Its a beautiful FULL HD tablet. But the amazon fire skin is sooooo bad. Cant even run gmail, instagram and many many apps. I have seen many good Android custo. Rom developers here who create grest custom rom . But i am surprisedd nobody yet made any ROM for this device. I would request to all the great developers to make one because the default skin/rom is laggy and uncomfortable. I search severa users are in search of it as they are facing same issues.
I hope somone will create beautiful ROm for this device soon too.

Roms can't be made as bootloader is not unlocked as far as I know... In the meantime, just run Nova Launcher and even better, get rooted and get rid of the Fire OS for good by freezing it with Titanium Backup...

Not strictly true. With a locked bootloader you can't make ROMs based on Marshmallow and above, but it is possible for Lollipop; there are such ROMs available for the Fire 7 (2015) model. If and when a developer is inclined to produced a ROM for the HD 10 (2017) then one will become available. Maybe someone is working on this? Root has only been available for a few weeks and these things take time.
I have Nova Prime on one of my rooted Fire 7 (2015) tablets. It does make the tablet feel more 'androidy'. It is also nice as I have a Google searchbar at the top (with voice search) and Alexa accessible from the home button.
Freezing apps etc. with Titanium Backup will not change the fact that the tablet is running Fire OS, only a ROM will enable that.
I'm perfectly aware that freezing apps will not make the Fire OS go away. But he talked about the "skin", which can be "masked" when using another launcher like Nova and freezing the Fire Launcher.

Your meaning was not clear in your previous post. If I misunderstood, that was why.

I haven't touched a Samsung device since the galaxy s1 i9000 and have stuck to nexus phones since that time.
I thought I would give Samsung another blast this year and see if they have redeemed their selves over the years in regards to the amount of animation stutter and input lag since they claimed to have streamlined TW and have started using their own processors to make everything work in harmony etc.
The phone itself is really really great and I quite like it but I again am still getting animation stutter all over the place.
Scrolling in play store is horrible. The simple tasks of pressing between the tabs in the dialer is the worst out of them all them and really has terrible animation and most apps stutter like mad where my old nexus 5 was nice and smooth which I can only blame TW for. Even the keyboard goes nuts if you try to look through the emojis. There's no excuse for this in this day and age with what this phone is packing.
Is it just my device or is anyone else getting a lot of stutter etc on their device?
Is their anything that can be done to solve the issue other than swap the phone

5.1 kinda made this issue a lot worse! I set animation in dev option to 0.5x and it helps a little!
You can try a custom ROM. You often get a much better performance with it. Or try to root and uninstall bloatware. Hope this helps.

Any links to guides on this. I used Odin back in the day a lot to flash custom ROMs but that's going back a long time.
Cheers

1. Use the first link if you want to keep your warranty safe.
2 A nice, clean, fast ROM you can use (it's the one i'm currently using) also, I would like to give back-to-n0t3 a shot soon.
Note 5 user here. Same issues on this device It's really disappointing Scrolling lag is so much higher than on my OPO.
I have no lag at all on mine running 5.1.1 - I'm usually pretty sensitive to it!

Please don't withhold all information. First link's method only works on S6 variants G92XF/T. It does not work on other variants and if attempted will cause a soft brick. For other variants of S6 on 5.1.1 there is no way to root or install custom kernels without tripping Knox.
On the subject of lag, proper usage of the phone and knowing how to free up RAM can reduce lag on your phone. Examples include clearing recent activities, using Smart Manager to "clean up" background activities and rebooting the phone every few days. With root you can use more efficient methods like Titanium Backup to freeze apps and Greenify to kill background processes. Don't just sit there complaining about lag this and lag that, go and read up on how to free up RAM on your phone and reduce lag on it.
I've had my Shield Tablet for some time now, but since I received my Recall replacement (LTE Model) I finally re-realized that this is in fact a fantastic little tablet. I haven't used my shield in about 4-5 months and I stopped using it because of the wifi issues and Horribly slow kit kat stock roms (as in, my tablet's IO was such a pain). But now that my recall replacement has the latest 5.1.1 and great wifi range, I again realize that this is still an impressive Gaming tablet (Emulators mostly).
So my question/request is this: I have added TWRP,and rooted the device but I can't seem to get Viper4Android to work (might be a BusyBox issue) even with SELinux set to permissive and I hate the AT&T/Phone app Bloat. So where are the Debloated Modded Stock ROMs?
I see the CM 12 based roms, but those are having issue with nvidia app (console mod) which I use. I'm just looking for a Debloated Stock 5.1.1 rom, rooted, with ViperAudio installed, and possible other mods (kernals, etc.)
I am in no way unappreciative of what we currently have, I know devs spend a lot of time on their roms :good:, but seeing that the Shield Tablet is still one of the most powerful tablet of the market, I figured there would be more choices (Spoiled with Nexus phones).
Maybe this already exists,if so please point me to it. If not I'll do what I can on my own for now, but I wanted to ask and see if others fell the same way.
Either way, sorry for the rant.
Thx everyone
I just rooted my tab and completely debloated it. Find that pure and clean stock runs best for games but with all the not needed google apps removed in system, its about 600~700 mb of bloat. And if you still need some of the G-apps you can easily download them from the Play Store!

What did you use to debloat? Did you freeze/disable or actually uninstall bloated app? Also have you got Viper Audio to work?
Thx

Hi, so I ditched my old P905-V a while back because of the locked bootloader and inability to root. Found a great deal on the P900 tpdau and decided to give the Note Pro another go. However, since I haven't used Android since the 5.1.x days, can anyone give me the rundown on whether Nougat ROMs are worth installing? I never did see MM in action, and I'm thinking the latest Android might be the best bet. However, I'm seeing a ton out there about SafetyNet ... should I just assume stock is acceptable so I can download more apps from the Play Store, or does it really even matter? I mostly want to use productivity apps and the drawing features of the Note with Sketchbook Pro (without paying the price tag of the Tab S3 and still dealing with bloat). Basically, I'm now torn between getting the latest greatest ROM, or installing it only to find I've tripped Knox and can't install the apps I want. My current ROM of choice would be the latest Resurrection Remix since that was developed recently and doesn't have volume level issues. However, if that prevents me from installing Google apps or Microsoft Office suite, I might care more.
Thoughts, anyone?

I used Lineage N for about 2 weeks. It was smooth. I went back to stock because the tablet would get massively hot and sometimes reboot when playing graphic intensive games. Aside from the heat while gaming, it was great. I'd still be running it, but the main purpose of my 900 is gaming.
Give it a shot, share your results.

Hi I just purchased a P900, waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Does everything else work on the Lineage N build you are talking about? I plan on using mine for GPS mostly, monitoring apps, not gaming. So that rom may work great for me.

I'm actually back on it now. The latest build is great. I think my heat issues have been toned down with less aggressive settings for the CPU and GPU. GPS is working, I just tested it with Google maps. I'm not having any issues this time.

Thanks for the response.
I suppose I could do ask this question in the Q&A area but how do I do a full backup?
For example: I thought backing everything up in recovery was enough but apparently for my Z2 there is something called a TA Backup? Is this the same for the Galaxy Note Pro? I can't find any threads on doing a backup. Are there any other backups I have to do?
Edit:
Figured it out. Turns out for samsung it is called EFS Partition. So make sure you back that up along with your nandroid.
Back in the old days I bought the Eee Transformer TF101 and after years of loyal service it got a second life at a the house of my sister. Last week it has returned home however because the games my niece wants to play can't be installed on ICS anymore. I am planning on using it as a dedicated unit for my Chromecast, so that I don't have to search the whole house for my regular tablet when I want to watch Netflix.
Now the question: what would be the most usefull thing to do for this in terms of ROM. At the moment it is completely stock ICS (4.0.3), no root or anything. I can cast from youtube and Netflix, but for instance Chrome cannot be installed because it is too old. I have seen a 6.0.1-ROM, but I also see a lot of problems with force-closes and sometimes other issues as well, so i don't know if it is worth the hassle to install this.
Any suggestions? What would you do in this situation? Just leave it stock and disable as much as possible (like Gmail-sync, and updates of various system-apps), or would you root the device and possible flash a completely new ROM?
Only posting to follow this thread as I am in a very similar boat, I loved this device and recently rediscovered it at my parents house in pristine condition - so I want to re-purpose it. I have rooted it and installed a few custom roms but they are all sluggish and riddled with problems. I am looking for whatever rom is fastest, stable and new enough to install most basic apps (Chrome, Gmail, Netflix, etc...).
Hi Cabrone,
I'm still on stock, hoping for someone to share his/her personal view on this. Not being able to install a (slowly, but always increasing) number of apps is my biggest concern with this. At the moment this boils down to Chrome, but I can imagine that at a certain point in time Youtube or Netflix will no longer be updatable, and that would be a shame as long it is possible with alternative roms.
Best rom i ve found is Katkiss Marshmallow for now. They are also in builds for a Nougat version, but is too risky, from my point of view. Runs very well, its like it has a new life. The rom is quite optimized, i could get more into details, if you want.
Just FYI, Showbox will play great on the stock rom Tf101. I tested before updating my rom to Tim's 5.1. Chrome won't install, but Firefox will on stock. I'm wondering if anyone has tried stripping apps to improve performance?
Furthermore, is ROMing still a thing? I used to stay up late installing Nexus Roms and Paranoid Android and stuff like that.
Well, I was in the same boat as you. Coming from US Snapdragon Samsung's that cannot be unlocked easily.
My Pixel 6a is rooted and running MKVs kernel, AOSP Mods, LSPosed, Xprivacy. The answer is really up to preference.
Until recently Safetynet was something that can be passed, now although Google Wallet works, one of my banking apps does not allow me to login so I have to use their website.
Also ~monthly OTAs will need to be manually flashed on a computer (PixelFlasher seems to be most convenient for this).
Look up the above apps and see their features and decide if it's for you.
The theming and customizations with AOSP Mods has kept me in (holding the power button shortcut for flashlight while the screen is off and status bar tweaks have made it hard to let up for me!).
Rooting is a must for MVK kernel alone. Phone runs better and cooler (uv). Aside from that I disabled the navbar pill, which was driving me insane on stock. Also AdAway module and ACC to limit charge to 85%.
I personally won't bother with a custom ROM because the phone isn't EOL, and runs stock. If this has Oxygen or another skin I'd change.
I root to use Titanium Backup. Google cloud backup is decent enough but not all user settings get saved and I hate reconfiguring apps

Wait, TiBu still works? I thought that was long dead and gone.
I'm in the same boat as y'all. I've been out of the game since my Nexus 5x, so I'm very behind.
Quick question, hopefully you can steer me in the right direction. I'm coming from a OnePlus, and I loved Oxygen OS. I absolutely hate the pixel QS layout - is it possible to get the look of my OnePlus on my 6a if I rooted it?
The last phone I rooted was N6P and I had always rooted my phone for the customization, mostly kernel, but stopped since Pixel 3a (my last phone) since I didn't have the time and energy to deal with all the huddles (I want GPay and all my bank and need the security features) and the battery was good enough.
I don't plan to root 6a.
I started down the rooting rabbit hole with a Galaxy exhibit 4g. That phone was one that required many apps to be installed in the (minimal) ROM. I rooted so i could store apps on the SD card. I rooted a bunch of phones, but got away from it when kit kat came out, as things were getting complicated and memory wasn't really an issue, anymore. I really liked some of the roms i used were very nice. The last rooted phone i had was a Nexus 5, which is still my spare and I'll prolly take with me to India, this fall. I still use the Boötes ringtone i got in a gapps pack. Lately, I've been happy with stock using Nova launcher. I'm not a power user, though.

Lol this is exactly the reason I was considering rooting, to get rid of the navbar. What in the actual hell is the point of the pill especially, but the buttons as well, other than causing burn-in. Simply moronic.

I use Nova launcher, which allows me to use nav bar or gestures. I use the nav bar, but i have it disappear when i don't need it. Prevents any kind of burn in.
No intention for 'rooting', especially because I simply don't have the energy for all that anymore. I bought a Pixel with the intention of being able to unlock bootloader and install a more privacy oriented version than stock. Initially was intending to use it with GSI (generic system image) until LineageOS become available, but then learned about GrapheneOS and went with that. Very happy with the result.
I was a 'noob-rooter' back when I bought my first un-lockable phone, the Moto G5 Plus with A7/8. Great lil phone to this day even! Then made a mistake after buying a G7 cuz that was when google started this dual partition (slot) crap which killed TWRP more the most part. Bein' the noob I was, I had assumed no twrp meant no root...smh So after A10 + 6 mo., I said I'd spring for a Pixel and their unlock/root-friendly rep. Got a 4a and found out there is 'life after twrp' lol
My main reason for rooting AND kernel-ing is muuch better battery life by better control of apps, the OS and most google (aka GMS). App are mainly magisk mods and apps like Swift Backup, Naptime for taming gms and TONS doze settings in gen., Battery Guru, AOSP Mods (awesome), Nova Launcher and 3C toolbox for nerding out...lol

No face unlock
Face Unlock works with root. If latest A13 you need to download the latest version from post 20 https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/11-universalauth-face-unlock-for-all-roms.4419343/
