Oreo PIP in Mi A1! - Xiaomi Mi A1 Guides, News, & Discussion

I tested Android Oreo's pip and it works for some apps. And since many are saying that it doesn't work, I'll add some screenshots to show that its working. It worked for me with VLC, Video Calling(whatsapp, Duo), Chrome & web Youtube.
For Youtube you need to click on "desktop site" in chrome then play any video in full screen after that press home screen, it'll work.
For VLC, open any video in full screen, click options and select Pip icon and press home screen. As for video calling, it works with Whatsapp video call and Duo.

Also, for PIP to work with the YouTube app, you need to have a YouTube Red subscription.

Not all apps support PiP. To check which app supports PiP go Settings > Apps & notifications > Advanced > Special App Access > Picture in Picture

Because you probably don't have Youtube Red.

Look for IYTBP YouTube app on XDA. There are rootless versions. Install them so you can use it with PiP without YouTube Red.

YouTube High Quality by default

I had an HTC Aria before my Captivate, and noticed a difference in the YouTube app. On my Aria there was a setting to enable High Quality mode by default. Every movie I watched was in HQ mode. On the Captivate I cannot find that option. I have to start the movie, pause the movie, and press Menu > More > View in HQ. At least in the Aria version there was a toggle for HQ/LQ in the seek bar to the right.
Does anyone know if there is an option I am missing, or a way to install a version that would have this option?
i would check out this thread:

i took the youtube app from that one and it works great

[FIX] Workaround for Pixelated Official Youtube

Hi.
Maybe it is knowing workaround for pixelated YouTube videos from official Google's app (on custom's 4.3+, on 4.2 videos looks OK I think), but anyway I wanna post here this.
Oh, and I don't know if newest updates of YT are still not working on KitKat Roms, this trick was tested today only on 4.3...
You only need:
• Xposed Installer (instructions how to install too) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-installer-versions-changelog-t2714053
• App Settings (Per App DPI) module, download from Xposed/Download and Enable it from Xposed/Modules.
In this module search for YouTube app and configure it like on attached screenshot (save yours changes by clicking on "disk" icon and reboot phone).
This configuration lets you choose 720p mode in YouTube settings, choose it.
Look at the attached screenshots to see a difference between 360p and 720p mode.
PS. This settings will stay after updating YT. If you flashing ROM another time, you must install Xposed framework once more (why? because X framework is installed on /system partition, not /data).
I've Got this same settings but i still don't have 720p. Could You help me?

Crop to fit video in other apps than YouTube

Is there a mod or way to get other apps playing video content to 'fill the screen' ... i.e. crop to fit.
Not make app full screen from multitasking or allow apps full screen settings ... I mean like YouTube has a floating crop button to fill the display with the content? ?

Works fine with kodi
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
On both Amazon prime video and Netflix there's an option to fill the screen. Not exactly the same and sometimes you have to press it a few times but it does work.
Also in display settings you can choose which apps to make full screen. I toggled them all.

Picture in Picture only works on YouTube if you have a YouTube Red subscription. There was a bypass though. Try to open Google Chrome and then access YouTube from there. Try If PiP works.

i Trued it with chrome, but still is not working
No, you're not working. The way PiP mode works for Chrome goes like this: You go fullscreen on a video, then press the multitasking button, not the home button, and the video should automatically transform to a window while the app shows up on your multitasking screen. The same applies for YouTube(provided you have YouTube Red), and Google Maps(you have to be navigating to somewhere then press the multitasking button).

Picture in picture for YouTube

Hi...all my OP6 running on OSS 9.0.2, yesterday I was able to do picture in picture for YouTube by simply using the home gesture swipe up but today it is not working. I checked settings and PIP for YouTube is allowed... What is wrong.. please advise.

The Magisk module [Magisk]Youtube Vanced [Official] by KevinX8 works well for PIP.
Use youtube vanaced even it is for non rooted user but you need to install microg for sign in I am using that it working great with PIP and off screen mode
