icon themer and change them individually. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how I can fix this? It worked fine when I used to use MM.
I'm on MM so I'm not sure if it will help, but try changing the display scaling from standard to condensed (assuming Android N still has this option). For some reason this forces icons to update for me, after going months with flashing icon zips not doing anything.

Just tried and it doesn't work. I think it's something to do with Nougat,

Beautiful theme ??
One question, Which telegram version do you recommend?
I've tried 4.8.4 and 4.8.5. failed to apply!
Does the notification pannel is part of the theme or it's just for the color and does it work with Galaxy S8?
Thank you ?

I guess it is for AOSP only..
The notification is a part of theme.
Using oxygen os latest stable version, it applies except for telegram, Google play store and one more Google service. But On a device reboot it automatically does the factory reset. Have tried twice and same behaviour.

Hi
for a newbie like me, we just have to choose this theme & apply it in substratum and it's ok ?
Or there's other thing to do to configure it ?
Thanks a lot.
could someone help to figure out which setting to change to get the round corners ?
Are we talking about display rounded corners (like on the Pixel 2 XL) or just UI elements ?
Thanks !

Im not sure about this, so dont take my word for it. But something tells me that you can change the navigation bar with the System UI Tuner.
Keep me up to date about this matter!
Have a nice day sir,

Get substratum working first.
You'll need one of the many navigation bar themes to change the icons.
As for that animation, you'll need a lot more work (custom ROM, or flashable ,zip at the least)

Substratum is one thing, but how to change the placement of the buttons so they are just like on a Pixel instead of the ugly narrow Huawei-like ones?

I know the nav bar tuners you can add a blank button that takes up space. Straddle the home button with a pair of those and it would probably look better
I had Pixel navbar icons with proper animation done just through substratum on my stock non-rooted S8, so it should be possible to do here too. No need for custom rom or anything
I don't think you can get the home animation (the one with four dots) without a custom rom, but you can try custom navigation bar on play store, it works with and without root

Thanks for ur answers.
I'm planning to root the device once I can clean flash oos beta which will be the setup I plan to use

How to easily modify existing Theme

I reluctantly upgraded to android 10 and the basic Black theme I was using is now showing up with White notifications instead of black.
Is there a quick and simple way to modify an existing theme. I suspect not, but figured I would ask.
You could use,#hex or synergy to make a custom theme.
Alternatively if you wait until tomorrow, Goodlock and its apps are supposed to be OneUI2 compatible (3 Feb) Quickstar is the app that mods quick settings and notifications. Works on non root.
Thanks I've heard of hex installer but never used it. The other 2 I've never heard of. Will any of them allow you to edit an existing app or are you starting from scratch on all 3?
Thanks
I just installed hex installer, was not anything exciting. I was able to change the notification color but my default sms app had undesired affects. Hex installer alone will probably not cut it.
Will look at the other 2.
Im using synergy and substratum lite, with mainly liv dark and a few other themes where liv dosent have an overlay .
My current notifications are set to the overall background and i used an overlay to remove notification separation bar.
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to request to samsung to see if i can get their development tool for theming. Likely won't get far but worth a try
