Hey all,
I'm currently on 7.1.2, stock with Chainfire's SU. Everything works perfectly aside from the random double text. I was wondering if I should update to Android O. Is the update worth it? And if the answer is yes, should I switch to magisk su?

Yes and yes. No issues with either.
I do suggest to read the OP for Magisk. There are some differences between Magisk and SuperSU.
However, it's up to you.

Neat. I may do that tonight. One more question, I know the pixel is a bit funky with it's A\B setup. Would I be able to downgrade if for some bizarre reason I don't like O?

Just flash/install the factory image you want.
You can downgrade? I updated to the first version of O to come out and didn't like it (buggy). I had to wait for the bug fix cause downgrade didn't work for me....

If you are unlocked you can. But dropping down from 8.x to 7.x will require a data wipe.

Hi everyone,
I know I am going to sound very annoying but I have googled various threads for hours and I still have not come close to an answer, so please be easy on me. I am a total noob!
So basically, Long story short, I bought this Moto G 2015 (4th Gen - Xt1072 the 5inch screen one) earlier this year, and it has been very slow ever since! So now, I am getting notifications that I cant update to 5.1!
The issue is, my phone is rooted, and I would like it to remain rooted! So, I am assuming i will not be able to install the update file.
The real question I have is, how do I go about this? How do i update to 5.1 (22.46.12.en.GB) without losing my root? I am happy with backing it all up on Titanium, and then updating but I don't know how to do it. Do I have to download the new android on my laptop and then re-install it or something? All this technical talk is literally racking my brain!
I know the solution is probably simple so I would really appreciate if someone can give me a simple answer!
Thanks so much

U can flash cm12.1 or can update your device then just root it back.
I doubt its a fourth gen, when the latest is 3rd.
Why can't you unroot, update, then reroot?

And how do I unroot? and where do I find the update film.
I promise you, I don't know if its cos im dumb or what, but I have been researching this all day! I don't know what to do!
You can follow this link for a tool to restore back to stock firmware. This will wipe your phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...dows-tool-moto-g-2015-xt1072-restore-t3124915
Then update after that and root again.
I don't know much about removing root, I would look up how you did it then search for removing it. What did you use? Supersu?

Oh ok, thanks buddy. Yes I used SuperSU. But if I follow the guide, I'm assuming it will remove the root anyway? Right?

Yes, it will reflash your phone to how it was when out the factory. Then update, then install supersu same as you did before.
Cm12.1 is pre rooted rom and stock rom i think u know what it is.

Yeah, I meant in what way is the CM12.1 different to androids own rom. Is it better? Does it have more features etc?
Thanks

I've only used supersu like one time. When you open supersu from the app drawer, is there an option to remove root?

Try it out. If not, you haven't lost anything cause u can just reinstall supersu if not

Prepare your devices fellas , 7.1.1 is about to roll out cause there's an article on bgr said so
I personally wanna wait 'til Xposed is compatible for nougat.
http://www.bgr.in/news/motorola-moto-x-style-android-nougat-7-1-1-update-starts-rolling-out/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/nougat-update-started-rolling-t3526308
I don't see how a benchmark entry suddenly means official Nougat is rolling out anyway.
Yeah, that headline is hyperbole. It's a good indicator that it's getting closer. Not that it is about to our is rolling out.
Oh look, another Nougat roll out thread with the same image as all of the others.

Your Phone will give the message that there is an update to new software. But as soon you will try to install it, it will fail.
OTA can't be installed on custom recovery, you need te be on stock rom, stock recovery and unrooted.
There are a few posts on the general section to go back to scratch, or just wait till a developer makes an stock based rom on 7.1.

Do you mean FlashFire? flashfire warns you that Motorola devices are Experimental.
Isn't it risky to from 6 to 7 with flashfire? And sure you may not have Xposed Framework installed.

Flashfire is of course what I meant, Doh on my part!! Never had any issues with it working with my Moto X Style. I would imagine that Motorola have factored in that the majority of their users will still be running an out of date version of Android and that it will go from 6 to 7 with little if any issues. I'll be giving it a try from a custom 7.1.1 rom first before wiping my device and trying it that way, once (if!) it comes out of course.
Closed - more hapless misinformation
I have never had a problem out of 5.1.5 but now that Android pie is out I would like to update. Can I jump from 5.1.5 straight to Android Pie or do I need to update to the newest firmware of Oreo first?
I would like to note that my bootloader is unlocked, I am running TWRP 3.2.1 and magisk is installed. I do not wish to lose data during the update process.
Nobody? Awesome guess I'll eventually figure it out

You may have luck like a family member of mine and be happy.
Or you may not have luck.
A fullwipe on 10 is recommended.

No problem for me,delayed touch was fixed
Delayed touch is still there on the .618 atleast for me.
Interested too, any obvious reason to go to 10?
I'm quite happy with 52.0.A.11.3

Yes
The existenz thread contains the needed firmware version
And exactly this need to get flashed
.672 has no working twrp atm
but the previous firmware has
So if existence may want the .672, then you may need to wait for the next twrp update
anyone have firmware xz2dual H8266 52.1.A.0.618 ftf zip or tar.gz
Hello!
Just got my 7P from the Black Friday sale (I'm in Europe so a friend who was flying in got it for me).
Still haven't turned it on. Question: should I update first, then root? Or root first, then update?
Maybe it's a silly question and the answer is "update first because updating will remove rooting anyhow", but I don't know if they have maybe changed something lately and rooting is more difficult or whatever...
Thanks!
Yu can always update your phone, some you will, before and after root
So if it's all the same I guess I'll update first or I'll have to re-root...
You can update to beta & then root. No worries. However, If you want to install a custom rom, you may want to stay on 12 until checking the requirements of the ROM.

If you want to update while keep root you can use Pixel Flasher.
i gonna suggest to disable dm-verity at the first time as well, so if in the future you opt to use custom kernel (which i think, you should) you wont need to wipe your phone

Oh yeah, meant some ROMs require the November update and aren't ready for the December update
Yeah, custom ROMs lie in the future for now... but coming from OnePlus I am familiar with official ROM/fw requirements for them, thanks!
I've got one too in the last week ..Been so long and never had a pixel so I'm afraid to try it ..Need a new kernel ,only getting 4-5 SOT ..

Running newest beta just released ..I got pixel to root and stuff..Phones are boring now ..But I gotta figure it out soon as I get time .Just haven't had time yet
When I got mine, before I even inserted the SIM, I connected to WiFi and updated Android and Google Play, then I inserted the SIM, ran through the setup quickly, unlocked bootloader, rebooted and rooted using Pixel Flasher, wiping Veritas and Verification. That way for any future updates, I would be set to flash with PF, moving forward and that has been very simple
Thanks, awesome. Sounds like a great tool, wish there was something like that for OnePlus!
