Hello! I currently own a Galaxy S6 (SM-G920I) that runs Android 7.0, I've had this phone for almost 3 years or so, and I think it's finally time to root it, I have rooted my S4 before but I wanted to up things up a notch and install a custom ROM for my phone, so I was wondering which ROM is the best one to flash and which rooting method do I use, if there is like a safe one or so?
Sorry for the very "noob" question, thank you so much in advance! <3
Hi, flash TWRP through Odon. Choose a samstock rom and flash it over TWRP. Root it via odin.
Ps: best post any new questions to q&a forum.
*Mod edit : thread moved to Q&A section.

I rooted mine though it will take some digging beneath browser history
I'm inheriting my fiancée's T-mo S6 soon, and this comment is just a bookmark to come back here. :]
Thanks.
Hi, I would be needing the same as AstroPenguin.. Root and ROM

Hi, been reading here for ages, but n00b videos and such have stopped me joining, but now I feel confident enough to move up to a custom ROM with instructions I'm able to follow.
I have a Galaxy S currently running JVQ Europe, although I'm in Australia.
I'd like to use MilkyS MOD but have a question or two first.
Will this go on JVQ?
Lagfix: Am I right in assuming that if I haven't added this, it's not there?
You talk of two versions, Odin and CWN, would one be easier for me than the other?
Please be patient with an old man. I did manage to root this phone when I upgraded 2.2 with 2.3.4 JVP, then JVQ, and I managed to get them on OK, I also changed the region code to Europe ..... but that's the extent of my "knowledge".
As far as I know, although I rooted JVP, I haven't rooted JVQ, so my phone isn't rooted, does this mod root, or need rooting first?
Thanks, Billy
if you post in the galaxy s forum, im sure you will get an answer
I am brand new to Android. I just bought a Galaxy Note Tablet 10.1 but it's the GT-N8010 model. I would prefer to have the US version GT-N8013 because it seems that there are a few apps / functions are not available in N8010 model.
I've seen several threads about flashing for phones but not for the Note Tablet 10.1. And I can't find anything about how to actually get started from the very beginning. I've always had Apple products so even the terms flashing and rooting are new to me. I need bare bones basic instructions on how to root my note tablet. I bought the ODIN app and it won't let me use it until I rooted and that I needed to be a superuser? I'm so confused... /:
Can someone please help me? What apps do I need and what's the actual process? I appreciate any help anyone could give me.
Thanks!

I used this thread that's sticked in the note Q&A to root my tablet. I actually did it yesterday after getting the german jb 4.1.2. I wanted to use the multiwindow app, so I had to root. I am new to this as well, but that thread got me through the process flawlessly. =) I used the pc version of Odin to do mine though.

Sweet! Thanks. I'm now rooted! On to the next step!
Hi, sorry for posting a thread that's likely already been answered, I tried looking through the forums and I'm lost. I used to be really into the custom ROM scene and whatnot back in the galaxy S2, but haven't really been at it in a while.
So I bought my fancy new S6 Edge G295W8, and I'm looking at how I can go about safely rooting it. I checked CF-root but I didn't see my model number, it seems like samsung's adding in more and more model variations every generation. I'm also on a carrier that isn't mentioned specifically under the S6 forums, so that adds to the confusion. So what's a good and safe root to use? I'm still familiar with odin and flashing as pda and whatnot, so I won't need a tutorial on that, just a good starting point at a thread with a root that'll work for me.
And another minor question, any good ROM recommendations? How's the cyanogenmod support for my model? Are there any good clean roms with the edge features still intact?
Thanks in advance for your help, much appreciated.
bump?
First of all, let me apologize for posting this in android general first since i am new here. I later realized that posting it in samsung galaxy s6 forum will be a much wiser choice.
Hi Everyone,
I accidentally deleted pictures from my samsung galaxy s6 phone and am looking into rooting the phone to recover them (havent used the phone since then). But most of the applications out there require rooting. I have looked into pingpong root and Chainfire but they dont list the exact build version of my phone.
EXACT build version of my galaxy s6:
MMB29K.G920IDVU3EPH9
WHAT'S available online:
the closest i found is from chainfire (CF-auto root) is MMB29K.G920IDVU3EPC6.
Please advise if i can use the root file meant for the build available with chainfire or if anyone has rooted their galaxy s6 for my exact build then please advise on that.

I am not quite sure, since I am also relatively new to the phone, but CF autoroot should work fine. The problem I see however is that AFAIK the phone will be wiped after rooting, so I dont know, if rooting will be of any help to you. You should try to find out, if there is any way to get a system dump. More precisely your sdcard. This way you can have as many recovery attempts as you want, without risking to overwrite anything. Hope it helps. Also rooting itself and installing SU will overwrite some of your storage. So be careful.

is this because the build is different?

Like I said, I don't know, since I don't kmow much about the phone yet, but I thought I had read about CF autoroot wiping the phone after rooting, but please check on your own. Google system dump galaxy s6. Maybe system dump android 6.0.1. I haven't done it in a while, but it should work using adb pull. Maybe there is a new command already. But please read up on it first.
