Go for it! You'll not regret it.
People like to be i-know-it-all... everyone knows better than everyone... how things should be done, how things should and shouldn't work and make a lot of noise about silly things.
Find a phone that no one complains about, any phone, any price, and proove me wrong!

Go for 64GB especially if You ever need (or might need) to use dual SIM.
Minimizes (maybe even eliminates?) need of extra sd-card.

Go for it and take 64gb version. It might sound like too much, but some of the data is taken by system etc, so you don't really have full 64gb for your usage. Photos and 4K videos will eat storage, install some GPS app with full Europe/US map and you have no free space with 32gb version in a blink of an eye.
Linked thread is nothing to worry about, just an exaggeration of the existing situation and unfulfilled expectations and dreams.

i know what you mean.....

Does A1 have an official 32gb version? Afaik it only has 64gb, unlike Mi 5x which has both

Here we have it.

Kolina K100+ Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of5vgp2XS6Q
Tell us some more details about it.
Does it really have NFC?
Does it has CE Label somewhere (Phone or Package)?
Available space left?
Which bluetooth version is there really? 3 or4?
What is inside the package?
Notification LED?
Backlit on Softkeys ?
Do you have other phones with FHD Screen to compare?
I'm interested in this phone.
Can it be upgraded to Android Lollipop? (by any means necessary?)
As far as I read the very few reviews and details of this phone available in the net the only problem I see with it is that it has a very old version of Android installed.
If it can be updated to the latest android version (In my unprofessional opinion I think the phone specs can well handle it) then it would be perfect for simple users like me.
Does anyone have steps on how to update the operating system on this phone?
I really think it has some decent hardware specs and good price.
If it gets updated to a more recent android version it would be nice.
All specs are fantastic.
The most important thing for me is if it will get update to KK (Lollipop is out of the question) and if GPS is locking satellites fast, cause most chinese phones have problem with that matter.
Unbox/Comparison
Found this review on youtube, posted by a reviewer by the username 'mayiandjay'.
Jay unboxes the Kolina 100+, however still waiting on his actual review, but I've been interested in getting this phone too. A few things to be aware of that he mentions is that some these specs may be faked, (i.e. front camera megapixels).

You don't buy a phone only because it's cheap.
Having old OS or don't knowing if there will be support for custom recovery and Rom is a deal breaker.

I just need instructions on how I can install stock Kitkat or lollipop on this phone.
Because out of all the specs, the display brightness and operating system version is the only thing I see that may turn me off from purchasing.

I found a site which offers the k100+ offers a pre-install of some "rom" (etotalk mod rom???)
I have no idea what it is... but doesn't this mean it's possible to install stock android kitkat(or lollipop on this thing? )

Ok found the product page from Etotalk.
Don't pay attention to them.
Since there is still no official 4.4 version out, there is no way that Etotalk can offer a better Rom.
I only hope that soon there will be the official release.

What I was hoping for is that since etotalk seems to have a way of installing their own rom, shouldn't someone be able to install stock android on the device? (or does that how it works?)
It looks like the brightness on the Kolina K100 (170$) is not so great. Therefore I'm doubting between this one and Cubot X9 (140$)
or perhaps I will wait for the Dakele 3 (270$)

Can anyone verify it really has all those 3G bands? If it does, this phone is amazing for the price.
Yes. All those 3 G plus 4 G. I've got confirmation that mine as been shipped yesterday, but as it comes from China it will take 15 days more or less to arrive.

Thanks. I ordered one today. DHL is supposed to get it to me in 2-7 days. I hope it's closer to 2. :fingers-crossed: I want to take it on my 10 day bike ride as a replacement for both my older MTK based phone (with a terrible GPS pickup) and my tablet. One device will simplify things.
I have used it on UMTS, GPRS, 3G, HSDPA and 4G all works perfectly fine, best speed I got in a semi-rural area in Australia 4G was 22mbs down and 12mb upload. The phone has been great so far.
Cheers

There in a different league price wise I would say as you can get the ZTE for around $199, but if you require NFC and Infrared then maybe it's worth it?
You can buy a infrared insert for the ZTE which has a custom app for it on the phone already.

For the average user considering price and specks? Definitely ZTE, even if you are an experienced user, infrared and NFC wont pay the price difference between these phones I guess.
But then again my opinion may be a bit suspicious as I´m still waiting for mine and could lead me to induce you...

ZTE V5 Max and Huawei Honor 6, huge price difference. Both are pretty wonderful. But in order to be more cost-effective. I will go with ZTE V5 Max

My phone has arrived! Even though the order was to be cancelled, it was sent anyway and arrived just today.
My first impression is that this phone is huge! I'm upgrading from a 4 inch screen, and this is so much bigger. In hindsight, I think 5 inches would be sufficient. But this big screen is very nice to use, especially for someone like me with larger hands.
I'm slightly confused by the desktop's lack of an app drawer. I've never used a launcher without it. I think I'll just install Apex launcher, as I'm most used to using that one.
Since I purchased from Etotalk, I went ahead and paid from their "Etotalk mod rom" which took care of root and Google Play Store. However, when I first connected to Wifi, I immediately was notified of a system update. So if I install the update, I'm guessing I'll lose root and Play Store.
Frenchie90, if you see this post, and if you have installed the latest sytem update, can you confirm that your instructions for rooting and installing Play Store are still usable? Anything I should consider/be careful about?
Thanks.

I did go ahead and install the update. It went so fast that I didn't see what it changed. However, I still have root and Play Store, so all seems well.
Three annoying things.
The two dots that represent the menu and back buttons do not light up at all. If I'm on any darker conditions at all, I can't see where to tap.
Also even though I have chosen to have a pattern for my lock screen, it still makes me first swipe up from the bottom of the screen first each time I turn on the phone. Any lockscreen system should bypass that up swipe, and not require the user to do both.
Finally, the boot screen with all the collage of pictures is simply overkill. I'd like some way to avoid those altogether. Maybe there is a way to simplify the whole boot screen process.
i have a question , ZTE V5 is V5 max?
No. V5 is other processor. This one is a x64 processor from Qualcom.

Can any one that already have this phone confirm that the latest update from Nubia is multi language? Thanks in advance.
Enviado do meu GT99 através de Tapatalk
I have seen that there is a new update in the last couple of days. I have not installed it, because I am on a trip, and if anything goes wrong with my phone, I'm not sure I can solve it.
There are two warnings from ZTE on the update instructions page. One is to do a backup. The other seems to warn that root should be disabled. That I can't do at the moment.
So if anyone else who has root is able to apply this latest update, please let us know how it goes.
Thanks.
ok , i see,,,, thanks
I'm also very interested in any possible problems with root. And whether or not the rom is multilanguage (or at least has English).
Apart from the OTA ROM there are also these (removes extra spaces if you wanna go there): www . muzisoft . com/zte/v5max/
But that page is all in Chinese, and I don't speak it.
I would be more willing to poke around and try these roms myself, if I had some surefire way of backing up my current rom and restoring it. I currently have a Chinese CWM recovery, which means I can't find my way around it... Any tips would be appreciated.

Probably true, I was also confused. In end of March I was reading news regarding the 6GB vs. 8GB variants, and the Chinese websites keep saying the 8GB variant was specifically ceramics. I think in the end all variants are ceramic, but it added to the confusion. Is anyone with a 6GB variant able to confirm this?
Are you using the Global version? I've seen some reviews (with the Chinese version) and it seems video recording sound is pretty bad, also for in-call audio. Could you confirm?
Also, I think it comes with a case, right? How is it? Does the camera still stick out with the case?

Thanks. Unfortunately for monetized videos the selection of music is very limited due to copyright problems. Almost all classical music is copyrighted, so I did a quick search on copyright free background beats and took the first one.
Next time I may simply speak instead of having music. But English is not my native language, and I hate my voice =)
Thanks for the feedback

I appreciate your sentiment, but there may be misunderstanding here. All classical music (not neo or modern but old school) is public domain and not copyrighted, because classical music has been created more than 70 years ago. Certain performances by certain artists may be copyrighted, but the vast majority of classical music is completely free to use. Moreover, and this is a guess but I think a good guess, automatic algorithms by Youtube couldn't distinguish between royalty free and copyrighted classical music.

Thanks. I meant the performances of course which are under copyright. I do sampling and beat production in my free time and had to hire a sample Clearance service for the songs i sold.
Moreover i cater to a very homogeneous target audience which isn't really into classic music. Currently a lot of tech channels are using "casey neistat type beats". That's exactly what i did in my video. Sorry if it didn't fit your taste, next time I simply usey voice instead of music. Haha

My Mix2S was 6GB /128GB, it's white ceramic. It looks like yours, there's silver aluminium frame as well.
I'd got mine from MBK too.
Well, I'm sure I overpaid as well, but I went cheap. 6gb of ram and 64 of storage. Which is enough for me. In black.
720ish CAD from gearbest. Global version.
I can confirm that at least with my carrier Koodo (same as Telus) I get LTE and LTE+ (although it shows accurately as 4G and 4G+)
It's nice, but I wish the face recognition and Google assistant were working properly.

Well, global version just means that it supports most of the existing bands around the world, but the other variants do still support quite a few. Perhaps what you have is not a global version, but it still supports the bands that you need. Why did you say that yours was global, was it advertised as global?
I'm not an expert on Google Assistant but I have played with it quite a bit on previous phones and on my current Pixel XL. I may be able to help, if luck has it, to troubleshoot your particular problem. What are you trying to do and what isn't working, precisely?

It WAS advertised as global version. It comes with the global rom, with Google play and all that.
Maybe it is some other version that they flashed with the global rom, is there a way to check?
For the assistant. While it's sitting on a table, screen off. I say OK Google, and nothing happens. It's supposed to light up and let me talk to the assistant.
My LG G6 does it fine.
Also, I can't find the settings for face unlock.

I honestly don't know if there's an easy way to check aside from trying the phone with a carrier that is supported on global but not on others. Perhaps through some logcat info or maybe there's an app, I don't know. Maybe another user could answer.

The phone definitely should have hardware to use lower power microphone to listen to voice commands with screen off. That is a standard feature of the 845 chipset. It may be disabled, though I doubt it. Are you sure you set it up correctly? I had a whole helluva time setting up a brand new Galaxy S9 today, but trying to do the opposite of what you want - no voice recognition with screen off, but voice recognition with screen on. The settings were buried by Google, and it took a few minutes to find them.
UPDATE: BTW, there must have been a very recent Google Assistant update recently, because things are now behaving differently from what I remember. You might want to try to experiment setting up the assistant and turning it off several times over to get the proper behavior - I just tried to set up my Pixel XL assistant 30 seconds ago and I couldn't. Gonna play with it myself.
As for face recognition, it's like this:
Settings/Security & Location/Smart Lock/Trusted Face. In your firmware, "Security & Location" may be "Security and Lock screen" or something similar.
Update 2: I can no longer set up Google Assistant with this new software the way it used to work with old software . Even though I did it today on the S9.
I am baffled... maybe bugs?
Here's what you need to do though for your goal.
Settings/Google/Search/Voice/Voice Match --- enable "Access with Voice Match," enable "Unlock with Voice Match." You should be set.
Yeah, I'll play with the assistant some more. I am aware of how to set it up, but I'll play a bit with it.
I literally don't have that option for face unlock. If I remember correctly, that's the Google version. I thought xiaomi had their own version built in, maybe something they left out of the global rom?

The global rom is not yet available on the Xiaomi website, so we cannot say whether it's bugs and missing features yet. The fact that you don't have the "Trusted Face" option in Google settings or the Xiaomi variant of this feature makes me think that you have an incomplete rom that will probably be updated to rectify these issues in the future.

First update from Vivo

Hello Nex-Fans,
Vivo has announced the first OS update for our device which improves the overall, the game, camera and fingerprintscanner performance.
Source:
Gizchina
Thanks! I suppose we will get that automatically (when checked in update settings), but thanks anyway for notifying it here.
Despiter updates(there's even newer update than those at first page) the underscreen display scanner remain problematic according to fresh reviews from android authority.
https://www.androidauthority.com/vivo-nex-review-875140/
Hopping retail unit perfom better.
Saw many reviews and tests on YouTube and nobody has mentioned such problems with the Fingerprintscanner. I think this will be a "Pre-Release-Device" problem.

Damn that's a really scathing review especially re. the software and OS. Makes me kind of disinterested tbh, because the UX sounds like a ****ing hassle
I'm not so negative ... In my opinion it's a very early stage of the device and i think some points are related to the Pre-Release-Device he has. On the software side i think it's only a question of time until there are some other options.
I have a Zuk Z2 Pro and know what i'm talking about. The ZUI interface was only crap but now it's running AOSP Android 8.1 and i'm really really happy with the device. It's better then my S8 was.
Yes but the kicker is as always, does the bootloader get unlocked... I don't know about Vivo and their practices on this.
I actually received my second update on my Nex already... and while the fingerprint reader can be finicky it has worked well (one thing that helped was adding both thumbs 2times)

I got the update a day or two ago as well.....
Any idea (translation) of what it actually encompassed?
only thing i have noticed a improvement on is the Fingerprint reader(seems much more consistent) , the camera seems to focus better and give slightly better results. Also the three bars at the bottom of the home screen are at the absolute bottom now and much wider.

THX!....
After you posted this,I decided to take a look in the Settings > System Update & found the update notes in English (probably translated to whatever default language you choose) & pretty much line-up with your observations/usage:
The notes may have been available in the previous updates, but,I didn't notice the little arrow to click on to read the notes (probably there all along)......

haha yeah the arrow has been there to check the changelog but the improvements they claim are actually noticable to me at least ?
FunTouch OS is the only thing that's keeping me from buying this phone... Any thoughts on the overall phone functionality from people that have it? I currently own a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 and love it except for the selfie camera being on the bottom of my screen. My main thing would be to be able to get the Play Store and use Bluetooth with my car audio system... Any thoughts appreciated ?

I might be having one serious BLONDE MOMENT  ,but,I can't seem to find how to make the YouTube app play by default, from links in email/texts/etc.....
Again,it could just be me,the settings on this phone are convoluted, makes Huawei & Xiaomi look clean & simple by comparison.......
So,in the meantime,I'm using this default picker app to help out:

Installing the micro g file from above link doesn’t work??
I used 0.2.4-105 version from above link and always works great.
You can try both of them providing.

I go back and forth seemingly daily. I lust for the hardware, it is to me the next step on the path to OLED in-display cameras, but that bizarre Android iOS clone nonsense they have going on is pushing me away. Funtouch sounds like a waking nightmare.
I currently have a Mi Mix 2, and already the rumor mill is in full swing re. the Mix 3. Google Mi Mix 3 and check out some early leaks, they are rumored to follow the Nex style. Admitted MIUI is not all that great either, but at least Xiaomi is a bit more dev friendly on releasing the kernels etc. And sorry for the hijack

Question POCO X5 5G

Maybe i should
I want one too, just seems like no one has been interested in developing after the Poco x3 pro was dropped, being to do with the SoCs being used or something. I don't want to be forced to use garbage miui :'( or whatever the Poco reskin is called.

so there will be no custom roms for x5?
Would help if Xda opened a sub forum for the non pro model.
Yeah. I know this device just launched 5 weeks ago, but if I'd suspected the X5 5G would get so little love here at XDA, I might've gotten the X4 Pro instead...
I'm actually looking into compiling my own TWRP recovery for it, and an AOSP ROM when I've learned enough about custom ROM development.
Is there any way to request XDA consider opening a forum for a particular phone?

Well I guess you could PM one of the admins/mods, but final decision would be up to their goodwill (or lack thereof), evidently.
It would make a lot of sense to create a dedicated forum though, as the X5 is powered by the Snapdragon695 and not a 7xx series as the X5 Pro is, which *probably* means that ROMs for the latter wouldn't be flashable on the former -not without incurring risks anyway...

Can't the Poco X4 Pro and Poco X5 5G use the same ROMs as both have same CPU, GPU, chipset, architecture, flops etc?

There's usually a firmware, boot and vendor img difference which does make it incompatible, in most cases, and would need some tweaking to make it work right. But you're welcome to give it a test run, learn from experience. There are times with OEMs are lazy and it does actually work.

even for custom ROMs? Incase the X5 does't gain popularity (which seems to be the way it's going), I was wondering if we could use custom ROMs for X4 pro in the future.

Yep. It's uncommon to be able to use a different device's ROM even when the specs are similar. Unless you're using a gsi. It takes a while before custom roms start appearing after a phones release. Debloat and use as is would be my recommendation till then, if you already bought the phone. The Pro version is also likely to be more popular, among the enthusiast community, from what I can see.
So there's likely to be some trickle down effect of roms from the Pro versions to the non-pro

Which is ironic, because the X5p does not have any kind of possibility of storage expansion by SDcard (while the vanilla X5 does provide a shared SIM/SD slot), making even the 256Gb version utterly useless for my use cases...

To be fair, it's been a while since I've seen anything that has the 7 series chipsets to have a hybrid or dedicated SD slot. Just how the market playing field is, once you enter the mid-high range. Not great for the customer but that's capitalism for ya.
The Poco X5 5G may not be as popular as the Pro, but it's actually a very smooth phone if you don't play demanding games. Just received Android 13 update last night. My biggest gripe is the MIUI, which I don't like. After installing Nova7, the user interface is a lot more familiar and better.

For daily use, it is quite smooth, the camera performance is trash though. GCam fixes most of it but the videos are still grainy. The X5 might be catching on now as it has received a big discount on an e-commerce platform recently. Nova or Lawnchair makes the experience pleasing but you miss out the gesture navigation which is a bummer.
Hello!
Is it possible to turn off the images of the camera settings in the Portrait mode of the Poco X5 5G/Poco X5 Pro 5G?
If possible, then it would be possible to shoot video in video bokeh mode.
My phone turned itself off today. Has anyone had this issue before?

Seconded !
I've used the Microsoft Launcher for a long while before I bought the X5 5G a week after its global launchdate, but in the long run on MIUI 13 it turned out to be just too goddamn much of a battery hog...
So upon reading a comment from another member here that he was very satisfied with Nova I decided to give it a try, and felt so at ease with it that barely 20mins passed before I bought the Premium version. xD
But I do sorely miss the MS launcher's leftmost pane tho (the one where you can take quick notes and display your Outlook calendar, which is what I used it most for). :/

Yup. I traced it down to a dirty fingerprint sensor : some oil or grease traces would make it wrongly detect a long press or multiple short presses and trigger a shutdown.
A good, energetic cleaning with a rubbing alcohol-imbibed tissue then a thorough drying fixed it right up!
Any new news on custom roms? I want to get the phone on sale but I dread using MIUI
