Clear ATT eSIM - Samsung Gear S3

I recently purchased an ATT gear s3 used. I am unable to get it activated due to the eSIM having been activated on another account. Is there any way to clear out the eSIM? All the Samsung docs say it is possible, but I can't seem to find any of the options to clear it. ATT claims I have to mail this to Samsung and have a new motherboard installed. This doesn't seem right. Does anybody know of a way to clear this? I also reached out to seller on eBay to see if they know of anything. I have gotten a lot of lies from ATT so I have a feeling this is possible and the rep on the phone was wrong saying that these can only ever be activated once.
Article I found showing how it should work, but I can't find any of these options

Old owner must "release" his account first in order for you to get it working thru the NumberSync app.

Correct. You and the previous owner must conference into AT&T so they can I completely release the number from his account, no balance can be left. Then they can connect the eSIM's ICCID number to your account and activate it..that is the only way I have seen it work to date. Check the AT&T forums as many people are upset about how much trouble this is..

[Q] How to activate on Sprint?

I am switching from AT&T to Sprint and I just purchased the Unlocked Nexus 5 on Google Play. What exactly do I have to do in order to activate my phone on the Sprint Network? I am used to just popping my SIM card into the new phone and it works but I know Sprint is a CDMA network and does not use SIM cards.
1. How do I get the phone activated on Sprint
2. Will it run just as good on Sprint as it would on AT&T? It will still work with LTE right?

Sprint does not have a byod line as far as I know unless you are going prepaid. Nobody knows yet if any of the mvnos will activate the nexus 5. You could always get an Iphone or something on your new line and sell it to cover your nexus cost and then some.
For a new line it would be much easier just to buy from sprint for $49.
Coverage/LTE will depend on your area but yes it will work.

According to this page the Unlocked version will work on Sprint:
http://www.ibtimes.com/nexus-5-release-date-unlocked-model-will-run-sprint-network-1452872
I probably will get an iPhone or something just to sell it since I will be able to get a new phone on contract pricing but I still need to know how to actually activate my Nexus when I get it. I was thinking about getting the $50 Nexus through Sprint but I am afraid if I do that I it will not be the exact same model. I don't want any Sprint bloatware on my phone and I don't want to get updates later than the rest. I also want to make sure the phone I get is heavily supported by developers. There is just too many unknowns on the Sprint model that I am scared to get it.
So anyway, do I just call Sprint to activate my device?

There is no 'sprint' model they are the same device. So to activate you will need to get a sim card from sprint and then you can either chat, call, use the online activation or go to the store to get set up.

To get a SIM, either go into the Sprint store. Or go online to the chat (you'll need an existing Sprint acct for this).
To activate, just call the big S and give them the info that they ask for
There's a thread going about this already that has some good info:

Sorry but just to be clear, Sprint will sell an unlocked phone? Has that ever been done before? Do you have a source? Not to discredit you but it seems that I should just buy it from Sprint instead of Google Play if there is no real differences. I just want to be sure.

I don't have a source atm, but that's all I've heard around the forums. You need to start a 2 year contract to get the phone at their low price though ($50 I think?). They're selling an off-contract one for $400 too. Same device all around.

This is the first time they have ever done it. This also means that the phone will be updated directly by google, with no carrier approvals/delays- which is also unprecedented for CDMA.
I myself am very surprised more people are not talking about this.
I stopped at a Sprint store today and asked about activating a phone bought from Google directly and they said it couldn't be done? Is that the case? I have about 5 months remaining on my contract with Sprint before I go on to another carrier.

Tried chat last night, and then calling in today but getting the run around. Was told I had to go corporate repair store; called store and was told that they don't normally stock SIM cards and that they won't have a N5 compatible one for a while until there shipment of phones comes in. I have sero account but this is the first time it has been an issue getting service.

Blacklisted Question!!

I purchased a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note5 from someone who isn't longer reachable on Craigslist, unfortunately they got one over on me, it's blacklisted however I contacted T-Mobile & it was due to non payment but there still isn't anything they can do nor I can do.
To my question, is there anything I can do to fix the issue so I can use it.
I currently have metro pcs, if I were to get it unlocked would it then work?
Help me please!
Thanks in advance,
Joanna

If you were to use it on a non-tmobile network (att, straight talk on att, etc) yes. Just none that use tmo network.
I don't know why T-Mobile doesn't do it, but when I has Verizon and the same thing happened to me, they have me an option to pay the balance due on the device and use it. I didn't, they wanted way to much money. But the option was there.

Unfortunately the information that was provided to you was to the best of my knowledge incorrect. Due to the fact that T-mobile owns Metro PCS it would not be usable even if you unlocked the device. All of the GSM carriers in the U.S share blacklists now and a device cannot be unlocked and taken over to another carrier. I have had this happen to me previously before. A word of advice for all future craigslist transactions call customer care and ask if there is a remaining EIP or Lease balance on the device you are looking to purchase. The individual you are purchasing the device from will have to verify their account and get the information for you but this is the quickest and easiest way to avoid a scam.
If the phone is good and working without a confirmed balance make sure before you leave you make a phone call or two to register the device to your account to somewhat avoid a loss/theft claim as well. If you want to go a step further in ensuring that the device you just bought stays non-listed as lost or stolen complete the IMEI change during the same conversation as the balance inquiry and make sure the representative notates your account that the phone has been purchased from said individual. If they somehow manage to make a claim after that all they will have to do is look at the notes and they will see that both accounts were verified during the process and 9/10 times unlock the device again.
This has happened to me more times than I would like to admit and those are some of the things i have dont to really cover myself in the case of a scam.
I wish you the best of luck with future purchases and sorry for what happened!!

[Guide] Gear S3 Frontier (765A) Carrier Unlock

Ok, so after a lot of trial and error, I've figured out how to successfully unlock the device. Up front, I have been unsuccessful at getting another carrier to pick up the watch, as they don't really understand eSIM configuration yet...but Verizon is working on it.
The CODE is the same as it was for unlocking the old SGS3.
1. Purchase the watch out of contract from your carrier.
2. For AT&T, follow the normal online unlock procedure. Wait your 48 hours and get the unlock code from the carrier.
3. Go to About Device
4. Scroll to Software Version
5. Tap the screen 5 times, and a keypad will appear
6. Type #7465625*638*#
7. A screen will appear that says "Personalisation. Enter NCK"
8. Enter the unlock code that AT&T gave you. Hit OK.
9. It will begin a blue rotating clockwise circle around the screen. Wait for about a minute until it shows "Notify SUCCESS!!!"
10. Profit!
As I stated I haven't added this to another carrier yet. Verizon is trying, H2O Wireless Indian customer service gave up when I told them I couldn't take the watch apart to access the SIM, and I haven't tried Straight Talk or Cricket yet, but I'll post back when I do.
In the meantime it is worth noting that I was able to add the watch to a separate AT&T prepaid 3GB plan for $43. More expensive than I want right now...but better than not having the 4G! Their customer service will tell you that it doesn't qualify for any prepaid plan, but their prepaid department can create one so don't let them yank you around.
Hope this helps some people! Freedom!

Also after unlocking how did you added another sim profile ?

As I stated I have not yet added the phone to a new carrier yet. I also can't vouch for whether or not this will function on a 765T, as I don't have one to test on. I would venture to say if yours doesn't do anything...it probably doesn't work. Though you may be able to enter your unlock code after the second asterisk, followed by another one, then #...that may work but who knows.

I called ATT and told them I wanted to add a prepaid line. They transferred me to the prepaid section and I picked a plan. The post paid sales people will say there's not compatible plan...But there is. You just have to get transferred over.
Thanks again. I was curious as I live in Argentina and local carriers don't manage (in theory) eSim.
I have been researching and noticed that activation in some countries is through a QR Code and through the Gear App, but I checked my Gear App but the activation tab is not there. Also in the watch settings there is also an added tab within the Reset Gear that lets you reset the carrier which also is not showing.
Thanks for your contribution.

I've seen the same things online but it appears that the carrier has different firmware that doesn't have that...same with the Gear phone app.

All you need is your IMEI and your SIM (ICC ID) number. You give them those, select the prepaid plan you want, and they'll send you a series of text messages for activation. Once you've done the unlock process (which isn't even necessary if you're going AT&T prepaid), you call the prepaid department for AT&T. It's no more difficult than activating any other device.

Check Simlock status
Meanwhile I wonder if my device is really unlocked. I got my S3 LTE from South Korea with a SK telecom branding. The seller told me, that it is unlocked but at least I am not really sure. How can I verify this?
Sk Telecom
Any way to verify if a Sk telecom model is really unlocked?
Got mine unlocked by going to imei-unlocker.com It was $19.65 USD and they responded within 2x days or less. Went through the guide in this thread and it did say Success! No way to 100% verify at this time, but I'm hopeful if I do end up switching carriers that I will be in fact unlocked.

Just curious but if you can't change the sim yourself, what good does it do to unlock the watch?
Swordfish
I don't know, lol. But AT&T swore up and down they couldn't do it and don't listen to things you read on forums. So for lack of a better excuse, I did it because they said no. But more information may come out later about how to switch.

Transferring eSIMs

I bought a used Gear S3 LTE for AT&T but when I tried to connect it to the AT&T network I was told it's still tied to another account, despite it not being active. They confirmed it was not stolen, no money is owed on it, and it's not active on anyone's account. But I had 3 reps tell me that because it has an eSIM, in order to transfer it to another account the original owner has to reactivate it on their account and transfer billing responsibility to the new owner. When I pressed them about it they said there was nothing they could do for privacy and legal reasons. So once the eSIM has been assigned to an account it stays there until that account owner assigns it to someone else.
I understand that eSIMs are different and the old model with phones involved just swapping out sim cards when the owner changed, but I find it difficult to believe there's no way to transfer a device once the original owner is out of the picture. Has anyone else bought a used device? Is it necessary for the original owner to do anything else beyond removing the device from their account?
The good news is the seller (not the original owner) offered a partial refund on the watch because we couldn't connect it to LTE. But at this point I'm more curious about how these eSIMs work than anything else. Almost nobody at AT&T seemed to know how to deal with them. The rep at the store even tried taking the back off until I stopped him.

Thanks for the post. This looks like exactly what I need except it's for Singtel in Singapore The AT&T watch I have doesn't have any setting relating to SIM profiles (I checked both the watch and the Gear android app), which I guess means that it's locked to a single profile for now. But it's nice to see the functionality I want to be available *somewhere*. It gives hope that an American network may implement it eventually.

Pixel 3 bought from Verizon. No access to eSim?

On my Pixel 3 I cannot activate Project Fi. I assume it would automatically use eSim or give me the option to? However it does not. It has asks me to install a Sim.
I installed eSim switcher and have the option to add a carrier but I still cannot get it to work, just says cannot be activated try again later.
I would kind to know if there is a way to tell if my eSim has been disabled?
The Verizon models need to be activated on VZW for 24 hours before they become available to use on another carrier.
Nope, eSim is disabled.
When I was ready to order mine, I chatted at Google and I was told any pixel 3 bought from any of the sources (Google, Fi, best buy, Verizon) would be physically the same and would all allow for future Fi through esim. It took a bit of back and forth to explain that I didn't want to use it or activate it or start a fi account right away, but it should work the same.

Ughh.. I escalated this as far as I could within Verizon and from the person that handles the Verizon + Google relationship, eSim has been disabled on the Pixel 3 with no plans to enable it.
Would it be worth returning the Verizon one and buying an unlocked one?

You are correct, you are going to need to either return it or use a Verizon sim and Fi Esim, although I'm not sure that will work at this point. That really sucks though. The reason it's eSim locked is that with it enabled you could take the device to any carrier immediately. They don't like that since you probably bought it on a deal like bogo or a payment plan over 24 months. If you bought it on a Verizon plan then they also want the early termination fee. There is a new revision of eSim that can lock the phone but it's on hold while the DOJ investigates. Personally, do yourself a favor and return it ASAP and perhaps take the hit on the return fee. You might be able to negotiate it down due to the eSim lock.
FYI, the Pixel 2 are eSim unlocked as well as the Apple Watch Series 3 but that's it for now. Let's see what happens when the gorilla comes into the game. Should be an interesting fight and I'm not sure Verizon can stand up to Apple for long.
I returned the device and ordered one from Google. Lesson learned, gave up my free stand and paying restocking fee lol
Glad I seen this thread, just canceled my Pixel 3 from Verizon and offered mine through Google. (Back Ordered)

Also, I switched to a T-Mobile SIM, and I don't see an easy way to open the eSIM Manager app. Not sure if this is normal or not - i.e. it seems to have GUI according to the store page but the "Open" link does not appear for me, nor is it in the apps list. Also no mention of eSIM in Mobile Settings. I guess maybe my OS build is a Verizon version?

I don't believe it has anything to with a Verizon version of the software, especially considering there is no such thing. There is only on version that we all use.
TMobile app isn't ready yet. They are saying by the end of the year. There is a Reddit thread on how to do it now if you want.

That's a great thread, very informative. I heard that on Dec 7th the iPhone XR and XS were to be Verizon eSim active but I've not confirmed that yet. They are fighting tooth and nail to keep the tech out of people's hands, even dropping secondary sims down to 2G. But Apple will put the hammer down and then it will roll out to us lowly Pixel people eventually.

Nice thread, but there are accounts of Verizon disabling eSIM: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/a4ispi/tmobile_us_esim_is_working_on_pixel_3xl/. The question is how?
I heard that Pixel 3 boxes from Google have ESIM ID printed. However, mine from Verizon has SIM ID, which matches the physical SIM card inside the phone. I actually don't know how to find the EID.
My Pixel 3 box that was purchased from direct from Google does have an ESIM ID number printed on the box.

Yeah I saw that but I don't believe it. They just haven't activated it yet I doubt they have purposely disabled it. It's live now for the iPhone but not yet for the Pixel 3. I might give them a call to find out when it will be activated but I don't have much hope in getting a csr that even knows what I'm talking about.
edit: nothing doing. They don't know when we'll have support on the 3s. I do wonder if someone took a vzw P3 / XL and could get the eSim activated on ATT or Fi.
Has anyone tried scanning the QR code generated on verizon's site? I generated the QR code on my Verizon account, but decided against scanning it for now... I'm traveling this week and can't afford to be down a phone. I didn't want it to disable my physical SIM and not active the eSIM, and somehow get stuck in limbo.
