Totally agree! Read about this somewhere recently, it seems like the best option for our older devices. And Yes! No notion of how to do it but perhaps some nice adventurous Dev will take up the torch.

fourkbomb is working on a new kernel for i9300, named midas. Just wait, won't be long time.https://github.com/fourkbomb/linux

That's great news. Does someone maybe know the current status of the development?

""Midas" is the codename for the family of boards consisting of the Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300, GT-I9305, SHV-E210K/L/S) and the Galaxy Note 2 (GT-N7100, GT-N7105)." from https://blog.forkwhiletrue.me/pages/midas-mainline/

when did this project will finish am waiting...... for my devices gt-i9305

Someone can always try to transform the S3 into treble compatible so that everyone can then try to use the GSI Treble roms at least to breath some live back into the S3

Here's an update on the development: https://blog.forkwhiletrue.me/posts/an-almost-fully-libre-galaxy-s3/ It's not for Oreo development specifically but it's about u-boot and the kernel.

It's not ready for anything but booting linux. If you really want to try it out, instructions are at the bottom of the page.
Try it yourself
If you're after something to tinker with, have a spare GT-I9300/GT-I9305/GT-N7100/GT-N7105 lying around, and don't really care about using anything based on the old kernel (be that LineageOS, Replicant, or the stock firmware), you can even try this for yourself. While it should be possible to go back to the proprietary bootloader, I have not tested doing so: doing this would be left largely as an exercise to the reader. It's also worth mentioning that LineageOS/Replicant will boot under u-boot with a kernel compiled without CONFIG_ARM_TRUSTZONE set, but the display will not work (probably because u-boot does not initialise the display).

Hi all,
I guess we can expect Oreo ROM for our s3 by using a method called MicroG which galaxy s2 also uses the same structure for supporting lineage 15. Or we can port los 15 from galaxy s2 because both the offer a similar kernel version.
Cheers if anyone tries to build los 15 for our device using the given info..
( Note: the given info might be correct according to a dev that I've confirmed.)

Hey Community, so far there was no device tree for the combination tilapia/cm10.2 so i decided to do my own one as i still have tilapia and want to compile cm / cm based roms from source for it. So here it is.
Here u can download the ROM:
CM_10.2_200920_unofficial
Here u can download the GAPPS for 4.3: LINK

CHANGELOG (grouper, as no tilapia is official) :http://10.2.cmxlog.com/?device=grouper
Its tested and working. So lets enjoy JB4.3. I will build every now and then and update thread title. I cant say how often i will build at week, but I will.

Is it possible to enable Bluetooth-Tethering for the CM10.2 tilapia builds? On 10.1 this is not available and I don't know if this is a technical limitation or just a "forgotten" feature that needs to be enabled for tilapia devices.
Well done m8!

Good to now that someone has been able to build to tilapia , 5 minutes ago i has able to make a bootable build also . Already a month that i was trying (I'm not a developer ) .I used the 10.1 device tree with the 4.3 bloobs that i download from the aosp tree.
Installed and it's working like a charm!
Thank you!
Did anyone already tried to flash this over an official 10.1 build? Did your device catch fire or could you continue without a factory reset?
Yes please is any wipe needed or just flashing Rom and gapps?

You shouldn't have to, but I would do it anyway. Luckily we have a nice sticky thread about that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2175086
Currently we don't have vendor blobs and other external repos for tilapia. From where u sync the repos? Slim? Or?
Can u list what/where the repos in your local manifest?
Thanks
Are you guys going to merge your changes with the official CM repos or are you going to maintain your own unofficial builds?

What is Evervolv?
Evervolv is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) rom. We're fully open sourced and encourage it with no restrictions. The work put into this rom is community driven and and Evervolv Project is made up of numerous members and contributors. And this whole time we were receiving 4.3 nightlies
Right now the current source we are working on is Jellybean (Android 4.3.x).
Current version: 3.3.0p1
Nightlies (starting 8.28.2013) available for testing. Once issues are re mediated, a release build will be posted.
Pre-Requisites:
1. CWM or TWRP
2. S-Off, or thorough understanding of how you work around S-On to get the kernel included in this ROM flashed. FAUX, CM kernels are not compatible and will result in functionality issues if it boots at all.
3. Desire to be helpful in an appropriate manner. Logcats, dmesgs, etc are very helpful, and necessary to assist.
4. Full data wipe/factory reset
Downloads:
http://www.evervolv.com/devices/speedy - Named "ev_speedy-nightly-2013.xx.xx-squished.zip"
This requires gapps for 4.3, do not use 4.2 gapps.
Where do we get the GApps?
Edit: I got them from HERE. 20130813
Edit2: Wow this works great right out of the box! Nightly 10-2
thanks, runs great so far. only issue i see right now is i cant take screenshots, keeps telling me storage might be in use but its not.
Confirmed on my end. Screenshot isn't working for me either. I'll try to get a logcat later tonight.
Here is the logcat I got when attempting to get a screen shot. I hope this helps.

[APP][5.0+]Snap Camera Mod

Snap Camera Mod
Snap is the new camera apps included in nightly of cyanogenmod, replacing the camera AOSP used so far.
This camera, based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon room, although doesn't offer all the advanced features of the latter offers a shot much faster compared to the camera AOSP, and even Google camera.
If you want to try it, here you will find an APK installable on many smartphone with Lollipop or marshmallows.
Since the camera uses libraries which are not present on all smartphones (NOW LIBS ARE INTO APK), however, does not mean that it functions: should go smoothly on all ROMS based on cyan, but also on AOSP and other.
If you try it, reported below which device you have been successful (or not).

What's the difference between this camera and the one that comes in the nightlies?
Will the enhancements work on all SnapDragon processor variants or only for the 800 and above? What about the lib files, are they needed for devices originally without the snapdragon camera??

RisingOS v1.1 runs great. Thanks for the update
just started running this rom today but so far everything buttery smooth no random app not respondings no hang ups, just buttery smooth with some of the most customization ive ever seen in a rom hands down. even brought back quick settings bg images! man i missed those. and the little things it does like theming for the settings app and the image header in setting options.. or the quick settings icon animations.. now THIS deserves the name CUSTOM rom, unlike most builds nowadays are just GSI's with a couple copypasta options in it.. MAJOR props to the dev for this rom i think ill stay a while.. One opinion on the post here on xda; you need a features list.. i mean it would really suck to type the extensive list out, but if people could see the amount of hard work put in, this rom would blow up so quick.
regardless, it's gonna blow up.. So excited to check this ROM out further! Thanks again.
