US Unlocked HTC U11 using T-Mobile video calls - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Has anyone successfully used T-Mobile video calling on an US versioned Unlocked u11?
I recently purchased an HTC u11 life as a gift (T-mobile branded) and noticed it had a video icon embedded into the phone dialer for other T-Mobile users. However my U11 unlocked does not have that dialer. Although VoLTE is checked and available, I also searched in the test menu (#4636) and noticed that Video Calling is grayed out and wont toggle over. Is there a T-Mobile software apk that anyone knows of that would embed the function into the dialer? Would I have to S-Off to be able to provision Video calling? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It's being worked on. Not as easy as adding a apk though.

Thanks, is there a way to toggle Video Calling provisions on, will I have to S-off to do that?

Accessing Verizon HTC 8x windows backend

I have a problem that I need to know if anyone has an answer for.... I have a Verizon HTC Windows 8x that is unlocked and running on T mobile. I purchased this phone thinking it was fully functional on craigslist. I found out that once you unlock this verizon version phone, it removes the apn mms settings (Cannot send or receive picture messaging), your reception will on go to E or G and not 3G or $G, and you cannot access the internet share options.
I am looking for a way to access the back end and turn these features back on in this phone????
Malcolm
Thank you in advance...

hello
there is no such thing as a backend on this mobile platform
most of this stuff is controlled by the registry
the only limitations known for this device are related to the evdo services on it, impact directly on internet sharing, sms sending
as far for 3G / H+ it should work but it will never activate LTE on standard UMTS Services
also please check for workaround regarding sms and the other "painpoints"
regards

[Q] How can I change the default carrier settings for an HTC Snap?

Short story: I'd like to be able to activate US Cellular and Telus branded Snaps on Verizon or Sprint. Assume for the purposes of this question that the ESN on these devices can be activated on Verizon's network. What steps must be taken for the phone to be recognized on the Verizon network such that data will work?
What I can do/have already tried: Activated US Cellular and other carrier's HTC Snap (SMT6175) devices on both Verizon and Sprint's networks via both OTA and manual programming of the MDN, etc. The device works fine for voice and text, but data does not work. I've changed the CID of the device using a Riffbox, I've manually changed HDR AN and PPP user IDs and passwords, I've put HSPL on the SMT6175 and installed the stock WM6.5 Verizon ROM. The phones activate using OTAP, but don't get the correct UID and passwords in the PPP fields for some reason.
If I do a hard reset after making modifications, the phones go back to thinking they are US Cellular phones, based on the pre-populated settings in the PPP and other fields.
I need to figure out what it is that makes the phones know they should revert back to US Cellular or whatever the original carrier was, and hopefully make permanent changes so that I can get the phones to work just like a real Verizon HTC Ozone (xv6175) that could be activated normally via OTAP, and have voice, text, and data working.
Any ideas or suggestions? Please reply or send PM! Thanks!

VZW WIFI Calling on unlocked Note 20 ultra 5G

Found out the guy lied. So the US unlocked N20U does work with VZW wifi calling.
It definitely does work with my N20U on Verizon.
The only differences between the Unlocked and VZW version are:
1. Native Verizon video calling doesn't work on unlocked, but the integrated Duo video calling is better anyways.
2. Verizon's model doesn't have the Samsung "Smart Call" feature for Caller ID. Instead, it uses Verizon's app.
3. Verizon's version has the Verizon bootscreen and a ton of bloatware, especially games, news apps, and what not. Fortunately, most can be uninstalled, and the rest can be disabled using ADB.

I can confirm all of the above. I have an unlocked phone, on U1 firmware, with a Verizon SIM. Wifi calling works. There is no "Advanced Calling" menu in Connection Settings, but there's a toggle for VoLTE and it was switched on by default. No 4G icon, but rather a LTE+ icon is shown in status bar. The only thing I haven't found a workaround for is the native video calling. I cannot initiate it (phone app does not show the option when I'm on a call with another Verizon phone) and if another Verizon phone attempts to initiate a native video call, it tells them that I cannot accept video calls. I checked my VZW account settings on a PC, and despite the video call option being on and not blocked, native calling doesn't work, as described above. Duo works fine for video. I was able to get Visual Voicemail by installing the app that I go from another thread. I installed it before checking to see if the U1 firmware added it by default, so I can't say for sure that it wasn't there already.

So I had an interesting observation. I flashed my Verizon Note 10+ to U1 firmware and noticed a drastic reduction in data speeds. After getting the Note 20 Ultra, I noticed the data speeds were nearly doubled. I then disabled a ton of Verizon and Samsung apps, and my data speeds dropped drastically as well. Through the process of elimination, I found that the "My Verizon Services" app seems to have a major impact on data speeds. As long as I keep that enabled on the Verizon firmware, data speeds are blazing fast.
Is it possible that Verizon uses apps to prioritize or de-prioritize data speeds? I'd be curious if one could do a side by side of the Unlocked vs Verizon firmware.

Thanks for sharing your observations regarding wifi calling. How can one tell it is working? I am used to older phones advising that wifi calling was in use via text in the phone app. I'm not seeing this notification on my new unlocked T-Mobile-branded N20U with Verizon SIM.
I also noticed the VoLTE toggle in the phone app, switched on and greyed-out, can't be deselected. Of course they don't want to support anything but VoIP anymore. What is the behavior, if the cell signal is decent it won't use wifi? It can't be forced to prefer wifi, can it? I used the trick of putting it in airplane mode, then turn on wifi to try and force it to wifi call. It said it couldn't make the call in airplane mode, which is not encouraging regarding wifi calling being functional on this phone/provider combo.

From what I've found, if you put another carrier's SIM in a truly unlocked carrier branded phone, it should prompt you to apply your carrier settings upon boot. For example when I put a Spectrum SIM in a Verizon phone, it "converted" the CSC (Carrier settings and boot logo) to Spectrum.
My recommendation is to attempt to get the SIM to switch the CSC automatically. If not, use the patched ODIN to flash the Unlocked U1 firmware, and optionally you can flash Verizon from there if Verizon's Video Calling is a must.

Thanks for the detailed response. I was a little concerned about the T-Mobile branding, and what that truly meant at the software level. I installed the Verizon SIM to this factory-reset phone. If it was going to switch CSC I think it would have happened then. It went through the usual setup steps, but still displays T-Mobile screen at boot. I'm not sure what else I would do to "get the SIM to switch the CSC automatically".
Would you agree with my conclusion that wifi calling isn't working based on the outgoing call failure when in airplane mode with wifi on?
If there is better, more-unlocked firmware I'm not opposed to flashing it. It's been a while since I've played with rooting and custom ROMS, but I'm guessing stock firmware is a lower-risk activity on an expensive phone.
I'll refer to this link to try and flash to unlocked U1 firmware, hopefully that will allow wifi calling compatibility:

Oneplus 7 Pro T-Mobile (GM1915) on verizon, is VoWIFI possible?

Hello,
I recently purchased a T-Mobile unlocked Oneplus 7 pro (GM1915, 8GB ram/256GB storage) on eBay to use on Verizon, and I can't seem to get wifi calling to work. We went through the setup with Verizon, and let them know it was a CDMA-less device, and everything works perfectly besides wifi calling. I do not have the option to turn on wifi calling in the settings of the phone or the log kit. When I dial *#*#4636#*#* in the phone app to get to the phone info, the VoLTE provisioned slider is enabled and able to be turned on and off, but the Video Calling, Wifi Calling, and EAB/Presence Provisioned sliders are all greyed out and disabled. I called Verizon to check on their end if it could be enabled, and he said it was enabled on my account, but it still wasn't working on my phone. He put in a ticket to verify the E911 address, but after reading a lot of threads on forcing VoWIFI on other models, I just wanted to see if it was even possible, as I saw next to no threads on my specific model of 7 pro. If anyone has any guidance for me on this issue, I would really appreciate some help.
Thank you!
Won't work. The phone is not a Verizon phone and will be refused access to the vowifi server. Only the pixel ever functioned. Sms over WiFi will work with the Verizon messages app or Google messages and rcs. You best option is Google voice for vowifi.
Welcome to Verizon where unlocked 5g phones don't work on 5g either.
Fully possable

No Wifi Calling Toggle in call settings, Anyone know how to enable it ?

I have the european variant LM-V500EM of LG V50 which I was under the impression had a wifi calling / vowifi option. I've used the quickshortcut maker app and can see the option is there in the backend of the settings com.android.settings.Settings$Wifi CallingSettingsActivity. I can even open it and toggle it to on but it doesn't appear to do anything and still won't show in the regular call settings.
I've spoken to a number of UK networks who say it should work and spoken to LG directly who say wifi calling is unavailable for this variant/model and only the EE variant has WIFI calling. It's pretty frustrating that a function which the phone clearly is capable of is unusable.
Has anyone got any workarounds for this as I'm tearing my hair out here and don't want to have to sell the phone as apart from this it's great.
Thanks
I've been in engineering mode *#546368#*500# and SVC Menu / VoWIFI / W-Fi Toggle to ON but wifi calling still doesn't appear in the main settings.
Can this be enabled OTA by the right network carrier eg. EE , 3 etc ?
I've got the same phone, same problem.

What is EE variant? I never seen it before and I can't find it in net.
I know only those variants:
